The PGA Show is in a couple of weeks here in Orlando. Working at the Convention Center, it is always like being a kid at Christmas getting to see all of the new equipment coming out! These irons look and perform really good. Great video.
Great content Hannah 🎉 and there was me thinking I wouldn’t be looking at new irons in 2024 😂 my only concern would be gapping through the bag as I can see there being a massive gap potentially between my sand wedge and lob wedge
You can mix & match between the Qi's and HL's. This is my quest for a fitting. looking to go HL (5-7) then Qi (8-AW). This loft configuration is basically one club down from my current TM set, if I include the 3 rescue. I play everything off the 7 iron at 150yds, and work my irons up or down by 10 yds from there. Been playing traditional old fashioned lofting for 30 years, and I'm not changing.
So I was really set to get fitted for the GEN6 P, but now that these have dropped, I am uncertain. If you were comparing these to the PXG, which would you like from an all around perspective
@@nationalclubgolfer Thanks for replying on this Hanna. Unfortunately the PXGs are not as excess-able to go try out, it is about 3 hours away to a PXG store. And to my eye, I like the looks of the PXG more. I just need to go hit them.
I think I might give these a try in the long irons, I have p790s and love them but really struggle to launch the 4/5 iron. Would you keep same shaft or go lighter in long irons Hannah? I play 120g at moment and love them in 6 iron down but struggle in 4/5 iron
That extra club length could result in some swing lag, so it's a possibility! I am not there to see if that actually is the case, but it isn't out of possibility at all. It's okay to have different builds on your clubs as long as it works for you and gives you results! Another note, the P790s are generally less forgiving than the Qi irons. The Qi also has different cavity designs on the longer irons from the short ones. So this is something about how most iron sets have the same exact technology and build concept all across the set, but the Qi does not. The shorter irons serve a totally different purpose than their long counterparts. And TM designed this set to match the purpose of the club. The long irons do not have that plated cavity that the shorts have. I would consider trying the Qi long irons specifically if you are looking for something easier to hit.
The game improvement irons are de lofted. They are probably weighted to hit high balls then the loft cut back to bring the ball flight down some giving more distance. But it doesn’t make sense to me. The less loft the more club. 🤷🏻♂️ If I de lofted my 7 iron it’s going to go farther without doing anything else to it. I feel like the clubs staying in standard loft present the technology better. I’m waiting for a set of 770’s to show up to replace my old Taylor Made 300 forged irons. Im curious what I will find by making the switch from 23 year old irons.
There are lofted GI irons like the Qi10 HL and its counterparts. The thing is they have this club built with extra "jump" off the lower part of the face. But normal strikes don't have this tech so they do what the "normal" loft would do. That's the point of it being made to increase forgiveness. It is designed to do as close to the same thing every time, regardless of where on the face you hit it.
I just got my set of Qi irons and noticed the hosel/neck of the 5-8 irons is different and jagged/edged. The 9 and wedges have a smooth hosel/neck. Take the 8 and 9 iron out and swing them in the air. You'll hear a very audible difference between the 2. It's almost like there's a lot more drag in the air with the 5-8 irons, than the 9 and wedges. Anyone else notice this? I noticed it immediately like something was wrong or loose...
I was just thinking about taking out my 4i p790 for a 2° weaker Qi10 iron. Did he say keep the same shaft as yours or use the lighter one you hit with?
So Qi 7i has the loft a 5.5i carries very nearly as far as a 5i but with the ball flight, spin rate, peak height and descent angle of a 6.5i. That is impressive
I agree with you. But I also checked these compared to my starter set and can say that I gained yardage and the loft of the clubs was the same. In my case at least. My 7I went from 160 to 175
Agreed! That would be so optimal for fitting but the problem is cost. If every fitter had every club head it would cost loads. Maybe having like 9,7,5 would be a good middle ground
I went from 160 yardage on 7I to roughly 175 with the Qi. They are legit. Just keep in mind these are Game Improvement irons, and not geared towards higher level or beginner golfers.
From a shitty players point of view , about the wide sole , I don’t know why but even i felt that and years back i went with a set of clubs i had no right playing because in the store the “game improvement “ irons just scared me thinking about the fat shots ….once i finally swung game improvement irons (RAC OS about 15+yrs back ) and got throw the turf effortlessly that fear was gone …recently got these Qi in 5-AW and its insane how long these are compared to my classic lofted RAC’s..even i can hit 180+/- with the 7 but average 165 -low 170’s on pure shots … at first i was annoyed because my 5i was avg’ng 200-210 at the range , same as my stealth 7 w..but i struggle with woods so now im adjusting my bag as i figure out all the “doubled “ distances … I don’t know about you , being a better player it may be more difficult to accept. …for me once i just accepted my level of play and stopped thinking of them as game improvement and how i looked silly as an old man still playing them …my misses now are less and different now So theres an adjustment im working through but ive already equalled or better my better rounds from the past …ive had more than a couple “to much club” shots too so once i figuRe that out , woohoo…plus on your suggesting i switched to bigfoot hitoe wedges and thats an adjustment im working through too.. flubbed a couple sand shots causing 2 out with second one across the green out of frustration ….which i hadnt done in a long while …i use to dig leading edge in the sand when i didnt want to with wedges, now i cant seem to have a fat shot lol…
I mean all the new clubs are great this year, haven’t hit anything I don’t like. Also these vids are initial first looks with more in depth head to heads coming soon
I can tell you now that the club does not have 5 iron loft. Maybe 6 but not 5. They also give you the ideal spin numbers for their respective club, which you don't get just by removing loft alone.
A good fitting always strikes me as good as a lesson. You end up understanding so much about your swing and ball strike.
As a fitter, Landon is stellar at his job. Great session, Hannah.
Awesome....Taylormade does it again.....Technology.

I’ll be there seeing everything! Always a good week
All I can say is, AMAZING! ❤🎉💯
Great content Hannah 🎉 and there was me thinking I wouldn’t be looking at new irons in 2024 😂 my only concern would be gapping through the bag as I can see there being a massive gap potentially between my sand wedge and lob wedge
Yes I think you have to be mindful of wedge gapping

PXG are probably a tad more player like in styling and are as long. TM are probably slightly more forgiving
@@nationalclubgolfer Thanks for replying on this Hanna. Unfortunately the PXGs are not as excess-able to go try out, it is about 3 hours away to a PXG store. And to my eye, I like the looks of the PXG more. I just need to go hit them.
Looks very chunky, would be nice to see if these are bigger than the competition and what the smallest of the new GI launches would be
I would say the sizing is similar across the lines, the Callaway Ai Smoke may be slightly smaller but not by much
Yeah in person they aren't as big as you'd think. They are normal for GI irons imo.

Maybe go lighter then! I would recommend getting fit if possible!

If they used traditional lofts the ball would go way too high because of the tech in the bottom of the club head.

It is likely they have done that to take weight out of the hosel so they can lower the centre of gravity in the long irons. It helps hit them higher

He said use the lighter one I hit 👌🏼

Either way, it's still not a 7 iron. I hate the way golf manufacturers jack the loft then tell us that the ball goes further. No, really?!
Exactly. Lower spin equals less control into the greens and the need to buy two extra wedges.
I agree with you. But I also checked these compared to my starter set and can say that I gained yardage and the loft of the clubs was the same. In my case at least. My 7I went from 160 to 175
These would be great if you could be fit for each iron to get the gapping.
Agreed! That would be so optimal for fitting but the problem is cost. If every fitter had every club head it would cost loads. Maybe having like 9,7,5 would be a good middle ground

So I usually shoot low 80’s. Was it a good option to get these clubs?
That's actually the target audience. Mid-to-Low HCP.
When was the last time you miss hit a ball?
🤣 I mis hit it all the time but had a good day this day!

hmmm, seems youd need 6 wedges? ;0)
Maybe 😂😂😂
I really don't like that every review is the best .
I mean all the new clubs are great this year, haven’t hit anything I don’t like. Also these vids are initial first looks with more in depth head to heads coming soon
so when are you doing a witb video? ha
Soon 👀👀
All the irons today are like hitting wet grass flyers
STOP SAYING LIKE!!!
Sneaky supporting role from ‘Joe The Pro’ in the bay behind you I see…
😂
wow...what a beautiful swing. Yikes...This guy talks too much.
Yes he does.
This shit ain't rocket science. Fill it with weight and drop the loft down to a traditional 5/6 iron and it gets an extra 20 yards
…and the height and spin bit…?
I can tell you now that the club does not have 5 iron loft. Maybe 6 but not 5. They also give you the ideal spin numbers for their respective club, which you don't get just by removing loft alone.
Thank you. But to much marketing talking by the Taylor Made guy. I did not watch the video to the end. Can’t stand these clever talkers …..😮
Exactly I kept skipping him just to see the shots
it is super cool that you reply to fan comments. How long do you hit one of your irons at the same loft as that 7 iron Qi?
My general 7-iron carry distance is 154 yards but I don't have an iron that is the same loft
