    This is like when they updated the rocket league UI and all the physics broke the day before a pro tournament 😂

    I also have a lot of the same frustrations you have as well. Being a demon grinder myself, the physics changes have broken so many demon levels that it's so unsatisfying to grind demons because like 1 out of every 10 demons just ends up having bugs that make the level near or flat out not possible. It frustrating to start play a demon in practice mode just to find out that you can't do it, and then it just sits there in your uncompleted levels and you can't do anything about it. I've also wanted to get way more into beating extremes, but now whenever there's an extreme I want to check out, my first question is now "Is this level possible?" rather than "Do I like this level?". It makes beating demons such a pain. I really hope Rob is working on fixing the physics.

    I think a solution to the new game physics would be to for there to be a settings option in the editor for the original physics like the slope jumps or up side down ship and levels with that option on will have a little sign like the copy/collab or the high object count one, and maybe even make it give a warning to directly tell the player when pressing the play button (just like the high object count one) this way, players will know what to expect before playing the levels

      Yes i definetly think a level should say somewhere that it uses old physics or new physics

      @piguyn  Год назад +1

      hadn't really even considered it, but yeah having notes somewhere on the level page about which physics are used would be awesome

    i definitely share most of your concerns here, while this update was great for creators who can now work inside what is essentially a game engine (perhaps not a great one at that) it felt like the player experience suffered as a result. players were already dealing with inconsistencies from creators putting invisible stuff in their levels and whatnot but this update firmly gave creators the last remaining responsibility, and im not sure they can handle it (myself included)
    for platformer i was also very critical from the day it was announced, although i will say i expected the controls to be worse. not that they’re particularly good by actual platformer game standards. most platformer levels right now give me flashbacks to those bad ad riddled flash games you’d play in the middle school library but without any of the nostalgia
    i disagree with the physics changes though, while it was changed way later than it should’ve, i think it’s a great change to have the game function the same no matter what screen you have or what device you’re on. it is a little weird to have the middle ground he provided us with, some levels having legacy physics and others not with no way to tell. kind of negates a lot of the benefits of having unified consistent physics to begin with and makes me wish he just forced 2.2 physics across the board, preferably with some of the slope kinks ironed out.
    with levels breaking i give rob a lot of slack i think, 2.1 already had so many moving parts interacting with each other and with 2.2 adding so many more moving parts i dont think there’s a world where all the previous systems and quirks would’ve remained intact. sure it sucks having levels break for seemingly obvious and simple reasons, but given the complexity of the update i feel those could very well have been fixes to even larger issues. but only rob knows that one
    i also just want to quickly address robs transparency, i feel he has been reasonably transparent. the issue is his words having such large ripples across the community and being taken as absolute fact. the guy doesn’t always know everything, and him laying out details before he’s not 100% certain has gotten him in trouble plenty of times (just take the october release date as an example). so i think its understandable for him to stay quiet about which things he intends to fix or add, because he likely doesn’t know how or if its possible to do yet
    this comment is too long i think

    • @piguyn
      @piguyn  Год назад

      i think this comment is a perfectly acceptable length, thanks for a really in-depth response!
      with the physics standardization, if rob had forced 2.2 physics onto every level, particularly 2.2 upside down ship/ufo, there would have been levels that were entirely impossible that would need fixed in a way that fundamentally changes how they look and how they are played, which i'd argue could alter the polish/identity of a level. if that wasnt the case, then i agree that forcing 2.2 stuff would have been an ok change, but i still think having some manual toggle for old physics, even if its buried in settings somewhere, would have been a good fail-safe during the transition period.
      i have also considered the points you bring up about rob's transparency, and they're pretty compelling. i definitely think that he's hesitant to overpromise and underdeliver, but i wish he made his intentions clear. since the update came out, we've gotten a few very sparse comments from him about bugfixes, but i'd like to know what he *wants* to fix moreso than what he actually ends up fixing. if he were to say something like "i'm hoping i can get slopes fixed at some point, but with how i've tweaked them it might be tough" i'd at least know where he's at with the issue, and he wouldnt have actually promised anything. currently, i worry that he may die on the 'new slope physics aren't changing' hill (or countless others), and as i outlined in the video, i really think that's a problem for the game.
      thanks for checking out the vid btw, u make some cool shit

    I completely agree. I think personally in my opinion that platformer levels will ruin the game. It’s just not geometry dash how we’ve always seen it and played it. Sure the concept is different and provides variety but I just don’t like the fact that all the levels play the exact same.

    I'm a big fan of your opinion about the update! Reasonable, respectable, mature, honest, and well thought! But i can't agree less about 2.2 being a disappointment. You may are starting to know me, but as a guy that focuses on the positive on a bunch of things, especially Geometry Dash, and that knows how to be sensible when a discussion gets serious, seeing some people that got their hopes down with the game because of Rob finally releasing the update that a hell ton of people wanted to be out for almost 7 years Is just depressing to me. I also love this game so much, and it's probably my favorite videogame of all time and currently the only game i actively play, but i won't get my hopes down easily for an update that had to be released at some point, and i'm surprised It's finally out. I could say that i think 2.2 has been a solid update the way It Is, but we all should know that this situation Is about time, and to wait further about giving a complete verdict about the update. What are the changes to get used to? What changes can be readonable to fix in Robtop's eyes? What are the new and old levels going to be and feel like after a while? What could you possibly do out of the many things in this game to try to not worry about the downsides of the update at the moment? Who knows! A huge positive i could say about 2.2 being released, Is that Robtop can finally go back on making small, quick and efficient updates thanks to 2.201 and 2.203, that they could be in favor of the community's feedback in the future. And last but not least, we can agree that this Is only the beginning. Aight, that's all. And yes, i watched the whole video. It was that entertaining for me to listen to. Take care pi man! 👍

    while creating has gotten infinitely better and I usually focus on that aspect of the game, the points you’ve given were really valid and it really made me think “wow, maybe 2.2 wasn’t the best thing to happen” I really like it, but it could’ve been a way better update

    Loved this vid. I agree with a lot of arguments even if not with how they're taken or with all of them. Especially with platformer I don't agree with having it be a bad thing in itself as an update in GD though I def get where you're coming from. I think platformer is a nice addition because of what it can be according to levels like Speedtek and Flipswap Factory I think it was called?? Like sure it's "not" GD, but it's a new thing that has GD stuff but it feels like a good platformer with depth, even if not with as much as I'd like, when used with slope gimmicks and dash orbs (and honestly I don't care what anyone says this creator mode is 100x better than Mario Maker 2, which I own, even if it's harder to use).
    I totally agree that he butchered the physics, but only with the slopes. I think the new ship feels absolutely incredible to play compared to the old one and I don't think the changes with that are noticeable enough for them to be a genuine worry. (Btw the orb's coyote time is back and that's awesome).
    Surprisingly enough, this update has been a motivation for me to start grinding demons (I haven't in a while because Lethal Company and grinding for a Genshin Character lmao but I beat like 150 demons in three days). The game feels good to play without the need of hacks and it's honestly nice and fun with the new rewards. I just wished he fixed the damn slopes because I bet if he did that this update would be way more bearable for you.
    Great Vid I wish there was more of this kind lmao.

      glad u liked the vid! i will say, new ship is not my favorite. for mobile/60hz players its an absolute godsend, but ship in 2.1, even without fps bypass, felt much better for me, which is why i wouldve loved for rob to implement fps bypass as an alternative to the default 2.2 physics.
      i've definitely also heard a bunch of people saying that they're more motivated than ever to grind in gd which is awesome. hopefully i'll get back there soon enough 🤞

    While I do like a lot of the update, I do get a lot of the complaints you laid out (and I'm kinda in the middle of both casually playing this game and playing it to be as good as I can get so I feel like I can see both angles when it comes to all of the issues, although tbf I've been a mobile player for 5 years and I don't have the same experience as everyone else.) There is one complaint of my own I'd like to add onto this whole thing since it wasn't mentioned in the video and it kinda bugs me. For some reason the orb priority was changed, and I found this out because a level I made has a pink orb following you and when you go to hit a dash orb in the same part it just doesn't let you hit the dash orb which is dumb. Overall though, I think the update was pretty good. It does have issues (very major ones at that) but I'm sure they'll get fixed, albeit probably slower than anyone else wants.
