    Hi, the original unit often fails because owners do not clean and replace the special adhesive between the ICU and the heat sink - adhesive dries out causing poor heat conductance to the sink, ICU then overheats and fails. Btw, I tried a low price voltage regulator - it lasted about three kilometers!😉

    are you still using this ignition even now in 2022? have you had any probs with it?

    Sure it works for what? A week? A month? If you plan to keep the bike and enjoy lots of miles invest in quality parts, not the most affordable. Lovely bike though!

      @@user-be9qp9lz7s Sorry, I can't answer this as fitting it was only an experiment because I had already bought a new one. I keep it as a spare on long journeys in case the new one fails.

    Did it work correctly? I mean does it rev like it should ? No rev limiter in the vw ignition module?

    • @rogerc2637
      @rogerc2637  5 лет назад

      I didn't ride the bike with the this module installed but it revved fine and I have no reason to believe that it would work any differently than the original. It's worth a try for the savings involved.

      It worked perfectly. Not a single issue in the whole riding season. Amazing! Thanks !

    Did this unit work well long term? I note you posted this 3 years ago.

      In actual fact I took this unit off and kept it as a spare whilst travelling, so I have no idea how long it may last, but I know that they are also used in the Mk2 golf so must be ok.

    Hello, Sir - your R100R sounds great! Thank you for the enlightening video!
    Same thing happened to me yesterday: ignition cut off while riding my 1995 R100RT Classic. Could restart the engine for a second at a time, but would die off after a few sparks. Noticed that I could start it up for about a minute later that evening after I had trailered it and it had cooled off, but then back to square 1.
    Symptoms here: ruclips.net/video/fo3pnlIL_4g/видео.html
    Was this the case with your motorcycle as well? Trying to figure out if it's my Hall Trigger, Coil or ICU at fault.
    Your input will help me decide if I should just try to replace the ICU with a Golf unit before any other prodding about. It's cheap and convenient enough to do so, but costly enough and even more convenient to seek your advice beforehand. :)
    Thanks in advance!

      If when you take out a plug, rest it firmly on the cylinder and turn on the ignition, crank over the engine, there is no spark. Then refer to SNOWBUMS guide for diagnosing the cause, as I did. If that points to the ignition control module then just change it for the VW one.
