“It’s the dookie mod, it adds more gain… and we added an extra tube on this head for even more gain”……… 1 minute later…. “Billy’s tone is surprisingly clean and isn’t about gain” 🤔 🧠 🔥
high-gain amps used sparingly tend to have a warmer tone with more harmonic richness even in low-gain settings than the cleaner amps that sound a little less dirty but since it's green day we want a lot of character even for the less overdriven tones
Techs do like to have things in big rack cases lol. there’s only so much pride they can have in the music being that it’s not that great lol, that may be why they have to get huge rigs.. to compensate!
Hobbyists can afford to have only one amp, or maybe a second as a backup. Pros on a $350,000,000 world tour? Nope, they need backups, because one amp breakdown isn’t going to stop the tour. All the fans paying $150 per ticket want the band to sound like the records. And the guitarist used THIS amp on the first record, THAT on the second and third, A THIRD ONE for everything else until the last album, when he used X... So now one amp turns into a dozen, everything’s racked and sitting in flight cases, you’ve got roadies, and everything is just easier to deal with that way.
@@powerdog242 i was a tech for major bands. Its just philosophy and personal tastes. Some people bring 2 amps on a major tour. Too each his own. My confusion being a tech for heavy hitters was all of the rack and switching gear for guitarists who are in punk bands basically. Why did one guitar hero I work with who wrote Stairway to Heaven have a 1/2 stack and the same pedals for decades. Why does Tom Morello use 5 pedals and Marshall Peavey rig? Why does a guitarist who doesnt really use a ton of diverse sounds use elaborate rigs to get clean and dirty? Everyones brain is different. Its just silly to me. Whatevs.
@@mikemichel Agreed, and his tech hitting pedals for him? Utterly buffling. Must be he thinks it's not gonna make a huge difference if the tech misses out.
Seriously, I was actually bummed as hell when I saw that pink job on the PETE head (yes, I read that sentence). That amp's appearance with those two white Es was legendary.

@@karlsmith7016 he seems like good dude ..people are triggered by the gum ..I couldn't imagine having to live with some one thats triggered by gum

Early stuff high gain, later stuff considerably less gain
high-gain amps used sparingly tend to have a warmer tone with more harmonic richness even in low-gain settings than the cleaner amps that sound a little less dirty but since it's green day we want a lot of character even for the less overdriven tones
Also when asked about the difference in sound between a straight and angled bridge pickup, "I'm not really sure I'm still trying to figure that out."
"Nothing sounds better than old speakers and these are like 5-6 years old". Me: old = pre Rola.
Hahha yup. I've got socks older than those speakers. They're not old!
My brain always freezes when bands build miniature electronic cities simply to achieve a clean and dirty tone. Keeps people employed I guess.

Saw them in 1994 just plugged into a 800 with that beat up Strat Sounded cool They threw a lot of grass and dirt at them
Would love to see Billy compare these heads with his signature Dookie Pedal
Love this rig rundown. Gum smacking and all!
I was gonna start hatin' on Green Day until he pulled out Billy's worn guitar. That's the weapon of a warrior.
I’m glad you didnt
Green Day rig rundown..who woulda thought
A tech saying "I dont know" is scary.... with the gum smacking I honestly think that they interviewed the coke dealer that "kinda knew some stuff".
My $75k fender champ emulator
Saw this years ago on rig rundown literally the same video
AWESOME!!!
I want a “Gum Rundown”. What you chewing, bro? Big Red? Bubblicious? Fruit Stripe?
2:35 Holy crap the tone knob on that BD-2 is cranked. RIP ears.
Hey 2 different mics per cab? What kinda mics are they?
I really enjoyed listening to him chew his gum with his mouth open. Gross.
Me too. Classy. Thanks guys.
CHOMP CHOMP smack CHOMP lick CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
That guy sounded like a bull about to mount farmer browns cow in the back 40
Cocaine.
Why this reupload?
Gum
That’s blow. The Gum came after the rails.
Painted a vintage Marshall cab! OMG!
Exactly!
They're 90's reissue marshalls, not vintage.

Why didn't he throw away that gum .
one of those unfortunate occasions where nervousness comes off like priggishness, interesting mods regardless I bet they sing.
Released 16 h ago? New Clip? Pressing play and hear the smacking. Nope.
I wish they would just stack the cabs with the heads, the old school way....
Why?
You're doing an interview. Spit the gum out.
He's breathing like he uh inhaled some of that pick powder, so he probably needs the gum.
Way too much blow to remember.
Huh, didn't know they hired the intellectually disabled to help out with gear when on tour.
All this to play "punk-distorted power chords?
