My father was in the Navy as aviation ordinance on the USS Eisenhower for quite some time and he passed away 13 years ago. Technology like this blows me away and saddens me at the same time because I know he would have loved every minute of this to be able to relive his Navy days through the incredible amount of realism and detail. How was the night check ndi tech on the F-14 sunset Cruise and I got to say this stuff is revelation if I can ever acquire the hardware to truly do it justice. Right now I got a decent VR headset in the Dell visor but my PC is a mid grade decent laptop so we are kind of stretched as its capabilities sometimes to the point that I haven't even tried DCS yet but I will and I will definitely take Tom cat out for a spin. That said I really really love helicopters. Anyway I'm sure the old man would have loved this stuff I know I do. Best wishes to you and yours, fairwinds and following seas.

My mind was blown. I was on the Roosevelt for one of my deployments and launched several aircraft off that deck during OEF and it was eerie how much they got right. The deck is a lot busier during work ups or a deployment but for just basic ops it was spot on. Lol, holy crap I did not think something like this existed.
Just started playing VR a couple weeks ago and just tried DCS and the F/A-18 for the first time yesterday, and today was my first start up and super carrier launch and it has quite literally been one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. VR is 200% worth every penny.
I just "stopped by" one day... I was 'intrigued'... Now I'm trying to figure out how to pay for a system, the ramifications on my home life and how to build a rig that can support full kinetic immersion... You guys all impress me with your sobriety and dedication to "the experience". That alone is quite compelling. DCS presents what seems to me, the ultimate in "serious fun". What a great achievement and community.

I was using it for the first time and the graphics were so good that I was lining up to the catapult and he was signaling me to put my wings down but I didn’t know that so I started to panic for a second thinking this ground crew guy was going to come over and yell at me , then I realized that my wings were stowed so I locked them in and finished the take off.
9900K, 2070, 32 gb ram. Frames are very smooth on the SC for me. Disable Bloom and set the mask to 0.1. This update has improved my performance without question.
Thank you for your first impressions. I've just joined DCS and dropped a chunk of cash in the recent sale so I'm looking for an excuse not to buy it but every vid makes me want it more. 💰💰 and it's discounted if you already have F18.
Tip: If you haven't noticed the light at the back of the carrier (rather small in VR) you can use that to get a bearing on your approach vector. Colors are: Red (left) Yellow (centered) Green (right), the faster they (red/green) flash the more you are off from the nominal approach angle. As i mentioned, the light is quite small, but if you use VR Zoom for a second you can see it.
A brilliantly done video, you are obviously very talented, only had 1 criticism, when you launched you should have gained altitude, not skimmed low at sea level.
Finally! I love carriers! 2020 is a landmark. Definitely you need the 3080 RTX series. Will smoothen it out and render the reflections, etc much better.
Pretty cool. I have 750 carrier landings in the A7 and was an Air Boss. The rendering is superb and the sim is very realistic. If you are a former naval aviator, not bad landing. If you aren’t, superb. BTW adding the FLOLS (fresnel Lens optical landing System) display on the side of the wind screen when rolling into the groove is a good idea for the “meatball.” Appears one can see the sim’s actual FLOLS at the in close.
My ship and one of my birds... Noice. 👌 I was lucky enough to touch all of the birds regularly as I was a NDI tech (QA special agent, I even had to shut down a catapult once or twice when it wasn't perfection. XD). Man, this looks phenomenal... Nothing like the fire of the deck from up on a bird.
I love DCS in VR. Matter of fact... I will never play the 2D version of the game again. Sure 2D looks nice but it reminds you of playing a console game. VR is sooo much more immersive and I can not imagine that 2D will be around for too much longer. VR is for sure the way of the future. Hopefully DCS focuses on VR because they can take their game to a whole new level and attract a wider range of people and in return make a lot more money.
I hope not. Cost of VR includes cost of machine able to run it well + existing high cost of entry due to modules = making DCS less appealing to most. Not to mention cost of joysticks appropriate for the game. I think VR is cool but should be a niche, not the norm
I noticed when you dumped fuel, there was no cloud of fuel, usually a white smoke trail coming from the top of the back, that's odd, I'm going to have to check that on mine. That's a great thing you see in your screen(FLOLS), you can move it by clicking on the text. I think later, you will be able to disable it if you wish. Good video, great fun! You can try track IR and check the frame rates to see if you get better FPS. I'm sure ED is working hard on the frame rate issue, I'm sure it's not an easy fix. Set up your own mission and then use rainy weather, it will surprise you, the deck will be wet, unlike before when you get rain on the canopy, but the deck or runway is actually dry.
Now that you mention it, indeed there was no stream of fuel. And will definetly try out bad weather, really interested on chexking out that wet deck. Thanks for the comment!
I unfortunately don't own a PC vr system but I do have PSVR. Ace Combat 7 still puts a smile on my face, but this will be incredible to play! Probably now the most realistic simulator around!
To get a decent FPS (45) on SC I need to turn MSAA and shadows off. Otherwise it's only 30FPS. I got HP reverb, 1080ti, pixel density at 1.0 and Steam VR resolution at 200%.
Having been an avionics tech on legacy hornets for 15 years I can say the attention to detail in the cockpit is phenomenal. The procedures for start-up through to launch... severely lacking.
the hand signal is the yellow shirt is giving you when he's waving from his elbows out to his head is telling you to pull forwards that is the hand signal for keep moving in a straight line, when he brings his hands together above his head and close his fist that's full stop, one hand out to the left and the other hand waving from elbow to head is to turn left vice versa is to turn right, one hand up at the air elbow bent slightly and hand moving left to right is to turn up engines

Nice video though, I'm flying it too with RTX 2070 and intel 8770 with PD 2.0 (in OTT obviously, I'm Rift S owner), so I'd recommend to upgrade GPU in future. Also as it is early access - many fetures not ready I think, but it will be nice to have fully simulated deck in future, that sure thing.
I have a I7 8700k and a 1080ti ftw3 and rift also, and I found that its actually better than being on the old Nimitz empty. Have had no problem with frame rate for the most part
Cool vid. I really want to try VR, but the performance hits are not just due to the Super Carrier, the performance has drastically been decreased ever since they updated beta to the new lighting and water textures last march. At this point it seems that only the new Vulkan API will really improve FPS for a lot of people, if and when that occurs.
Been flying VR for 2 yrs. Recently tried it 2d because I had purchased a new monitor. And it sucked. I don't care what compromises I have too make to fly VR; it's the only way to fly.
@@theaceofspades485 Yeah so, there is some getting used to wearing the HMD, it does help that you are sitting in one spot. I personally get tired after wearing the set for an hour or two straight but, most people should probably take breaks anyway BUT, and it's a big but, the experience is incredible. You won't go back after flying VR. Good luck!

The amount of CPU power these planes had and the amount it takes to SIMULATE it is mindboggling. Tell me again why I need all this GPU power to flap my wings?!
different architecture and you gotta remember. THey have multiple computers onboard that only perform a certain specific task. Where as your PC runs ALL the tasks and has to render the graphics. Which is the hardest thing. I hope games start seeing mutli core support real soon so we can eliminate so many bottle necks.

Big tech companies are trying to solve an automated approach that allows current programming to be converted into multi-threaded code as at the moment this is the next generational break through. performance would sky rocket if every ounce of a cpu/gpu could be had.
Definitely need to get that graphics card upgrade if you want to do VR. Even the 1080Ti sucks for it. 2080Ti is a little better but still not able to ultra everything and supersample higher resolutions and stay above 90fps. Here is hoping for the 3080 or 3090 :)
I have MSFS, I'm thinking of getting DCS, question... on startup, I notice you clicking through all the switche like you already know how to fire it up, so for a newbie, do the aircraft have a checklist pionting to the switches like in MSFS?

Ahaha I spent a solid hour messing around trying to do simple things like roll back the canopy. using the HTC Vive controllers to do anything on the dash is an absolute mess. Still got no clue how to even roll back the canopy forward or backward lmao seems to be random when using the controllers. Hope they do some updates for controller support cause I prefer using the hands instead of the cursor.

I was in VFA-151 and did 2 cruises on the Constellation. I'm blown away by the accuracy of this. Amazing.

ensure to intercept the middle of the e bracket to get your on speed AOA. You do this through trim and not by pulling on the stick.

nothing better then spending 1,000s of dollars on a VR system only to be able to use a computer mouse to flip switches in the cockpit
Dcs does have an option to use VR hands, although it feels quite janky to use and pulling leavers is really difficult

Ahaha I spent a solid hour messing around trying to do simple things like roll back the canopy. using the HTC Vive controllers to do anything on the dash is an absolute mess. Still got no clue how to even roll back the canopy forward or backward lmao seems to be random when using the controllers. Hope they do some updates for controller support cause I prefer using the hands instead of the cursor.
