I don't think we need to consider the vanilla ending a different timeline, any more than we should consider failing a palace deadline as a different timeline. After all, you can get the vanilla ending in Royal; all you have to do is just fail to max out Maruki's confidant before Sae's palace's deadline.
I liked this video and it did a great job explaining things to me and I’m subscribing because you said “persona , Altus and JRPG related” please don’t stop updating us when it comes to these topics especially persona and Altus for me especially. I love this game series and company and would love to stay up to date and as long as you’re coming with the truth then you’re audience will remain here and continue to grow. Keep doing this , we appreciate you bro
I could 've sworn I read somewhere that Morgana mentions the 3rd semester palace when confronting Strikers last boss. Like literally mentioning February.
I think he says "half a year ago" or something at the tail end of strikers final dungeon, which you can interpret either way since dec and feb are not that far from each other. But I'll have to check that when I get the chance.
I see it as the same situation with Persona 4 Golden (P4G) and Persona 4 Arena (P4A) back in 2012. Both of those games had very close release windows with one being marketed as the definitive edition of P4 while the other was marketed as a follow-up to P4. Unfortunately with how they were developed, P4A had little to no references to Marie or any of the extra events that took place in Golden at all. It wasn't until Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (P4AU) where they brought back all the Golden stuff with Chie even awkwardly bringing up that Marie still exists in the game despite her never making an appearance in P4A. 😂 I'm pretty sure it's the same here, with ATLUS developing another game that will eventually bring the entire cast of P5 together (Maybe P5 Arena pls?).
I think the problem with canon is due to the release timings in between the games, plus localisation sometimes botched the original Japanese text to some extent
It's more or less a release timing thing. Strikers was basically completed by the time royal was out in JP, dancing and q2 were made before royal, even tactica probably started development before royal was done if we assume it's been in the works for 4 years at least.
@@TillerBric agree on the timing thing. As I studied Japanese, I sometimes noticed the actual translation and localization have slightly different meaning, resulting in the confusion in between canon. Even english game atrticles written in a way Royal didn't have link to Strikers, while Japan side at least vaguely acknowledged it, considering the similar concept of researchers using their own means of reaching the collective cognition, plus new character/Arcana pattern in between Royal/Strikers. Even some of the datamined unused but important/canon story/concepts within Royal were reused in Strikers. At least atlus acnowledged the problem since it happen before with Golden and Arena. Based on reliable leaks, more follow up stories for the P5 generation was developed to link narratives. Though because of the pandemic, plus new console deals that they kept streaming restrictions of Royal JP side longer until Tactica reveal, since they won't want potential new players to be spoiled. Best guess the next follow up story will reveal/release after P3 Reload release, as more newcommers are entering the franchise through new releases, plus Reload seems to be the definitive version of the Journey, with Makoto Yuki's narrative as the canon timeline. Atlus wanted to stay faithful to the original, while possibly taking other canon material and follow up stories like Arena into consideration.
5:39 here after release, The events of Repaint Your Heart have a Memory Wipe(Which only comes with through very small dialogue that they could have left unused and it wouldn't matter) The actual Game of Tactica doesn't have a Memory Wipe The Phantom X is confirmed an AU
Does the P5R ending still makes sense in P5S? I just finished Royal and want to start Strikers but I'm worried that the stories wont really connect lol.
yeah it will absolutely still make sense. they dont reference anything that was added in royal ofcourse, but in general it doesnt really mention anything past okumura's palace if i remember correctly. Strikers is a new story with new characters and with other big evils to defeat, but with all the phantom thieves youve come to love over the story of p5/p5r. So it doesnt really want to spoil the major stuff for people who for some reason play the spinoff first. big recommend from me but you dont need to take my word for it :)
Nothing really contradicts either one besides the absence of the two and even then one can be explained away as off doing gymnastic stuff and the kther..other...well they're vague with him so you're good
I always found it a little strange how Akechi and Kasumi aren't brought up at all in Persona 5 Strikers. I know it takes place a whole year after the original, but it would be kinda nice to see an arc that centres around Akechi in some way. I also wish it had more blatant Royal implications, like Kasumi in Tactica, just to make it a bit more clear what timeline it's from. I really hate it when games with better rereleases only do sequels following the original game
honestly X I don't think it's canon if just because it's extremely out of character for Sojiro to leave LeBlanc behind, plus, why is the metanav back, that makes no sense
4:02 Yes They are both Canon via everyone outside of the protagonists and Velvet Room Attendants Forgetting it, That also Includes all the DLC the Protagonists remembering everything is confirmed in Q Via Elizabeth telling the entire Q Story To Makoto Yuki on Side P3 As for Any Possible Retcons Wild Cards have there own Language in which they interact to bot Create a world destroying Paradox
Except this isn’t the first time we had an ending be a different timeline. It was even a key plot point in the second Persona 2. Persona as a whole is also a split timeline from SMT starting with IF.
To be honest, Strikers *only* makes sense in the Royal timeline IMO. 1) Morgana mentions their last battle was six months ago (February) 2) Ann speaks to Futaba like they haven't seen each other in awhile. Futaba goes to Shujin. Either this follows the Royal timeline where Ann went overseas...or she's a really crappy senpai and friend to ignore Futaba while she was adjusting to a new school. People try to deny it takes place after Royal because they're upset Akechi and Sumi aren't involved. Neither are Phantom Thieves, neither are part of the friend group, they reiterated that Sumi still disagrees with the Phantom Thieves at the end, everyone assumes Akechi is dead, and Sumi is busy with international gymnastics. But to be honest, I doubt the third semester will ever be relevant in terms of continuity. Even now with tactica, we're getting Kasumi and the Detective Prince instead of a continuation of their actual characters in the third semester. And considering the rest of the game is supposed to take place after third semester...they're really bending over backwards to avoid continuing these characters at all.
I don't think P5 Dancing is canon to Persona series as a whole, due to P4 Dancing which it's canon to doesn't canon to P4 Arena, because not only it wasn't referenced, Naoto doesn't mention the the truth of Apathy Syndrom and its connection with Shadow Operative.
the only one where the canon seems debatable is p5x to me persona 5 is no longer canon due to the enhanced edition just like p3 and p4 before it persona 5 royal is canon and strikers happens like a year after p5 while dancing takes place in a dream some time before the end of the game and p5t seems to take place in another realm before the end of the game pq2 takes place before the end of the game and actually before pq1 because of makoto yuki's memories from pq1 not being shown to be remembered in q2 i agree the canon can be seen as wacky tho

we might finally get another fighting game
I really hate the memory wipe thing. It's just an excuse to never mention the events of the game again.
It makes everything feel so pointless...

3:01 Royal is literally just P5 with extra Content, If you played Royal You've played Vanilla
I am exited for Tatica and phantom of the night, and I wish more people talked about Q2 cause I fuckin love Q2 but am sad that nobody talks about it
Q2 coming out on the 3DS in 2019 probably makes it easy to miss unfortunately

0:23 Royal Outright Replaces Vanilla in all things incluing getting the Normal Ending
5:08 P5X is An Alternative Universe
P5T is the same as Q but theres no memory Wipe it takes place outside of Time and space
You're right about P5T but
Spoiler
There's a memory wipe for the Akechi and Kasumi dlc
I’m fairly certain X is an alternate universe type beat

Vanilla 3 FES replaces it
Vanilla 4 Golden Replaces it
Vanilla 5 Royal Replaces it
I think the reason people think it's a sequel to vanilla Persona 5 and not Royal is because it doesn't use any of Royal's updated sprites
P5R simply retconned original P5. There isn't two timelines. It's not that complicated
Except this isn’t the first time we had an ending be a different timeline. It was even a key plot point in the second Persona 2. Persona as a whole is also a split timeline from SMT starting with IF.
