Twenty six years ago, I spent a couple of months in a psychiatric hospital. The staff encouraged the patients to get washed and dressed every day and not just shuffle around in pajamas and dressing gowns. It really did help with self esteem and motivation to get better.
I retired over a year ago. No reason to get up in the morning. My stepson started a job he loves, but it requires two buses to get there. So, I make it my “job” to drive him to work every morning. It also gives us time together in the mornings.
I’m almost in tears because for more than 30 years, I didn’t do any of these and now I do them all. I started changing around 9 years ago and now these maintenance tasks are so normal I don’t even think about them as separate tasks. It can be done!!!!
I was never taught to do these things every day . Now I am scheduling them into my morning to get a better start to my day and encourage myself to be more organized. I cannot thank you enough.
1. Trash leaves house 2. Dishes clean, away. 3. Clothing tasks 4. Paper 5. Bathroom swipe & wipe 6. Vehicle tidy & trash 7. Living area 5 minute tidy 8. Make bed peaceful 9. Incoming items dealt with 10. Body care: sleep, dress to shoes, clean, feed, exercise, outside, water, hair... Your baby will learn that slight discomfort is not the end of the world.
Thank you for having these tips written out ... I started to write them by the time Sarah got to point 5 & thankfully had remembered them all but it was good to haveva check list & yes, they all matched & I was grateful for how you wrote your list out, so, thank you!
I thought I might pick up a new tip or two from this video but I’m proud to say my husband & I do all these things every day. Our house looks good and I’m never anxious is someone drops by. This is all excellent advice❣️
This is eye opening. Goes to show that they're are so many life skills that aren't taughtin schools and sadly people aren't learning them at home, either. This really explains what I see in some friends' homes that I never understood. To be fair, the thing I struggle with is paper clutter.
I subscribe to several decluttering experts and can’t remember who gave this lesson, but it has really helped me. Place a pretty basket or other container in a conspicuous place and call it the inbox. Place all incoming paper into that container until you have time to deal with it. There’s a lot more to the lesson, but just this step will help. My basket is on the end of the kitchen island.
Excellent! Tip for new mom's- Peace of mind to shower. Set car seat on floor in bathroom and put baby in car seat. You can always peak out of shower and or talk to baby while you're showering so you dont feel like you are neglecting them.
I had my 3 girls very close together (30+ years ago). It was common to take my shower with the curtain partly open & a baby in the baby seat. And toddlers & pre-schoolers visiting.
So glad I watched this! I wrote down the list and will post it on bathroom mirror where I will see it first thing every day (and frequently throughout the day!) and be reminded - many of these can be my morning puttering tasks!!!! (when I get myself awake and ready for my day).
I am 70 years old, and I do all 10 every day and more. I have a 2200 square foot home with a two-car garage. I deep clean my whole house from moving all the furniture, moving my stove, refrigerator to clean behind them, I wipe down all furniture, baseboards, plantation shutters, doors. I clean all the windows inside and out and all window tracks. Wash all floors on my knees. Vacuum rugs. I go through all my closets, cabinets and drawers to make sure they are tidy/clean. After I am done with my home, I take everything out of the garage and wash the epoxy floor. I do every 7 weeks. My husband will wash my car. Sometimes I do. My husband does the lawn care of mowing. We paint our fence, plant flowers and trim our shrubs and put down mulch every spring. When I am not taking care of my home, I swim for an hour 3 times a week at our local YMCA. Your body needs to move every day. And yes, I had a back surgery in 1993, and my DR. said be active, move and eat healthy and you will live to be 100. I was a nurse in my younger years working on a surgical floor, so I know the importance of taking care of your body.
Wow, You are amazing! At 68 I'm finally" getting it" and have made a routine of all the above. It's amazing when you do things on a regular basis it seems easier to handle.
@@leetate5310 No not kidding. I keep on moving. Today I cleaned my garage and washed the floor. Swam for 1 hour then came home and washed my entire home floor on my knees, I feel great for my age.
New sub. I can’t say “thank you” enough times! I have been doing most of these for years, and, combined with being a minimalist, it’s helped me maintain my home during particularly brutal bouts of depression. A few years ago, I made a list of Rules of the House. Like: if you bring it into the room, take it out of the room (like dishes); if it’s dirty, put it in the sink or hamper; if it’s empty, throw it out… Unfortunately, my former roommates did none of these things, and the house was always a mess. I moved out, to save my sanity (13 yrs of caring for a packrat/hoarder parent gave me ptsd regarding clutter).
Great video. I do all ten everyday. I have declutterred my house so much it only takes me fifteen minutes to to clean the whole house. I spend longer on myself than it takes to clean house. Declutterring has really changed my life. I don’t want nor need anything brought into my house again. I spend an hour everyday grooming and feeding my three cats and three dogs. I feel so much more relaxed. I have several friends that need to follow your advise. It does work. Thank you.
Hehehe, I play a game with my carer. She empties the trash bin beside my chair at the beginning of the visit and I try to see how many times I can add more trash to the bin for her to remove each visit.... she has caught on but it is still fun 😊
Car care-my husband says that unless you have an electric car you need to stop for gas. Every gas station has garbage bins at the gas pumps. Take a minute and toss your car garbage, don’t even take it home with you.
I love the analogy of not brushing your hair everyday to doing these quick maintenance tasks. I can relate to the mess, pain, time and effort of unsnaggaling hair that has not been touched for a week 😮
I felt like I'm already doing a lot toward #1-9. I came to 10 and was completely stumped: why am I not systematically taking care of myself? I do the minimum and if something needs to be skipped, it's something from self-care. What a revelation that I can shift things and focus more time on myself and it's equally as important as the household things that I manage pretty well.
This was actually the toughest for me until I realized that I felt better the whole day no matter what I was doing and even if no one else saw me the whole day.
L0VED this list! Thank You for this video. 😊 It's so basic, and it's a strong foundation for having a good day. However, to say I can make up my bed in one minute seems unrealistic. 😆 That, and a few other tasks. I will try the list, and see if it's done in ten. 😉 Maybe some things will take less than a minute. 3...2...1...GO
Thank you!!! I just accidentally came upon your podcast! Excellent ideas!! Very useful snd practical suggestions!! Keep up the great job!! I look forward to hearing the next podcast!!😊🙋 🐑Canada
I am not a procrastinator so I do everything on this list everyday. A lot of it is “as you go” so some of this just never happens because I take care of this immediately. I wake up I get dressed, I make my bed. I empty my garbage when it’s time. I don’t have dishes in the sink, my car is clean. I pick up before I go to bed if there is anything to pick up. About the bed. If it’s not made up the room looks messy. Yuk.
Just broke my leg...freaking out because I thrive on order and I know my life will be chaos ...22 years ago broke ankle and it was the worst time of my life.
I had to buy a new car (five days ago, to replace my ten yr old car: too much to repair at that point). The new car lets me know if I left anything in the back seat. Whoa! I also discovered 28 grocery bags, a mini food processor, a Bundt pan, a partridge in a pear tree, and Jimmy Hoffa’s body in my old trunk!
I’ll bet there are lots of things you do every day. Eat? Feed a pet? Use your phone? Look for the things you already do as evidence that you do things every day.
Isn't this what normal people supposed to do weekly if not daily! Imagine having to tell grown adults to keep the place they live and relax clean. To me this sounds like lack of discipline to do what needs to be done in the moment. if someone's home is a complete mess.
Having recently worked in an elementary school, yes, adults need this. The lack of basic grooming, eating nutritious food and getting enough sleep is a huge problem. We expect kids to behave with very little support with just basic parenting.

Making my bed is very therapeutic. I walk thru my cluttered house, see my made bed and it helps me feel hopeful for the rest of my home.
I’m almost in tears because for more than 30 years, I didn’t do any of these and now I do them all. I started changing around 9 years ago and now these maintenance tasks are so normal I don’t even think about them as separate tasks. It can be done!!!!

I make my bed after my morning routine to give the linens time to air out, a tip I picked up not too long ago.

It just goes to show how many things we have to do every single day to live an ordinary lifestyle! Thank you for sharing this video💯

I do all of these. These are all realistic and effective. And your background is so pretty!
All 10 of these things are what my parents taught my siblings and I to do everday before school or play time. 😊
3:33 into the vid, the list begins. 😊
Yes, I was thinking, let’s get on with it. Good advice though! 😊

How do you clean the entire house in 15/minutes? Vacuuming, bathrooms, wash floors, dusting. Impossible
I already do all of these. Thanks for the suggestions. New here. Retired 5 years ago. Without a routine I would not get things done.
You are so welcome!

I just subscribed!! This is so needed for me. I like the term “maintenance.” Why I am not sure, but what you said resonates with me.
I can see how things like this are helpful. I do things slapdash and would like to have systems...will be checking out more of your content. Cheers!
Thank you so much , its so simple & will make my home easier to live in & the rubbish & pile up of dishes taken from my mind.
Love this video! Thank you! Will be watching more!

Very helpful tips. Thanks
❤thank you
Self care is a struggle for me for sure. I manage the rest without difficulty..made bed etc. but ...
Did you just paint the area over your sofa gray?
With ADHD, I don't think I could do anything every day, but I could certainly try.
I’ll bet there are lots of things you do every day. Eat? Feed a pet? Use your phone? Look for the things you already do as evidence that you do things every day.
@DeclutteringClub Guess I meant nothing additional beyond what's required...
Yes, you can. Don’t use adhd as an excuse. Make a list. Pick one or two things and do the.
No more top sheet! So much easier.
Are you a therapist or just brilliant or both?
❤
Don't pu it fown. Put it away😊
Yep!
This one was a life-changer for me.

Me too! It has made all of the difference!!
Why buy something if you aren’t going to open it??
I see this ‘collecting trash’ thing all the time. I don’t get this. Does everyone just leave trash all over the house?
Isn't this what normal people supposed to do weekly if not daily!

Not all of us are ‘normal’ like you. For some of us, this is a struggle
Too much talk. Too much explaining. Just cover each point
Way too much repetition. Spit it out and get on with it!
Some of us need the repetitive instruction. 😢😅
Move on if you aren’t happy!
