    I watched this video this morning and decided to go out for the 2nd time as a newly converted kayak fisherman. I threw the frog and first cast had a big blow up but didn't get the hook set. Ended up landing the biggest pike I've ever caught and a few other short strikes. I enjoy watching your videos and thanks for the encouragement to just get out there.

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад

      It all depends on how they’re biting. It’s rare here that I have to let the frog sit that long but there’s been a few times. It’s a short warm season here so the fish are generally aggressive all summer where if you get that frog anywhere near them they’ll smash it. I tried another new lake the other day and wasn’t catching much with my usual retrieve. It wasn’t until I started steady reeling that frog pretty fast they started smashing it through the pads!

    I've watched several of your videos and they are real good, so thanks for them. - I'm amazed as it seems where ever you are fishing that there are no other fishermen around. Must be nice to fish places where little or no fishing pressure is there. I fish the great lakes and the only way to get no one around is to find spots like that, but those spots usually don't contain a lot of fish. Don't get me wrong as the great lakes are stupendous for fishing. Keep up the vids so I can keep relaxing and watching them as I can see by the comments a lot of viewers feel the same!

    More 20 inchers at summers end. Plus, they were chunky boys as well. If you add the fact that they came from a new lake, I'd count it as a win-win kind of day. This spreading of your wings has seen an immediate payoff, and whilst it won't happen every trip, I hope it encourages you to keep exploring? 😊😊❤❤❤😊😊

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  Год назад +1

      I’ve had way more trips where I got skunked this year than those I had success. I tried a lot of new little lakes though and when the only info I have on them is satellite map you never know if or what fish they’ll hold. Lots of them had no signs of life. Anything shallower than 20ft there’s a good chance our harsh winters wipe out the fish population.

    • @markstott6689
      @markstott6689 Год назад

      @ndyakangler Living in a country that rarely gets bad winters anymore due to global warming, I find it hard to imagine winters that kill fish. It's 13 years since we had a severe (for us) cold spell where it dropped to -16°C for a couple of weeks at night, -5°C during the day. Compared to you that's probably nothing.
      I always find it sad when I hear of waters devoid of fish. Regardless, thank you for the update on your fish exploration attempts. It's appreciated.
      I'm just hoping that you get some more good days fishing before the freeze arrives in earnest.
      😊❤️😊

    My hookup ratio on frogs isn’t great for some reason, any tips for hooksetting these strikes? Seems like it should be the same as hooksetting any other top water. I’ve tried bending the hooks out slightly to expose them more, sweeping hook sets, steeple hooks sets, etc. but still not as productive as alternative top waters. Great content!

      I found I greatly increased my frog game this season by switching to JR sized frogs and cutting the "legs" half the size it comes out of the Box.
      It's like the bass aim for the legs or something so I cut all mine down. I Hook up 8/10 times now.
