Six more weeks until the wait is over. But who's counting...
When it comes to being an AWOL fan, after only about 6 months, I consider myself a novice fan, at best. Everyday, I work toward becoming a hardcore, professional, AWOL NATION fan.
I live in Ontario,Canada, and our radio stations only play Sail, and at the time didn't even know who sang it. I mention that because it's a crime toward all of humanity that this group isn't an integral part of everyone's life. My only complaint was, most songs weren't long enough. But I'm slowly starting to realize, that's the point, always leave them wanting more. I'm no cupcake or nothin', but I absolutely adore this band. This is coming from a mid 50yr old, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd die hard. Each song is like a 3 to 4 minute ride on the back of the Roadrunner, with barely time to take a breath as his direction
changes constantly.
As much as I would like to get into all the songs I like, I guess I just did, it's all of them. Special nod though to "Knights of Shame." I've lived a few years, and that one didn't just knock on the door of my top 5 favourite songs, it kicked all four walls in and then entered through the roof. Simply amazing song, its hard to describe, but every time that song ends, I have this odd feeling like someone I know well, has exited my life. Not necessarily in a negative, final way, but kinda like after watching the final episode of Breaking Bad, for about 2 weeks I felt like I had lost a good friend, sort of like that.
Anyhow, maybe I should stop listening to "Knights..." for awhile.
No one I know has ever heard of them, so I guess I just wanted to leave my opinion of AWOL with others that are more than capable of grasping onto what I'm throwing out there.

I absolutely understand what you’re talking about, and I think it’s so cool to see someone else who feels the same. Knights of Shame is my favorite song from them by far! It feels like you went on an entire journey throughout the song somehow and at the end it leaves you with that feeling. So hard to describe but I think you did it justice! I’m only 22 years old but as soon as I started to listen to them I knew they were something special. Can’t wait for their next album!

I would say the only band that would come close is Imagine Dragons, but that would only be based on the fact that every song has a different sound and feel. Both are two of my very favorites!
