The scene where Ryan Gosling punches the window and ends up in the ambulance was such unexpected, perfectly timed comedy I think I almost broke myself laughing so hard. Such a good movie.
This movie was so hilarious. Sadly it didn’t do well box office wise. I would of love a sequel with these characters. My favorite line in the movie is “sorry. I thought you were dead.” 😂
Both Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling have been pitching a sequel and are ready to go, but for some reason it hasn’t happened yet. They were great together and the physical comedy is top notch as well.
This Movie's severe underperformance perfectly captures what's wrong with modern society. People absolutely bitch and moan "Uhh Hollywood is just Reboots and Sequels now, they ran out of Ideas!!!!" But then a Gem like this comes along. Original, great marketing, funny and on top of that just overall really really good. And guess what, no one goes to see it, because it's not a sequel or reboot.
People surprised at Ryan Gosling's comedic chops in Barbie clearly didn't watch this movie. This has to be one of the most underrated movies I've ever watched.
There is something so funny about Ryan Gosling getting hurt here. The little noises he makes before his arm is broken, falling down a hill, and cutting his arm breaking in (always use your elbow kids) 🤣🤣🤣 It's a wild change from watching him get hurt in depressing ways (Drive, Only God Forgives, Blade Runner 2049) 😅
The only reason I saw this movie is because we had roofers, and I was trying to get out of the house to escape the noise. It was the only movie at the theater I hadn't seen yet so I said, "whatever why not." Absolutely loved it. So grateful for those roofers.
I remember my uncle rented this from redbox when it came out and watched it with him, my brother, and my friend and I absolutely loved it and the rest didn't like it because they were expecting a pure comedy and had false expectations
Ryan Gosling also showed that he has what it takes for comedy. I mean, we kinda saw that in "The Big Short" as well, but in combo with Russel Crowe it's perfection. Hilarious movie.
In case no one mentioned it yet the mangled corpse of Sid Shattuk is played by Robert Downey Jr and he's acted in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Val Kilmer, my favourite Shane Black movie
Literally everyone I know who has seen this movie loves it, unfortunately there's too few of us to win any polls. It was released at the same time as a bunch of anticipated movies, and most movie-goers went to see one of them instead of this unknown non-sequel, non-franchise original movie.
If you liked this, you'll definetly like "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which is directed by the same guy who did this movie (Shane Black). RDJ and Val Kilmer are awesome in it.
I'm so happy that you enjoyed this movie as much as you did! Really flew under the radar of many people but I feel like it's going to truly grow into a cult classic.
Such an underrated movie directed by the one and only Shane Black. He also directed a movie with Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
So, back the 70's, there wasn't even Moviephone. You'd call the specific theater and the outgoing message on the answering machine listed the movies and showtimes. The other option was too look up the showtimes in the newspaper where they had large picture ads for the bigger ones. Every weekend edition had line art pictures for the two adult film theaters. Right next to the same size ad for The Muppet Movie. The 70's were a wild time.
I was born in the '50s so I love movies about the '70s, especially when they get everything right. No cell phones, no computers it was different back then.
This is such a fun film and Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have such a great chemistry together. It’s a shame it wasn’t more popular a sequel would be awesome
When Ryan Gosling falls over the wall and finds the dead guy, his scared reactions with the wheezing and not being able to talk are a direct homage to Lou Costello from Abbott and Costello. They were a hugely successful comedy duo from the 40s and 50s.
I love this movie! Its one of the funniest buddy cop action comedy movies ever made! Too bad the sequel was cancelled as the film didn't make a profit, $70 million dollars against a $50 million dollar budget, and a spin-off TV series based on the movie was cancelled, as well.
This movie should not be watched without seeing Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang first or along with it. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer make for such another amazing pair!
Speaking as a teenager in the 70s, it was fun and way different. It wasn't perfect, but what decade is? The true crime here is, with all the streaming services available producing crap, why didn't anyone see this as a great opportunity to make a wildly hilarious series? Great time period, best music, wacky characters, and endless opportunities to grab from some of the best history. So glad you had fun with it.
Oh, a film very similar to this one: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Same guy, same general idea... private eyes in over their heads, chasing down a girl. Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. I consider this to be a spiritual sequel to it.
I'm so glad this movie is getting more attention. Anyone who saw this movie in 2016 and noticed the lack of success knew this movie was gonna be a cult classic.
What a surprise. Finally somebody reacting to this funny, funny movie. One of my favorites. So underrated. Incredible characters and performance. Glad you liked it. I hope some other reactors follow you.
The Nice Guys was absolutely hilarious, by far Shane Black best movie. The chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe is excellent and Gosling character's daughter played by Angourie Rice was just a pleasure to watch. The only sad thing is that there was no sequel made. Hope it does happen.
I worked at the movies when this came out and I was telling everyone I could to go see this flick, it’s probably the funniest film of the last 10 years
If you liked this, you'll like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -- very similar tone, same genre, written and directed by the co-writer and director of this one... and it's fantastic for all the same reasons.
It was written by Shane Black who did the Lethal Weapon movies and Iron Man 3 and shows how he’s of the best at the fun buddy cop (-adjacent) genre. There was talk of doing a tv show on Fox, but that never went anywhere I think because of budget and creative restraints (imagine this movie without all of the content it elwarned you about in the beginning)
I guess you’ll be doing “kiss kiss bang bang” (which is the spiritual and kind of actual sequel/prequel to this) soon!Enjoy! Maybe Lethal Weapon after that.
I loved this movie SO much, and still do. It's become a comfort movie for me and really let me know what a great comedic actor Gosling is. The director (Shane Black) is a little hit and miss for me (Loved "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" and "The Nice Guys." But don't really care for "Iron Man 3" and "The Predator." But, "The Nice Guys" is special for me. Really enjoy it.
Unfortunately this is a seriously underrated movie that did not so good numbers at the theaters. Shane Black is a master at making these movies. If you haven’t seen his other movie he did before this one, check out “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” with Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. It’s like this movie: a funny detective film noir style movie. It’s just as funny as this.
This movie was written & directed by Shane Black. He also wrote the screenplay for & directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, another criminally underseen movie. Definitely check that one out if you liked this one. Black famously came on the scene after writing Lethal Weapon, and co-writing all the movies in that series. But he also wrote The Last Boy Scout (1991), Last Action Hero (1993), and The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996). I suggest all three. The first is underrated, the second was before it’s time and has since become a bit of a classic, and The Long Kiss Goodnight is thoroughly enjoyable. I think this movie didn’t even make back its $70 million budget, which is criminal. It’s one of my favorite movies of the genre, one of my favorite movies in general, and also on my list of most rewatchable movies. If I’m not mistaken, this is the one movie he’s been in that Russell Crowe said he’d love to have a sequel. They had one planned & also a TV show, but that was all scrapped due to the turnout on this one. It’s hard to see it happening now. Critics enjoyed this, everyone I’ve ever seen that has seen it loves it. Sadly, most people haven’t seen it. And unlike other underrated movies, you are only one of a few reactors I’ve seen react to it, so it hasn’t seemed to gain much traction on that circuit, either.
"The Place Beyond The Pines" is another hidden gem of a Ryan Gosling movie. Also "Fracture" where he shares the screen with Anthony Hopkins in a glorious court-room drama with a twist!
If you liked this movie, be sure to watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is also written and directed by Shane Black and stars Robert Downey Jr. RDJ made a cameo appearance as the corpse of the porn producer Sid in The Nice Guys.
Kinda funny thing about a sequel for this. Is Russell Crowe actually said he will never do a sequel for any of his movies. Except Nice Guys. Only movie he'd even consider doing a sequel for.
Dude I also just watched this movie for the first time last week and had the same reaction. Such a great movie. Don’t know why it’s not more popular. Gosling is friggin hilarious in this.
Writer-director Shane Black specialises in buddy movies. He wrote Lethal Weapon and finally directed his own script with buddy movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. It's as good as the Nice Guys, if not better, but shared a similar fate at the box office.
The kid at beginning is Harley from Iron Man 3 (and 5 seconds in Endgame) and Gosling's daughter is Betty from the MCU Spider-Man movies. And Russel Crow is.... well I haven't watched that one yet.
This movie didn't get a lot of marketing, so it flew under a lot of people's radars, otherwise I'm sure it would have won some polls a lot sooner. There's tons of gems out there like this, but specifically clever crime films with witty banter falls under a lot of Guy Ritchie films like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, the remake of The Man from Uncle. On the American side Smoking Aces and Lucky Number Slevin are pretty good.
Nobody voted for it because nobody watched it. Before Shane Black directed this movie he directed my favourite movie of all time, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. When I went to the theatre, it was me, a friend, and one other person. It was one week after opening.
Ryan Gosling is incredibly talented This is one of those great movies that somehow flew under the radar and most people missed it, myself included, don’t remember this coming out at all. Friend of mine got me to watch this and now I own it on Blu-ray
Such a great movie. I've met Russell Crowe via work once and being an Aussie as well he was chatting with me for a while, hilarious bloke. I feel humour just comes naturally to these guys hence the chemistry.
One of both Gosling's and Crowe's best roles, and their chemistry is incredible.
The scene where Ryan Gosling punches the window and ends up in the ambulance was such unexpected, perfectly timed comedy I think I almost broke myself laughing so hard. Such a good movie.
"Blood. So much blood" He said the same line in Gray Man.
That was the moment I knew I was gonna love the movie! 😄
It's a really good introduction to the character as well!
This movie was so hilarious. Sadly it didn’t do well box office wise. I would of love a sequel with these characters. My favorite line in the movie is “sorry. I thought you were dead.” 😂
Oh man, seeing these two characters in the early 80's during the early yuppie era and Reaganism... Someone send Shane Black a message. 🤣
Nah "you're sister's such a slut"
You can’t even say Baryshnikov!
Funniest two for me is “what the fuck Chet” and when he gets drunk “answers to….. the call of the wild”
Both Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling have been pitching a sequel and are ready to go, but for some reason it hasn’t happened yet. They were great together and the physical comedy is top notch as well.
This Movie's severe underperformance perfectly captures what's wrong with modern society.

But then a Gem like this comes along. Original, great marketing, funny and on top of that just overall really really good.
And guess what, no one goes to see it, because it's not a sequel or reboot.
Love this film, it's criminal that it never got a sequel or even just another Gosling/Crowe team up
Ryan Gosling screaming and yelling "Jesus" is more than worth the price of admission. Also, the movie is fun.
People surprised at Ryan Gosling's comedic chops in Barbie clearly didn't watch this movie. This has to be one of the most underrated movies I've ever watched.
There is something so funny about Ryan Gosling getting hurt here. The little noises he makes before his arm is broken, falling down a hill, and cutting his arm breaking in (always use your elbow kids) 🤣🤣🤣
It's a wild change from watching him get hurt in depressing ways (Drive, Only God Forgives, Blade Runner 2049) 😅
He really is great in comedic roles, glad that more people realised that thanks to Barbie.
Yes, this film deserves a sequel. Even 8 years latter... set in the 80's. With Gosling, Crowe AND Angourie Rice.
This movie is so good, honestly one of the best executions of the genre. It's a shame it flew under the radar on release.
Kid who plays Chet is Val Kilmers son
"How is he just so chill"
The answer is alcohol. Copious amounts of alcohol. Hence why his daughter is driving.
I will never not be upset this movie didn’t get a sequel
Literally everyone I know who has seen this movie loves it, unfortunately there's too few of us to win any polls. It was released at the same time as a bunch of anticipated movies, and most movie-goers went to see one of them instead of this unknown non-sequel, non-franchise original movie.
When this came out in theaters, Detroit was in the middle of its business collapse, which made the final villain speech hilarious
If you liked this, you'll definetly like "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which is directed by the same guy who did this movie (Shane Black). RDJ and Val Kilmer are awesome in it.
I came here to say this.
I'm so happy that you enjoyed this movie as much as you did! Really flew under the radar of many people but I feel like it's going to truly grow into a cult classic.
I love this movie! It’s freakin hilarious! And Gosling and Crowe have such great chemistry. This deserved to be a hit, with sequels.
“Not the Yoohoo’s, man!” 😂😂😂 The best.
It's so nice that you're reacting to this movie because nobody does and it's so underrated
Such an underrated movie directed by the one and only Shane Black. He also directed a movie with Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
This movie is essentially Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's spiritual successor because he never got to do a sequel to that movie.
So, back the 70's, there wasn't even Moviephone. You'd call the specific theater and the outgoing message on the answering machine listed the movies and showtimes. Right next to the same size ad for The Muppet Movie. The 70's were a wild time.
This is one of the most underrated movies. I keep hoping they make a sequel the chemistry between the actors is so good
The body over the fence scene will forever crack me up 🤣
The reason the boy at the beginning looks familiar is because you probably recognize from iron man 3. He’s the kid that Tony becomes friends with
I was born in the '50s so I love movies about the '70s, especially when they get everything right.
No cell phones, no computers it was different back then.
One of my favorite comedies! So damn funny. Never would have guessed that Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling would make an amazing pair
this movie was a gem, not many people know about it and its a shame.
This is such a fun film and Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have such a great chemistry together. It’s a shame it wasn’t more popular a sequel would be awesome
Robin Williams famously said if you remember the 70s you weren’t there
9:22 I feel like your laugh at the Rim-job joke was not sufficient. 😂😂
This movie and his snl sketches are his best acting ever!!!
Random purchase I 100% never regretted. Watch it every couple months ❤
"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" with Robert Downey Jr. has the same kind of plot, same great laughs. The two movies should be thought of together.
When Ryan Gosling falls over the wall and finds the dead guy, his scared reactions with the wheezing and not being able to talk are a direct homage to Lou Costello from Abbott and Costello. They were a hugely successful comedy duo from the 40s and 50s.
Couldn't stop talking about this film after I saw it. So underrated...😂
This film is an underrated masterpiece and crying out for a sequel!
This Movie is Such a Such an Underrated Gem❤Should have gotten a Sequel...
I love this movie!
Its one of the funniest buddy cop action comedy movies ever made!
Too bad the sequel was cancelled as the film didn't make a profit, $70 million dollars against a $50 million dollar budget, and a spin-off TV series based on the movie was cancelled, as well.

the nice guys is such a funny movie, sad that it didn't get as much public attention when it was airing.
I'm so glad this movie is getting more attention. Anyone who saw this movie in 2016 and noticed the lack of success knew this movie was gonna be a cult classic.
Tonight's game: Drink Everytime V says 'the 70s we're a wild time..' 🤣
What a surprise. Finally somebody reacting to this funny, funny movie. One of my favorites. So underrated. Incredible characters and performance. Glad you liked it. I hope some other reactors follow you.
Gosling & Crowe: This movie is for the birds!!!!
I have ben screaming from the rooftops about this movie ever since it came out, glad you liked it
"don't say, and stuff" haha
“How is he like so chill”
He’s an alcoholic.
Ryan Gosling needs to be in more comedies.
I love how Ryan Gosaling is a heartthrob actor but his comic timing is spot on
I worked at the movies when this came out and I was telling everyone I could to go see this flick, it’s probably the funniest film of the last 10 years
This is one my favorite comedies of the last 10 years.
This is one of my favorite movies, extremely underrated. Ryan Gosling was amazingly funny. Glad you enjoyed it

Not enough people have seen this move, its so good.
I guess you’ll be doing “kiss kiss bang bang” (which is the spiritual and kind of actual sequel/prequel to this) soon!Enjoy! Maybe Lethal Weapon after that.
The detective that isn't Russell Crowe is Ryan Gosling and the movie was made in 2016 and Ryan Thomas Gosling was 36 in 2016.
Fun reaction! Love this movie. Something similar: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang by the same writer/director
Four words: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Edit: Two words technically.
If you haven’t seen it yet, watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Same writer director, same genre, with RDJ!
This has got to be one of the most underrated movies in the last 20 years. So many people o know have never heard of it.
It really reminds me of Shane Black's prior movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". So great.
I loved this movie SO much, and still do. It's become a comfort movie for me and really let me know what a great comedic actor Gosling is. I never wanted a sequel more than for The Nice Guys! Everyone behind the film wants to do it, so we need to get more people to watch it!
Kinda funny thing about a sequel for this. Is Russell Crowe actually said he will never do a sequel for any of his movies. Except Nice Guys. Only movie he'd even consider doing a sequel for.
This is one of my favorite movies ever, so glad more people are finding it!
If you're on a Gosling kick I would recommend Crazy, Stupid, Love. R.G., Steve Carell, Emma Stone movie. Pretty wholesome.
Great movie, the Dirty Dancing scene is one of my favorite comedic scenes of all time!
@@korganrocks3995 everyone does such a good job where it's a solid movie all around, imo.
This movie is an underrated gem.
My favorite Ryan Gosling movie, he is absolutely hysterical in this 😂
Most underrated comedy of the past decade. I seriously don't understand how a movie this funny (especially in today's age) wasn't a major hit.
Dude I also just watched this movie for the first time last week and had the same reaction. Such a great movie. Don’t know why it’s not more popular. Gosling is friggin hilarious in this.
This movie is great. Way tooo funny. Weirdly underrated

"I'm sorry you looked like a Filipino"
I LOLed at that too, and i'm a Filipino 😂
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Similar fun, also written by Shane Black
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang by Shane Black is also an exceptional movie.
Definitely one of the most criminally underrated movies of all time.
Fun fact: RDJ played Sid Shattuck.
For me, this film was a hidden gem! so much fun to watch! Thanks for reacting to it!
One of my favorite parts wasn't in the clips.....I think I'm invincible! I don't think I can die! It's the only explanation!
I adore this movie!! Also, I don't know if anyone else has said this but the body of Sid Shattuck is actually Robert Downey Jr!!
If you are interested in movies similar to this one. Check out The Rundown (2003) and Midnight Run (1988).
Nobody voted for it because nobody watched it. Before Shane Black directed this movie he directed my favourite movie of all time, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. When I went to the theatre, it was me, a friend, and one other person. It was one week after opening.
Quite the funny flick, great chemistry the characters have in this movie!
This is one of my fave movies. It was criminally underrated at the box office. Shane Black is one of the best filmmakers.
One of the best comedic movies ever
I don't know if you've seen it yet, but you should check out. Kiss kiss bang bang with Val kilmer and Robert Downey Jr
Not sure if someone commented this yet, but that dead body is actually played by Robert Downey Jr.
This movie feels so much like KissKissBangBang
Ryan Gosling is incredibly talented
This is one of those great movies that somehow flew under the radar and most people missed it, myself included, don’t remember this coming out at all. Friend of mine got me to watch this and now I own it on Blu-ray
Such a great movie. I've met Russell Crowe via work once and being an Aussie as well he was chatting with me for a while, hilarious bloke. I feel humour just comes naturally to these guys hence the chemistry.
