Let the good times roll ;)
i’m here for the countdown premiere 😭🍿less goooo
You're not wrong, the movie died at the box office. Too bad, because it's one of the tightest scripts I've ever seen and I think it would've been easy to bring these characters back for another one.
The best movies are the cult classics.. Hollywood is inept, and never markets the films that deserve it correctly..
@@StayFractalesquei mean it’s not “hollywood”s job to market movies, that’s up to the studios. The studio ruined this movie, not “hollywood”. Marketing sucked and release date was terrible. It’s not as bad as “last action hero” being released alongside jurassic park with no real marketing, but it was up there as far as marketing screw ups go.
@@zimvader25 ....durrrr whaaaa??? ...bruh.. whatchu talking about man??? ..are you talking about the "Hollywood studio system" like it's not one single ugly conglomerate??
Everyone involved with this movie has said they would be more than happy to make a sequel, but the film just didn't do well enough. Then again, not everything needs to be a trilogy.
I remember being livid once I realized it was actually a real movie and not just some advertising stunt for the theater (they used clips from it as an "at the movies" bumper). What the advertisers did to this movie was criminal
One of the biggest crimes in Hollywood is that this film did not do well. I'm glad people are still discovering it though!
Such a rewatchable film as well.
This movie and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang have the same buddy, quirky, funny energy for me and I can watch both over and over. In fact I am going to queue up a double feature right now.
Im glad more people are watching and appreciating this movie, it definitely didn't get the chance it deserved when it released.
A film bombing at the box office isn’t always an indication of its quality…. This is an absolute classic.
The ankle gun delayed pay-off joke absolutely killed me first time watching, and it never fails every other time I've seen this.
Shane Black is at his best when he he's making movies like this. The chemistry between the two leads is gold.
"...don't say _"And stuff"_ " lol god I love this movie, it's so funny
It's a shame this didn't do well at the box office. This is a fantastic film. It's a film noir buddy cop whodunnit comedy. So many genres seamlessly rolled into one. The script is amazing.
I loved that he thought he couldn't die.
16:05 Ryan Gosling's wheezing and stammering reaction to finding the corpse (Robert Downey Jr. in an uncredited cameo) is an homage to a bit Lou Costello, of the comedy team Abbott & Costello, used to do (most famously in "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" - a movie one of your troupe should watch for Halloween). Also, the punch combo Russell Crowe uses on Keith David is the same as the one he used on Joaquin Phoenix in "Gladiator." The who made "The Nice Guys" loved sneaking in movie references like that.
I was going to mention the Costello reference! I'm a huge fan of Abbott and Costello! And I loved this movie!
I thought it was the Three Stooges but your right. Too funny.
I also liked the bird references he put into it.
I think of this movie whenever people (including myself) say "and stuff" in real life.
this is a hidden gem, amazing writing from start to finish.
One of the funniest Buddy Cop Action Comedy movies ever made!
There were talks of a Sequel, but it was cancelled due to the poor box office, $70 million dollars against a $50 million dollar budget.
There were talks of a TV series, but it's likely to have been shelved.
This is one of my favorite films in the last 10 years. It’s clever and Ryan and Russell together is perfect. That little girl is killer. She was in the newer Spider-Man films a bit, but the last big roll she had was the New Mean Girls film. I think she played the Lohan roll.
The saddest thing about this is that the sequel they clearly wanted and should’ve been will never happen. I could watch a dozen films with these guys.
It's criminal that this movie didn't do better at the box office. Shane Black had expressed a great interest in making a sequel, and then some.
so good
Ryan Gosling comedies are so good. It's a shame he's not looking to do roles like this anymore. He's so good at dark comedy but he doesn't like where it takes him emotionally.
Drive, La La Land, The Big Short... Gosling is versatile, but his comedy chops are phenomenal! I love his brief homage in this film to horror/comedy-vintage Lou Costello (when March discovers the corpse of Sid "Hatrack" and begins sputtering, wheezing, etc.). It's brilliantly modulated -- very funny without being "zany."
Angourie Rice, the actress playing Holly, is Australian as well.
Strange, her name sounds Asian.
The chemistry between Russel Crowe, and Ryan Gosling is phenomenal. . And the actress who plays the daughter is amazing. Great reaction. And a great film
Yes, the song is called escape, and it’s about a husband and wife trying to cheat on each other however, the attempt to do so leads them back to each other.
It is criminal that this movie didn't do well and result in a few equally great sequels.
Fun fact: Chet (the projectionalist) is played by Val Kilmer's son Jack.
So strange when people name their kid after something you do when you don't want a kid.
Shayne Black also wrote Lethal Weapon. He deserves may wore movies
Dude, he's like, the action comedy writer of hollywood.. he's done so many movies, you wouldn't believe.. go watch the actual film, don't just watch reactions, they cut out everything good..
The Long Kiss Goodnight is also an underrated classic of his!
Nice reaction - I think there has been recent talk about a possible Nice Guys 2, which may do better now that more ppl know about the 1st film, plus the success of Barbie and the demand for Gosling in comedic roles - other unexpectedly fantastic crime thrillers that flew under the radar include Deep Cover, Manhunter, The Yards, The Funeral, Blow Out, Long Goodbye, Inherent Vice, One False Move, The Grifters, In a Lonely Place, In the Cut
2016 just wasn't the year for a buddy cop comedy. The personal stories were more popular at the time, meaning films like Mad Max Fury Road (2015), Spectre (2015), and Deadpool (2016). Had The Nice Guys come out in 2019, next to films like 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and Knives Out, it would have done a lot better.
The 70s isn't that popular a period either. The film 'Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game' from last year is also a very underrated 70s film. So is Licorice Pizza (2022) written by Paul Thomas Anderson.
Further proof that theatrical success is not indicative of a movie’s quality. Plenty of really stupid movies make a billion dollars.
Well, yes, Fast and Furious proves that ... *_hard._*
@@pistonburner6448And the Transformer films😞
Such a Great Film, Ryan and Russell are Classic, you said it best, Let the good times roll! Thank You and Coby for the nice Saturday Night Treat......May the Force be with You....Always.
May the 4th be with you, always
This fast became one of my comfort movies.
Sorry I am late to this. Never saw this movie, but will look for on cable now having seen your awesome reaction. Cobi is beyond dear and The Best movie reactions!! So dear in reactions, laughs, facial expressions and remarks!! Thanks for the quality and Happy Mothers Day to good Mums on this Nice Gal's Criminal channel!!
The movie got high marks from critics and audiences, not sure why it didn’t do well at the box office. Glad to see this movie getting the love it deserves.
Yeeeees. So pleased you’re reacting to this movie. It’s one of favourites in recent years. The chemistry between gosling and Crowe is great and angourie rice is a star. Amazing cast, direction and script.
I went to watch this movie when it first came out and I was cracking up and the other people looked at me Mike I was crazy. I don’t think they understood the comedy in this movie which was genius. The acting was top tier and the little girl was absolutely amazing. Sad that the general public djdnt go to theaters to watch this severely underrated movie. Wish they had made a sequel because Crowe, Ryan, and the little girl were magical on screen. Great movie and review/reaction 👍
Happy May the 4th be with you👹🪄💥
always ;)
I don't think any movie has ever made me laugh as much as this one. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is damn close though.
Absolutely brilliant film! Glad you checked it out! We really need a sequel! 😎👍
Agreed!!
At the bottom of the hill, Ryan Gosling, was doing an impression of an, Abbott and Costello, movie. Props for them. Specifically, Bud Abbott's reaction to anything weird. Loved it
Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys. Shane Black Trilogy. Every Christmas.
TLKG, Renny Harlin's movie, are you serious? ˆˆ; It's an awful movie. The silly villain... even as a kid, I was embarrassed for the actor.
@@SCharlesDennicon Sam Jackson is hilarious. Geena never looked better. Watch last boy scout instead. Or lethal weapon. No need to hate x
So so good watching this again. Thanks Coby ❤
Glad to see someone appreciate this movie like it should be. Also, shoutout to you name dropping Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Also, so good!!
This film is essentially the spiritual successor to The Last Boy Scout (1991) which is also written by Shane Black. I think you’d enjoy that one as well.
It's much better than TLB, though. TLB is an entertaining buddy movie directed by Tony Scott at the top of his game, but it's nowhere near as memorable as TNG. I never felt the need for a sequel to that movie, unlike TNG.
@@SCharlesDennicon Sure. I like The Nice Guys better, too. But they're both fun movies to watch.
I think JohnBoy is more known for the TV series of IT more than the Waltons nowadays.
at around 4:00 min I can tell you that the machine he is using is made to be used on the way. instead of cutting the hairs outside it has a metal plate with holes to only cut what goes though. it keeps most of the hairs insid, if not all of them.
Awesome, my favorite reactor watching one of my favorite movies. 😀
Love the two actors, Coby, from Blade Runner 2049 & Thor Love & Thunder. What a crazy funny crime drama! A bumbling PI and his enforcer. Twists and turns always kept me guessing. Bang, bang, bang. Who dies next? Lol
Their chemistry is fantastic. If the actual story had been stronger this would have been a classic. A sequel would have been great, though, if only to see these two work together again.
Those old electric shavers, the hairs went inside and you could dump the hairs out and start again. My dad had on of those.
That movie is a gem. Loved it.
❤❤❤ YES!!💯Coby! Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a Masterpiece & one of my favorites of all time also.
You would absolutely love the 70s buddy film FREEBIE AND THE BEAN...James Caan and Alan Arkin. One of the first comedy cop buddy films.
A truly underappreciated film,
I’m so glad you did this one.
It wasn’t well promoted, and did poorly so I ignored it. But I watched it on DVD a year later and it immediately became one of my all time favorite comedies. I couldn’t believe how good it was to have died so badly in theaters.
I grew up in the 70s so the nostalgia factor was high with this one too.
PS: the yellow pages ad at the end was a nod to The Rockford Files. 😉
How on Earth can you keep from spitting out your drink during some of the these hilarious moments is beyond me. I nearly spit out my drink at least 6 times while I watched this film in the theater! Your reactions are so real and priceless! If you want to watch the funniest Sylvester Stallone movie is "Oscar." PS: If you do keep track of the black bags. 😉
You're right, this and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are both fantastic!
One of the best comedies in a long time. Real shame there hasn't been another made.
This, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Boyscout, and the first two lethal weapon flims are definitive Shane Black.
Monster Squad & Night of the Creeps withstanding.
I would throw in The Long Kiss Goodnight in there too.
@@alexp601 dammit how could I forget sweet old Charlie Baltimore.
I love Shane Black movies especially this one and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!
Good choice!
Such a sweet sibling to ”Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”.
You’re great and lovely and everything. Thanks…
I watched this movie ona free stream site after out of theaters. HIGH AF! For the first time in forever... when the car crashed thru the house in the beginning , i had to take a 20 minute break😂 one of the best experiences of my life watching this blazed. I laughed so hard, and all the impossible situations just rolled me.
we keep coming back to this one - in ten years it’ll be known as one of the greatest cult films
....great reaction...thanks...
one of my favorite movies!
If you love the 70's, I think you'd love Dazed and Confused and recognizing all the stars from that movie!
This movie needs a sequel!!
sure does !
Criminally underrated.
well said !
@@criminalcontent I was hoping you got that 👍🏼
I liked your reaction and stuff.
I still wish for a part 2
New to your channel love you're reactions
thanks !
@@criminalcontent welcome
All I have to say is that I love this movie and it was hysterical. I am smiling right now just thinking about how funny this movie is.
so good
AMERICAN GANGSTER - if u haven’t seen it.
Russell and Denzel at their best.
You have to question the mermaids, obviously
Australian accent?
Angourie Rice (Ryan Gosling's daughter) is an Australian
I wonder if the joke about Amelia's mom "with Jack the Ripper" was a reference to Mary Steenburgen in TIME AFTER TIME?
The best comedy in a looong time ❤
I'm invincible! It's the only thing that makes sense!
Knew you'd love this one. :)
I can say at least for me, looking back at what was going on at the time, I missed this because it was sandwiched right between Captain America Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse, two films that completely took my cinema attention that month. I really think it was just unfortunate release timing, can't imagine I was the only one in that situation.
This movie fucking rules. I saw it in theaters on a whim. It hooks you in the first 2 minutes and doesn't let up. Shane Black also wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which is another classic of similar vibes. Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. Both fantastic movies.
She knows her actors, that's very impressive
Yeah, it was unfortunate timing for the release. Angry Birds and Neighbors 2 came out the same weekend, and Captain America: Civil War was still in theaters. Plus it was playing in less theaters than those other films. WB should have pushed it more.
Oh, okay it's "Criminal Content", not "Criminal Content", I thought maybe Coby was perfectly okay with being on the wrong side of the law, and I was like, "Well, that doesn't sound like Coby."
This movie is what ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD could only hope to be
Not really, because Tarantino wasn't trying to make a film like this.
@@alexp601 yeah he made a movie that had no plot. Black recreated the period, but also had a story with narrative discipline and payoffs, as well as crackerjack dialogue. Because he's not pretentious, he'll never be as well-regarded as Tarantino, but his writing and film making are better.
This was a very good movie. But as another good movie Agents U.N.C.L.E. there is no sequel, but it deserves one(or a few)
I need this sequel in my life
F*CK. YES. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!!
I can't wait. Coby's gonna love this one 🤩🤩🤩🤩
39:16 Bad/no marketing. Same thing with 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang', really. Shane Black needs to include more money in his budgets for better (or maybe even 'any') marketing firms, I guess...
I was shocked after I heard this movie didnt make money. I went and saw it twice. Dont know how this wasnt a huge hit.
You'd love the jump street films
I just watched this movie for the first time the other week. It was fun.
Shane Black is very underrated
Prepare for fun! 😎
I saw that in the theatre and it was awesome. I also couldn't understand why it didn't do better at the box office.
never heard of it in the theaters b¨t when i seen it blown away, like two days in the valley
If there's a movie screaming for a sequel, this is it.
they literally go into business at the end
I SO LOVE THIS MOVIE
Robert Downey Jr was Sid Shadduck corpse.
Ken & Gladiator duo 🍿 are you not entertained!???
That's Robert Downey Jr. as the corpse of Sid Shattack! For an even better version of The Nice Guys read his 2003 draft of the script. Different mystery, more great dialogue. It's one of the best screenplays I ever read.
There are TONS of movies out there that get overlooked (no pun intended) because they are either old or overshadowed by more popular (but not necessarily better) movies.
This film, like you, is very charming.
Have you seen L.A. Confidential(1997) yet with Russel crowe and Kim basinger its a cool cop movie set in the 1950's.
I was hoping with the success of Barbie that Ryan Gosling can get a Nice Guys 2 done.
it's more of a shane black thing, from what we hear, he's filming something now in australia
Another movie that Coby would enjoy that didn't do well at the box office is Lisa Frankenstein. I hope it finds it's audience streaming or home video.
hmmm, very very interesting suggestion - we'll bring that up to her
I saw this movie in theatres. Shame nobody else did.
