MMDA Water Hyacinth Removal

- Watch how the MMDA are removing water hyacinths from the Pasig River to ensure the Ferry Service can operate without disruption.
Aside from using cranes and backhoes to remove the water lilies, they have two new skimmer boats.
The two new boats were custom made to the specifications of 'Save the Sea Inc', as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts.
The boats were made in China, dismantled, shipped to the Philippines and then reassembled and loaned to the DENR. The DENR then passed them onto the MMDA, to enhance their existing water-hyacinth operations.
The MMDA operate a similar boat from another manufacturer, but it's in the Malacanang area. For security reasons, It's prohibited to take photos or videos in that area - strictly enforced by the Philippine Coast Guard
Gadget Addict is different from the rest of the vloggers. A class of his own. Kudos.
Korek ka dyan !!!

Legit
Agree, we should learn from him. No overshowing of face and no annoying music, good narration, and simple but good camera shots.
Waterway Maintenance, a never ending story, but so worth the effort. Congratulations MMDA.
Michael O'Donoghue--
Right. I agree. Waterway Maintenance, is always a Good thing!👍
I Wish WE Had that type of Machinery/Technology,👏 to do that kind of job, here in the USA!!👍😉☺😊
Whatever other people say, our current government are making solutions for the betterment of our country. Thank you for sharing this.
It’s an obstruction to the water ways especially in an urban city who floods a lot
You may remove the water hyacinth from there but please you must not remove all. It could be a great filter for the contaminated water. MMDA should just check time to time if water hyacinths are getting many and reduce it in enough numbers
Ethiopia needs this for lake tana!!!!!!!
Yes your correct
Couldn't the government see along time ago they had the problem? Hello Philippines
These days, I trust vlogs more than mainstream media spreading fake news. You should cover the Sea Games too. 👍
Same here specially for us OFWs 👍🇵🇭
Its crazy that mainstream media is critizing Duterte. In other countries they respect this guy for standing up and being a critical thinker. Media is full of fake news, people in developing nations should just think twice and look for facts..
Finally we have this technology to clean the historical Pasig river. People are feeling good about this project and it is good for the country. Congratulations!
why not upgrade it by making a much wider conveyor to really pull out those lilies out of the river
@@mykovrivera3716 Add a set of barges that hook up to the Lilly eater and load out the lilies the go dump. around and around

I like this Admin, treat nature with Respect and keep the place clean. Been so polluted with the last 4 admins. And now this admin decided to clean up many places. Clean and green is gorgeous!

Additional improvement for the hyacinth remover is to add a floating "V" shape in front of the boat to improve coverage.
Thank you so much for the donation.

What a great continuing effort to allow traffic on the river-----I hope the ferry runs more often and to its regular schedule----twice I have tried to ride the ferry only to be told that it wont be running for the next few hours or sorry it wont go to that station until later today-----a quick way to cross from Malati to Manila
Give up the ferry and switch to an airboat
Very innovative piece of equipment 👏👏👏 😊 Kudos to the very generous sponsor of this machine. And to you Sir, Gadget Addict, for showing us and to the public this event. Thank you 🙏
Finally, a vlog that makes sense. i had enough of food challenges, buffet vlogging, complaint vlogging etc.
One thing worth mentioning is that the water lillies are doing some good too. They're grabbing onto phosphate and nitrate pollution and stopping it going out to sea, so the lillies can be used as compost fertiliser to recycle those essential nutrients (especially the phosphates, which are in short supply).
THEY CAN RECYCLE THOSE WATER HYACINTH INTO BIOFUELS LIKE WHATS BEING DONE IN KENYA , ALSO MAKE THOSE INTO PAPERS , OR EVEN ORGANIC FERTILIZERS ..
Tama po
Correct
That’s true good Fertelizers, organic no need to buy commercials fertilizer
Can you eat them or feed them to livestock?
They are so beautiful, men always trying to mess with nature 😡
I recently filmed my trip for my RUclips channel Train Lord Pasig River ferry from San Joaquín to Guadalupe. I have certainly seen huge quantities of the water lillies on this river which will remain a continuous problem. Hopefully they can separate the lillies from the other garbage in order to recycle it as future fertiliser. It would be great to have an efficient and reliable river ferry system for the Pasig River in the future. Thanks for posting.
Used to watched GA's postings before but got turned off by the fact that he disables comments on the videos. Glad to see you can add comments now.
Ang galing ng nag design ng machine to get rid of water lily at puwede rin gamitin to remove garbage sa estero. Congrats MMDA, good job, mabuhay po kayo and God bless.
Water hyacinths provide food and filtration and also provides nutrients to soil etc. But in large quantities it can hinder transportation and water flow. Since there's abundance, we can actually have a processing plant to create biodegradable paper based materials using the said plant, convert to fertilizer and food for agricultural, horticultural and industrial animal farming processes. Sana matugunan sa ganung paraan.
red_ashcroft pigs would love to eat these, so start a pig farm😁
My little brain cant handle this
@@stormcomilang869 sa totoo lang, pwede gawing feeds. Imagine you can make paper from this. Dun pa lang ok na. Paper plates, notebooks, books etc. Tapos wala kang resources na ginagamit sa pagpapalaki, at pagtatanim nito. Pwede diba. Sa Uganda ginagamit nila lahat to.
I hope the effort of cleaning up rivers will continue. Very informative vlog, thanks for sharing these informations
Hope they buy more of these Boats..
Finally! They just realize that? It should be done in a daily if not weekly basis. At Jones bridge , the river was totally engulfed with water lilies. Thanks for your video. From Canada!
They could bee composted and used as organic fertilizer.
Yew Tan they can use it as charcoal
@@axlrosepagdanganan840 that and a whole lot more. Its use can only be limited by Filipino imagination and ingenuity. That is why advanced countries are rich, they innovate.. With ideas, they turn things into cash

Thank you so much for your kind heart and helping the Philippines 🇵🇭
This is what we need in Laguna de Bay. People from Talim Island are having a hard time. Their source of income lies in the lake. I hope they help Talim Island people as well.
Truths...Sana oil🤔it will help a lot specially talim island's only transportation is through boats...where lilies Are everywhere😭...
Someone from my highschool 2 years ago made a research on turning water hyacinth into paper. That might be interesting
Its nice to see those are been cleaned, what a change. Thank you mayor isko, you're the only one who do it.more power to you god be with you always.
Still, looks better than all the river trash before.
I couldnt agree more 🤣
Don't they have animals that eat this stuff or is it the water too poluted.
i agree but still clogs the river
I live in the barangay where that floodway is situated. The water hyacinths/lillies are a seasonal thing, but when it is in season the entire river literally looks like a field. This is cool to see.
You should cover the SEA Games at the New Clark City recently built by the government.
Very nice equipment. One improvement could be to have a shredder before it goes into the collection hopper. Or have a tug that can take them to the dumping station so that it doesn't waste time running out to the dumping station itself.
I would encourage the universities to assign their students to come up with uses for the water lillies.
Water Hyacinth was cultivated in the Pasig River as a form of natural water filter to clean up the toxins dumped into the river from manufacturing plants located next to the river. The problem is that the plants are invasive. The plants grow and multiply at a fast rate.
Imagine using those truckloads of water lilies, not just for livelihoods projects but as a renewable resource for a biogas power plant. Now that's an idea.
That's great idea sir..
MMDA should rent a big barge that would be towed behind by a tugboat and following the water lily boat.
evrar18 The owners might be so greedy having it rent. Talking about money and coruption. There are a lot there just sitting and rusting. They should donate it.
evrar18 , good idea! Hopefully MMDA listens.👍
That was nice of a company to donate those hyacinth. If more private companies help out like that it would be great.
Cold countries have ice breakers. PH has water lily breakers. Huehuehue.
Idsel Seno haha
WOW👍Hooray to MMDA & administration for non-stop solutions in cleaning up our environment👌👍🤳🏻👏hope this shuts up gov’t critics both local & abroad!! Good environment is our children’s future👏👏👏
Water lily could be used as raw materials for cloth manufacture.
yes I hope it will re-introduce and produce more clothes for anyone who needed
@The Drive not recycle
Almost identical to an idea I tried to promote over 20 years ago, I was told that I was crazy. (I didn't have the funds to create a prototype) I eventually sent the idea to a University in Holland. It's great to see it in action. The water hyacinth is good animal fodder.
The water lily can be use to make slippers..
Yes...many uses frm water hyacinth....pulverized for fertilizer...brown paper....stalk for making beautiful hand bags...it can also help purify water in rivers...ponds....our govt must conduct more reaserch for water hyacinth ...good use...benefits
Thank you for showing this..our mainstream media doesnt cover this. Its good to know that the country have this type of machines.
It was left unattended for decades.
Amazing street/water view. An entire ecosystem of lilies. Thanks for sharing.
I think it's good to maintain the water Lilly's but they shouldn't kill them off because they help to clean and purify the polluted water.
I salute those people who find solutions to make our rivers clean. Shame on people who finds a way to criticize the government.
They should make the dumped water lilies in to organic fertilizers and donate them to the farmers,
Gadget addict is number one ☝️ in my opinion very professional blogger
Your vlogs are informative. You’re doing a great job! Keep it up!
Wow..what a good news..thnaks for vlogs..God bless you..thanks God for sponsors of these efficient machines
Does water hyacinth helps to reduce or filter the pollution in the water?
Yes it helps in purifying water.
yes at certain amount, but too much does not help, because it blocks the sun going to the water.
Thank you, Gadget Addict, for your public service.
Isn’t that water hyacinth are cleaners of the river and breeding grounds of fish? If so, it should not be totally removed or destroyed.
Yes...But they are invasive. And too much of it is not good, bcoz it can clogged up the propellers of the passing boats. Also the water can't flow well and garbages can be stucked under those plants that can cause floods in the city.
They are but very invasive. They clog waterways and destroys boats. There are still wooden banka/motorboat aside from the government owned ferry. Not to mention other boats that transport other heavy stuffs using the river.
Nice answers.
I hope that machine were huge as big as ship so they could get a vast of waterlilies. But so far your doing great job on maintaining the river neat at les garbage. Implement rules for dumping garbage and litter directly in the river, removed all informal settlers to all walks of metro manila particularly to those nearby the river.
Water lily has a number of benefits for the skin and hair. don't throw, just manufacture, water lily that has many medical benefits ranging from lung conditions, gastrointestinal conditions and skin conditions.

Wow this video is a hope to the Filipino people.
Didn't know we have this type of machine. Many thanks to the one who donated it. We should have more. A very positive video. Thanks
Hoping they can turn that into something else.
Rick Roll Rizal can
bio-fuel
You can also extract the fiber and blend it with cotton for yarns and fabric

It is so nice MMDA has the capacityto deal with these weeds.
Wow, glad to hear more and more good news, such a positive work strategies going on in the Philippines. I miss and love my country. British-Filipino watching here xx. Best wishes!
Water lilies are money. Crush them, dry and make charcoal...
and then use them to fuel power plants.... great idea
carlo angelo invent a stove for it. For homes or carenderia's.
Good idea mate
The same thing with Carpa fish here in my state. They were shocked dumami ang Asian carpa and its not small but huge one. But someone thought of how to do the fish after they catch it, they sell it to company who made cat foods. Problem solve. So go kayo sa mga invention nyo.
this water hyacinth can be made into bio fuel
I was thinking the same thing about bio fuel
Hope there are program to develop such machinery to turn those into biofuel
Biomass powerplant would be the best to utilize them as fuel. We need investors as government isn't inclined to build such.
Correct!
Compost as well or mulch.
Oh, wow, great machine!!! Thanks to the donors of those boats with water lily removal equipment! Yeah, better and faster than the regular crane. Great invention!
On the other side, waterlillies are also benificial to our environment
It's an invasive specie and carries parasites. Good where it originally came from but not here.
Very nice & informative video. Can't get enough these kind of Vlogs. 👍
These used to be ornamental water plants imported from other countries but somehow managed to infiltrate our waterways and now became pest
Just like plecos.
Interesting info!
The original vlogger with a touch of class-more power to you!
they should be careful theres' a lot of snake living on that water lily
That was incredible. Who ever invented this machine saves so much manpower, money and most specially beneficial and really does the job. Amazing.
How healthy are the water lilies , nutrient dense river 😂😂🤣

they can do a composting plant and give it to farmers for free
every city around pasig river should have a composting area.
to promote backyard gardening
Or use it as feedstock for a biogas plant. Once the gas has been used, the compost can be used as organic fertilizer.
Or there should be a portable biogas processor for sale in the market like some countries do, in order to help their trash problem in the City.
How are the water lilies being disposed of?
Dagdagan pa nla ung equipmnt na yan, is very effective. 👍
IT WAS NICE SEEING DUTERTE GOVERNMENT CLEANING THE RIVER NOT LIKE THE PLUNDERER PRESIDENT THAT THROWED GARBAGE ON THE RIVER FOR PHOTO OPS. LOL.

Different types of dried hyacinths products are being exported here in Canada from China. Mostly basket type of different uses, like hampers, flower pot covers, table top runners placemats etc. Some one from Design Center Philippines (is this organization still alive?) should give an idea to the city and work with them. This would be a good source of income for Isko's constituents. All they need is manpower. Don't need to buy the hyacinths. PLEASE, SOMEONE CLOSE TO YORME, TELL HIM ABOUT THIS IDEA.
that is good, our country should have these machines to help with cleaning up. Good job MMDA, pinagaganda at nililinis nyo ang ating bansa. thank you Gadget Addict for posting this...i dint know about this till i saw on fb
I live in the United state and very very happy that this river cleaning is going on. I was dreaming of raising fund to buy and donate a machine like what they have now. I never knew that they have this kind machine already. I have a restaurant business in Los Angeles and i know a lot of wealthy businessmen here. I think I can raise an amount of money to buy such kind of machine. Unfortunately I don’t where to buy and how much it’s cost.
