Man you didn’t even hit them with no kee-kee cackle cluster or no pitch put purr down combo. Remember though as a good rule of thumb call them uphill whenever possible. Generally if you have decoys out and you are calling them up hill they’ll spot the decoy and try and hang up at a killable distance. They’ll see a decoy coming down hill from a mile away and most of the time hang up at 50 yards+. I’ve killed 3 birds calling them up hill and one on flat ground. Never shot one over 17 yards. But I’ve never had one come down hill. I personally don’t use decoys in the woods for the reasons of turkeys hanging up at distance because they seen a decoy but we can’t see them. But I’ve never had a decoy work for me either.
Why do all that fancy calling when they are fired up already it seemed to work whatever I did. I ain’t no Turkey hunter, I’m all bout the ducks so keeping it simple seems to pay off for me personally. It’s rewarding being different from everyone else especially doin it on public land

Personally I have not seen many hop a creek or climb a hill but Ive seen plenty come down a hill. As for you not killing them over 17 yards Im sorry but I will call your bluff on that unless you have only killed like 2 turkeys in your life or you have missed all the others over 17 yards.
