Tips For Scouting Ducks - Put In Your Own Work!
Does your motor get hot?, my motor i can only get about 45 mins before it starts to die and get super super hot
Mine never got hot. I now use the heavy duty one from McKenzie and that thing is well worth the money!
Hey so I duck hunt and I have a dog and my dog is 3 and I am 12 year old and one thing I learned is to buy about 10 bumpers online and throw those instead of baseballs and when throw the bumpers say dead bird then send the dog
He was still a puppy during this time. All I throw now is dead doves, ducks, and geese he’s a year and half old now and a perfect meat dog!
@ ya I threw baseballs with my dog when I was little know we throw ducks doves etc
Yup! That’s how it’s done ppl get to caught up on these training guides .. just make it fun for the dog and yourself and make the transitions as they continue to learn.
How do you thaw the bird out before you mount it? Would you just let it sit out for days or heat it up somehow
Just set it out around 14-18 hours prior to wanting to skin I have my house set for 70 degrees . I wouldn’t heat it up
Trimmed TOO MUCH FAT!!😢
How long did it take for you to flesh this bird??
Hey there brother! Just PCS’d here and trying to get on some birds. I’ve got a boat and I’ve tried a few places, Barkley and Haynes, but have had no luck. Any recommendations on spots to check out? Not trying to steal a honey hole, just looking for some ideas, thanks man! Happy hunting
@@AFFIRMATIONcrew I’m struggling myself as well this season. I’d give ya some ideas if I had them but I’m to the point I may really wait til later in the season once we get a freeze
Can you do this in multiple sittings or do you recommend the whole skinning, defleshing, washing portion all in one sitting
Excellent question. The answer is the freezer is the safe space. You could do 1 step then freeze then the next step then freeze big thing is I ice block mine some don’t but some do ether way some people don’t have the time to do the all of this in 1 sitting so find what works for you just remember the freezer is the safe space and if you ice block it you never have to worry about freezer burn
Thanks for your vids, and Happy Veteran's Day! Have you had any issues with the motor overheating?
@@cam_cecil thank you 🫡 I never had issues with it. Just won’t work on geese. If you need to do geese I suggest to get the heavy duty flesher from McKenzie that’s what I use now. But nothing wrong with this set up starting out
What was total cook time?
I know this is a long shot because it's a 3 year old video, but i can't find a wire wheel and arbor anywhere. Are there other options?
They got them on the Matuska website and the attachment you will need is on Amazon I had a buy a few different ones and got one to fit . I’ve since moved up to the heavy duty flesher from McKenzie supply bec the one I made is perfect for ducks but won’t do anything for geese. Thanks for watching!
Did you build the mud motor or buy it looks great
@@huxmetalworks7371 I bought it it was homemade tho. It’s been sold and I’m on like the 3rd set up now 😂
After watching this I'm pretty sure I can do this!! One question... I'm thinking about just mounting some bird heads... how do you clean the head so that it's ready to mount?
@@pricefutrell5871 you are skinning the head and using the same method at fleshing and washing. Once you get hands on and start trying it will click. 🫡
Not worth the extra money to me. It’s the same thing
@@Jody-gb2ns I feel ya did you watch my most recent video with the goose/dove hunt? I got them side by side working I get where you are coming from esp if you can save a few dollars I’m all about saving money on this channel. I’m sure they will end up taking the older model off the shelf tho eventually
@@DuckalopeOutdoors the pulsator. Is the video I’m talking about
@@DuckalopeOutdoors I have 6 of them in my s spread and don’t see where they work any better then the old ones. The on off switch. Is the best thing one the new ones but I don’t see 50 dollars for just the switch
@Jody-gb2ns yeah I was sayin go take a look at the newest video posted I have them in action next to each other
@Jody-gb2ns the motor is def stronger I feel not by much but 🤷♂️ I more times than not end up grabbing the tube when packing up so that helps with the metal bar addition for security. Like you said is it worth $50 ehhh prob not but I say prob by next season the price will be down to where the older version is priced now. Be my guess
your video SEO score should be 100 but your video SEO score is [ 0 ] so your video is not getting views,
@@Mubarokhusain-ky7ym algorithm for hunting videos are always gonna be crap. The “big wigs” have taken all the ppl who like to watch these kind of videos so they don’t branch out to find others. I’m not worried about it. I do this to document my hunts for myself and share with ones who do watch.

You need to hit it harder on your quack. It needs to be a bark. The way you're blowing it, it still sounds like a J frame. Try using the front of your tongue and you wont waste as much air with your cutdown.
@@garrettcobb1677 oh yeah last season I learned that real quick lol appreciate ya watchin hopefully this seasons videos you will see a difference
@DuckalopeOutdoors it got alot easier on ya didn't it. Lol
@@garrettcobb1677 very true!
Did you ever show the calendar?
No bec someone ripped it down after the opener.. ppl are not so nice in that area. Stuff that would help others is frowned upon apparently.
Very fun watching! Great footage with the shot cam! Thank you for sharing my friend!
@@MarkJLarsonOutdoors thank you for watching! Hope all is well!

Why shoot hens? The fucking you tube duck "hunter" millennials suck. Those Ducks have more a right to life
I don't think it will affect it. Regardless of what time the Government says it is, God sends the sun up according to His will, whether the clock says it's 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.
True and as we saw it didn’t effect anything. Let’s just pay for a colder season this coming year to push them. So many were just hung up north with no reason to move when the water was still open
If I am taking out the governer and putting in a rod and flywheel can I do this and leave the oil sensor instead of drilling a hole and filling it
I have no clue to be honest. I don’t own this motor anymore
@@DuckalopeOutdoors alright thanks man
Try puting caulk in your ducks it makes them look better good luck man.
@@IsaiahFenison I do in some. You can check out my IG & FB (Duckalope Outdoors) and see my most recent work. I’ve mounted many birds since this atrocity 😂
If a guy was to move that string over about 2 or 3 inches it would line the tail up then add another spot on that string so the prop sets in the water where it needs to so a guy can set it at idle and just put around keep in mind i would only recommend if a guys is just going straight. Just a idea if a fella wants to try it.
That motor and set up is long gone! Lol I’m on my third boat and third motor now just trying out different stuff. Good tips tho!
That’s not a “delete” that’s a “bypass”. Deleting would be opening the case and removing the switch all together then plugging the hole.
Ether way it works
@@DuckalopeOutdoors no disagreement there except that if you install a billet rod, you need to remove or delete the level sw and your video doesn’t address “deleting” the sw and plugging the hole. So, again, this is not a delete video that I was looking for.
@garymckay6028 just cut the wires and be done with it. Opening up the case and deep diving into the engine for this sensor is and would be a waste of time. It’s a cheap engine and by the time you put all the mods on it to make it have more HP you were better off just buying the next step up. My channel when it comes to how to’s I have made it known you can do things many different ways but I’ll show the cheapest, fastest, easiest way that will still get the job done. Besides cutting these wires the only other thing I would do is re locate the fuel tank and make it hold more. Besides that if anything else is needed or wanted just move up to a higher cc engine.
@@DuckalopeOutdoors forget it. You’ve obviously missed the point. I’m not knocking your video. The video is good for showing how to “bypass”, not “remove”, as you have it titled. That’s the point I’m making to anyone looking to REMOVE/ DELETE the sensor, not bypass it. Your title is misleading.
Why open the case and remove the sensor to plug a hole that is already plugged
I have 2,400-hours on my Delta 12-10 kayak and I'm very careful, i.e., I use wheels vs. dragging my kayak thru the parking lot. Both the bow and stern developed cracks/leaks recently. I fixed them with JB Weld. If I knew his was going to happen I would have bought a toothpaste sized tubes of JB Weld at Walmart and filled the low spots on the bow and stern when it was brand new. Once I saw the gray JB Weld color I would have known I was thru the kayak material. I'd rather spend $20 for JB Weld vs. hours of labor.
I feel ya on that
Hey! When will you post some more taxidermy videos? Yours a very helpful!
Very soon! I’m caught up now so I can start filming and work at the same time might be “live” and I’ll leave them up once I’m finished. I feel like it will be easier and ppl could follow along real time. I’ll start it next week but it will be during the week and prob around lunch time.
@@DuckalopeOutdoors Sounds good excited to see them!
Nice video! New Sub here :)
Thank you! I got a more in depth one about to drop soon it’s a comp piece I’m doing
@@DuckalopeOutdoors awesome, looking forward to it!
Do you have a list of supplies i would need to try doing this?
Hit me up on IG or FB “same handle” I’ll make a must have list for ya
How did you flesh the skin?
They make bird fleshers that you can ether buy or make. I have a video on that too.
Excited to see more taxidermy videos!
Clarksville TN?
You are correct 🤙🏻
How do you get the belly feathers to fluff and not look bad?
Proper fleshing, then ensuring you have washed it enough with dawn and then also enough rinsing to ensure no soap is left over, lastly when drying make sure you hit it with that shop vac until the down is all puffed up and completely dry. Never rush any steps
@@DuckalopeOutdoors Ok! Thank you very much I’m excited to see more of your taxidermy videos!
Gettin cranked up north of you! Camping, shed hunting, SCOUTING!! Gotta send off for doe tags mid summer so we get excited for hunting season early here!
Good luck! Hopefully you can get on em!
What is the rope for? I see cardboard on birds but never saw the rope trick
Using that string can help hold feathers in place instead of using tape .
Looks good bud. You did a good job. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Hi, I have a somewhat dumb question, I want to adapt/install an oil pressure gauge to a 272cc engine and I was wondering if these types of engines are making any oil pressure in order for me to add a gauge.
I’ve only ever owned the 212 and Ive moved on to my third different engine now. Hopefully you find your answer! Sorry couldn’t help
@@DuckalopeOutdoors Well it doesn't matter the displacement, I just want to know if these engines no matter if is a 212, 224, etc, if they create any oil pressure at all that's what I need to find out because I did a few searches on google but nobody talked about this topic.
@alexandrumarius5042 to my knowledge they don’t. It’s no different than a lawn mower engine
Pressure gage does no good. These don’t have an oil pump to make pressure. Small engines sling oil, not pump oil. Crank case pressure is all you’d get.
Great mount but your eyes are a little too big for a woody maybe some 8mm eyes would be better. And set them a little further back the rest looks great though
These are by using the flex eyes with a head that was pre cut for them. I can see what you are saying for sure I’ve started making my own eye rings now!
@@DuckalopeOutdoorswhat really helped me is the series by the taxidermy twins they do a whole standing mount series on a wood duck and they do great work! It’s worth watching for a beginner to a pro
Thank you for your service!
Thank you!
Iam also wanting to use a key ignition on my 212, hoping you might do a video wiring opposed to toggle switch..thx
I have sold this one and moved on to a Johnson 9.9 now appreciate you watching though!
Does this spin clockwise or counter clockwise?
This one spins counter clockwise I’m left handed so it made it easier on me vs my Dakota heavy duty one is clockwise
Do not open every hour
I’ve never had an issue , been smoking this way since I’ve uploaded the video! I’ve tried a few times of not opening the lid and it didn’t make a difference on my end.
Hi great video. What are the dimensions of the top and bottom pieces of wood on the stand?
Idk I just cut to fit
How’s the motor holding up? Curious as to how many birds you’ve done and whether you’d change anything. I’ve heard of fan motors not lasting. Any issues with high temp shutdowns?
It’s holding up. I’ve done around 300 birds with it now since I’ve built it. I would try to figure out a way to bring the wheel further away from the motor to allow more room for working with larger birds like geese. Also the screws inside the container that holds it to the board. Cleaning up around the screws to keep fat from running down to them and possibly getting thru could raise issues. I clean it after every bird tho. It’s been lasting and I like that the wheel will stop even by grabbing it with your hand so that way you won’t get the spin of death on a bird if one happens to get caught up. I haven’t had an issue with it over heating.
@@DuckalopeOutdoors that’s awesome to hear! I’ve been using a drill that works fine, but It’s pretty loud and janky looking lol. I’m gonna build your model, thanks for the video!
@andrewownby5915 good luck! Let me know how it works out!
Awesome work!!
Thank you!
Wow what a pretty bird! Great great job! One of the prettiest ducks in my opinion! GOD Bless you !!!!!
Thanks! I love my woodies!
After using those flex eyes on my first woody I am never using them again, idk what exactly it is but I hate how they end up looking no matter how good the feathers are. Great mount dude
True, you can rotate that eye and get them better I don’t like them just because the eye lid you have to ether cut out or continue to mess with the lid to get it to curl over to hide the yellow.. I’ve been working on making my own eye lids but I wanna be perfect with it before I start doing it on customer birds. Appreciate it!
😮❤
Yeah buddy
Ew wtf
??
Grow some balls dude
Does it not smell like gasoline?….
The camp fuel and gasoline are completely different! Make sure to only use the camp fuel from Walmart or if you can find it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It obviously will have a “fuel” smell when letting it soak and when you start drying the bird but after, no you will not smell it. I’ve “gassed” every bird I’ve mounted it cuts the dry time down tremendously! If you wanna hop over to my IG and look at my work. Still the same handle “Duckalope Outdoors”
