I was one of twenty-four hundred people that showed up at August 10's The Animation Guild rally. That many people shows proof that we human artists still want to be paid big time by doing concepts, 3D models, storyboards, and animation.
You may “want to be”….but in 10 years…WILL you be…able to?
@BrianReplies it may be possible when more and more animation industries are unionized, and people find ways to regulate AI art.
@@BrianReplies I think yes, theres so much that goes into storyboards and animatics. I mean a lot. I mean put this into perspective for every movie ever filmed including live action they have to have storyboard artists to come up with different shots for scenes. Sure AI could possibly speed up some of that however, I actually think an artists will be faster in this side of things because with AI you dont have as much control to what camera shots you get, along with poses etc. Theres a bunch of factors, its way faster to draw stick figure like characters than it is to type a prompt. Now when it comes to refining storyboards I think AI can be very useful. As it can make the boards more polished depending on the training data of course.
@@strickerarts Great point! There’s so much more to storyboarding than just drawing.
@@strickerarts For sure! AI can definitely help polish work, but the creative decisions are still the job of human artists.
I knew, from the moment I saw the thumbnail, this was about the rise of artist expression in response to a handful of generative AI controversies. And now that I saw the whole video, I agree with all of these tips. The human side of art is what makes it so special. Art connects us, it makes us feel something, it inspires us to do what we love to do.
Being an artist, and a professional graphic designer, generative AI can be challenged by someone who knows what they are doing. I'm against the use of gen-AI because it is outright lazy and wrong, morally speaking. I get that big companies want to make work more efficient, but that doesn't excuse them from just making things on the cheap.
Great video, mew. I'm glad I saw this all the way through.
Well said! Art is about expression and connection, which AI just can't replicate
@@isabella_rodriguez51597 I agree 👌
For me the rise of AI was a wake up call for me to invest more in my traditional artist background. Instead of just always deferring to doing everything on my iPad. I wanted to make art I knew AI couldn’t steal because they were physical 1 of 1 products you could wear. So my message to artist is to not rely so heavily on digital design for your business! Stay creative my friends ✌🏾
Yeah same!
Same - dumped iPad and procreate and went back to fully hand drawn and coloured. Only use iPad for layout and lettering now. I think there’s gonna be an uptick in trad arts as they’re way more easily recognizable as fully human.
ok you kinda jumpscared me with the presentation of this lol.... glad to see you are not another artist that supports ai, but rather can appreciate how ai "art" can actually uplift real human art . i have been let down by a couple artists recently that have been promoting different ai tools. really glad i watched the full video, i definitely jumped to conclusions 😅
100 years from now…all the artists of today clutching their pearls over AI and artists using it…Will all be dead. And pretty much all the artists from then on to forever…will use it as freely as we use the calculator on your phone.
So 100 years of “concern”…and millions of years into the future where nobody is concerned at all.
@@BrianReplies in 100 years Ai will replace all human labor and you seem delighted about it. Incredibly stupid as the elite that own the Ai want nothing more than to eliminate all of us "useless eaters"
@@BrianReplies wow, you sound like such a positive person. go wallow in your pessimism somewhere else man.
@@BrianReplies you know, it's really easy to get stuck in this mentality of "nothing matters" and lack of hope when battling depression. i've have my fair share of experiences and it sounds like maybe you should talk to someone. hope you can find joy in your life someday
The quote about "being an artist isn't performing a miracle" really hit home. It's so freeing to just focus on sharing what I love to do.
I appreciate how you highlight the positive aspects of AI in art, especially when so many artists are jumping on the AI bandwagon. Glad I watched the whole video!
simpler term for it is "be a content creator"
Yeah that is the only thing I don't like about this perspective. There is a reason that as an artist, I express myself through my art. Having to be known by people, potentially becoming famous (lol as if but still)? It's not worth it to me. This take is valid but it really closes off opportunities for some people.
@@Queerlien I get what you mean, but this is just what work in this era. Being a hermit artist that success with only your works is incredibly rare and hard
Exactly, Artists who make their art more about themselves than their art is the one thing I didn't like about the art world. and according to her AI is going to make that more common and that's a good thing... I disagree. Art and artists were better when the artist let the art do the talking.
YES!!!! I have been trying to convince visual artists to use the strategies of indie musicians since 2013, Now that we have RUclips and AI it is ABUNDANTLY clear that we are here, this is our time to grow and share our stories.
But Drawing is not suited for live performance. No one is going to pay to watch someone draw live.
With the rise of AI, I felt inspired to get back to my roots as a traditional artist. I started making unique, physical pieces that machines can't duplicate. I encourage other artists to try traditional methods and keep creativity alive!
It’s awesome how AI inspired you to get back to traditional art. There’s something special about creating unique pieces that only you can make. You’re right-encouraging other artists to explore traditional methods is a great idea! Keep it up!
Definitely! Let's keep the human touch alive in the world of art
Great advice on balancing AI's influence with showcasing the artist's personal story. Super helpful!
AI and professional artists are a perfect match. Thanks for sharing this!
The impact of AI on creative fields inspired me to get back into crafting. I’m embracing the hands-on approach and finding inspiration in every project!
I don't see any way this can be positive. Having to show your face as a creator just means you're more precarized and you have to do everything no one else was willing to do in order to be able to get the bare minimum, really. Not to mention cases of legit artists who are scamming clients with AI, people being falsely accused of using it therefore killing their passion for art, and people who have been fired without any perspective of being hired by the market ever again (children book illustrators, food illustrators, etc). It's easy to say it has a positive side, especially for an artist who made it and could easily kick the ladder for anyone. Don't get me wrong, I love your channel and content! But this type of discourse really upsets me.
She’s an animator, any artist is at risk of losing their job, doesn’t matter if you consider that she “made it” her career depends on her making art, so honestly I don’t think it’s that easy for her to stay positive
@@lima913 BECAUSE she lost her job, she should be having more empathy with the people who lost their job and didn't have the chance to rise up again, because what she did was a privilege. One piece of the chess board moved badly, and she wouldnt be able to be in a creative career ever again. I'm talking from a standpoint of someone who lives in a place where lot of people will never be able to even consider their dream job.
It was lovely meeting you at the Tsun Scoops collab event in Garden Grove CA and I hope you have a wonderful time with the Japan trip!
It's been really stressful lately with how AI has affected the job market, and ended up causing me to study another field as a "backup plan" because of how shitty the current situation with the animation industry is. I really hope things will get better for artists soon and that AI will at least end up like the whole crypto fad- like, yeah, it'll still be around, but at least it's not THE industry standard or the new hot thing that everyone and their mother needs to jump on.
AI has really come a long way and it's present everywhere but human creativity is still unbeatable when it come to art.
Such a positive take on AI in art! Thanks for reminding us there's still space for human creativity.
Love how you highlighted the human aspect of art in a world with AI.
The shift towards showcasing the artist's personality is fascinating. It adds so much value to the art.
Your tips on how artists can stay relevant in an AI world are super encouraging!
Witnessing AI’s impact on creativity has inspired me to get back to my roots in analog photography. I've been developing my own film and embracing the unpredictability of each shot. I encourage fellow artists to rediscover traditional practices and maintain their creative spirit!"
This gives me hope! AI can't replace the personal touch and life experiences we bring to our art.
Your videos have been so good reminders for me to not lose hope and for my own art RUclips journey.
It's exciting to see how AI is shaking up the art world some artists may worry, but many are finding fresh inspiration and new tools to work with!
Thank u for this queen❤❤
This video gave me so much hope! AI might be here, but we still have control over our art.
ngl i was nervous when i saw the thumbnail but after watching this some and hearing you explain i felt at ease lol
your office space looks perfect by the way! 😍
That also capture my attention hihi
Worth watching, Kudos!
Hello! I'm from Venezuela, thank you very much for your videos, they inspire me a lot and have always given me a ray of hope in the industry. I hope one day to be able to participate in your group trips, thank you again for sharing your experiences, greetings!
This is really educational, it showed the pros and cons of AI
I like your drawing style... and your hair too! 😍😍
The Penji logo design is fantastic! Love it!
Even with all the ethical concerns and doubts surrounding AI, it's clear that its potential benefits are too great to ignore. I just hope we can figure out how to tackle its misuses soon.
I don't think that ai Is a good idea I mean sure it has it's issues but even I have used it (sometimes) but it ruins lives and artist's too
That’s like saying we shouldn’t have installed push-button panels in elevators because they “destroy the lives” of all the elevator ushers who used to stand in elevator and personally guide people to their desired floor.
it *isnt* a good idea!! but i thought this video was about how ai kind of makes human artists band together and realize why they make art in the first place? :o which THAT byproduct is a good thing!
AI definitely has its downsides, but I think it's also pushing artists to innovate and find new ways to express themselves. It’s all about adapting to the changes, even though it’s tough sometimes.
@@Vibragarlic Totally! It’s something only we as humans can fully express.
@@aisha_johnson2196 And how are you supposed to adapt to something that is better, faster and cheaper than you are?
You bring up a great point about AI. I think it can assist with certain processes, but real innovation and emotion come from human artists.
You artwork is superb!
I love your perspective on how artists can continue thriving even with AI on the rise!
Never thought I'd live to see a day when art needs a tag "made by human." That's how much AI has changed industries.
Great video, Michelle. I'm a traditional artist who has recently started integrating AI into my workflow. I'd like to share an unpopular opinion: AI art is still, at its core, human-generated. In your video, you often treat AI and human-created art as distinct, and that reflects how most artists and media see it.
Traditional artists may use a paintbrush or a Wacom tablet, while AI artists use keyboards and adjust algorithms. This difference in tools often leads people to dismiss AI-generated work as not “true” art.
But I believe art is defined by more than the medium. For example, no one would say that a musician playing the piano isn’t creating music simply because they aren’t using their voice. Similarly, many musicians use software to generate rhythms, beats, and melodies. Does this make them any less of a musician?
We accept photography and cinematography as art, yet we don't give the same recognition to AI-generated works. We don't say the camera "creates" the photograph or the film. A human sets the ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and composition to produce the final result. The same is true for AI art. The artist uses AI tools, but it's still their creative input and choices that shape the outcome.
I appreciate you and I like your thinking about the matter.
Thank you for this fresh perspective❤
What a cool journey! 😊
I love the logo 🤩
AI in art feels like a double-edged sword: it can be daunting but also opens up amazing creative possibilities for those willing to embrace it.
I disagree about RUclips recommendations. If I like art of somebody why I should watch what he/she’s eating? It’s totally okay to use RUclips as another showcase platform. Just make cool wallart as Timelapse from multiple angles with nice soundtrack. Pictures before and after, sketches. Sometimes I find myself watching 40 50 minutes videos where dude making something from metal or wood. Why do I need to hear his thoughts on politics if I like watching him work? You can cook, you can crochet, you can make sculptures without saying anything. The art creating process itself is amazing.
Of course if all you do is constantly flipping canvas on photoshop kitbashing little thumbnail for hours, that’s not that exciting and hard to follow. But you still can show progress from sketches to the final result.
So basically yeah, if you do not want to became Vloger, or do community things, or teaching, stuff outside of creating art, just do progress videos.
AI trying to replicate my messy studio and creative process. Good luck with that!
AI is really changing but human touch is still something.
I really think that there are gonna be fewer artists in the future. The reason being, is that AI is gonna improve and people will not be able to tell if it was made with AI or not and the standards of art will be levels above what it was before. Weaker artists will quit a lot more compared to now and people will probably wonder if it's even worth learning art when a machine can do it 1000x faster and better (at the beginning). I know some good artists who didn't notice that the drafts of an "ARTIST" were made with AI...
Tho the problem for AI art is that they arent allowed to make deviant content, be unrestricted to make any art that arent in the guidelines restriction, human art cant be censored or restricted, AI art however and be blocked from doing such tasks, thus adding a wall for such creativity.
@@viviangarcia5696 When you talk about deviant content I don't know to what degree are you talking about "DEVIANT". I have one folder of the best AI art drawings I have seen and let me tell ya that a lot of them are nsfw or bordering on the line of nsfw (bikini, lingerie, etc.). So sadly, I don't think that AI has that type of restriction you're telling me homie :(
While true in someway ai can't think like a person and can't innovative and create meaning in art, so when it comes to good artists ai can never be better than really good artists who have meaning and storytelling in their pieces.
@@viviangarcia5696 So the only way in the future for artists is making filth?
this is an interesting perspective on this! thanks! makes me happy to be myself on social media :-)
I'm ready to embrace my human flaws and imperfections as an artist 😂
AI is big help for me too! 😊
Did AI scare you at first? how did you embrace/accept it?
I think it is a scary thought when we say that AI is changing things, better if we say that AI is improving things
Have you seen a story written by AI? It's shit most of the time.
Stories are based on the human experience, and AI cannot replace the human experience because AI doesn't have it.
So, that means picture book author-illustrators and graphic novelist author-illustrators are relatively safe from AI.
AI can create a different level of art but human art is still better.
Do a Q&A
YEP
I have dabbled with AI off n on for recent years now. Mostly whenever I get stuck with brain fog moments. So far the two times I have though. It had helped me get out of art block and start creating for awhile which I am glad of them existing. It's a good tool for inspiration to help one out of getting out of art block surprisingly well. I am glad you posted this talking about the positive of AI usage Mew.
The art industry is evolving, and AI is a big part of that change. It's fascinating to see how artists are navigating these new tools to enhance their creativity.
AI is really helpful when you enter your own art into it. color theory, helpful anatomy fixes, etc. it helps artists way more than non-artists, if you know how to use it 🤓
not really, Ai do mistakes too if it goes about Anatomy or where to put light and so on. ( I dunno if you mean it in a sarcasm way-)
@@karolatoska9200 Yes really. Doesn’t matter if it does occasionally, and chances are it will be in a different spot so won’t matter. It still drastically help you for a tricky spot. You obviously ain’t using it right or the right site lmao
@@karolatoska9200- we are quickly reaching the point where those issues…no longer are issues.
MidJourney is almost perfect. Right now. Everyone is still making jokes about “hands”….but 75% of the time the hands are perfect. In a year they will be perfect 95% of the time.
But AI haters won’t keep up. They will still be making jokes that were relevant in later 2022 or early 2023 all the way in 2025 when the tech is nearly flawless and those jokes won’t make sense anymore. People that make such jokes then will look foolish. The joke will be on them for not realizing that the tech was perfected and they were operating on old information.
I didn't make a joke about them. Yes, they are good, but as an artist, I just like art from actual people because they draw with thought, putting things into the backgrounds with intention the same way goes with details. What I've always seen in AI pictures is that things are blended together, like hair blending into clothes, or something similar. The same thing is that AI has problems with details from far away. Yeah, it looks good, but if you zoom in, it doesn't look good. And you shouldn't forget that AI takes all pictures from the internet and from artists without crediting them or getting permission.
@@karolatoska9200 You must be being sarcastic, unless you just can’t use it correctly lol. I said for minor anatomy tweaks and I’ve never had an AI do bad light work. Chances are if an AI makes an anatomy mistake it will be in a different spot
I think people in the art industry aren’t seeing return and that they feel entitled, because ive never seen anything online other than salad fingers or Charlie the unicorn.
I believe that people feel so entitled that they truly believe that they should make a living out of people seeing them draw rather than a person being creative.
Ai is fantastic and gets more creative by the day. You really have to so far up ur own ass to not recognize that. Weather it’s, 3d, 2d, writing, printing, etc. you can use it however you see fit. It’s hilarious how many artists actually hate expression if it doesn’t align with what they approve of. I guess artist arnt much better than conservatives, huh, liberal arts, conservative minds, what a shame….
AI is not integral to the human spirit, yea we know all the technical shit it can do but that’s not the point of why it’s scary
AI art is a third world skill, as you can get workers from India and similar countries to do countless image revisions and retouching for virtually nothing. My nine year old daughter has learnt how to use Midjourney at primary school; so you’re unlikely to get paid or laid when you tell someone you’re an AI artist.
AI should certainly help you make the difference between weather and whether, and aren't and arnt.
Before giving lessons on what art should be, maybe learn how to use proper grammar and actually communicate before giving out "big life lessons".
And this has nothing to do with being conservative (I'm myself a migrant), it just has to do with common basic english level.
Wow, thanks for the code! I'm still not sure if I'll try Penji for my business.
