    Thanks for sharing I’m new to 3D Printing and don’t know much about computers so it’s nice to hear from someone who knows what is going on and explains it in a calm, clear manner. Thanks

      You’re welcome, you’re comments helped me a lot as someone new to 3D Printing and knows absolutely nothing about it when I started about 3 months ago. So this is all very new to me and I’m also not very compulsive I’m older and till a month ago I only had my iPhone and iPad. But was very intrigued by 3D Printing as I watch a lot of woodworking videos on RUclips as I’m getting into woodworking again. So all this has been very confusing so to finally hear someone explain things in a sensible way was great. Thanks again

      Except he DOESNT know what's going on... Just because he's calm about it doesn't mean he's right...matter of fact, he's completely wrong...they've already announced that this update will break Panda touch... They've already shut out Orca Slicer from direct access...

    I get your POV re DNS attacks to lock up their servers, and extract data, but the problem is Bambu has poor cloud based security, yet forced you into using it to boost the UX. They were machines UK designed that did closed source mods to open source elements, and I owned, used and developed add ons, that predate 3D printing for all over 10 years ago, but they didn't have a cloud based connection or app. The printer should be able to print directly, and if you want to use their servers you have to play by their rules, You can get live camera feeds, app notifications from Home Assistant using your LAN connection and home network, but Bambu have deliberately crippled this from day one. By all accounts they haven't worked with Orca slicer devs, or BTT, just told them they products won't work in the future, and as you say the PR releases are very poor.

    I may be the only one happy to see a distinct app to manage printers instead of having it integrated to the slicer. Now, I want them to include a print spooler like paper printer, and just have to click something like "print next in queue" after removing the previous print from the bed. Their printer are pretty still up to date but their software is due for a major update. It is ok when you have 1 printer, but adding more is pita

    I think my biggest issue right now, personally, is that Orcaslicer isn't going to work, at least for the time being. The maintainers have already confirmed they will not "integrate" with the Bambu Connect application because it alters the typical workflow substantially.
    There are plenty of ways to authenticate APIs without having an entirely separate application (which was cracked within like a day).
    I do agree that we shouldn't be making assumptions about what Bambu is going to do in the future, though I also think it's good for the community to express what they don't want to see happen.

    • @geist.3D
      @geist.3D  10 дней назад

      I totally agree. I didn't know that about Orca! I'm sure it will integrate at some point, but it will worsen the workflow. There definitely should be an API bridge, not a separate application! and the community communicating their feelings is super important

      @@geist.3DSince Orca is open, I cannot see a smart mind just take the code and integrate the bambu connect button..

    • @johntetreault
      @johntetreault 2 дня назад

      @@patricklebel1141because Bambu Connect is a completely separate application... You won't even be able to update the colors in your AMS within Orca Slicer before you slice your print.

    There is a difference between being closed-source and altering the terms of sale after the fact, then gaslighting your users with lies. Since you've been in tech space, you must be aware of standardized security implementations that are used by massive companies, instead of implementing security-through-obscurity with their "bambu connect".
    As for locking you into BBL-only spools, read up on what HP has done with their inkjet printers - first a firmware upgrade "for safety and security", then locking you into HP-only cartridges, then introducing a subscription model. Bambu just took step 1.
    6:40 no login system that I know of requires any proxy add-on to be able to use.

    I’m new to 3D printing and I was considering either a Prusa C1 or a Bambu X1C or the new H2D. I’m witnessing both camps’ POVs and here are my thoughts. Yes, this is a bit overblown. Yes, there are two main philosophies on how to run a company. Will the fears materialize? Nobody can truly tell until it happens. This could be a big nothing-burger and we all go on with our lives. What IS undisputed fact however, is the unethical behavior of Bambu. There is a right way to go about creating a walled garden and then there is the way that BL chose. This speaks volumes for the management and the culture. For this reason, I will be buying a Prusa C1 in the future.

    • @geist.3D
      @geist.3D  11 дней назад

      totally hear you, companies like Prusa are completely the opposite, they are so great for the community and extraordinarily ethical, I'm for sure going to get a Prusa at some point. Just think a few creators just talked as if it had happened already; but bambu will definitely remain a closed ecosystem

  • @MirkoVukusic
    @MirkoVukusic 10 дней назад +2

    I find it that very few people really get the main issue about BL here. Most people have nothing against walled gardens, propriatory software, etc. Blocking 3rd party hardware/software is completely ok. Blocking 3rd party filament is completely ok. What is not ok, is to do it to retroactively, to existing users, after they bough it. Nobody would flame if this business model is/was advertised. Then second thing, everybody calls anything that didnt happen with BL as "specuilation" and "overblowing". Yes, a lot of it is, but 1) it did happen many many times in different industries, including 3dprinting, 2) it already has happened with BL right now, not all features available when people bought the printer are available anymore. But people that dont care about it were not affected, and I understand it. But I don't understand why they think this is only about speculation about future? Bottom line, all you have is trust. Software/hardware now supports both scenarios, decission lays on BL. Its on you if you trust them or not. But machines, today, can do all the bad stuff if BL want it (compared to most other machines on the market that simply can't technically do it or can be easily rooted). Now if you read blogs and PRs of BL and dig a bit deeper in technical stuff... I really don't see a reason to trust them.

    • @geist.3D
      @geist.3D  10 дней назад +1

      yeah it was a HUGE misstep to add the new conditions to the terms, and even HINTING that it will retroactively remove things is a problem, add blocks on new stuff, is not smart, but okay from a business perspective, but 'downgrading' current machines is problematic for sure

    • @johntetreault

      @@geist.3Dthey can have a closed system while still providing a secure open API.... But they've already made clear they will not do so...if ANYONE should have been given API access, it was Orca Slicer...they're not competition, but they are better software....no reason to have refused them direct access

    Almost all of the biggest talking points I’ve seen are just put speculation, Bambu knows at this point that going purely proprietary with anything that costs money like materials is to shoot yourself. That’s why xyz printing went under

    Security is always good, but the community fears losing control of their own printers when they get limited to the cloud only to send the files. They also predict this is the first step to force people only to use their ecosystem. They fear that Bambu will stop your printer working if you don't use the new firmware and only use their cloud. People like me who have used and built printers for over 10 years wonder why we had to print with a cloud hosted somewhere in China anyway. Bambi printers don't offer a direct interface, as I know. Recently, you can only send things with a "connecting" software if you don't want to use their cloud and want to use orca slicer instead.
    At least, we have to sit and wait if all the predictions come true and bambu is that dumb as the most RUclipsrs predict.

    • @geist.3D
      @geist.3D  13 дней назад

      Yeah, I totally understand, and you're totally right! I think especially since companies have done this before and it's gotten worse, and Bambu already is pretty 'closed' it wouldn't be really crazy if it got worse. I just think right now there are a lot of content creators saying that these things and these more extreme steps are GUARANTEED to happen. But yeah we need to tell them what we want as a community and call them out when they are doing bad practices. Here's hoping it's just a true security issue and they still allow the community to accessorise and tinker as they should be able to!

      i said it a million times I'll say it again. Bambu locked down their rfid on their filmentspools. there was zero reason to do it, it was a test and it worked that got no push back. they don't give a f*ck about the 3d community. they claim that their servers get attacked 300k times aday and thirparty componets are the reason for the attacks. It all hot steaming bs

      @@patricklebel1141that's like buying a new car with power everything, then 2 years later you take it into the dealer, and they tell you they're disabling your power windows, power door locks, and power seats to make your care more "secure"...you still have a window crank, a lock button, and a manual seat adjuster, and the car still drives, so quit complaining.
