What I'd like to know is why sending my prints in LAN Only mode is slower (much slower) than when I wasn't in LAN only mode. Supposedly I'm using the cloud when not in LAN only mode, so it should be MUCH slower. So there has to be some built in latency there to make LAN Only mode less desirable. Or is there something I'm not thinking clearly about?
And before anyone thinks I'm on the hate Bambu Labs train, I'm not. I'm loving this printer. In fact I think I've been printing nearly non-stop for a couple weeks now. I just don't personally see the need for me to use the Cloud for my printing. I don't necessarily think Bambu Labs have any nefarious reasons behind this whole brew-ha-ha... But since I don't NEED the cloud, I've decided why take the chance of getting a firmware update that changes the way my printer works in a way I do not like. Not saying they will, but LAN Only mode will ensure that if they want to, they can't.
Don't care what Bambu does or does not due at this point, tired of the drama and future unpredictability of the company. My next printer will be some other brand more open source with similar performance.
At the end of the day as long as your print projects succeed I am for it. Make the best decisions for your needs. Thank you for commenting and watching.
Thank you for the level headed explanation. I am tired of the click bait hair on fire reactions to the Bambu Lab announcements by other content creators. I just don’t have the time for people who stoke fear and misrepresent facts just to drive traffic on their site. I unsubscribed to their channels and subscribed to yours.
Same. I don’t have the time and definitely don’t have the mental energy to deconstruct emotional outrage reaction videos about my printers. This is my happy, logical, and “safe” space. 😏
A fairly good breakdown but some of the initial "hype" was warranted, The initial announcement did in fact say if users did not update their firmware, their printer would not be allowed to print. They quickly reversed course after the initial backlash and did remove all references to that statement. They then changed the recommendation of Lan only and introduced the "developer mode" so they are evolving with their response as the community provides feedback. Coming in over 2 weeks later with a response is fine but comments to trash talk videos that were published with the info available at the time and calling them all clickbait isn't exactly "fair". The responses in those videos have directly influenced the Bambu Lab response (even if to falsely "set the record straight" and deny they ever said we would be prevented from printing)
The printers do no auto update. If you watched my first video since info was sparse I recommended not updating. Once clarification was pushed out and lan only dev was an option it was still up to the user, but you have to roll your own security, There are users who ONLY print offline or lan only. Print nation has a print farm of bambu printers all offline or lan only. A ToS change means nothing if you are not using their service. If you use their service then it is under their rules, just like very cloud connected service out there. You have an option to not use their service mentioned several times in the video. I didnt want to make my video too long but bambu still allows users to roll back to firmware to install custom firmware. If this dystopia scenario was still out there why didnt they pull the option when they announced bambu connect? bambulab.com/en-us/third-party-firmware/plan Thank you for commenting and being open to rebuttal
@hamanjam What people fail to understand is that if BL servers were getting hit with fake hacker accounts and print jobs, they had to do something. BL definitely could have and should have phrased their initial announcement differently. Look at Microsoft, Apple, and Google making their software updates fairly mandatory. I think a consumer can delay the update for a few weeks, but eventually, it installs regardless of the will of the consumer. This is because if hackers can target a vulnerability that has a poor fix adoption rate, the bad press isn't towards the consumers who dragged their feet, but the company whose products or services were targeted. It is no different for Bambu Lab. They will get the black eye if their customer data is stolen or their cloud service takes a dump due to hacker traffic. Their wording was poor for sure, but in the end, they are protecting their customers and their reputation.
There were active attacks happening as of a week ago on flash forge. Anycubic had compromises last year. Pretending security doesn't need to be addressed makes the video 100% right. Be responsible for your own security. Good luck
We know it was about security. But the way they did it was wrong. It was dumb, insecure, easily cracked, and caused issues that simply did not need to be caused. It is how a team which has no clue what they are doing does security.
that was a beta version to test functionality. this is the company that puts RSA-2048 encryption on their *filament tags*. let's see the production version cracked.
@@chrisl4999 like the video said, if you don't like it don't use it and roll your superior version. Simple right? You would make a fortune running it for everyone. When can we expect your service to be available?
A well thought out and presented view on the situation. I do not have a cell phone and as few "smart" devices possible for many reasons. I have tried the MicroSD swap and it is very difficult on the X1C due to the card reader. I decided on LAN only and it works well. But still concerned about the printer having Internet access and am investigating how to change my router settings to remove access for the printer.
@@bumpin8833 I had a similar idea, but using a router that the Bambu connects to that would allow it access to the LAN, but not the internet. I have not figured out how to get access to my Google Fiber router, it seems to need a phone app to control it. I have some old routers that I can try.
One of two ways. Change the printers network configuration so that it doesn't have a gateway (0.0.0.0 or 192.168.255.254) or configure your router/modem/DHCP service to assign your printer a specific IP address but not a route out. From a networking perspective, if you don't want a machine on the internet, this is the simplest way if you still need to talk to this target machine remotely. The thing is, I don't know if the printer will accept that now-not-working route (gateway) if you're doing the change on the printer itself, and it'll tell you to retry because it can't call home.
Hello thanks for commenting and chatting with the other users. When I had my ender I used a SD card extender. It could live in the port and could hang outside the machine for easy access. There are micro versions as well. amzn.to/42Wt6HV There is an excellent write up on the LAN only mode and if it actually touches the net(wpolier it does not)which mirrors my experience with it. nikolak.com/bambulab-x1c-network/
Slightly missing the point here. The issue is with changing how you use something you paid for AFTER the sale. If this update was only for new devices, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. Sure, for now you dont have to download the update, but right in the TOS it is stated that Bambu can disable cloud based printing if updates are not installed. Cloud based printing is a service that was baked into the purchase. This is very much like BMW heated seats subscription debacle. Look up "you will own nothing".
And they will. Why wouldn’t they, they’ve already lied about it and tried to gaslight everyone. This isn’t about security. It’s about $$$ and control. There are other ways to implement security that actually work and don’t hamper functionality.
Yeah, this dude is clueless as to the actual issue. We understand how we can use the printer, and we understood it when we purchased it. But now they are changing the rules of the game during play. And they WILL force an update, effectively bricking the printer unless we allow them to force us into allowing them to do whatever they want with our devices, and ultimately anything on our network. Then of course, there's the issue that they tried to wipe the internet clean of what they said originally, then tried to tell us we weren't understanding what they said, while they posted an updated (but still crappy) TOS.
My first operation system was Windows NT4.0 Worked great, very stable. I didn't know what blue screen is. I've done quite a lot of network settings and it was so easy and open. Most of the settings I remember are not accessible anymore. I noticed recent closing down from Google, Microsoft, Synology,... Like they are all adding extra steps and more frequent resigning. So I guess something is going on. My guess AI tools for hacking are getting better. However if this is the case for Bambo, they failed big time. Maybe this is first step and is just a base to upgrade security, so lets see. But yes you are right. The more people use a device more people are trying to hack it. Edit: Came across info from Practical Printing Fridays, and apparently Bambo sells 3d printers without profit or sometimes with loss. Profits are from spare parts, AMS, filaments,... Individual users like me are profitable, since I always buy few plates, nozzles, etc. Meanwhile large users like print farms use 3rd party filaments, etc... This change was first step to cut down losses or extract more from large users. Lets see where we are in a year frim now.
My experience with Win NT was a Windows 2000 which was decent for the time. I wont argue the logistics of the update/firmware because a business can pivot to all kinds of profit models. My angle focuses on the effect and solutions for the average user and what they can do when given options. When the cloud service had phantom prints 2 years ago I released a quick guide on how a normal user could disconnect from the cloud, go lan only and still get some semblance of control outside the network. It didnt affect me personally but having a printer get damaged remotely was a interesting wake up call. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
I don't hate them for the firmware thing, I hate them for their absolute shit customer support and pathetic warranty That's set up to make it. So if you live in America there is no chance in hell you're going to be able to return it for a full replacement. This is because they're complete replacement warranties. Only good for 19 days but before you can ask for a replacement you have to try to repair it with a with a purchase part. The problem is those parts take 14 days to arrive. So unless your printer broke day one, you're kind of screwed worse. They have no parts warranty past 30 days. In my case I had the wonderful experience of buying a November printer, which apparently there's a few of them that were complete lemons on Reddit that were purchased the same time I bought mine. What I discovered was for the first 30 days. I didn't have an AMS light but it was really good. It worked perfectly. Then on day 31 the hot end websit sensors stopped working. Being told to go through the wiki to find the solution I did so and after carefully disassembling I found the problem. The wire that connected to the hot end tip had somehow severed itself. Okay fine. I'm assuming I caused this. I purchased a replacement part. It arrived. I've switched it out 4 days later that stopped working. I inspected it. Oh, the wire wasn't separated. At least the casing was it. The casing was still attached to the tip but the wire inside had somehow separated okay. This one's obviously a manufacturing default but I need to get this thing up and running cuz I have stuff I have to print so I bought a replacement through Amazon at the same time I contacted supper's customer support at Bambu and they told me that the hot end assembly is considered a consumable and that just because it broke in 4 days doesn't mean they'll be willing to replace it. I had to order yet another part. I then pointed out that the fact is I've now done this twice and each time the hot end assembly has broken. They then had me order even more parts that I then replaced. At that point I was very frustrated and I just asked for a switch out. It's been in my possession now for 2 months and they said absolutely not that anything past 19 days they don't have to replace it and parts which we're supposed to be free for the first 30 days doesn't include the hot end assembly because it's considered a consumable. So I'm on hot end assembly number 3. It started acting weird but it has action not broken yet instead since the AMS arrived. Yes I ordered an AMS separately from the unit I was so pleased with it for the first 20 days however, it took quite a while to arrive. In fact, it only arrived about 10 days ago and my bamboo printer has been limping along so I plugged in the AMS set it up accordingly to the instructions. And yeah every goddamn time it has to switch filament. It has an extrusion air and I tried reporting that and asking what's going on. They said it's a clogged nozzle. It's not. I have made sure of that. I've buttoned three nozzles now and all of them do this and one of them hasn't actually printed anything yet. So yeah it's bullshit and yes I've taken apart the entire front end like the assembly are taking out the PCB board. I followed every fucking service instruction they gave me. And yeah this thing is a fucking limit and they won't take it back and they fucked me and I'm out over well over $800. I am just royally pissed at bamboo and they're shitty customer service and they're garbage warranty do not buy from them. Stop promoting them. Why are you doing this? Are you a fan boy? I mean seriously. This is some serious bullshit I should have gone with creality. I've made a terrible mistake, trusting the internet saying bamboo was the greatest printer ever. For fuck's sake, it was for the first 30 days. But now I don't know what to say. They say oh it's just a rumor that when it breaks, it breaks and you're fucked. No it is not a rumor at least not for me and a bunch of other people because this thing has been. You know I'm not new to electronics. I'm not new to robotics. I've built the cobblebot successfully for fuck's sake and that's just a pile of scrap and Nike 3D print with that. So I'm not new to this. This thing just fucking is broken and I really get mad when I see people trying to defend bamboo at this point cuz they're not a good company, at least not that now that they're successful. They've pivoted somehow into becoming assholes and I don't even care about the firmware. I could use it through a USB or SD card if I have to. I did that with my ender 3 but yeah it's fine. I'm not that picky. I have a problem with the fact that they sold me a hunka junk and won't take it back and won't exchange it.
Anyone who calls any company perfect or cannot see flaws in them should take a small step back. I wish I could call myself a fan of any company but I am far from a cheerleader unless they earned it and even then they have to continue to earn it. I have been in the 3d printing community before bambu and will easily hop onto the next printer that fits my needs better. Companies are not our friends, family or compatriots. They provide a product or service for a fee. If they can do what we need, then great, if they cannot then move on to a better alternative. Thank you for your comment.
Thanks for trying to bring some sense to this debate, but I fear it's to no avail. There's a significant bunch of stuff that you're ignoring. First, BambuLab did not communicate this at all well. This may be because they don't have a skilled customer relations department; their cultural sensibilities may be tuned to a different outlook; they misjudged the mindset of a group of Western 'pioneers' brought up on self-assembled machines and FOSS software. Second, there's a lot of social media commentators who aim to increase their engagement to satisfy the RUclips algorithm/echo amplification in order to increase their income - you're more likely to get views by encouraging outrage than by saying 'nothing to see here'. Third, Bambu's actions have resulted in a lot of speculation about hidden agendas. Is this the result of the recent patent lawsuit, are they planning to charge for or restrict your ability to use your own stuff, are they trying to destroy BigTreeTech/OrcaSlicer etc., and despite their protestations to the contrary, hardly anyone is prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. There's a few more things (particularly related to commercial print farms), but this post is already too long. Having owned my P1S for only a few days before Bambu's announcement, I was concerned. I wrote to Bambu and said that, because I had lost trust in their company, I wanted to return my printer. Their response reiterated all the stuff they'd announced to the community, but they also offered me a full refund (less cariage charges), which I thought was pretty reasonable. In conclusion, I'm going to continue, warily, to use my printer (mostly LAN-only and firewalled from the internet) to see what happens when the new firmware makes it out of beta. It's just another First World problem, and there's too many people thriving off the FUD.
Yes, first world problem, but a problem significant enough to potentially affect the livelihood of individuals who have invested tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars into a printer farm, and now are being told that they have to change their business processes and activities and software they use in order to run the hardware they paid for and are using them to put food on the table, pay the rent and all that. Communication is one thing. Changing terms on how my hardware is to be used after sale is wrong. If I bought a car and it turned left and right when I bought it, but then the car manufacturer put in a software lock in via OTA updates that says my car no longer can turn right, what does that mean? If I'm a cab driver, that's a hell of a hit on my performance to get a customer to their destination.
If you saw my first video I was certainly confused. I hope I am not in the minority, but I do not update for the sake of updating. If it does not do what I need it to do, or breaks a needed feature, I dont take it. I hope folks see they have a choice, their investment is fine if they dont like the updates or dislike the cloud services. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@Mr76Pontiac Indeed. Always have alterative solutions in case of the unexpected. A simple analogy if Bambu cloud stopped working tomorrow what would that business do? If you are printing within network or offline there is no change. If they are relying on someone else's server or service and they lost access how would that affect the business? YT isnt my main source of income. If they decide I am not a good fit and cancel the channel I would have other avenues to pull from to survive. Thank you very much for comments.
If Bambu closed their doors before this update then there's options that don't rely on Bambu external services. Once this update goes out and the firmware sits on the printer to want to talk to a service that is down, that's a problem for EVERYONE. This happened with Drobo. They shut the doors. There are no more updates. I'm FREE to continue to use my Drobo as I see fit, even with their not providing updates. There is no tie-in to any cloud service that they have/had (They didn't) so I'm good with my machines. With the authorization system Bambu introduces then I'm SOL. (Disclaimer, I don't own, will now not own, and will not recommend Bambu specifically on business practices, their knee-jerking to fix a problem that isn't on my side of the network cable -- Creality also now fits in this with their to-be requirement for encrypted NFC tags on filament)
Finally! Someone talks about the Bambu Lap thing with actual knowlwdge on the subject. I can see from the comments it didn't matter much though. People have no capacity to understand anything past personal bias any longer. I work in the IT industry and i was really surprised by the hot takes on this subject. I read the Bambu statement when it was released and thought to myself, Wow! that took way longer than I expected but good on them finally taking steps to make security a real priority. Then I started watching the RUclips outrage and was just confused by that lack of basic understanding of the technical situation. RUclipsrs rarely research anything anymore. They just follow the first popular video that comes out and hope for some clicks.
Security updates can exist separately from functional updates. If security were actually the concern here, they would have a separate update stream for security updates. Like what Windows does. I can opt out of functional updates for Windows while still keeping my system secure with updates. The fact that you think any of what Bamboo is doing is actually about security shows a gross misunderstanding or incredible naivety on your part
@ Explain it to me then or point me to a video or article you believe explains your view. I am certainly willing to learn. I have seen zero evidence to jump to the worst possible conclusion. Bambu hasn’t done anything nefarious to my knowledge. Maybe you have seen something I haven’t. What they actually did do is standard cloud protection. What could they do? Many things but they haven’t done any of what companies like HP for instance have actually done.
@@maskettaman1488 Windows is a weird example depending on version. Most updates are security. @@NewZonaRides Every year it's a new controversy and every year it blows over because the most imaginative gets proven wrong time and time again. I have seen it since 2022. This update had nothing to do with security and everything to do with control over the platform. I don't know how much bambu has paid you to make this video, but it probably wasn't enough. This update had all the Telltale signs of creating a subscription service for this printer, the fact that bambu so aggressively controlled the narrative, that the printer is still security swiss cheese... Come on, don't sell out your channel.
Having a differing opinion does not mean one is paid to say it. If you are asking if I am being paid, have been paid then the answer is NO. All I have paid for all of my printers. If that ever changes I will be transparent. If Bambu adds a paid service then what can I rail against? It is their cloud service. If I don't like it then I wont buy it. Even companies like creality has paid models on their site, just like cults and a few other sites. There are other ways to print that does not rely on their cloud. I have shown this years ago after the major incident of printers starting on their own after the cloud glitched. IDK when you started watching my channel but I care about the users, not some company. I provide options and solutions if I can. If the security is a mess I will give simple solutions to use the products they paid for. I have stated this in the video.
Its not our property if the manufacturer can change the terms of the sale after the fact. Its not my property if the manufacturer can alter the way the printer works at any point. Its not my property if I lose functionality if I don't adhere to what the manufacturer deems is "best" for you.
Yet it still doesn't make it right. Companies, banks, doctors, creditors.... They do this shit constantly only because people let them get away with it. When those of us who call out decisions that are absolutely screwing users/customers over, you always get the complacent ones who defend these decisions (that also screw them over, just they don't care or realize it) or try to rationalize them because "other people do it too!". Just because it doesn't affect you personally (for now, whether you realize it or not), does not mean you have to bend over and take it. It also doesn't help one bit that you try and downplay the situation or discredit those who are against these decisions and/or changes.
@@PrintedTrucker It doesn't make it right. These companies get away with it because people let them. It affects every user even if they don't realize it. Inevitably, conformists will make the experience worse for everyone.

When I buy something from a vendor, the expectation is that I bought the product to use as I deem fit unless there was a contract put in front of me to indicate appropriate uses prior to my putting out the cash. That's not the case with Bambu or Creality at the moment with this proposed new firmware and activities "administrators" have to perform to use their product they own.
Give they keys of your house to the contractor that built it. Let them decide who and what can access your house. No one else can do work, or live in it, without their express permission. Clearly, they know best; they built the damn thing. For your safety and security, they will take control of your house. You still get to live in it, its your house after all. You just don't get to make important decisions about how you live in it and with who. If you want anyone but them to access your house, they need to go through the checkpoint built by the contractor to make sure nothing spooky or suspicious goes on that could harm you or your house. There have been millions of break-ins, murders, and robberies committed by unknown assailants. We simply cannot allow any more of this to happen. The safest way is to give the keys to the strangers who know your house inside and out; allow them to monitor everything that goes on, in, or outside of it. They promised they won't use the data they gather by monitoring you for harm, and they promised not to charge you every time you try to enter or leave the house (for the current houses that are already built). Yeah, they state in their terms of service they can absolutely stop you from living in your house, but they won't do that. They promised, after all. No, they will not remove that part from their terms of service. Of course, you always have a choice. If you don't want to let the contractor have this kind of control, you can still live in the house without them. However, they will have to shut down the plumbing (you can still walk to the well and carry back buckets of water to use at home, so no big deal), electricity (you can still use candles for light), and they will cover up all the windows with bricks and cement. The front door will be locked and you will have the sole key. They will not be responsible if you lose the key, or if anything in the house that they built fails. Anyone claiming that this is done in bad faith, of those claiming that they are changing the terms of the sale of the house after the fact, are lying. Some people have also dared to imply that the contractors are taking away some of the commodities and features of your house if you don't agree to these new terms. This is simply misinformation, and these people should be shamed and ignored. The windows and other doors to access it were intended to be part of the contractor's ecosystem, and by purchasing the house, you acknowledged that these things could be taken away at any time. By refusing to let the contractors do as they wish, you have no right to demand these things that were built-in along with your house. No, they will not allow other contractors to install more doors or windows, plumbing, and electricity on your house as they used proprietary build techniques and your house could fall apart or catch on fire if anyone else tries to restore it to how it was when you bought it.
The problem with analogies are you have to use an analogy it will never fit the circumstances. You bought a printer, it works offline, Lan only and if you use cloud you might have to follow rules of the service. Updates are not forced, you can hop off the Bambu update train at any time, roll back even use custom firmware, other hardware run your own cloud service as people have successfully tried. Your long random post makes zero sense because you have a choice to allow Bambu to handle hardware /software and cloud which they have done for years or you and stop here and roll your own solution
Hey I bought a Nintendo switch. Why do I have to use Nintendo servers to play online? Why can't I use a playstion controller and Xbox kinect? Why can't I upgrade the switch with an nvme, and ddr5 memory? Your comments are beyond ridiculous. Contractors and other random ish complicates a simple system. Ignore optional updates and run your own solution. If you think you know best, security, cloud then run your own.
If a car company put heated seats in their vehicles, I bought one of them and used their heated seats @No0o0o0o0o0 If Nintendo sold me a Switch that allowed me to play Xbox and PlayStation games, then locked me down to Nintendo games on that very same device, they screwed me over. But hey, if the game developers want to, they could just publish their games with Nintendo, that way they will be officially supported! Yay! If I could bypass their servers to connect to other third party hosted servers (and this was considered expected, normal functionality), then locked me down to their own on the same device for my "safety and security", then they screwed me over. If the device was able to be upgraded with a screen that expanded functionality, then Nintendo told me that these new screens would no longer work, because they expect me to update the firmware for my safety, and security, then they screwed me over. Maybe I couldn't solder in some RAM chips, or swap out the SSD, but I can use third-party controllers and do other modifications to it. Yes, Nintendo isn't forcing me to update my firmware. Nintendo simply told me I could no longer use the JoyCons in bluetooth mode, or use the dock until I update the firmware. Of course, Nintendo sneakily wrote something in their terms of service where they can choose to upgrade my Switch's firmware or prevent it for working because of..... safety reasons, I guess? I do not want to force Nintendo to provide services which I never asked for, but they sold me anyway. Yeah, I may not use those things they sold me, but I sure as hell will argue that they shouldn't just yank them away from other people that do. I expect Nintendo to not try and lock down my device. I expect Nintendo to not act like complete buttholes and alter the terms of the sale after the purchase is done.
@ I bought the printer, it works offline and online. I can use any slicer I want. I can send gcode to it from any slicer that supports the feature. I can monitor it remotely, and I can even import videos via LAN into my computer so I can post the timelapses online. Many of these are time-saving features that expand upon the functionality of the device that I bought and own. These features were advertised to me, and helped me decide to make the purchase for the device. At the time, there were no Ifs or Buts. Suddenly, if I want to use the printer online, I can no longer use whichever slicer I want to send gcode to it remotely. Unless the slicer uses a first-party app to "authenticate", adding unnecessary MITM bullshit that ironically adds yet another point of failure to the process. If I do not want to lose this functionality, then I have to use the printer exclusively in offline mode. When it was announced, this meant I could no longer remotely monitor my printer. It means I can no longer transfer files to and fro my printer via my network. It means I am now inconvenienced for daring to not wanting to go through a Chinese's company's servers that will inevitably be hacked and put all out printer's and data at risk. Of course, I can stay on previous firmware....and still not have full functionality I had before. I can still use my printer online with that firmware, but one day I won't be able to. One day, Bambu's servers will either be taken down, or be shut down. Perhaps because of the company ceasing to exist, or they decide to no longer support the printer and cut off all functionality. Yeah, they added Dev Mode, but only because of the backlash. There is no guarantee dev mode will be an option on future printers. Dev mode should have always been an option as its the more consumer friendly thing they can do for customers who do not want functionality to be locked down by first-party decisions. Thankfully, because of Dev mode, other users and customers will be able to (eventually) retain all their functionality by using third party software and services. Unfortunately, at the cost of this perhaps being the last time such an option is available for Bambu Labs owners. Hopefully Bambu realizes that freedom of choice is a very real and important thing that a lot of us customers take seriously, and they decide that DEV mode will become a standard in all future printers. However, their current communications hints that this will not happen. Thank goodness I can still downgrade and use custom firmware. But I'm not blind enough to see that they can't further lock down their current printer line-up because they weren't designed with (most of) that in mind. I definitely expect their future printers to be able to be locked down even further. The more control these people have over your own stuff, the less you'll be able to use it as you see fit. You're not renting these printers, or leasing them. You are buying them. They are yours from the moment you spend the cash and it arrives at your door. It is no longer Bambu Lab's property. They don't get to decide what you can and can't do with it. Yeah, their cloud service is not mine, I do not own the servers (Bambu probably doesn't either), but I never asked them to use the cloud. They don't get to tell you that if you don't do as they say, they'll take away some things you could do before that made using the printer a breeze. They don't get to decide how other software or hardware interacts with your printer if you allow it. Enshitification is a very real thing that is happening constantly. Every time a device connects to the cloud, you're at the manufacturer's mercy. You have to expect them to be gracious enough to let you use their device in the future after you paid for it. A cloud connected device effectively puts a time bomb on it. It WILL stop working eventually, even if the hardware itself is in working order.

@@kylequinn1963 not entirely. It's about removing features that were paid for in the purchase price. For most users, the update won't be an issue. But when you buy a product that can be crippled after purchase by the manufacturer, that is morally wrong. For some, LAN or sneakernet isn't a viable option. In my case, since my printer isn't even in the same building as my computer, the cloud print service was a selling feature. Using Orca slicer allows me to do a few things that the Bambu Slicer does not. Now, I *could* use developer mode and run it on a LAN, but that means running a cable or buying a wifi repeater in order to do so, or walking an SD card 200' from my house to my workshop in any type of weather to print my models. The flames I use are not something I want to breathe, so moving the computer to the workshop is not an option. This update turns a one click dream printing experience into a chore and greatly devalues the experience. I bought the printer, paid for the service, have been able to set it up to work conveniently with Bambu's blessing, and now that will go away if the update is forced. This also means that in order to keep my current arrangement, I have to forego any and all future updates since they are by nature iterative. I especially feel for those who invested tens of thousands of dollars in a Bambu print farm and have customized Orca to manage it. By crippling Orca, this makes their equipment essentially useless.

Exactly. The people who know how to secure their stuff will do what they have to do. Everyone else needs a helmet and guardrails so they dont melt their homes.
Bambu Labs is the New Apple. There are security updates coming out regularly. if you want to update you do. If not you dont. If you don’t, you leave yourself open to security risks. Its a choice. Microsoft comes out and says your hardware isnt good enough for the new OS and you will be vulnerable if you dont upgrade. Yes I hear the point that they are changing things and some add ons may not work either temporarily or ever. You can say the same thing about our government.
You're not wrong, but it's hard to build trust with a company that erased their original Terms of Service after changing them (deception), already had their private key hacked (incompetence) and spins their "truth" about subscription service...they only guaranteed "never" for "current models". They stated they will offer no updates past 2027 for the X1 Carbon and mine is only 2 months old. Even Microsoft supports hardware 5 years out.
Good on you, man. This was a great video and i just wanted to voice my support for you. It can't be easy swimming upstream in the Bambu River right now and I really respect you for not capitulating to the hysteria.
Hate to break it to you but windows 98 wasnt the early days of windows. Windows was a spotty 13 year old by the time you got to use 98. And im not sure what stretch of the imagination you used, but i cant find the way to justify bambu changing the t&c of sales *after* the purchase.
As usual Good Point Thanks!. I have NO connection to Bamboo (other than a customer) BUT aside from the attack issues over shared networks there is also a possible issue with Misdirected BLAME. for instance a 3d printer overheats and starts a fire that burns down an entire apartment complex. The news speaks "SO AND SO printer burned down an apartment complex putting 100 people out on the street" The news does not know or attempt to confirm if the cause of the fire was solely from SO AND SO. If in this cinerio the printer had been modified by some individual or 3rd party that resulted in the fire, SO AND SO still gets blamed and most or many people assume that SO AND SO is responsible. For this reason many manufactures that offer advanced technology restrict access to there products to mitigate this possibility (check Tesla, John Deere to name only a couple). Yes it creates an issue for the user and at some level it could be a mix of concern and additional revenue stream (yes revenue stream is the main driver of corporate advancement and profile). Todays tort system result in Billions and Billions of Legal cost, Right or Wrong this is the world we have created. Stay off line and stay relativity safe. Don't like the new firmware features on your Bambu printer then simply don't use the update. Apparently you felt it was a great product when you bought it.
bravo and totally agreed, that their is nothing wrong with what Bambu have done or will do. They have investigated an issue in the cloud service (aug 2024) and now are implementing the tools to mitigate the threat. As a consumer of their product i wouldn't expect anything else from a company. And all the other manufactures of the 3d printer who have cloud base service think that they can ignore the threat of hackers. Are grossly misunder estimating the world we live in today. 😂

Once clarification was pushed out and lan only dev was an option it was still up to the user, but you have to roll your own security,
There are users who ONLY print offline or lan only.

This update isn’t about security. If it were, why did the community recover the private keys in a day?
There were active attacks happening as of a week ago on flash forge.
Anycubic had compromises last year.
Pretending security doesn't need to be addressed makes the video 100% right.

We know it was about security. But the way they did it was wrong. It was dumb, insecure, easily cracked, and caused issues that simply did not need to be caused.

Could get a stand alone wireless router for only your printer and pc to connect to. Don't connect to your modem at all.

@@nicsatterstrum9662 😂

Great presentation, thank you! I just bought my 2nd Bambu lab printer and hope to get to buy MANY more.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. You have some fantastic machines.

@@Mr76Pontiac Indeed. Always have alterative solutions in case of the unexpected.

Security updates can exist separately from functional updates. If security were actually the concern here, they would have a separate update stream for security updates. Like what Windows does. I can opt out of functional updates for Windows while still keeping my system secure with updates.

Simply put. This is another Y2K reaction. In no way is anyone being prevented in using their property.
Its not our property if the manufacturer can change the terms of the sale after the fact. Its not my property if the manufacturer can alter the way the printer works at any point. Its not my property if I lose functionality if I don't adhere to what the manufacturer deems is "best" for you.
@ your bank does this , your creditors do this, your doctor does this every website does this very same thing.
They are attempting to boil us slowly, and there are two bands of people: those who call it out, and those who say that the temperature is fine and they don't mind it.
Inevitably, conformists will make the experience worse for everyone.
@@PrintedTrucker To which I have the option to change banks, change credit cards, and even change my doctor. I can decide if I'm going to use Google, Bing, or tor. I'm in control of what I do with my PC, I'm in control of what I do with my car.
Thank you for sharing the truth, calmly and without all the negative hype, one way or the other!

The argument is valid, but it's not the issue (or the string of issues) most people have.
What is the issue's people are having about this update? Sorry I just don't follow a lot of social media and I am curious about what the issues are.
It's called a strawman. They build up your argument to be as weak as possible so that they can dismantle it, the issue is, it's not your actual argument. It's their interpretation of your argument.
Edit- fumes, not flames.
@@Ruzgfpegk the argument is you can use the printer how you want. But if you take and OPTIONAL update you have more security, if you don't take the OPTIONAL update then security is on you.

What if it started costing you money because services, like home assistant, was affecting your other customers.
What would you do? What are your specific answers?
Your full of reason, my hardware, my software, my network.... it's my job.
New Apple? Hardly.
As an Linux user I really can't understand your argument. Security is possible even using open standards. Without much effort.
THIS!!!!
X1C came out in 2022. The model will get its 5 years of security updates. Because you bought it last year does not negate that.
Good on you, man. This was a great video and i just wanted to voice my support for you. It can't be easy swimming upstream in the Bambu River right now and I really respect you for not capitulating to the hysteria.

Well said.
Sums it up well enough for me.
bravo and totally agreed, that their is nothing wrong with what Bambu have done or will do. 😂

Updates are optional. You were never promised updates and cloud has never been required.
Security updates are clearly one of the reasons. Don't like it don't update.
@@No0o0o0o0o0 That's the entire problem. Bamboo is now saying if you don't update they can lock you out of being able to print. Why am I not surprised you don't even know the full story of what's going on

bro, wish people would take the time research before saying, I could do a you tube video. There is only one point. You can't change the terms of service after you paid for something. We were happy at the time we parted with our hard earned dollars.
