You could actually remove the front mesh+dust filter by sticking you hand under the front panel and basically pushing the mesh out towards you, so you don't have to worry about the front I/O cables

I currently own Fractal's Define R5 (Windowed) and love it! But cheaper, smaller looking, tempered glass cases are really annoying (In a good way?) being as though I spent $120 on my case......Edit: Ha! I just realized I answered my own question. 😅
I was trying to decide between:
Current Case: ($120) 22.69 lbs. Acrylic, Sound Dampening Foam, Fan Controller, Removable ODD Drive Bay.
NZXT's S340 Elite ($100) 17.92 lbs. Glass, Front Panel HDMI.
    Fractal's Define C TG ($95) 14.99.lbs Glass.
Phanteks Eclipse P400S ($80). 15.40 lbs. Glass, Sound Dampening Foam, Magnetic Dust Filters, Fan Controller, RGB LED Controller. *WINNER!*
I wanted a new case cause I'll be getting an HTC Vive pretty soon and plan on showing it off to friends/family and didn't want to lug this heavy ass case around. The S340 Elite does have a front panel HDMI port which is perfect for connectivity but the Eclipse has more features geared towards my taste.....mainly looks. Thing is....I don't *need* a new case, I'm just jelly😥. It'll be better if I just mod my R5 (PSU Shroud, Glass Side Panel) Then, it'll be even heavier....smfh! Now that I think about, buying the P400S would probably be cheaper than me trying to mod my case and remove the chance of my f*cking it up / it looking like shit lol.
Oh Look At That! "Phanteks P400S TGE vs. NZXT S340 Elite" Thanks Greg! Wow, and I paid $60 for NZXT's HUE! 🤐

Thanks so much for this review. I purchased the meshify c based on it and this is a brilliant case. I had a case that was roughly the same size but the airflow was awful. This case dropped the temp by 10-12 c and after doing some tweaking as well i got the new fans to be very quiet even when hitting higher temps. This is a really nice looking but also super cool case.

  • @4thNebula
    @4thNebula 7 лет назад +5

I love that case makers are getting the size of their ATX cases smaller like this one. Nice case. Missing Type C IO. Surprised case makers are coming out with new cases in 2017 without Type C. This makes these cases obsolete right away.

Looks like you don't understand why Fractal go smalling this case little bit.
That second fan space you talking about most of the people don't use like your self actually unnecessarly making the cases longer.
Loks like Fractal spot that needless space make case much more small and compact.
Also you don't need to pop off all front panel to clean the mesh.
Watch HardwareCanucks video how easly take off that front mesh panel.

240x120 radiator (like Corsair HX110i v2) fits perfectly on top of the case, without blocking anything on the mainboard. Larger than 120mm (like the Corsair HX115i) doesn't fit as they are blocked by the motherboard.

I bought the Fractal Meshify Mini C and installed my hardware into it yesterday. I switched to this from the Define Mini C. (Non TG).
Build experience, both cases are the same. Only thing that is a little annoying is the front panel on the Meshify Mini c that has IO cables attached to it but I can get past that. I love the dark tinted TG and this is my first TG case and super happy with it.
Since the Meshify Mini C only comes with a top mesh filter. I took this off and installed the moduvent panel from my Define Mini C as the top filter cutout dimensions are the same.
The Meshify C comes with a right side panel that has no sound dampening material that was previously included on my Define Mini C. Both panels are the same dimensions so I've also swapped this.
My colour scheme inside of the same is Black/White. I have white cables, fans and expansion brackets. Once again, I removed the white brackets from my Define Mini C as I think it adds that little bit of extra consistency with the theme. I have 2 x 120mm Silent Wings 3 at the front and 1 x Fractal design GP-12 (120mm white fan) at the back exhaust. My CPU cooler is the Cryorig H7 as this fits perfectly with the Black/White colour scheme and is a brilliant performer for the price.
Finally to top it all off, I have 1 x cooler master led bar installed at the front of the top of the case which gives a nice white glow. The bar is very bright with non tinted panels so I'm glad the panel on the Meshify Mini C is so dark as it gives a very tasteful pure white glow that isn't overpowering.

Greg, try adding some subtle white LED's inside the case that act as lamps. That will make it easier to see what's inside, while still being subtle with the tint. I think you'll learn to love the tint.

  • @Poombeef

Great case, I did my R5 build in it. I had such a great time building inside this case. The only thing is that a full size psu gets a bit cramped with the drive cages installed. I have a seasonic focus plus 750 gold which is 20 mm shorter, with that room i was able to stuff my cables in there. I also have two 140 mm fans in the front with a 240 rad on top. Its a bit tight, but everything fit with a MSI x370 gaming pro carbon. My 140 mm fans are white LED makes the front mesh stand out in the dark, love it!

  • @alexlap3303

it's a case optimised for air cooling and it's a perfect case for it. A custom loop wasn't the purpose of this case but a aio will easily fit on top any 120,140,240,280 will fit.

The dark tint is AMAZING with RGB lighting. It removes the bloom and makes it look less obnoxious. However, if you don't get any RGB or lighting in general... A lighter tint would prob be better as mentioned in this video.

2 years later and the Meshify c is still may favorite case on the market. now I just can't wait for an updated model. All it needs is the updated front io, the new tg panel mounting system which is now standard on fractal cases, and if possible a slightly more modular power supply basement. I don't care if nothing else changes as long as I get those few things.
Edit: Maybe since it is such a compact case it might also be a good idea to bring back the old exterior grommets for routing of tubing to external water cooling hardware.

Airflow is average with a blocking front panel and top and bottom intakes on it. And I think except for noise dampening and the fan control button next to the rgb control button its the same as the p400.

if you front mount the radiator you can open the front and cut the plastic grid out and put your radiator in it or fans will give you a little more space. and the tent is amazing mixed with green and black wires. green lit up fans with the black tent, makes it look amazing. tho fans can get loud if you fill it. I took the bottom off and put two more fans in. 1 in back two on top, three in front and on on bottom pulling air up into it.

Gtx 1080 with arctic accelero iii extreme cooler (hence the rad up top, cooler is long!). Thing is quiet as all get out and my i7 4790k 4.4ghz stays below 55c and gpu 55c all day long while gaming. When you remove the front panel you can actually do it easier without taking off the whole face plate if that makes sense. After you remove the bottom air filter if you put your fingers in that opening between the bottom of the shell and the mesh face plate you can pop it out that way and its just removing the air filter on the front so you dont have to worry about the cables. Hope that helps/makes sense there is a few videos online showing it though.

Since the case is so wide and the radiator is shifted towards the glass panel side (see top view), so VRM heat sinks should not matter. The radiator and its fans will be well above them; even a 240. You can see that when you showed the top down dust cover remove shot where you can see the mounting points and VRM height. Cheers.

If a H100iv2 fits on the top Moduvent of my Define Nano S, then a 240 AIO will fit on the top panel of that case with a motherboard in it. It's fine. The clearance is a little tricky and you have to make sure you put in your 4+4 pin first, but I've had zero issues with my build in a smaller version of this case with a similarly sized AIO.

I Have the older Define R5, no PSU backet, Psu shroud, a bit larger i would guess, acryllic side window, yet lots of sound dampening foam etc, moduvents, integral fan controller.... these newer ones look cool, but the r5 was a dream case for me for years lol, not about to put it away :P

Your gpu issues are kind of mute here. This case was clearly designed for air cooling in mind. Yes it supports AIOs and custom water cooling, but yeah I don’t think it’s fair to hark on it because it can’t fit a “non reference ” graphics card when it could easily if you were rocking air cooling vs aio/custom cooling.

Fractal Design pulled a No Man's Sky.We were promised an awesome case with (finally) tempered glass and all we get is a Define C with a different front.

For the price it’s the absolute best case on the market even in 2018. These sort of cases arent meant for you high end enthusiasts it’s meant for the 1080 gamer with an air cooler on cpu and a medium sized gpu aka a 580. And the whole dark tint I actually prefer. With some simple Corsair RGB pro ram and 2 LED strips u can see things fine. The partial disruption is actually nice I don’t care to see everything just that of which I highlight with my led strips and ram. So basically it works for me.
Meaning I’m so glad I bought it.
Only gripe I have with it would be the size. If they made a full tower with these exact same specs and features I’d easily pay another 30 bucks for that. But right now with my current build aka a mid tower build the mid tower meshify C works Perfect for me. I just want the full tower so I can have another perfect case but for my future full tower build. Since I won’t be doing 1080p gaming at that point.

Hmmmm... I don't understand why you dislike the white fan blades, white PCI brackets and white HDD bays.
I have always loved Fractal for their simple and beautiful design, having the contrasts between the white details and black case.
Nice review though! Really been looking at the Define C mini, but due to limited stock where I live I haven't gone for it... but now I really am thinking about the meshify, its just sad they don't have a mini version, but seeing the Focus G, Define C etc, they will probably soon! :D

definitely getting this case. more value than h500 seeing the extra stuff you can put in it (mainly rad support and airflow).

One small critique Greg: the front panel can be popped out without having to take the whole front of as Dmitry from HardwareCanucks found. Really solid case and review! Would totally like to see one of the legendary Greg certified watercooling loop in one of these one day!

You can remove that front mesh but reaching underneath and pushing the mesh out with your fingers. Without having to remove the front panel

    1080ti ftw3 and a rad+ fans wont fit.
a 280 rad with fans up top wont fit either because it hits the ram.
the only solution is a 240 rad+fans up top if you have a long card.
BUT its still the best case created.

Graviton AS oh man i was worried about the MSI 1080 Ti not fitting with a 280 rad in the front. What kind of temps are u getting with the rad on top??

  • @matthewmiller513

I have a Define Mini C and assuming the Define C has similar dimensions plus the additional ATX height then you can fit a full loop within the confines of the Mesh. Using a 240*38mm rad with 25mm fans in both the front and top of the case. 2 reference 1080Ti boards leaves about 6mm of space between it and the front fans. Top radiator clears motherboard components however it results in top connectors being completely inaccessible. Had to use a Swiftech Apogee Drive II for the pump, and a Swiftech MCRES for the reservoir. Again this is a Mini C so I have less height to work with; the C and Meshify might have enough height to use real reservoirs and pumps with a little creativity. Also of note is that I had to run one of the tubes from the front radiator through the cable management area behind the tray.
Just wanted to mention that it absolutely has the clearance. It's not a long case, but its well designed.

You don’t need to pull the whole front panel off if you are trying to mount fans for instance, there is a latch under the front panel which is accessible once you remove the bottom filter so that you may remove the front mesh filter, so not that hard

  • @Guitar4life99
    @Guitar4life99 7 лет назад

That cable management is disgustingly good as always, would love to do a build an achieve something clean like this :) The Fractal Define R5 Titanium goes alright for me, airflow could be better but with the Noctua fans it's super quiet, in fact when it's underload I still barely notice it. I can here the fridge from the kitchen haha

Get a Define S if you want more space that's why there are more choices the C is a smaller version for more compact builds. C = Compact.
