Andrew returns in a few more days. This is one of the few videos I edited, but we should be back to his standards of editing soon! ^SB
I don't understand why they didn't include a dustfilter for the front intake - that makes it impossible (at least without diying one) to build a dust free positive airpressure system where you only have to clean the intake dustfilter once in a while in order to keep the system clean.
I don't get it, how is a 3 db(A) increase in noise a reasonable trade-off for merely 1 to 2 K lower temps under load?
Maybe I'm reading your charts wrong, but this case sure seems to find itself in the loud & warm corner of the cases tested so far.
Do you have to remove the drive cage to fit 3 fans to the front or just part of the power supply shroud like you said in the video?
Well, when I had my old PC with an unfiltered mesh front I had to take it apart to do a proper clean-up about every half year. With my newer PC I didn't have to do any cleaning besides the dust filter since I build it about 3 years ago so I'll never build a PC without proper dustfilters again. Don't really care about those 1-2° C difference when I get that much of benefit in return.
there is filter for front mesh ... it is removable and washable
"We like this case overall" Those are some really strong words for GN ;)
Coochie man
finally someone actually mentioned the important things; thermals and noise, in the comments section of every other review for this case i was asking for them all to just tell me how dam loud is it going to be.
I'm surprised people still give a shit about noise levels. Do people sit in dead silent rooms and somehow not go crazy? Because I never hear any of my case fans when they spin at their highest settings.
@@devilinthewoods3809 Not everyone is using their computer in the same way and same kind of setup as you. Noise levels are VERY important if you're recording multimedia with your PC!
I have this case and I just put in 2, 140mm fans in the front. The extra fan absolutely helped with my GPU temperatures (reducing temps by 5 -7 degrees) so the advice to get an extra fan for the front is wise
Wish more companies would do cases like the Air 540. I love my boxy little case and the airflow is awesome.
Cody Jones agreed the Air 540 for some reason is mostly ignored. Great looks and amazing cooling. Best case I've ever owned.
Anidees have a couple, Cube and Crystal Cube but yep I would like to see more ATX sized cases like that too.
i really liked my air 540 but moved to the haf evo xb with 2 less fans and way lower thermals and noise. prior to the xb i couldn't get 5ghz on the i7-3770k, without temps that just didn't strike me as "optimal".
I would like to try their larger version 740? but for now i'm actually looking into maybe making my own case designed with thermal and air filtration as the main focus.
Can the 540 take 200mm fans? I like the boxy cases like the 240, 540, and the latest ones. If I am going to upgrade for better air flow I want that bad ass 200mm fan action that pushes massive amounts of air at half the RPM's of 120mm and even 140mm's. The H500P would be on my wish list if the two 200mm's weren't covered my plastic. WTF.
No they don't support 200mm fans. Most cases don't because their static pressure is really low compared to 140mm and 120mm fans. 200m fans are pretty much a gimmick at this point.
I like the case parts fading in and out, showing all aspects of the case; even right down to the bare frame. That is some good stuff. Gives you a great impression of the room inside the case, and what you can do with the mounting points. Good job on that shot GN!
I'd like to give you a friendly advice on your testing methodology. You should definitely implement front intake fans in all of the cases that you test, in order to appropriately test these cases. I've seen you bash the 340S as "warm" and you tested it without front intake fans. The truth is, no one is going to buy these cases and not implement front intake fans on them. I'm pretty sure in 2017, a lot of people are aware of the importance of airflow. A lot of people might already have a case and will use those fans in the new case, while others will simply buy 2 extra fans if it's their first case. Now in this review, you did include testing with added front fans which is good, but I believe you should ignore temperature tests without front intakes. I believe that the majority of people are looking for temperature test WITH front intake fans. This is important because, the fact that you guys have tested a lot of your cases without front intakes installed in the past, made the results almost useless. I'm just happy that you did include front intakes for testing this case(the Meshify). Sorry, I just really need to get this point through to you guys. Please continue to include front intake fans in all of your case testing.
do you have this case? my fingers hurt from trying to remove the front panel to install the intake fans. i was only able to remove the mesh panel which gives me access to the top intake fan slot. the bottom slot is blocked by the psu/hdd cage plate and that plate screw is blocked by the front shroud
Nimo, you are spot on. I wish Steve would listen......
Fron't intake fans make no difference to the s340. Google for tests.
I wanna rebuild my rig in this case for sure. Been doing a shit ton of research lately and this case really is one of the best airflow focused cases under $200.
Heck yes. Im going to do just that propably this weekend bro
Arnoldo would this be better or the phantoms p400a?
I really appreciate the thermal testing you guys do. Gives us a good idea on air cooling performance, before we drop cash. Great Job Gamers Nexus.
I have this case and I absolutely love it. Thermals and airflow are great, and my pc is pretty quiet on top of that. I couldn't recommend this case more.
Versifyd I’m using the 2 stock fans. The one in the front for intake and one in the back for exhaust. My cooler is the cooler master hyper 212 rgb black edition. It provides more than enough cooling for my Ryzen 5 3600x. But it also probably helps that I keep my room very cold, so my pc is drawing in cold air all the time, so that helps.
Versifyd You should be more than fine with the stock cooler. Amd’s stock coolers are pretty good. The 3600 should be fine with stock. I only got an aftermarket cooler because the 3600x runs a tad bit hot. But if you have the budget for an aftermarket cooler by all means go for it. As for the case, it’s extremely quiet. I can’t hear any of my fans even when watching a youtube video, or doing some heavy gaming. I think you’ll really like this case. It has a lot of good cable management options and the psu shroud is a nice added touch.
Versifyd I’d also like to mention my gpu is the msi geforce rtx 2060 gaming z. The front intake fan provides excellent cooling. I’ve never seen the card exceed 69 c. And that’s with games on 1080p max settings. I play a lot of overwatch and my card gets more then enough cooling from the intake fan. I don’t think you’ll have any problems.
Really liked the editing with the transparent front panel and PSU on the turn table. Well done and informative.
If the fan placements are not optimal why not add in a three front fan or a 1 high 1 low set up. If you and your audience are all about the cooling wouldn't a set of numbers with the optimal configuration be the most useful metric. So we can see what cases are best when you add fans anyone worried about temps would add.
Yo can put 3 case fans on it. You just have to take off the metal plate and the HDD mount.
@@killertruth186 you just have to move the hdd mount further in no need to take it out
@@ball0000 Figured that out. Although it is easier to remove it for triple fan radiator.
I mean, if you didn't care about noise you could just open or even unscrew the front door on the Define R5 (and I assume the smaller variants) and have a dust-filtered 'open' front intake.
These temperature differences seems largely inconsequential, unless your ambient is very high for some reason (desert or tropical).
Just moved my aging 1.gen i7 system from an Antec lanboy air into the Meshify c and i can't believe i've waited this long, added 6 fans to the case and dropped about 10c on everything during load
Great information, thanks for making such a clear and detailed video. I’m building my first PC and chose this case for it, so I’m very happy to find out that the high low setup for the front fans works best.
Well did it work best? Im interested
I'd recommend running this case with 2 140mm bequiet fans front and a 120mm rear. The good thing with 140mm fans aside from increased airflow potential vs 3 120mm is that you can place one in line with the CPU and the other with your GPU
If you don’t mind answering, would a front mounted 360mm aio with a 120mm rear be a good setup? I’m thinking about also running a vertical gpu as well with an rtx 3070fe.
go go airflow. glad to see it's coming back in style
I did a ton of searching for a new case because I was looking for a much smaller form factor than what I'm currently running (Thermaltake Core V71, an absolute monster of a case), and I settled on this one. I came across this video a few days after I ordered it and now I feel a lot more confident about my choice.
Watching this in may 2018 and the meshify c is now available in white and in a mini version. I think fractal is listening which is really good.
1:38 - This shot is the tits. Great idea, idk how often it's used but yeah; solid.
Can't wait to track down the newly released mini variant of this case.
So pumped to finally receive this review from GN with a real background in actual gaming and workloads. You should have received a review unit from Fractal the first time during the press distro, yet I am sort of glad your review was independent. The data is so much more valuable to the real consumers when making purchase decisions. Keep it up!
Just got the white version of this case, 3 120mm fans in the front, two on the top, one on the bottom, and one in the back, little loud sometimes but for gaming it keeps things beautifully cool and quiet
I used this case for my last build and ordered a yellow front mesh replacement for it, it looks great.
I like like like that you started testing also with additional fans. Thanks!
I really love the meshify c. However, I would add more fans, especially to the front to help lower temps throughout the system. Also, keep in mind that while this case supports an AIO liquid cpu cooler, be careful on the size. I put the Corsair H100i on top above the motherboard, and there wasn't much room to spare between the radiator and and heatsink on the motherboard. If you want to do a twin 140mm radiator, make sure it will fit with your motherboard first.
Couldn't agree more. I am in mid build with this case, White with the optional white mesh, and a front mounted 280 Arctic Freezer II. Wish it was white inside mind. Got a Gigabyte Vision G (thanks to Buildzoid), 10600K, 32Gb Corsair 3200 Vengeance Pro (yeah I got the lighting kit too). Moved the front fan to the top and bought another to keep it company. 2060 Super for the interim but then probably to a 3080. Initially I took the bottom plate out and there were no problems but last night I refitted it and still managed to squeeze the 280 radiator in the front with 5mm clearance below. It was a tight squeeze mind.
Hey Steve, I have a few suggestions for content that would interest me and possibly a lot more people:
- Testing the new Fractal Design Focus G and Focus G Mini, to see how those cheaper cases compare to the more expensive and if there are any disadvantages, especially regarding thermals, of going with the smaller case.
- a streaming test in the same way as the one with the Ryzen 7 1700 and the i7 7700K, but with the Ryzen 5 1600. I know a lot of future streamers would love to know if the six cores are sufficient for a good streaming experience for the viewers.
Thank you for the content and keep up the great work! Both here and in the MTB channel!
I’m surprised there aren’t more comments about the awesome editing
I just ordered the Meshify C and looking at reviews I'm confident I made a great choice, it's like it has little to no downsides, great price too!
*Good video!*
I have a question: _Airflow or static pressure fan in the front of this case?_
Static pressure imo, the front panel has dust filters underneath, which will restrict SOME airflow.
@@pretzel3779 Thanks! :)
@@123reivaj No problem!
Glad I picked this one. Finally I picked a decent component.
If only i could fit my Rog Strix card in.... A case for airflow that can't fit a card with good cooling, makes so much sense... and almost cost the same as other full towers while being a small one itself facepalm
the video editing is pretty slick
Just got one of these on sale. Still great performance for the price in 2020. With 3 front 120s, 1 top exhaust and 1 rear exhaust my system is running very cool 👍
Where did you get yours from? I see it's only in stock on Amazon for $105-115
@@Smashking91 Newegg had it about a month ago.
@@TheBrdeshotels wym I bought bit from newegg in sale during black friday
@@samuelconsuegra1206 Nice, it goes on sale from time to time. I saw it popped up around Black Friday again.
The big difference in Canada is that the RL06 is somewhat of a premium item and costs anywhere between 25% - 50% more than the Meshify C depending on whether you want the TG panel or not so it's not hard to justify the cost of getting extra fans to make it competitive.
Where is snowflake?

I got the Dark Version for my gaming rig. 👍
best case i have ever built in,and the easiest.did a basic 2nd system for the family to use and came away wishing they made a larger version that would take a 480 rad in the roof and no other differences.anyway...good review..
Thank you for this I just want a mini version of this. But I am very glad fractal listens to customers. Fractal big you are watching please make an itx version of this
Kind of regret not giving Fractal more attention when i was building my PC last year. I really like this case, the size is exactly what I like in terms of size(fullsize ATX components in as small a case as possible), with what appears to be well thought out cable management. I like my Corsair 460x, but cable management leaves something to be desired. Now if only someone can come out with a case just like this but with a HINGED TG side panel.
amazing video, great getting into the details!
Thanks man! Huge help as always 🤘
That really is a fantastic looking chassis. Love Fractals designs and this one takes it to the next level with the mesh front.
looks even better in real life. i was sceptical, but looks really good.
This channel just read my mind. I was expecting this from you.
My friend is building me a new 9th gen rig and he recommended this case, I always listen to his advice and took some time to check other reviews and man this review got me excited for my new case!
If I can summarize for anyone getting a meshify during quarantine:
1. Replace the stocks fans with AF-14s 2:50 & 3:10
2. Place the fans on the front, configured in the top and bottom slots, not the middle. 6:18 & 5:38
3. Place your GPU in the middle 5:06, meaning the top slot
He does not say place your gpu in middle PCI slot. Place your gpu in the top slot.
@@Primo1616 you're right, will fix
i think theres no way to put a 140mm case fan in the lower portion so you would have to put 1 140mm on top and 1 120 on bottom lol
Thanks for the review!
From what I can see you can mount two 140mm fans at the front. Is there space for a third one below if I drill the missing holes?
Geronimo I too would like to know this
Cant put a 140mm on bottom front unless you dremel off some of the psu shroud (that angular part)
Well this is an EXTREMELY late reply but there is space for 3 120mm fans. Not 3 140mm fans.
Any chance of a review for the Enthoo Pro M in the future? It's what I plan on using for my next build, but the Meshify C and RL06 Pro are tempting alternatives. Hard data on thermals in the Enthoo could be the deciding factor for me. Thanks for making these highly informative reviews.
you can mount a fan on the bottom where the harddrive cage is, which helps the GPU alot
It was cool (ha) of them to do this.
Hello Steve. Should I use an airflow fan or static pressure fan for my front intake in my Meshify C? Thanks. ☺️
I wish Fractal would make a middle-ground case between the R5/S/C and the Meshify. Something with decent acoustic dampening as well as more airflow. I know the 2 are at odds with one another in most cases.
I think the standard Fractal side vent design probably is the best middle ground, you lose a little airflow potential for a decent reduction in noise. Look at the big charts there, the Define C is pretty much in the middle for both temps and noise. That said I wouldn't mind seeing some innovation, perhaps there is a possible design that will be really good at getting air in and keeping noise from escaping.
How about 3 120mm fans instead of 2, 140? I think that would work well as well, one at the bottom for cooling drives, and the others for GPU and CPU. I think removing the shroud part that obscures the HD cage might also help further with the effectiveness of that lowest 120mm fan. Whatcha think?
I’m running 7 120mm cheap white led aigos fans, keeps my lava hot raw ii 5700xt nice and chilly. In: 3 front 1 bottom. Out: 2 top, 1 back. I can regularly run my 5700xt at 2100mhz clock speed without issues. I usually keep a 2% oc. I think it can go higher but I’m not brave enough to try haha
When do we get the Meshify C review??
NO MA'AM "Fractal Meshify C Review:" Isn't that what this is?
Everybody's been complaining about it for so long I thought I'd keep it going.
NO MA'AM Oh lol whoops, yeah I have seen a lot of people asking for it
Can fans fit in the front panel?
BLK GNX It seems like you do not actually read the comment LUL
1. SilverStone RL06 needs to be wider to support beefy CPU cooler, and all would be good.
2. Define C without front panel seems to be a good option.
love this case running a corsair aio , top mounted rad pushing air out, 2080 DUKE just fits with a 120mm in front of it..
Great video as always, love Fractal Design. Do you think you'll ever get your hands on and be able to review the Calyos NSG-S0 silent case? Some really intriguing stuff going on there, and it apparently actually performs very well too.
That might be my choice for case if i was buying one now. But im not planning to do so anytime soon. Only thing i don't like is "front panel connectors" are at top.
I already own a windowed Define C but I kinda want to upgrade... The tempered glass is so nice too.
I had a case that came stalk with a front and rear 120mm fan with room for 2 on front and moving the rear fan to front intake allowed a 4ghz overclock on R7-1700X witch is small compared to 3.95ghz but its a gain due to positive pressure all intake that was free
Dying to see the mini get tested. mATX is so tough..
Sounds like an easy and affordable fix. Buy yourself three 140mm Noctua(Grey) or two 140mm Be Quiet Fans. For better acoustics and air coverage especially if you're using and AIO for your cpu.
I'd love to see a Meshify Define S with a tempered glass side panel. Currently using a Define S and I would buy an updated one in a heartbeat.
Hah im glad that your wish came true :D
@@arnoldo9319 oof, too bad my current system wouldn't fit anymore. Maybe in my next build. Lol
finnaly mesh making a comback
yep looks very nice like ibm z series mainframe
Link to the SilverStone RL06 that cost 75 as they all cost 104 or so and put it at 25 more than the Meshify c
Now if only they would release a Meshify Nano C. Seriously, I want this in an ITX form factor so bad.
Any chance of a matx version? I find so strange that fractal spend so much money to assemble a build with this case in a yacht with a youtuber that drops beer on his face and didn't a sample for you...
Your wish has been heard and duly granted by the Case Gods.
Great video I just got into pc building and this case was what I did my first build in and I love it. Glad to see you guys did a vid on this one. Great stuff keep up the great work y'all s videos are very informative and awesome.👍
What i did is just buy the normal Define C without the glass for full sound dampening, then cut a hole into the front the size of the dampening part and then attach a dust filter at the inside. Now you get better temps than the meshify while still being completely silent.
hey man would appreciate some pics
@@staunchin4726 I basicly just followed this tutorial.
mnpctech.com/fractal-design-define-s/fractal-design-define-s-mesh-custom-replacement-front-bezel-plate.html
Instead of removing the dampening material i just cut through it and instead of a perforated metal plate i just used this but you can use any size you want or need.
www.amazon.com/dp/B07BXYWJ9K
They are the same material as the top dust filter that already come with the Define C.
Oh and instead of using glue i just cut the hole the exact size of the filter, attached magnetic strips to the inside and now basicly just lay the dustfilter into the hole from the outside and it hold because of the magentic strips.
@@kwedl thanks for the reply and the links! Greatly appreciated.
How come the SilverStone RL06 GPU temperature is so much lower? I mean, I get that it directs airflow better, but *TEN* degrees lower? That's crazy, especially when taking into account that the Meshify C is well ventilated
Really late response, but the Meshify C is heavily limited by its stock fans. The silverstone rl06 comes with more than 2 fans (4 I think), while the Meshify only has 2 fans, 2 crap fans. If you put the same amount of fans into the Meshify C, the tempertures will be a lot closer.
Optimum Tech did an absolutely incredible video comparing these two cases, and while he did use two extra static airflow fans (instead of high airflow fans) in the Meshify, it does essentially equal the RL-06 in cooling performance.
Haha they're definitely watching your videos. I just bought a meshify c and the front fans come mounted lower, pointing at the gpu, like you recommended
I wonder how much difference putting a couple 40mm exhaust fans underneath the gpu would make?
Probably the best on the market to this day...
loving the see through overlay. Just need a motorised dolly now ;)
Great review. I've been eyeing this case for a few months now.
I asked on your forums, but are there any plans to review the Focus G? I'd love to see that case get an in depth GN analysis.
Does this case have enough clearance to have Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition installed smoothly?
Yes
This case can even fit an nh-d15, so a measly hyper 212 won’t be an issue
yeah waht pretzel said
I don’t think the problem is the front panel on the Define C. It’s the very restrictive filter. On my Define C, I can easily notice the difference when I take the filter off.
yeah. it's a combination. side-vents can't pull much air in and filter is blocking alot of it.
Thanks for the review.
I dislike the fact that you haven't done a benchmark with all fan slots filled. You don't have to use noctua fans due to the cost but it feels difficult to estimate the cooling ability of this case or any other case when only 2 fans are used. This may be inapplicable to the noise test but it should be done for the temperature tests. I know most people probably just buy a case and use stock fans but the slots are there for a reason and should be tested.
I really hope they make a slightly larger version of this for eATx
I would love to have a meshify c mini, it would be the perfect matx case for me.
They made one!
It is just 4cms shorter. I'm not sure if it is worth to buy mini version for almost the same price and height with this one and eliminate the ATX option for the future.
If only they released a mesh front panel for the Define C separately. Gonna have to mod my front panel at this rate.
Ooh... looks like the PSU Shroud Industrial Complex got to this one. Along with the Bye Bye Drive Cages Industrial Association.
The Define C, which this case is based on, already had a PSU shroud so it shouldn't be surprising that this case has one. Also, this case has a hard drive cage under the PSU shroud towards the front of the case, again, like the Define C.
It's the same tooling as the Define C. It is the Define C, structurally speaking.
Sorry for the stupid question: The airflow was neutral and coming in from the front, then leaving in the back. Correct?
thanks for the good review!
You guys need to test the Couger Panzer S case
is this a sponsored video? I got myself this case and now see many positive reviews
RL06 with noctua fans I guess'd be a sweetspot between cooling and loudness, besides the cost. Isn't it?
I own this case i have 3 120 mm fans in the front and two 140s and the 120 in the back and top they r more for the lightning then cooling but i like it
I found it for about the same price as the Silverstone RL06.........now, I can't choose
A bit late, but since you have to buy extra fans with the Meshify, the Silverstone will be cheaper.
@@richardw2801 Thanks nonetheless!
I know I'm late but the Meshify C is hella sexy!
whichd u get ?
@@glennhuangqixuan1723 The Lian Li O11 that performs ok with an air setup and will be nicely upgradeable to water-cooling
Fans aside for a moment, Meshify C or 220T RGB Airflow for my Asus Maximus VII Hero, no gpu, only using building in HDMI for movie watching in VLC. 32gb ram, samsung evo 860. That's the entire setup. Both cases are the smaller ATX size I need for my place. I bought a cooler master h500, huge monster, returned it.
Why the RAM? Why a big PC for watching movies at all????
I was originally using a very small mini ITX setup but due to the older processor in that setup and small amount of ram, at higher resolutions at the correct hz setup, there was bad screen tearing (spelling). Some of the current parts were donated to me from a buddy at work so I took what I can get. I have now added a gigabyte 1050TI GPU which allows me to run movies at higher resolutions with the correct hz setting at 60 and the movies run and look great. Beggars can't be choosers lol. The board really determined the case size I needed and this case fits the bill perfectly. Would I like tiny, sure for my living room but honestly, this case isn't that big and has a little flair as well.
With shrouds isn't it better to get a 120 down at the bottom for mechanical drives.
my primary pc has been pure ssd since 2010, i'd never use a mechanical drive in my primary pc, not even as 2nd or 3rd drive, since when os tries to access it (spinning up and down) apps/os can freeze it sucks.
Yes. 3x 120mm fans are better if you have HDD installed!
I have 1x M2, 3x SSD and 2x HDD = 14TB internal. I use the HDD only for data, not for installed programs. There are people who don't just use their PC for gaming. ;-)
I would kill for a meshified FD Node 304
Pro Tip: Tear out that cheap filter behind the metal mesh, results would be damn near similar to the results without the front panel.
Hey! Have you tried this? I own a Meshify C and have been considering this. My only concern would be the massive influx of dust into the chamber because there would no filter (the holes on the front panel are massive).
bah, i just bought this case, i didn't know it was 3yrs old, i hope its still relevant.
still one of most beautiful atx cases out there in 2021. not too gamer-y, sleek almost bionic look in front, if you remove the foam (on the old version) and add some fans and a good cpu cooler and it's decent performance-wise. as long as there are atx motherboards it will not be invalid. they even released new versions since.
bottom filter is easy to clean, it's very easy to build in, and is priced fairly. it's still nicer looking imho than all of the new coolermasters, corsairs, thermaltakes and nzxts.
I built my first pc in this case. I can’t love it more!!!
Where would be the optimal placement for the Meshify-C be for an 240mm AIO Liquid Cooler?
top.
All this stuff is good, thermals etc... but god damn that front panel is sexy af
I see you left the top uncapped. Supposedly the stock C cools better when the top is capped. I think it was OC3D TV that measured this.
yay been waiting for this
I just can't decide if I want this in Black or white
