- Its been a long time coming, get your wallets ready. I believe this is the MOST effective way to paint Urethane Rubber casts for cosplay. Not only does it leave your piece with a Hero Grade finish, but its tough as nails! Watch until the end to see what I mean ;)

This is SUPER helpful. I'm working on a TPU/fPLA print for cosplay and needed a good paint that wouldn't crack
I’ve not tested this on TPU, on cast urethane rubber.
@@offearth3d if I get good results, I'll reach out/make a video on it. There aren't too many resources online for painting/finishing flexible cosplay aside from using EVA foam

My EVA and printed armor takes a beating whenever I fly with it to a convention. I think my next iteration is going to be this method.

Tried flexipaint from a can, work at first but then realised no flexibility & peel off.

Yes, I usually mix my Auto Paints first (2:1), then add the Imperiflex to that

Definitely can do that.
Not a cosplayer, however, I admire the dedication, time, and equipment investments required to produce good to great quality costumes and props. The bonding agents in Imperial Flex must be something else to provide such a durable bond on a flexible material like this.
It absolutely is. I’ve tried virtually every product you can buy and it’s simply the best and easiest to work with.
any news about that project. I'm starting a new armor and would like to do many parts in urethane and I'm having some hard time gathering the info about doing a silicone mold for an hollow piece like a forearm and casting the urethane. Any help and pointers would be MUCH appreciated.
Can Imperiflex be used with a small airbrush? Or does it HAVE to be with the HVLP setup with the heavy duty compressor?

How can I paint on the Rubber surface,
The reason why I want to paint on rubber is..
Whenver I touch them, my hand is full of the colour (Like I play with colours :)
I don't want to wash my hands every time I touch this rubber. Is there any solution for this if you are aware of!!

Alumaluster is flexible when applied over Imperiflex. They’re sprayed on separately.
Okay, I am starting to 3D print some cosplay. I thought about creating molds to cast in urethane. Any info on mold making?
I like using Rebound 25 and Free Form air by Smoothon. Plenty of mold making videos. I suggest you start small and work your way up!

Hey 2 questions , what if you wanted a matte finish no gloss and also what about painting fine detail with say a brush on urethane ? Thanks !
Matte, you can use lacquer based matte clears to dull it. Fine details i use alcohol based inks via airbrush
Was it a little sticky when it cured? I'm looking for paint for restoring bendable toy figures (bendies). You think this method will work? I also got some where the old rubber has sticky components making there way to the surface making the toy sticky. Would the clear seal that chemical in?
This may work for bendy toys.
Would that method be applicable for TPO materials like the ATV panels for example...the painting of these is a real nightmare for all of automotive Refinish people. What do you think mate?
This would make matching colors easier to hard parts also compared to cold casting with a metallic powder instead.
Cold Casting wouldn’t do much good here since you can’t or don’t really want to “buff” the part.
@@offearth3d I was saying this method would be better than cold casting. But for flexible urethanes, using a makeup brush to smooth out the powder in the mold beforehand makes for a nice metallic sheen that doesn't need to be buffed out since that isn't really an option like you point out. I've gotten great metal looks with this, but your painting would match colors and textures more is what I was saying.
@@DaniMakes oh yes, I agree. It’s a work around for using pigment/metallic powders etc.

All the products are around $800, but that’s all the urethane rubber, silicone etc
How far will that $800 get you in, for example, your halo armor build?
@@augustochavez9449 hard to say but I’m hoping it will finish the arms and some of the legs. I’m still using a kit of rubber from previous projects.

Kind of. You’d have to seal it with a top coat of Imperiflex
Ngl...I'm a little miffed at their lack of colors and reference photos. Hopefully they expand the collection soon. I wouldn't mind trying them out.
Most of their “colors” are chromes. But they do offer candy colors as well. Their website is lacking some key pics and info but it’s 2 guys that run that entire business.

@@offearth3d great stuff, i was actully looking to make rubber armor and wasnt sure what to use that would take paint. i had used smooth on task 16 to make blasters in the past but they didnt take paint unless it was acrylic. i think this stuff your using may be better! The painting is a bonus for me at this point in time haha. thanks for the video!
@@Lou4130 task 16 won’t work using this method since it’s not a true urethane rubber.
@@offearth3d yea i found that out the hard way haha. Im going to try what you used for this piece, and now i know what paints will work as well! Again thanks for the video! Other makers i had asked wouldnt tell me what they use for rubber armor...i guess they didnt want more competition, but i knew eventually id find out/figure out something that works! So thanks for THAT as well!
@@Lou4130 it took me a few years of research, trial and error to get here. I know how people gatekeep this info.
The alumaluster without the 2k really gets dulled down sadly.
The Imperiflex is a 2K Clear. It’s designed to work on soft and flexible substrates.
@@offearth3d Ill clarify. Without the Gloss of a typical high gloss clear 2K finish the Alumaluster is reduced to a silver gray. The reflectivity between this and a standard alumaluster application is dramatic.
@@mml3140 I use Alumaluster as in intermediate coat and top coated with a third paint. It’s a dull grey because of that. It’s just a shiny without the top coat
@@offearth3d can you show that on a different piece? Because unless it retains the high level of gloss it's basically just an adhesion promoter. A highly effective and useful one. But to mess with isos and spend that type of $ and not get that 2k gloss the flex paint you started with or other alternatives are just as good for a cosplay.
