Absolutely beautiful. The Dreadnoughts called this 'basically the only good song we've ever written,' but IMO it's one of dozens. Avalon, Victory Square, Paulina, Roll Northumbria, The West Country and A Rambler's life all give me chills

    I lie in centuries grove
    Where the cool wind blows
    Where the cool wind blows
    Upon this stone plateau
    Where the cool wind blows
    Where the cool wind blows
A dust is falling in the air
    The murderers are millionaires
I will wait to see you there
    Avalon
    Avalon
    A young man fell below
    Where flowers grow
    Row on row
    A madman lays the foe
    Where flowers grow
    And the children know
    Bullets shatter naked bone
A little girl grows up alone
Carves your name into the stones
    Of Avalon
    Avalon
You are my peace of mind
    Where the river winds
    Where the water shines
    Orchards hills and vines
    Where the water shines
    Where the water shines
    You don't belong to anyone
When the day is said and done
    You'll receive your native son
    Avalon
    Avalon

I don't know what it is, but some of the chords/harmonic elemend here SO MUCH remind me of another song... that I can't remember. It's absolutely killing me.

Does anyone know what this song is about? I've tried to deduce meaning from the lyrics, but it seems to be full of historical/folklore references that I don't get...
I also couldn't find any background information about how Avalon was written/composed.

Avalon is the place legendary resting place of the KIngs of the Britons, modern day Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall. it is said to the the resting place of King Arthur, Avalon is simply a place of rebirth as the Ancient thought of death as a rebirth. In modern time Arthur is still used as a symbol of freedom for the Britons against English rule.

@@iforbach1 Fascinating! I didn't realize there was so much mythology behind this song...

@@InventorZahran It si not Mythical, its the history of the Britons, a thinking that still lives today, even in this modern crazy world, The stones and the river are signs of these refered in the song. The stones still remain on the mountains to this day. They are aligned to the star systems. Hope I didn't bore you! :-)

@@iforbach1 You didn't bore me at all! I saw the name 'King Arthur' and incorrectly assumed that the rest was all fictional. Thanks for the history lesson!

It's about an English soldier who dies in WW1, and leaves a daughter behind. Avalon is used here to refer to England, and is also the name of his daughter.
