I know you didn’t enjoy this video for very long. But, it’s really informative and relatable for those of us that have only been flying RC for a few months. I’ve had to repair both of my planes after making similar “spatial awareness misjudgments”. And it’s super helpful to have videos like these to use as a reference for the “post mortem”. Seeing what’s repairable and what’s legit toast. So, as painful as it was for you, just know I’ll be watching this several times as a second opinion for my own less than perfect landings. Thanks 👍🏼
My fav thing about Brian is how he proves that you can enjoy this hobby anywhere. He is proof of how to do this safely, in confined spaces, around tons of obstacles, and all with a smile on his face. at the old clubs there were always tons of AMA guys yammering about staying clear of obstacles and would probably have an anyeurism if they saw this lol. Brian and Camera Crew are the best! thanks for proving this hobby is a fun safe thing for people to enjoy!
“Let’s go check out the damage I’m sure it’s severe” classic man was laughing my face off. Thanks for sharing the experience! I’ve had a few stupid crashes recently I feel better now.
Hats off to Camera crew for keeping her cool and keeping the camera on the main man 😎 as much I hate to see u crash Brian I still really enjoy your reactions to it as there's always something to learn from your mistakes, rebuilds, experiences etc. Top bloke 👍🏾
Brian huge kudos to you for not only owning this up front but keeping your cool and showing us the aftermath. For me I'd use a new carbon wing spar. Good luck with the rebuild.
That tree seems to like any plane named after an animal. Eagle, fox... I crashed the FMS 1400 mm P-40. Very sad. Took off and turned to cross wind when one of the three prop blades broke off. Plane shook like crazy, ejecting the canopy and chewing up the cowling. I had very little altitude in order to turn back to the runway, landed hard and split the fuselage into two pieces. That was last summer. I made repairs over the winter, reshaped the damaged cowl with lightweight spackle, matched the color (as much a a colorblind guy can), and have already flown it again this season. I love this hobby because flying is super fun (and really the only way for colorblind folks) and most times repairs can get you back into the air again. Also, I purchased that plane after seeing your video of it!
I had a similar crash with mine, wing come unplugged and lost control of one wing with control locked one way. Broke wing tube and sheared off mounting tabs on fuse. Had to fabricate new wing tabs and replace wing tube. It's one of my favorite planes to fly. The fox takes alot of room to land, very tight landing at your house, make sure you got all the flap you can get. Me and my buddy Brian had fun hanging with you and camera crew at Joe Nall. Get that bird back in the air.
For what it's worth, it made me feel better seeing you make the same "scale" mistake I made last year. I was used to flying small to mid-sized stuff and I switched to a SkyHunter. I did EXACTLY the same thing - because it was bigger than my usual faire I thought I was past the tree but wasn't!! Great reminder - thanks Brian and Camera Crew!
A nice dose of realism :) I thought it held up really well for a 40 foot drill bitting. I know you must have all the parts in the basement, unless you gave your old Foxes away. A little China glue and that wing will be stronger than it was before. I'd remove the prop and make sure the motor and mount are good. I'm just shocked the fuse in the canopy area didnt break. I had a Banana Hobby Super Sky Surfer lose the elevator servo at 399 feet, and it went straight down and literally exploded into 10 million foam bits. Thats my favorite crash.
There is only one type of RC pilot, those that have had a crash and those that are going to have a crash. This is a real testament to the build quality of FMS aircraft, when you hit that hard they usually become an organ donor’. Personally I would like to see a video of you repairing and re flying the Fox because I always learn something to try when attempting to resuscitate my next brain fade.
Great point. Dad was a bomber pilot. Naturally I was into planes. As I got older, he always asked what kind of flying interested me. He expected me to join the Air Force or get a commercial license. My answer was always Crop Dusting. I like low and slow. His wrinkled face every time I uttered those two words convincing me to seek another career. Tugboats! Far more lucrative. "There is only one type of tug skipper, those that have had a crash and those that are going to have a crash." We were like Saltwater Cowboys in the business of getting beat up. Everything about this plane is exciting. Can't wait until I have a parts plane! ;-)
“ I’m going to fly it like I stole it”. You weren’t lying. 🙄. 🤦🏻♂️. “Gotta love a big plane in tight quarters” 🤣. “This plane will glide for yever” or until it clips a tree 🤣. Sorry to see this. That’s an awesome plane. Thanks for always sharing, the good, bad and ugly.
I was flying my Eratix the other day near sunset. I lost orientation for a little while I couldn't tell whether I was going away from me or towards me. It kept getting further away from me all I could see was the outline of it. Luckily it's a slow flyer with a lot of rudder authority. I kept turning with the rudder until I could tell which direction it was pointing and worked it back towards me.
I had my Night Radian out yesterday in front of an approaching T-Storm. Kinda got into trouble low, hit the throttle and goosed it way up high. Next thing I knew my plane was pointed at me but rocketing further away and going up as if under power. It was getting sucked up. Full throttle aimed straight down got it out of the giant sucking cloud just it time. I almost lost sight of the thing reminding of my youth in the 60's losing free flight models.
Dude.. lol, I don't celebrate crashes.. But this was an "awesome, awesome" video, BECAUSE of the crash! That response and then the "trees jump out at you".. Priceless man, simply priceless! I laughed so hard at your response, and then explanation.. That was awesome! Of course it happens to us all.. But you(and camera crew) took it in stride! That's what the hobby is all about! And I have to say, I don't care what the "more prude" think! The dialog between you and the Mrs, is great! You two are to be commended for the love, after 4 kiddies! It is most refreshing, and thank you guys for being you!
Crashes a SIG King Kobra due to elevator servo arm falling off… Forgot to tighten fully.. Took 6 year to build and took a while to get over. Love the looks of that airplane, and already have a new kit on order! I’d love to see it one the channel one day!
I thought I could hear Mister Bill on that approach- “Oh noooooooooooooo” (and, by the by, I HATE it when that happens! I thought I was way past that tree!! I’ll bet your mind told you it WAS way past the tree because of how big it looked in the sky-)
If it makes you feel any better I flew my 1700mm PA-18 into the side of my house flying at dusk and misjudging distance on a landing approach. It was a big bang. The great thing about foam is it was all repairable and only cost me a new spinner and back plate for the prop.
I crashed my Ultra Stick 1.1M yesterday. It’s sucks but I was getting too confident in my flying and got too low doing some inverted flying and when I tried to switch it into SAFE, it was too low to recover. Luckily a new fuselage, motor mount and prop will have me flying again.
LMAO!! Hilarious commentary! The entertainment value alone was worth the crash. Many thanks to that 40 year old tree for stepping up to the plate to make this possible!
I watch these videos with my father. He said… “same thing, tree when I was ridge flying at Del Val.” I smirked, I’ve seen some of his crashes. Epic! Nothing left of the poor thing.
Classic! "...evidently, it was just a little tighter than anybody thought..." LOL Love it!! Yeah, keep showing us these kinds of "real world" scenarios! I'm a little bit sick of seeing only good flights from most RUclipsrs. I WANT to see "oopses". I WANT to see mistakes. I WANT to see mechanical or electronic failures. I WANT to see the results of poor judgement or even just bad luck....because that stuff actually happens to US out here in the real world. So YES! Keep this up. Love seeing your post-crash evaluations of 1) how it happened and how you'd avoid it in the future, 2) what all was damaged and what is repairable, etc. Thanks. Keep up the great work.
Humble pie doesn't taste too bad when you haven't crashed in a long time. It happens its part of our sport. I enjoyed your video it shows other pilots even advanced pilots sometimes make mistakes. All is repairable or replaceable.
It’s all good. That plane is a beast. Think about removing the prop and motor to check the engine mount . Its almost certainly bent, 35:52 broken, or has been moved from this lawn dart crash. Ask me how i know! Newbie flying a conscendo evolution. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
I think the lesson to be learned here is that if you have a super huge one, don't try to put it in tight places otherwise you'll end up with your crack packed full of crap.
My most embarrassing learning experience was with my 1100mm FMS Hawker typhoon. Because I fly over a farmer's field without a Runway I have to hand launch and belly land everything. Maiden flight.... All the control surfaces were checked. Grabbed her by her chin scoop and gave her a toss. When I brought my hand back down to the stick I accidentally hit the flap switch and engaged full flaps. Bro…. I hate to admit i was not a fan until. This video….. i been flying for 15 years and to this day i am so surprised when i bring one home in flying condition……. Much respect for keeping your spirits up. This video made me a fan for sure
Need a variometer beeping for when you are in lift and an altimeter! Good times! Crashes happen. I have had issues when I am used to UMX ultrix and shift to the 600mm. That’s when I hit a house with my eyes thinking plane was closer. DUH! 😱
I'll totally testify on your behalf... I mean that tree came out of nowhere, it just jumped out in front of you! 😂 Hey it looked like you were clear to me as well... Had to watch it a couple times
I know, even after watching a few times, it still seemed like I should have cleared. Megan even said so off camera, and she usually just points and laughs ;)
you've given me the strength to take mine out the box and dust it off. been looking at this BEAUtiful box in the corner of my garage for well over a year now
Whoa !!! For such a large and heavy beast with a huge battery that's a lot less damage than I expected and you got to take our funny and loved camera Crew on an afternoon stroll !!! Great video you Guys !!! 😉😎
Brian, Thanks for showing this video. I have this airplane and I LOVE it. I was anxious to watch this video to see what happened. I was glad to see it was not a mechanical problem. I feel your pain. I have crashed a glider too, just not this one. I watched the first video you did a couple years ago on this plane and it really helped me set it up, etc. Good work! Thanks
Hi Brian sorry for the loss of your beautiful plane I know exactly know how you feel I crashed my Giant RC helicopter it gout caught in a updraft and I lost control and it crashed on the parking lot of the local Walmart it was totally destroyed but like you said things happen in our beautiful hobby thank you for posting this shows me I am not alone absolutely love your beautiful channel my best wishes to you Meghan sincerely love from Canada your friend Richard ❤❤
LOL - yeah, this one was innocent...think "an innocent man" Billy Joel ( ruclips.net/video/mQCWY5ynBaw/видео.htmlsi=FeqUshsvyN-AWWFd&t=104 ) - That tree is CONSTANTLY singing that around FMS planes!!!
This video was excellent, I loved the fact that it showed the post crash details and the model damage , hitting a tree is not a thing to feel bad about as we all have done it but this just made the flight more relatable and real for me ,I look forward to more from this channel ' subscribed ' well done you guys another great flying video much appreciated 😊😊😊😊😊
Fantastic! I like how you played off the crash, sometimes those trees do jump out at you lol. If anything it like a great plane to fly in an open field. It could be a very nice FPV platform. If I got one I would find a way to get an edf onboard! Great video!
I've autographed a couple light poles at our club flying field. My original Turbo Timber, a Conscendo, and a flight test home-built. The HH planes flew again, but my foamboard build has become a wall hanger. I feel your disappointment, but that is just part of the sport.
Awe shucks Brian. Those pesky trees... I'm sure you'll get it back up in no time. Losing the smart lipo battery hurts. Especially with a plane that big. Done that too. Can't wait to see your "seconds thoughts" on this one. It should be a goodin. Tell Megan I said hello. Hopefully I catch back up with you folks in the fall. 🙂
I feel your pain bro, I hit a tall tree with my Eratix I just got in Monticello but fortunately the plane didn't have any damage at all, however I sustained quite a bit of "emotional damage" 😭🤣
Well bran new turbo timber evolution lasted less than 2mins blew it in half got it glued back together haven't flown it yet moved to smaller planes at least you owned up to the crash no big deal yours looks a lot better than mine did
Crashing is good for US (yes, me too🤷♂️) when WE think we're purdy good pilots. It's Karma's way of making sure OUR ego & heads still fit under our caps!
Hate to see that Brian but thankfully it looks fairly easy to repair!!! I broke the elevator spar on my AeroScout, I used the longest piece and its held up fine for about 2yrs now 😁 I think that shorter spar will work fine long as you don't do full throttle dive bombs!!! 😂
Come here to Tucson and thermal today will be 116 degrees... This is the kind of plane I would like. Cost is good. Hard to tell how close it is to the tree because of it's large size.
I've looked all over RUclips and the web for somebody with a Fox 3000 doing some actual slope soaring..."Woah! Fudge Packer!" I've seen nada. Saw some guys doing FPV with a Fox 3000, which seems cooler than cool. They were only doing cross country. You happy with the 6S 5000 battery, Brian? What other battery choices for just a wee lighter plane?? Love your humor and Family Guy worthy innuendo. Pulling the plug for one of these soon.
I want sooooo badly to slope this plane!!!!! It would be orgasmicly good, but since the Army Corp of Engineers basically own the Dams around here, we don't have a lot of great choices ;( BUTTTTT we do have one about 3.5 hours away. We might need to get out there and fly it again!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I live in the Okanogan Valley in Washington State. Every direction I look there are hills perfect for slope soaring. I can slope soar my driveway, our shop and the rows of hay in farmer's fields. I agree with you, videoing a glider soaring in blue sky lacks a little curb appeal. But I couldn't find anybody on RUclips with a Fox 3000 actually exploiting the glider's features on the slopes. I'm not a Utuber but perhaps I will find a Camera Crew of my own? Speaking of exploitation, are you in need of an official original custom designed BrianPhillipsRC Fudge Packer™ sticker? (I'm a happy sign guy with a penchant for mirth.)
The only people who HAVEN'T crashed an RC plane are those who don't FLY RC planes. Nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about!

Totally!

Everyone seems to be enjoying my pain and suffering - LOL ;)...
@@BrianPhillipsRC part of flying is the occasional tree strike
WRECK IT RALPH STRIKES AGAIN!
Fantastic! I like how you played off the crash, sometimes those trees do jump out at you lol. If anything it like a great plane to fly in an open field. It could be a very nice FPV platform. If I got one I would find a way to get an edf onboard! Great video!
Thanks so much!
DAMN! 😳 She big! 🤣 I love it!!!!
I saw that tree jump up and grab yah ! Yelp I sure did ! lol
100% oooh yeahhhhhh
7:09 i felt that "ohhh". That was a bit of a jumpscare haha.
I love the scream of that glider
Wow. Always heard all planes have expiration dates. Had no idea this one was the same day it was born 😢
🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 funniest thing I have ever seen, good job BLO 😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it ;)
OOHUUUUFUDGEPACKERS!!! haha that got replayed several times..maybe my next ringtone haha
I've autographed a couple light poles at our club flying field. My original Turbo Timber, a Conscendo, and a flight test home-built. The HH planes flew again, but my foamboard build has become a wall hanger. I feel your disappointment, but that is just part of the sport.
That was more that a Tip Dip you knocked the bottom out! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i have never in my life seen somebody take a crash so good xD
“Woooo fudge packer!” Lol
Helloo, es hermoso y espectacular, te felicito,, lo disfruto
Well bran new turbo timber evolution lasted less than 2mins blew it in half got it glued back together haven't flown it yet moved to smaller planes at least you owned up to the crash no big deal yours looks a lot better than mine did
2 Minutes!!! Almost as bad as mine - lol
Sounds so good when it whooshes past ya
You guys are super cool and i absolutely love your channel. I thumbs up every video no matter what happens!!
Thanks so much! We appreciate your support!
Awesome, cool under stress of damages
와~ 창공을 가르는 비행기가 아름답네요. 브라이언 필립스!
Damm trees are 90% air too bad you hit the other 10% 😳
Brian it's all good because SHT happens !!! 😁
Very cool
Thanks! Sure is, this sail plane is a monster!!!
Jack Black now doing RC stuff!? Right on!
Fly it like you STOL it.
Cheers
Brian i had splintered a carbon spar before on one of my planes so i just put a smaller aluminum rod in it worked fine lol
Nice!!! I was thinking some Epoxy, and a smaller inner liner, and blammo-wammo ready for the next tree - LOL
@BrianPhillipsRC yea epoxy would work for sure I think they are hollow for max weight saving but an inner tube wouldn't make it that much heavier
Brian, you got rid of the telephone pole, now you may want to get rid of those trees.
Crashing is good for US (yes, me too🤷♂️) when WE think we're purdy good pilots. It's Karma's way of making sure OUR ego & heads still fit under our caps!
Yes, crashing helps keep us GROUNDED - LOL LOL LOL ;)
Hate to see that Brian but thankfully it looks fairly easy to repair!!! I broke the elevator spar on my AeroScout, I used the longest piece and its held up fine for about 2yrs now 😁 I think that shorter spar will work fine long as you don't do full throttle dive bombs!!! 😂
I hate it when when trees jump out in front of you and grab your airplane from the sky
Blows my mind that in this day and age you still use a timer to determine the battery consumption lol
Looks like you picked the wrong day to give up sugar! LOL
Haha! It happens, she'll fly again!
She will indeed!
Meadow looking sweet
We have one of those airplane eating trees at our flying field.
I would cut it down, if I didn't love trees ;\
I do love your channel

I live in the Okanogan Valley in Washington State.
