    You can’t do a thorough job of cleaning the mildew inside the rotating (trough-like) water well without removing the back outer skin of the ice maker by removing screws on the bottom, popping off the skin, then unscrewing the top assembly. Then after you drain the unit of all water, plug the unit in and turn it on and let the trough rotate into an accessible position then pull the plug from the wall to stop it from reverting back to its inaccessible resting position. Now you have plenty of room to squeeze a microfiber rag in between the freeze rods and the trough. Vinegar or bleach run through the machine will not clean these parts fully. This is one of the reasons why this icemaker is inexpensive. It is not a great design.

    I like the video. I did not notice the clean feature on my Ice Maker, but my question is will it get rid of the squeaking noise when it fills that part that makes this ice; that's those rods?

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  Год назад

      Thank you for watching! As for the squeaky noise, it could be caused by hard water. I know of a person who used a descaling agent to clean the machine which helped remove a squeaky noise. I’d say give that a try and see if you have any success. I’ve also heard of people using distilled water because their water is hard and causes mineral deposit buildup that can result in the ice machine not working properly and making abnormal sounds. If you give the descaling agent a try., let me know how that works out for you! I haven’t ran into that issue, but it’s probably because I don’t use my ice maker constantly.

    • @agd29ifi
      @agd29ifi Год назад +1

      @@marshmallowcuriosity Thank you for your response to my comment. I thought white vinegar (or cleaning vinegar) would be the solution. If it’s descaling, I looked at those online so are you referring to those that are used for coffee makers? Also that water I use is from one of those pitchers with a filter; specifically Brita. I would never use plain tap water especially with all that calcium. Once again thank’s for the reply.

      You are very welcome John! I recommend cleaning it once a month if you are using it regularly. If you store it away for a while, I recommend cleaning it before using it again. • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  Год назад +11

      Thank you Lily for your question! I run it through two cycles. So I will fill the water up to the fill line and make ice until that water is gone. I will dump the ice and then fill it up again to the fill line and run it through a second time until all the water is gone. I will dump that ice also. After those two full cycles, I will then make ice that I will use. I have never had any ice that smelled or tasted like vinegar or lemon juice after two cycles. I hope this is helpful to you and thank you for watching my video.!

      Hi Timothy! I recommend you trying a reset on your machine. First, unplug the unit for at least 30 seconds. Check the water tube screen (filter like component) inside the water reservoir. You can snap it out and make sure there isn’t anything blocking it. Rinse it and snap it back in place. Then fill with water up to the max line. Plug the unit back in and press the power button for 10 seconds to reset. Then turn on the unit to see if this has corrected your issue. Hope this helps! If not, then there may be a bigger issue with the machine.

    I bought the EFIC123-SS at SAM'S CLUB after seeing it for almost $10 more at a Super Walmart Store.
    We're in an apartment since we took a direct hit from a tornado in December of last year and had been buying a couple of bags of ice every few days.
    Now, within a few minutes after turning the device on we have ice being made. We only use bottled Spring Water (the only water we drink and cook with) and have had nothing but great results.
    At the first sign of something very small floating in the tank (probably from a water bottle that wasn't completely cleaned), we shut it down and I'm cleaning it now.
    It's paid for itself many times over and we're totally satisfied and recommend it for anyone looking to save money on ice. Before you run out to by one, shop around for the best price...

    My ice maker which looks identical and is made by Frigidaire (it's the brushed aluminum one) has no "Clean" notation on the power button.
    I sprayed the trough with 91% IPA and have not used the ice directly in a beverage for a long time. (just for cooling cans and keeping things cold)
    It's probably a good idea to learn how to disassemble and clean this thing regardless of any cleaning function.
    If I have to get a new one bc I screw up the disassembly/reassembly process, I'm getting the red one. 🤔

    If using lemon juice, what’s the ratio to water??

      Hello! You will use a quarter cup lemon juice to 8 cups of water. Thank you for your question!

    On the clean cycle does it clean under/behind the little bucket inside that hold the water while it makes ice????? Had this bright idea to stick a Mr clean eraser under that lil water bucket and wa disgusted with how black it was.

    I have the EFIC one and I don't think it has a clean cycle because I held the power button and it would think I want ice to be made and if I keep holding it it will turn off.

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  Год назад +3

      For ice machines that do not have a cleaning cycle, you will run it through a normal ice making cycle 3 times with vinegar and water. After three cleaning cycles, then run it through a few cycles with just water and throw out the ice.

      @@marshmallowcuriosity ironically that's what I ended up doing. Even though it was a pain and sucked. It was a good way of doing it. Also since I didn't have any vinegar on hand and the store was closed, I ended up using lemon juice and water.

      Thank you for your comment! I recommend resetting your machine to see if that works:
      1. Hold/press the power button for 10 seconds
      2. Unplug your Frigidaire ice maker.
      3. If there’s water in the reservoir, drain the water reservoir.
      4. Empty the ice basket, if not yet emptied.
      5. Wait for 30 minutes, then plug in your Frigidaire ice maker again.
      6. Refill the reservoir and see if it works.
      🤞🏻

      The user guide for my machine doesn’t
      say to not use vinegar. Actually, the instructions on cleaning the model I have are very vague which is one reason why I made this video. Vinegar is one of the best things you can use to clean appliances, BUT, if your model instructions say to not use it, then you should stick with those instructions. It is always best to follow the user guide’s recommendations on what not to do. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

      Yes, white distilled vinegar can be used to clean appliances like this ice maker and is great for cleaning because it won’t stain surfaces.

    I cleaned ice maker but now the lid does not close all the way, any idea how to fix it?

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  Год назад

      Hi Tara! Check to see if anything small fell into the hinge area of the lid. If something gets lodged in that area while the lid is open, then that would keep the lid from closing all the way. That’s the only thing I can think of that might keep the lid from closing. With this model, the ice basket fits a good way down into the unit so I can’t imagine that would be an issue.

      Oh no! That’s a bummer!! When I first got mine, I did read that it needs to stay upright. I know there are a lot of people who didn’t realize there was a drain plug on the bottom, and have probably done the same thing with turning it on its side or upside down to empty the water out of it. 🥲

    "Black mold"? Um...if you had black mold in your machine, you shouldn't have a machine. Ick.

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  Год назад +4

      Hi Sharon! Black mold is common with any machine that uses water and may not have the perfect way to dry out appropriately when not in use. People will see this with humidifiers for example. So, with anything where water is involved, there is always this sort of risk. Definitely a personal choice on whether the benefits of any machine outweigh the risks. That’s why cleaning before use is important. Thanks for your comment! 😃
