Primitive Trick to Get Drinking Water in the Desert

  • Don't do what I do unless you are in a real survival situation or you are prepared to deal with potential consequences. I have consumed raw wild water in many places and only one time did I ever get a very mild case of diarrhea and that happened in a river that passed through several towns in Mexico. I have consumed water from springs and streams in deserts, mountains and coasts many times without any other treatment to it but I don't recommend it and I know there are potential risks. However, I am willing to take the chances in order to prepare my body to be tolerant of bacterias and pathogens and to gain more primitive survival confidence in the wild. In this video I show how the nature can provide the basic resources necessary to keep you alive if you should run out of water. Sometimes water can be found in the desert at the base of mountains. Just find a sandy or rocky wash and follow it up. Look for areas that are unusually green. If you find moisture you can usually dig down and create a small pool to collect this vital fluid.
    Protect your feet while allowing them to be free with my favorite sandals:
    Luna Sandals are the original sandals that I've worn on my adventures: www.lunasandals.com/?rfsn=102...

    Thank you for sharing your personal experience. You seem to have great survival skills in the wild. However, it's important to always remember that drinking untreated wild water carries significant health risks and can be seriously harmful.
    It's always best to seek out clean water sources and properly treat them before consumption to ensure health safety.
    I must say, I am very impressed with your other survival videos. You share your experiences in an engaging and informative way, highlighting vital skills for surviving in harsh conditions. Keep up the inspiring and helpful content!

      Here’s the thing though. Survival isn’t in optimal conditions. In a survival situation you could be faced with two choices and neither choice is ideal.

    • @primitive.and.ancient
      @primitive.and.ancient 7 дней назад

      True, survival often requires making tough decisions in less-than-ideal circumstances.
      It's about adapting and making the best decisions possible with the options available. This is especially true in environments like deserts, where agricultural resources are scarce, or forests and mountains, where the terrain adds additional challenges.

    The one thing I'd be extra cautious about is getting any untested/untreated water near your eyes. It's not just bacteria that can be a problem, but also microscopic parasites. Your guts have hydrochloric acid to help weaken such things (though not completely eliminate all such hazards), but your eyes do not. As Chad says, calculate your genuine needs versus the potential risks, and determine for yourself if it's right for you to do a particular thing, given your current situation.

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  26 дней назад +3

      I don't have any knowledge about waterborne pathogens infecting the eyes. I have swam in many rivers and streams and never had a problem with the eyes so I've never thought about that.

    Hi Chad! I'll watch your videos for a few hours at a time! I learn so much from you! Although.. sometimes I see you doing something that I think is slower or harder than the way I'd do it. I'm from AZ, and my brother & I would often go exploring out in the desert off of I-17 between PHX and Flagstaff, around the top of Walnut Canyon, where down in the canyon are a lot of ancient Indian cave dwellings. We'd often find broken pottery shards on the ground when we'd go gather Pinon nuts. We both had several survival books and my brother did ADVENTURE DISCOVERY group for young teens to learn survival skills. He and another boy spent the night above where the trees can no longer grow with only a blanket to share. I really was into botanical healing, and my friend owns Winter Sun Trading Post in Flagstaff. I learned a lot from her as well as books. If you do get sick out where you are, is there anything to use if you get sick from the water? Thanks! Stay safe! Nancy in ABQ

Спасибо, Чед, ибо ты показываешь правильные уроки, и многие благодаря этому выживают.

    I heard the flies & it reminded me of outback Australia. 😆😆
    I grew up digging for water on the sides of dry sandy & stony riverbeds & streams in the outback.
    In most landscapes where you observe a gap in a range, series of hills & such there you will find water. It will flow along the geology of this terrain & the water table will be more accessible at these points, a foot or 3 beneath the surface if it has not already formed a small surface pool. Once you dig down water will seep into your hollow.
    In these geological gaps if there is exposed rock you will likely find water seeping from rock faces for the same reasons...geological layers.
    You may also find water in boggy spots if there is plant cover on the sides of gaps. You will have to explore.
    Any safe plants can be licked for dew, especially nectar plants.
    Certain plants store water in roots, unusual fruits and act as receptacles for edible insects high in fat & water.
    Get to know your local flora.
    Observe where insects & birds gather in your quest for water.
    Along coastal.areas plants like Samphire , Pig face, aloe are all readily edible. Most sea algaes too. Learn your plants.

    This was great. I have a question. How did people in biblical times, or native North Americans filter water, to make it safe to drink, if the water wasn't that clean? What did they use for that purpose? Cheers, Chad! ✌️

      I have not studied much about water preparation in the past but what I have read is similar to what I did. An Indian well was common. I first experienced the Indian well over 30 years ago at a river near a tiny village in Mexico. I observed the locals dig a hole in the sand on the bank of the river and drink the water that gathered in the hole. The surrounding sand filters it. Of course this can only be done in uncontaminated rivers but it was a very common technique. I've also seen how the Maya people would take a huge limestone rock, chip out a hole in it like a mortar and suspend the hollowed stone up above the ground with branches. Then water is poured into the hollowed stone and very slowly seeps through the limestone and drips into a clay container below where it can then be consumed. In this video I collected water using the Indian well technique but instead of next to a river it was in a seep. I didn't find more water above the seep so the water had to travel a long way underground before it surfaced where I collected. Therefore I believe that it should be safe.

    I wonder if theres a certain process to make the water somewhat safer to drink without a fancy tools or boiling it; buy maybe boiling it is the only way to go? If so i wonder how do you even boil a water without proper pan in survival situation

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  27 дней назад +2

      The water could be boiled in this container by suspending the gourd with water in it just above hot coals. The skin of this gourd is thin but if done carefully the water inside would prevent it from burning.

    Does the human body build up a tolerance or imunity to any troublesome contents of the water? And could you reduce infection risk by letting the sun hit the water in the cup for a while, so UV radiation can kill some germs that may be in it?

    • @ucef9945
      @ucef9945 27 дней назад +2

      I think it's better to start fire first then boil the water to get rid of germs but in extreme cases where you can't do all that this video is accurate, survival tramples everything else.

      and no, sun uv will just increase the germs

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  27 дней назад +2

      I believe that the body does build up a tolerance to pathogens but it needs exposure to pathogens for that to occur. It also needs a strong defense (army) of protective bacteria and who knows what else. This good defense is acquired in the wild, not in products on the shelves of stores. Most modern people lack this defense system. That's why I don't recommend people do what I do unless they are prepared to go through the long period of adjustment required by the body.... Regarding UV treatment for the water, I really don't know anything about that....

    • @zinckensteel
      @zinckensteel 26 дней назад +1

      It's old and sun-bleached; I doubt many alkaloids remain. Also, I believe the main inedible components are saponins when it comes to the wild buffalo gourds - so they could be washed away by rain and definitely would have been noticeable as suds in his water.

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  26 дней назад +1

      I scraped out most of the dry pulp. I was going to talk about the saponins in these gourds but it was just getting too deep with information. Saponins are very interesting because they are considered toxic to humans but at the same time they have healing properties, anti-cancer properties, and may help kill pathogens in the water. The water that I drank was bitter because of the saponins in the gourd but I again I didn't want to go down that rabbit hole. I'm glad that you are aware of this though. I have eaten plants high in saponins a few times. In small quantities I believe it is safe. Of course the gourd could be thoroughly washed before using to remove more saponins. That was a good observation. Thanks for the comment.

However, I found another spring about a mile away from this one that has water all year. I know this because even cattails grow there.
