Short answer: It's complicated. On one hand, there are a lot of great console exclusive titles to be played but on the other hand, the hardware limitations will be the biggest factor in long-term. Sincerely hope that Switch 2 can bump up the specs especially for RAM & internal storage to 8GB DDR5 RAM & 128GB UFS 3.1 internal storage (not the outdated, slow eMMC storage).
@Garrus-ub7mf Series S/X, PS5 & even Steam Deck's CPUs are x86-based, 8GB RAM for x86 won't be enough. Switch 2 is based on ARM architecture. Its GPU will be based on RTX 3000 series, but with a few features from RTX 4000 series. Also Switch 2 is aiming for performance closer to PS4 Pro.
No. Beside being an extremely old piece of tech, Nintendo is in full greediness mode and will keep delaying the new console until people keep buying the switch. Games will run a 5 FPS but Nintendo doesn't care care as long as they make the money. So please, no, do not buy it now, wait for the new console which is indeed going to be retrocompatible with all of the switch catalogue
Nintendo has NOT been silent the internets just dumb. Nintendo said 5 years in its halfway done and each start of fiscal year tells investors if new hardwares coming.
Its just a money issue for me. Hell i have alot then its an obvious yes. Doesnt matter if switch 2 comes out if i can afford anyway. Aside from that, im first party nintendo gamer, so the current specs is fine for me. My other games are not demanding like dead cells etc so doesnt matter at all.
Yes, it’s worth it. If you’re considering a console at this point, it’s because it’s not crucial to you to have a new console on Day 1. You have access to a large library or games without having to wait years for releases. You can purchase a more optimized version of the console, as first or second models have yet to discover what will be the system’s pain points. And lastly, as previously mentioned, you won’t have to wait years for releases on a new console.
While you don't need a console day one, saving 300$ (5+ different games or an entire console's life of online) is pretty huge. Especially since it is likely a lot of single player experiences are going to be obtainable for the new device meaning the only real benefit the Switch has is multiplayer games that are likely to have new releases on the new system sooner then later.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 that’s true, but if you’re waiting years for those release, you might as well get the switch, where they are available immediately.
Hard to say. 7 years for a console (or any tech device) is a long time, so you would think a new system would be around the corner, but Nintendo has been so tight lipped about it. After seeing both Apple and Qualcomm make huge advancements with ARM/Silicon architecture at a blistering pace, I'm convinced Nintendo is working on some proprietary hardware with an optimal performance/price balance in mind. Hopefully they've learned some lessons from the SteamDeck.
Yes it’s worth it because the Switch successor does not release this year. Using power to justify the Switch’s value is bias and ignorant. That same thing is even more true with the PS5 and Series consoles if that is the case as PC makes them obsolete.
I just bought the Switch OLED in Italy on Amazon for 295 Euros. The low price convinced me to go for it. I wanted to play some Mario games again since they’re easy to pick up and play compared to other games. I’m not sure it was a good purchase but I like being able to take it places and play some fun lighthearted games with my girlfriend. I’m sure it will get even better when I hook it up to the tv as I haven’t done that yet.
When I got the 2017 model of the Nintendo switch it was awesome for 5 years owning it I enjoyed gaming on it a lot. But now I’ve upgraded to the OLED Nintendo Switch I enjoy the graphics more and the battery lasts longer for me especially if I’m playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. But now I’m ready for Nintendo Switch 2 I know it’ll be different but hey it’s worth the wait.
Got my switch lite mid 2023 (bought it used), it was a great buy in my opinion, nothing beats its size. But buying a new switch right now may be a bad idea. Everything is just my opinion of course, this comes from a PC gamer and a hardware modder (yea I modded my switch lite). Edit: A modded switch can be overclocked so that many 30FPS games get to 60, or some ~20FPS get to a stable 30, however this is at your own risk.
I recommend the Lite. I have my limited edition pokemon Lite a few years ago, and it is convenient for me. It's great for people who are traveling or don't like to carry much, it's small and compact, cheaper, albiet the battery drains fast depending ok the game. If anyone has the Lite and want to upgrade, just wait until the Switch 2 comes out
@@ExtraordinaryJambecause if your controller starts drifting (a very common problem with the Switch controllers), you can’t just get a new controller. You’ll either have to repair the stick drift somehow or get an entire new console. Plus you can’t connect it to a TV.
Nintendo used to be an entertainment console pioneer and innovator now they're the most incompetent company every. Just releasing basically the same game over and over again thats only playable on their vintage switch consoles
The only problem with the switch, it's the price of the games, if you buy two games, that's already a lot of money, specially if you live in a poor country.
The Switch is not a console. It's a handheld and has 1/2 the power of a original Gameboy. Yes, the Gameboy is more powerful with 4 AA 2300mah rechargable $12 batteries. Which adds up to 9200mah Gameboy verses a $20 4310mah Switch battery. Smaller battery is not a improvement for Nintendo's handheld. It's a downgrade from 1989.
I wanted to buy the switch for christmas 2019 but I didn't have the money at the time, and by the time I did, the pandemic started and there was a shortage. I went to buy the switch oled sometime after its release but they never had them in stock and at that point I wasn't gonna buy the older model. Now its 2024 and I still don't own a Nintendo Switch. The switch came out in 2017 but the processor is actually the same as the nvidia shield from 2015, meaning that somehow the magicians at nintendo managed to get an android chip from 2015 to run sometbing like tears of the kingdom... as laughable as its performance is, it is amazing what developers have been able to coax out of the switch.

I got Switch OLED in 2023, mostly cause of the TOTK hype, I kind of wish I hadn't lol. I barely turn it on, it stays in it's case most of the time. I get all the third party games on my PS5, I play only Nintendo exclusives on the Switch but there aren't too many of them that captivated me that much other than BOTW, TOTK and FE:Three Houses, I loved those games. So from my personal experience it wasn't that worth it for me, maybe it will be worth it more for you. The portability is pretty handy though and the OLED model has a really nice vibrant screen.
Long answer: Yes, but it's at the very end of its lifespan so if you plan to use it long term don't bother, but if you're getting a great deal and you want to catch up on some of its library go for it.
I would say no. I had a switch oled 2022 and sold it when I really needed extra money. Then last summer I kept telling myself I need to buy another one. I did,and it’s mostly just been like a trophy on my coffee table.
I'd say it is, it may be late in its lifespan but it has fantastic games. If Switch 2 releases this year than that's ok. Like i bought the ps4 in 2019 and ps5 released in 2020
I'm fully expecting the Switch 2 to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, like what the 3DS was for the DS. So with that in mind I see no reason to avoid the Switch entirely. Still a great console with great games. If a person finds a good deal on it, then it's worth it imo. At retail not so much because deals for it are everywhere, so it makes no sense to pay full price. But like I said I expect the Switch 2 to be for the most part a more powerful Switch, so the Switch will still be a lower-spec and lower-budget option.
I bought my switch lite going on 4 years ago in the spring and yes it can't be displayed on any TV or monitor but being 100% portable and comfortable it's worth the price but I haven't seen Nintendo ever put any switch exclusive games up for free but Sony did it twice since I bought and owned a ps4 slim days of play steel black limited edition console back in 2019 during the days of play events which I purchased horizon zero dawn Complete edition and ratchet and clank(2016) for free however the nso expansion family plan is still 80$ usd and it supports up to 8 nso profiles.
The Switch is the GOAT console. Sure it doesn’t do 4K 500fps with RT, but it has by far the best games. I’d much rather play Zelda at 720p 30fps than some shitty COD 9999 micro transactions infested atrocity with fancy pants graphics.
I have an older nintendo switch from 2017 for homebrew and one from 2019 for everything else. I was so happy until one day the sd card reader from the older one started malfunctioning so in an attempt to replace it I damaged the fpc connector on the pcb basically the connector that is soldered on the pcb that connects the modular sd card reader so I will throw the older one to the garbage and buy a new one (2017 exploitable) since no one in my area can fix this issue or rather has the experties and is willing to fix it.
The console may had been underpoweed compared to ps4 and xbox one along being outdated by today stamdard but to me and my bro its still a very good system. We personally like the oled when we play in handheld mode when someoe using the monitor/tv for another system we have. Sure their nore powerful habdheld ikes steamdeck, rog ally, legion go, and others but for us the switch is good enough.
If Nintendo were to do a switch to whey would have done one back in 2023 I don’t think the next one is coming out until 2027 and windows handhelds don’t really hold a candle to casual users
Tbh it's really worth it if you're into jrpgs like Pokemon, monster hunter stories and Megaman battle network (this one isn't exclusive on switch but I'll include it anyway)
Im curious about the upcoming games, once the nintendo 2 is released will the new games that come out after it be playable on the OLED, or will they be suitable for Nintendo 2 only?
Amazing how the Switch never got a Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD port in its entire life cycle. What a shame, Nintendo doesn't like easy money. Emulation it is.

Nah, I got my steam deck a couple of years ago and haven't touched my switch
Nintendo said 5 years in its halfway done and each start of fiscal year tells investors if new hardwares coming.
yes its worth it. it has games unlike ps5 xbox and pc.
I got it couple of months ago and so happy with it. So many things to do. Plus you can use it anywhere everywhere.
Can’t lie when Nintendo Switch 2 comes out everyone would buy it.
To the idiots that bought the flash cart:
You are part of the fucking problem when nintendo decides that the next console is NOT backwards compatible.
Why bother developing a new one when people are still buying the old one like there's no tomorrow. Nintendo is milking the cow dry.
Yes it’s worth it because the Switch successor does not release this year. Using power to justify the Switch’s value is bias and ignorant. That same thing is even more true with the PS5 and Series consoles if that is the case as PC makes them obsolete.
The oled is the best if you want a switch get the oled
I had 2 switch on different occasions and unfortunately had to sell both, right now I'm financially stable I'm tempted to buy another one lol
Ok
If anyone has the Lite and want to upgrade, just wait until the Switch 2 comes out
@@The_TylerDurden_Narratorwhy?
@@ExtraordinaryJambecause if your controller starts drifting (a very common problem with the Switch controllers), you can’t just get a new controller. You’ll either have to repair the stick drift somehow or get an entire new console. Plus you can’t connect it to a TV.
Nintendo used to be an entertainment console pioneer and innovator now they're the most incompetent company every. Just releasing basically the same game over and over again thats only playable on their vintage switch consoles
Yes
The only problem with the switch, it's the price of the games, if you buy two games, that's already a lot of money, specially if you live in a poor country.
With Steam deck out I don’t think switch is worth it no more
The Switch is not a console.
I'm convinced nintendo is waiting for me to finally buy a switch to announce its next console.
If the Flash Card comes out this year then it is 100% worth picking up in 2024
yea, that the flash cart is already up for pre-order. i hope the flash comes to amazon besides just being stuck to one website
What does the Flash Card actually do?
@@captaincanaveralthe flash cart lets you dump your own games that you own physically into it from what I gather, and you cannot just get the roms that are widely available as it uses a different format to try avoid checks by Nintendo's online services
But so far we don't have it so we cannot be certain it won't get your console banned from using online stuff if nintendo patches it
@@captaincanaveral the flash lets play switch games stored on the SD card but if want to switch to a new game it you insert it in and out untilyou find the game you want to play switch sound like pain to do and is lazy.
@@captaincanaveralget switch games for free and be a pirate
The answer is yes but get an oled 🗣️🗣️🗣️ Splatoon 3 Salmon Run goes crazy look it up before you diss me in the comments
I read your channel name as 911 tech 😂
No. Phones are getting more powerful than the switch. 😂
Absolutelly. Got my sister the OLED model for christmas this year and she's loving it.
If you don’t have a switch yet, just mod a 3ds while you wait for the switch 2.
I have a Lite and have been really wanting to get an OLED, but at this point in just makes sense to wait until the Switch 2 comes out instead of getting a Switch in 2024.
My Lite keeps me playing games, although I would love to play them on a bigger screen. Just not worth buying a OLED now when the Switch 2 will probably be released in a year or year and a half.
Got mine in 2022, don’t regret it the slightest bit.
Tears of the kingdom can't even hold 30 fps.
No
Wait for the flash cards
😂me too ✌️,nothing personal with nintendo but deamn those games are pricey 😅...
I mean, i can buy 3 ps4 games with the price of a switch game!
@@PlayerForever-ym3qfYou will be sorely disappointed if you think that you can dump roms from the net and be done
Absolutely not. If you want a handheld, get a steamdeck, rog ally, or a legion. I haven't touched my switch in years ever since I got my steamdeck.
I'm not spending 600 on a hand held console
@@Igloojamesthey're a portable computer, not a console. You could also find them cheaper if you buy second hand and refurbished ones. A friend of mine got an lcd steamdeck for $250 a few months ago.
I got mine back in Christmas of 2019, it was a nice run with mine. But I think it's time I switch to a PlayStation for more soulsborme games. I had a fun 4 years, but getting dark souls in 2022 and playing it way too much in 2023 has made me duly obsessed with the series. I got elden ring and am waiting for a ps4.
A ds is still worth it in any date graphics don't matter
It's worth but man... if switch 2, has backwards compat + a bunch of new first party games, great 3rd party support and actually comes out in a few months......people who bought a switch this year are gonna be missing out on a lot. Hard to look at your own plate when another plate looks so much better
The portable pc sucks steam deck is horrendous
I got Switch OLED in 2023, mostly cause of the TOTK hype, I kind of wish I hadn't lol. I barely turn it on, it stays in it's case most of the time. I get all the third party games on my PS5, I play only Nintendo exclusives on the Switch but there aren't too many of them that captivated me that much other than BOTW, TOTK and FE:Three Houses, I loved those games. So from my personal experience it wasn't that worth it for me, maybe it will be worth it more for you. The portability is pretty handy though and the OLED model has a really nice vibrant screen.
Second hand. Yes
Or just get a steam deck and emulate these games with 1000 + better games
Basically buy the Oled one...
I got the OLED for Christmas and I’m excited about it!! I’ve been hooked on Zelda TOTK! I can’t stop playing
JRPG is where the Switch truly shine
seriously Nintendo is lacking of first party jrpg titles
they should add more Persona-ish IPs to the Switch
Yes, if you never owned a switch and never played switch games. but treat the machine as a retro console instead a current gen.
Quick answer, no.
Long and quick answer is yes, it plays great games with great battery life and portability is great to so what’s your problem you CLOWN
@@NehemYah810 bruh 💀
No
Just give up and buy PS Vita
Waste of money handheld junk
If the Switch 2 is backwards compatible then no, if not then yes, it has a lot of great games.
It wont be because you idiots bought the flashcart and are part of nintendo’s anticonsumer-ness
The price of the games, mostly from Nintendo, are crazy...
Still an awesome device in 2024! 😁
The Switch is the GOAT console. Sure it doesn’t do 4K 500fps with RT, but it has by far the best games. I’d much rather play Zelda at 720p 30fps than some shitty COD 9999 micro transactions infested atrocity with fancy pants graphics.
But the games are extremely expensive
My OG switch that I bought when I was 9 back in 2018 is still going strong with 4 battery replacements 💪💪💪
Mine since 2018 is going strong, don't need replacements though. That's good. I love my switch ❤😂
Being 9 in 2018 is crazy
If Nintendo were to do a switch to whey would have done one back in 2023 I don’t think the next one is coming out until 2027 and windows handhelds don’t really hold a candle to casual users
Might aswell just wait for switch 2
Tbh it's really worth it if you're into jrpgs like Pokemon, monster hunter stories and Megaman battle network (this one isn't exclusive on switch but I'll include it anyway)
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is also a good one if you want something that's kinda Pokemon-ish but not Pokemon.
it is a bit expensive ... I would go for xbox ... but they removed kinect ... arghhh
Only get the OLED these days
Im using the switch lite
Im curious about the upcoming games, once the nintendo 2 is released will the new games that come out after it be playable on the OLED, or will they be suitable for Nintendo 2 only?
I'm curious also, I think it should be playable on old switch to certain years.. but third parties new games will only be playable on switch 2.
I love my switch oled!! Don’t regret it at all!! Highly recommend it!
Yes its still worth it a lot of games on eshop tons thousands! You cant get anywhere else
Got mine last year its been great!
just emulate until next switch comes out
Does homebrew let u install any switch game for free
Amazing how the Switch never got a Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD port in its entire life cycle. What a shame, Nintendo doesn't like easy money. Emulation it is.
I bought one in October 2023still love it
Great video! I own both the Lite and OLED. To be honest I’m in not rush for a Switch 2 yet. Like you mentioned, there are soo many great games that I still haven’t played lol. And many are on back log. This is a great console and I plan on giving my 3yr old the lite as his first console 👍🏽
Im buying my first nintendo swith oled today
I bought a Wii U instead
I have the original model, bought in 2018, and it still works great. I know my left Joy-Con has some drift, but I almost always play in Docked Mode with the Pro Controller. I play New Horizons for a bit every day, of course have the major titles (MK 8 Deluxe, BOTW), some cool little indie games, and all of the Just Dance games. 😆 Also...I assembled and played with all the Nintendo Labo kits. 🤣🤣
Got an OLED late 2023 and I've clocked in around 1400 hours between 18 games.
Undoubtedly my best purchase last year.
When a Switch 2 does come out, if its backwards compatible, I'll buy one. Othetwise, much like many other I'm sure, ill stick with the Switch OLED purely cause if the amount of games I've already purchased.
Had my OG model since 2018 tbh, running fine. But the switch still has its flaws. I don't need an upgrade.
However, Getting a switch this year? Meh... wouldn't recommend...
