Fun fact: Raz Archetype is voiced by Rosearik Rikki Simmons who voiced GIR from Invader Zim and since Zim and Raz share the same voice actor, it fits pretty well
Cassie basically created each of her archetypes (split personalities) as a means to cope with the traumas of her life, and it's pretty evident that up to a point, it allowed her to function and triumph over these traumas. Maligula however was the one trauma that she didn't triumph over, and the separation from the people who cared about her combined with her feelings of weakness probably resulted in the Librarian Archetype trying to take full control in order to preserve Cassie by any means necessary, even if all it really did was keep her from getting better, since it was only a fragment of her personality that could only act in a certain way.
It wasnt even fully split personalities. Just aspects and skills she had. It's like how you mask or code switch depending on who you are around and what they need. She literally categorized herself into different forms and masks so she could label those aspects of herself as bad and have a reason to vilify them. The librarian doesn't just preserve Cassie she demonizes the other aspects so that Cassie is allowed to claim it was a different her, at a different type and she's not the person anymore. I really loved seeing it, it hit home

Has anyone noticed that not only is Raz's archetype voiced by Gir, but do to how simplistic of a drawing it is, from the from it looks like it has the body of Zim, with Raz's head on it. With the 3 strips on its shirt, its pants and boots merging into one, that looks like Zims over elongated boots and his gloves. It only stops looking like Zim from the back but if you look at it from the front, it look like Zim's body with Raz's head, and voiced by Gir.
I heard a fan theory that the reason Raz’s archetype is so happy and friendly is that Raz is all alone on his journey and needed someone to support him. Sad but interesting.
I know this response is a little late yet yeah! I love how they made the Librarian more of an antagonist than a straight up villain. Sure, trying to lock up the other archetypes was wrong, yet you can understand why she attempted to. & I love that the game redeems her, it's a really great take on separate personalities! Also, I love her laughter, including her mocking laughter during the bossfight

I think Cassie’s Collection is supposed to be Schizophrenia. Think about it: her mind is filled with lots of characters who- seeing as how a majority are drawings on paper- Cassie herself likely created. It’s also been documented that some schizophrenic hallucinations have been encouraging self-destructive or otherwise dangerous behavior, and the enemy this level introduces, the enabler, perfectly fits the bill. And just like with the ending of the level, those characters will always be a part of her whether she likes it or not. Having Schizophrenia is like taking care of small children or animals who’re just too excited; you could say they’re swarming your mind.
i always assumed it was the jungian archetypes: hence the line "i'm sure she's in here somewhere" at the end refering to the ego; but this is a valid take
I don't think it's schizophrenia, I think it's more like a multiple personality disorder or something like that, yet I do think your interpretation is interesting!
