This was exactly like an episode of Roadkill. It was running weird so they ran it without filters then there was a catastrophic failure that revealed a minor issue that caused major problems and a quick fix saved the day.
Kevin is having the time of his life. You can tell he loves the scat and has lived it. I love that he's able to see the soon to be increased interest in scats. Good job saving the craft for sure. Don't feel bad, I've seen 6 figure boats go down due to forgetting the plug.

There's be room for a small lake in the paddock between the Freedom Factory and the main road,... and enough room in that back paddock for a Jet Boat course.

@@russellayton6408 Not saying I'm a legend at all but I've been riding/racing dirt bikes my entire life, 3* solid decades of amateur/novice motoX, and I made the most rookie mistake ever: A few months ago I changed the oil on my wife's CRF150R but forgot to put the filler screw cap back in, when I was done I hopped on and kicked her over, shooting oil straight up all over her bike, my entire side, and especially my face. To top it off the bike fired right up like normal so it just threw it all out before I could even shut 'er down. It happens to the best of us, at least that's what I told myself when the wife asked why I was cursing myself in the shop.. lol. Another one is I accidentally put the mixed gas for my CR250 in her aforementioned CRF150R and she thought she blew the engine when she saw all the smoke lol. Good times.. You're never too "good" to not make silly mistakes when you don't pay attention..

Yeah, maybe he'll have some expertise that's valuable with the jet boats. At the very least with all the experience on the water he'll be great to teach all the tricks of the trade. Then we need a proper twin engine hovercraft build!

@@R4MP4G3RXD they still don't sink all the way, most boats don't either anymore. Foam in the hull makes it impossible to sink all the way, however being a race oriented unit and the fact that foam adds weight it begs the question of what that particular unit would do.

The look on Kev's face is gold , a fella in his prime, seeing a beloved craft that he worked on , make a come back. Warms ya heart and no, thats not a tear ...its raining.
Finnegan's craft didn't like the air filters because that's a sled motor. They come from the factory without a filter, just an airbox with baffles to keep snow out. They are also jetted for the cold weather. Put the two together and it is running super rich. Kevin had the right idea dropping the needle one notch and really that's all you can do trail side or on the water in this case. The real fix is a smaller main jet. The needle controls from off idle to about three quarters throttle. The main controls three quarters to wide open. Which is what you use 90 percent of the time on hovercrafts. I would put the needle in the middle position then put the filters back on and re-jet. I have a feeling this is going to be the number one video of 2021, this was just awesome. I couldn't stop smiling.
It get even better if you watch the continuation of that clip where he matter-of-fact instructs Cleetus to just grab the skirt as it passes to make getting back on easier.

Absolutely amazing a Cleetus/Finnegan episode and despite Mike soaking the air filter, being ejected from a hovercraft, and nearly sinking one (admittedly not Finnegan fault) all three hovercrafts made it back to the boat ramp in one piece and all of them were still running until Finnegan ran his out of fuel of course.
I feel like Finn has my luck. First his hovercraft breaks, then he crashes, switches to another one and sinks that one and finally runs out of gas on the boat ramp! Meanwhile everyone else on the lake is just chillin enjoying life

I was lucky enough to save some boaters with my dad when I was younger so I have yet (yet) to do it myself as I now check a million times before going out. I learned from someone else really shitty experiences basically and was also taught not to just sit there on open waters IF you do forget to put it in. lol He was a Coast Guard dad(rip) so it wasn't really a surprise he taught me a lot about the water I guess. Hectic ass boat ramps or too many chiefs is the majority of the reason it slips peoples minds I feel... defiantly a pretty common thing though. My favorite boat we have is one that it doesn't matter if you forget the drain plug or get a hole in it will still float, it has foamed out hull and only sinks enough to get my ankles wet. (I tested it to make sure lol) I'm not even sure why it even has a drain plug tbh... Something I did do however is go out on a jet boat where someone forgot to put a line on after I fixed the engine for them (they re-installed the engine)..... the pump fills the boat up like a damn fire hydrant when running. hahahaha and yes they sunk it very quickly... pretty good luck for me though as I bought the boat dirt cheap on the spot. lol

My favorite boat we have is one that it doesn't matter if you forget the drain plug or get a hole in it will still float, it has foamed out hull and only sinks enough to get my ankles wet. (I tested it to make sure lol) I'm not even sure why it even has a drain plug tbh...
Something I did do however is go out on a jet boat where someone forgot to put a line on after I fixed the engine for them (they re-installed the engine).....
the pump fills the boat up like a damn fire hydrant when running. hahahaha and yes they sunk it very quickly... pretty good luck for me though as I bought the boat dirt cheap on the spot. lol
