Netflix released a very interesting documentary series that goes into detail regarding FIFAs host selection process and gives a broad overview of concepts like sportswashing
Along with these football stadiums, they created all the needed set up for conducting Olympics too. If you visit Qatar, you will understand how they created sports cities and villages.
So many football leagues have had their schedules messed up to accommodate a world cup being played in Christmas season so that the temperature in Qatar is not over 40 degrees. That was one of many reasons to not hold the world cup in Qatar. FIFA has received massive criticism for giving the world cup to Qatar. The IOC has little moral compass but is it willing to have a summer Olympics in Christmas season in Qatar and feel all the criticism that it is going to get from every sporting organization involved in the Olympics about how their schedules are going to be messed up by an Olympics held in Christmas season? And as temperatures in Qatar are expected to increase with climate change Qatar might have to hold the summer Olympics in January to ensure it's sort of cool for the event. Personally I hope that after the absurdity of a world cup in Qatar the IOC and every sporting organization learns that it is really bad PR for sport to hold international events in a country with such a troubled human rights record (though I'm probably being over optimistic).
Strangely enough Qatar is not even a country where sports thrive. Like seriously, no offense but when did a Qatari ever won a medal at the Olympics? Or at least an athlete that came out of that country. They are literally hosting stuff in which they are not known for. Kinda ironic to be honest.
They can't do that cuz China is the 2nd largest economy in the world and they all wanna piece of that Chinese pie. Look at what happened to Nba or Ozil
Qatar should definitely bid for a Winter Olympics next! I would not be surprised if the IOC approved this. There is such a thing as artificial snow I believe. 😊
Saudia Arabia will be host to the Asian wintergames 2028 (not quite sure about the year) in a city which is actually non existing at the moment and the cherry on top are just the geographical and weather conditions. So yeah, they might have a Chance :D
@@mauritzlucht3757 Saudi Arabia can easily purchase a large chunk of the Antarctic ice-shelf and get it towed to the Gulf or Red Sea to lower the ambient temperature in the region to a more comfortable range appropriate for the games (there is an abundant supply of cheap/free labor available in Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Philippines etc. to do this). If this plan causes a global concern about the resulting rise in the earth's atmospheric temperature Saudi Arabia definitely has the money to gift to the world 8 billion or so air-conditioners and the fuel and generators needed to keep every person on earth comfortably cool! 😄🤣
29 March 2022 ﷽ In this dream I see a small hill and that I have to climb on this hill and say the Adzan (calling for prayer). I am also accompanied by some people. As I walk towards this hill, I am confused at first because I have never done this, but I feel that I have been instructed to give Adzan. So in some hesitation I continued to walk towards the hill. When I get to the top of the hill and begin the Adzan. When I begin with ‘Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar’ my Adzan does not sound professional (like the Adhan given in mosques which has a beautiful tone of recitation). But as I continue further in reciting the Adzan, reaching the part Ashadu an La Ilaha Illallah, Ashadu annamu hammadur Rasool Allah’ it continues to become better and professional. When I recite the part ‘Hayyalas Salah Hayyalal Falah’ I do it with a professional tone like in the mosque. Then I see that more religious people beneath the hill start noticing my Adzan and they seem impressed. I finally say ‘Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illAllah’ in a beautiful and professional way, then it comes to my mind that this Adzan ending sounds just the way it was done hundreds of years ago in Makkah, when the first Adzan happened in Makkah. This is a very political criticism, I would have three questions for the critics 1) what is the human right situation in Russia and why did no one had a question regarding last fifa World Cup 2) how many members from a Asian or European company is in fifa committees, is it zero or 1 ,so why not criticised. 3) The rule is France is father and daughter or mother and son can indulge in a relationship, this is not legal in Britain, so will there be a criticism if England host the cup . 4) Do the European consider Asians and Africans as low grade people who cannot have a fan rally .Why did the English/European news paper condemn the fan rally as a paid rally ,isn't it a racism. Moral it is an eye washer to defame the tournament as it take place in middle east which is a headache for the European who missed the big chance

CNN called the FIFA 2022 World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar “controversial.” MSNBC criticized the display of Palestinian flags. New York Times gloated “the party was over” when Qatar lost to Ecuador in the first match. BBC decided to censor the whole show by not even airing it, despite carrying the last World Cup ceremonies live. The pundits that were silent when countries like Russia, France and the U.S. hosted the World Cup found their voice calling out Qatar’s human rights record. I’m not a die hard fan of soccer, nor Qatar for that matter. But I see why the rest of the world’s response was largely positive to yesterday’s program whereas Western media’s reaction was anything but. The double standards and performative, selective moral grandstanding here are of course because Qatar is an Arab, Muslim majority country. This is the first time an Arab, Muslim country has hosted the competition. Their proudly showcasing their ethnic, national and religious identity on the world stage in a much needed message of inclusivity and tolerance flipped the script and changed the narrative on Islam, Muslims and Arabs in the West. That simply doesn’t sit well with some.

"Smaller than Connecticut, Qatar is holding FIFA..." Comparing one of the well known countries to a US state which most of the world has not heard of is such an American thing to do.
Even if the Economist was American, I would argue that many, many more people internationally could point to somewhere on a world map that was within 500 km of Connecticut than of the "well-known" country Qatar, which I would argue few people knew about 2 years ago. Few people could probably even be trusted to differentiate the Persian Gulf from the Red Sea.
The summer or winter Olympics? The winter Olympics in an arid desert as flat as a pancake? Or the summer Olympics with temperatures of 50 Celsius/122 Farenheit?
They spent a fortune to acquire an entertainment property that they don't care about or understand. Hosting soccer games where fans can't drink is going to prove to be mind numbingly unpopular. I'm not sure what kind of positive buzz for their country they are expecting for all this. Anything I've learned about Qatar during this process has made me think less of them. I don't think the Australian Soccer fans will put up with this. This is like amazon acquiring lord of the rings or elon musk buying twitter. It won't end well. I do foresee a lot of British fans watching a soccer game stone cold sober and finally realizing it's kind of boring. If I was there I'd watch the game from my hotel room and leave their dry stadium empty.
Qatar has built and spent so much, not mainly because of the World Cup, but it needs most of this infrastructure to elevate its economy and its services for now and the future. Most of the contractors and builders in this massive, extensive project are Western companies. Europe, the West - are so shamelessly hypocritical that they forget who they are. They forget, overlook: slavery, colonization, racism and how they go about and freely continue to plunder and loot resources of/from other nations; they forget how their major wealth and cities were built by slavery, looting and trodden workers. They forget and overlook how the multitudes of indigenous peoples were annihilated to create some of their so called "democracies". They forget the incredible disparity of the sharing of wealth in their countries. All these, with impunity. For them, they have the right to ban the Niqab, to curtail Muslim activities; they have the right and the privilege of banning and outlawing polygamy (and yet absurdly promote homosexuality). They have no respect or regards for other people's cultures, beliefs and laws. They define, forcefully what is "right" and what is "wrong", and "human rights". Not so long ago, they brutally practiced slavery and built their cities by looting and overworking poor people. Not so long ago, they outlawed homosexuals and homosexuality was a crime - now they say it's "right" and are trying forcefully to dictate that to the rest of the world. The most recent brutal, horrific wars are Western created or executed. Europe and the West are their own enemies. Their arrogance, disrespect and using absurd, senseless rules and laws will be their undoing in the end.
Was it worth spending billions … I’m sure it was for Qatar. It was their money and they can spend however they want. So the rest of the world should shut up and chill. Workers issue is definitely a big issue and should be addressed by Qatar. But a question to all the western countries criticizing …. Was every other country that has hosted FIFA in the past absolutely perfect and free of problems and issues? BIG FAT NO. Every country has internal issues. If the criteria to host is for the country to have to issues, then no country in the world can host the games.
Yes they can spend their money how they want when how they spend their money doesn’t affect other. Do you know how much this WC will and did pollute and emit CO2 ? Yes there’s was maybe worker death in other countries and not as much as Qatar, but that still doesn’t justify the death of those people who died while constructing super giant stadium for 58 days. You have the privilege to sit on your couch and make this comment like me, but try to feel something for the people who died. If we, humans, made mistakes in the past, that doesn’t mean we should remake them now. With this world cup, we should say, and acknowledge we f*cked up. Don’t need to hide it. No need to deviate from the problem too. This WC is problematic and was corrupted from it’s root just to put Qatar on the map. Mission accomplished for them, but mission failed for humanity. Mission accomplished for these rich business man, but mission failed for us poor humans. Mission accomplished for whoever wanted the world cup to happen in Qatar, but mission failed for whoever wanted to see a better alternative. However what is done is done, and we should just solve the problems that will emerge from now on.
Calculation is very clear. The giant companies and countries manipulate FIFA to give Qatar a chance. Then make Qatar agree to spend money and get the all tenders and constructions. Force Qatar to spend 300 billions and earn 150 billions.
The point is not to make money out of all this infrastructure, the point is for people to see "Qatar". gulf countries are trying to be tourist attractions. and its tough when a lot of people have terrible wrong concepts of what the Arab world is. best of wishes to Qatar. I don't know if they are hosting 1 million tourist, but if they are, its a challenge of it own.
Now that people have seen the corruption and backwardness of the country nobody will be enthusiastic about dealing with them. This could prove to be a PR disaster for them.
I thought the highway building was part of the building 2030 plan to modernise the infrastructure up to US standards along with schools, hospitals, drainage and water storage, it hitherto being quite British with roundabouts and modest single carriageway roads...think Jersey but hotter. The airport was part of the development of Qatar Airways as a global airline to rival the incumbents and to capitalise on the favourable time zone for a hub and spoke network...a true projection of soft power, though not original as Abu Dhabi and Dubai were already proving the concept of gulf hubs. To suggest that but for the World Cup none of the infra work would have been done is incorrect, the World Cup was more of the opportunistic win that then put firm timescales around many of the projects and project phasing plans....e.g. the metro had to get done as part of the bid, the airport was already operational in 2015 with additional capacity coming in to service in time for the World Cup, the stadium building had a knock on to require the highway and drainage work to be ready for use as part of the tournament infrastructure...instead of slowing down the builds when the gas price tanked and the blockade sent construction costs through the roof. All part of the plan to transition to a post-hydrocarbon economy...I can't see it working for them, but the Qataris have certainly bet big on giving it all a go...oh, and of course buying lots of real estate in premium western cities just in case the west should forget them.
that is true too, but still we cannot overlook the cost of human lives lost. they would need to change the living and working conditions for their migrant workers in the future if they want to be forgiven by the families of those who have lost their lives and possibly compensate. by seeing what amazing things they have done, it is easy for the Qataris to build decent government housing for migrant workers, money does not seem to be an issue so why not give your workers that help build your nation, modest and decent living spaces
Jealous? No. It's disgust. It is a disproportion thay some are so rich and live in luxury and others are so poor. Not nice. I wish we ALL could live in confort in this planet. But it wont happen. It's not in human nature.
The US has only been a democratic state for 57 years. And the human rights abuses by police and prisons are legend the world over. But the military of the USA is strong so no country will reprimand without consequences.

On the occasion of the talk about human rights and persecution, did you know that today, while we were talking, some officials in Denmark are demanding the separation of residents in residential neighborhoods according to their ethnic origins, and that it prevents the use of human rights slogans in Danish stadiums?!!!!!!
That's fine. They're protecting their country from certain immigrants and sharia law. Prohibiting banners is much different from the human rights abuses that have taken place in Qatar and other Middle Eastern countries, including Israel.

The plan is for world cup to act as a boost to tourism, to cover the giant cost of the cup. This will not work: 1: Most of the golf states have the same plan and are also subsidizing cheaper visits with fossile fuel incomes, which will end in less than 20 years. 2: To cover the cost, Qatar needs high spending tourism, and lots of it. Unfortunately for them, all the negative publicity has made people from richer nations less willing to travel there, not more. In parallel, some people seem to think they can cover the cost by hosting more minor regional games and eventually also an Olympics. This will also not work: 1: Regional football games are peanuts in comparrsion with what Qatar has spent on building overcapacity. 2: the football facilities are nowhere near being able to all host all the different olympics sports. Facilities would have to be built from scratch. 2: Olympics visitor numbers are about 2-3 times that of world cups, they would still have to increase transport and hospitality facilities. 3: The next unassigned summer Olympics is in 2036, meaning that barring small regional football championships, the present overcapacity would have to maintained at a loss for at least 14 years. 4: For decades, no hosting city has made money on the Olympics, Qatar would be no different, they would still lose money hosting that event. Qatar will also most likely never get the Olympics 1: By messing with sponsorship contracts, they have vastly reduced chances of the IOC voting for Qatar as a host nation (and other championships). 2: By Qatar leaving itself open to allegations of corruption (e.g. overprices rights contracts), the IOC face reputational risk if they give the games to Qatar. And the IOC is somewhat challenged on that score already. In conclusion, this is an investment that has gone catastropically wrong.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino has accused the West of "hypocrisy" in its reporting about Qatar's human rights record on the eve of the World Cup. In an extraordinary monologue at a news conference in Doha, Infantino spoke for nearly an hour and made a passionate defence of Qatar and the tournament. The event has been overshadowed by issues in Qatar including deaths of migrant workers and treatment of LGBT people. Switzerland-born Infantino said that European nations should apologise for acts committed in their own histories, rather than focussing on migrant workers' issues in Qatar.

And as temperatures in Qatar are expected to increase with climate change Qatar might have to hold the summer Olympics in January
to ensure it's sort of cool for the event.
Personally I hope that after the absurdity of a world cup in Qatar the IOC and every sporting organization learns that it is really bad PR for sport to hold international events in a country with such a troubled human rights record (though I'm probably being over optimistic).
@@geofflepper3207 give some some reason for your hatred?
Strangely enough Qatar is not even a country where sports thrive. Like seriously, no offense but when did a Qatari ever won a medal at the Olympics? Or at least an athlete that came out of that country. They are literally hosting stuff in which they are not known for. Kinda ironic to be honest.

In this dream I see a small hill and that I have to climb on this hill and say the Adzan (calling for prayer).

Very well summarised
Some people are just jealous that Qatar is so rich.
that is true too, but still we cannot overlook the cost of human lives lost. they would need to change the living and working conditions for their migrant workers in the future if they want to be forgiven by the families of those who have lost their lives and possibly compensate. by seeing what amazing things they have done, it is easy for the Qataris to build decent government housing for migrant workers, money does not seem to be an issue so why not give your workers that help build your nation, modest and decent living spaces

Fun fact: Each concrete pillar has a few dead workers inside.
Fun fact: the west have no right to speak about human rights
The plan is for world cup to act as a boost to tourism, to cover the giant cost of the cup. This will not work:
1: Most of the golf states have the same plan and are also subsidizing cheaper visits with fossile fuel incomes, which will end in less than 20 years.
This will also not work:
1: Regional football games are peanuts in comparrsion with what Qatar has spent on building overcapacity.
Qatar will also most likely never get the Olympics
1: By messing with sponsorship contracts, they have vastly reduced chances of the IOC voting for Qatar as a host nation (and other championships).
2: By Qatar leaving itself open to allegations of corruption (e.g. overprices rights contracts), the IOC face reputational risk if they give the games to Qatar. And the IOC is somewhat challenged on that score already.
In conclusion, this is an investment that has gone catastropically wrong.
Qataris are way smarter than you think they have a vision for their country into the next 200 years let’s see your comments after that 😂
Fifa president Gianni Infantino has accused the West of "hypocrisy" in its reporting about Qatar's human rights record on the eve of the World Cup.
