      I realise this is an old video, but it has some good advice 😁 I also wanted to mention for the "make sure you are having a plateau" section that increasing your muscle mass may also have an effect on your weight, I have been around the same weight (1 or 2 pound either way but more or less the same) for around 5 weeks now however I've gone down a dress size, sounds impossible right 😂, I have actually gained 5% muscle mass in that time in order to have stayed the same weight I must have lost fat as well but just looking at my weight I'd never have known and I assumed I was just plateauing again until I remembered my scales can also measure muscle mass and fat percentage so it's better to keep track of those instead of just relying weight alone. ( If anyone is interested you can pickup those scales fairly cheaply on amazon)

    Another thing I like to do, especially if I have been cutting for a while, usually 12 weeks or more, is to eat at or very slightly above maintenance for a week to give my metabolism time to sort itself out a bit. This will rarely to lead to any more than a pound of weight gain, but can allow you to go back to losing weight again after the week without having to reduce calorie intake or increase activity.
    Obviously there will come a point where one or both of your two tips are necessary, but I prefer to delay that as long as possible. Having once weekly or fortnightly days of eating at maintence can help to slow down any metabolic changes in the first place, which would hopefully avoid reaching a plateau for a little longer, but sometimes a week or longer at or very slightly above maintence is needed to get your metabolism back on track.
    With many of these things it depends how much time you have available, but it is usually better to allow as much time as possible to shed the fat.

      By maintenance do you mean your already calories that you eat at that time or based on your bmr?

    • @Neofolis
      @Neofolis 3 года назад +3

      @@me-sg8im Maintenance just means eating the same number of calories that you burn, i.e. the number of calories that cause your weight to stay the same. This will be above your BMR by whatever number of calories you burn through activity.
      All that said, if you've reached the point where your weight is staying stable, you are essentially eating at maintenance, because the calories required to maintain your weight have decreased. I would just add about 250 calories to my daily consumption for a week, which will be a surplus at the beginning of the week, but, as your metabolism settles is likely to be near maintenance again by the end of the week.
      The following week I would reduce the calories by 250 again and be back in a 250 calorie or near deficit again.
      This won't work indefinitely, there will come a time when calories need to be lowered or activity increased to continue to lose fat, but it will help to counter metabolic changes caused by being in a long term deficit.

  • @AnimusPrime87

    I am currently 209 pounds, down from 235 in March. I started off eating about 2500 calories per day and over the months I steadily reduced daily calories until two or three weeks ago, my target is about 1800. I workout 5 days a week (3 days lifting, 2 days running). I've been losing between 7 and 9 pounds of weight per month. The last month I am now sitting on about 2 pounds lost, primarily because I've been stuck between 208 and 210 for the last two weeks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I remember this happening when I did this years ago. I started at 225, hit 200 pounds and stopped losing weight for several weeks. I gave up and gained all the weight back. I am determined not to give up again and I'm still pushing.
    It's been good so far because I eat modestly well- a bowl of "healthy" cereal like Honey Nut Cheerios or Raisin Bran in the morning, typically a chicken noodle soup for lunch, and plain chicken breast with broccoli and rice for dinner. On workout days I have a protein shake of milk and vanilla protein powder. And I'm pretty regular- I have no qualms about eating the same thing day after day. I rather enjoy the routine. And I'm certainly not starving- I eat my fill and feel satisfied after every meal and have no cravings between. I do not have nor do I want to have any cheat days. Since I started this journey, I deviated from my nutrition twice. Once to get a ridiculous 1500 calorie BBQ bacon cheeseburger, and the second time because we went to a faire and I enjoyed myself a little there, too. The plateau is extremely discouraging considering how rigidly I've been sticking to my plan. But like I said, I won't give up. I absolutely have to get myself back under 200 pounds again while I'm still young, vital, and healthy enough to do it. And the clock is ticking.

I've started from 84 kg. Tracked every single meal. Increased my NEAT by doing 10 000 steps a day, and not using the elevator(I'm living on 8th floor). Also i checked my self on dexa scan and it showed up that my BMR is 1980 calories so with all the activity that I'm doing I decided that to be in caloric deficit i have to consume around 2200 calories. Even though I'm not eating that many calories (sometimes lower 1300-1800, but never higher than 2200) it's easy for me to get the protein number (minimum 160 grams).
    Also I'm doing intermittent fasting 20/4 I'm eating from 17:00 until 21:00
    I've started my diet and increased my training and NEAT exactly 2 week ago, when I was 84 kg. 2 weeks passed and instead of losing a bit I gained a lot 🤯 I don't expect huge weight loss in 30 days. But what's happening right now is not what I expected after two weeks. For many people number on scale doesn't matter as long as they look good in the mirror. In my case numbers really matter. So after 14 days I gained +3 kg. Is it plateau? or I'm doing something wrong?

      I've also been doing intermittent fasting for the last 2 weeks because I hit plateua and couldnt lose weight after doing the same diet and routine for 4 months. And during my fasting i decided to add much more workout and guess what :D i also gained weight 😂 maybe fasting isnt for us. Its good to eat every couple hours even if its small meals/snacks, that keeps our metabolism working well. whereas fasting slows it down because your metabolism doesnt work for hours. so it can get tired by the time we eat and for it to chew down. I hope you've found a solution let me know if you have

    I’m down 41 pounds in 4 and a half months. I went from 376 to 335. I’ve only lost 1 pound in the past 2 weeks. It’s frustrating. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting (20hr fast/4 hour eating window. Exercise 5-6 days a week (3 miles/HIIT Workout videos). My daily intake ranges from 1700 to 2,000 calories with less than 60g of carbs a day, it may be difficult to consume more healthy calories in 4 hour eating window. Sundays are my cheat days . Any suggestions to defeat this plateau? Help

      Your mistake was doing to much cardio, now your body is adjusted and won’t burn as much energy from cardio, you need to do a cheat week where you completely slack off everything, then after a week or two go back to calorie deficit and and MINIMUM CARDIO, remember weight loss comes from the kitchen, use cardio to move past plateaus but not as a basis

      3 hours of cardio is crazy bro, you should have stuck with mapping your exact tgee and decrease calories from there. The key is to manage your macros, get adequate protein to keep muscle mass, and adequate carbs for energy, after that. Just weight lift and interject cardio like once a week

    • @sampeter2714
      @sampeter2714 3 года назад

      It is possible to lose weight by just weight lifting and diet, it’s actually the most proficient way since you are retaining the most amount of your muscle mass, you need to focus on retaining the muscle mass you have now while cutting out junk, aka eat protein and avoid excess calories

      It's not good to have a big calorie deficit! Your body will think it's starving so it'll hold onto fat. Increase your calories and stop exercising for a few days to calm your body down.
      Then focus on maintaining a 500 calorie deficit. Good luck!!

      @@blaqk_soul Hi Ruben,
      I have the same question like you because we both feel or think we hit a weight loss plateau. My maintenance calories for my weight is 1,750. But during my strict diet I only eat 1,000 calories a day including breakfast lunch dinner. So probably 325 calories per meal. When I started to only eat 800 calories a day I begin losing some pounds very quickly. From 80 kg to 75 kg in just two weeks. I believe most of that weight loss was just muscles and water. Now I feel like I hit a weight loss plateau and not losing weight anymore since one week because I begin eating junk and 1,000 calories a day again. Now my plan is to get back on track because quitting is the only way to guarantee failure. We can do this. I believe in you, Ruben.
