I'm afraid this will make me sound so pathetic, but to this day when I'm in group situations sometimes when I say a joke or "funny comment" and nobody pays attention to it, but one person listened and repeats it louder and then everyone in the group laughs thinking it was their joke. Nothing makes me feel smaller and more unseen.

Then i started thinking about how I do that too so now every time in that situation where i say a friends joke louder i always give credit and say “so and so said the joke”. No you're totally right in that suddenly things become weird when we become self aware. I think a good strategy to avoid that type of discomfort is to entirely focus on the other person during conversation. If you make it about wanting to know them and fulfill yourself by learning something new about this other person, life can be so much more beautiful than if we constantly focus on wanting the other person to like us which can only lead to insecurity

this really reminded me of how i am with my best friend, just so openly communicating when something is awkward, constantly being like 'oh why did i say that'. there are very few people i feel comfortable with but being around someone where you can both say something a bit awkward, but then immediately point it out and move on instead of dwelling on in for the rest of the interaction is genuinely so freeing.

@@ewaberchulska I totally understand. It started for me bc of an abusive relationship. It’s been years and it feels like I’ll always be this way. I had to stop therapy cus it was hard for me to go see her. Then it became online and I still can’t be bothered. But I’m sure it would help a lot.

I'm afraid this will make me sound so pathetic, but to this day when I'm in group situations sometimes when I say a joke or "funny comment" and nobody pays attention to it, but one person listened and repeats it louder and then everyone in the group laughs thinking it was their joke. Nothing makes me feel smaller and more unseen.

You aren’t pathetic at all, I totally get this. I realized that usually the people who are saying my jokes louder are doing it because they think the joke is good and should be heard. Then i started thinking about how I do that too so now every time in that situation where i say a friends joke louder i always give credit and say “so and so said the joke”. I feel its such a small and easy thing to implement but makes everyone feel so warm. I hope if i start doing that other people around me will catch on too. Anyways sorry this was rlly random and directed towards anyone reading~

I know you’ve mentioned your insecurities around interacting with others but you are so charmingly awkward and subversive without being uncomfortable to watch at all. This was so perfect. I love her personality and the way she was able to take the banter without being awkward. I hate second hand embarrassment and this didn’t give it to me.
It’s comforting to see someone else’s little communication toxicity’s (whether they’re insecurity driven, hormonal, projection, anxiety etc) that mirror my own, trying to simply exist with another person can be draining especially when most people don’t have the same mental flow of consciousness that comes along side almost viewing myself as a third person watching the conversation. All the moments that you can see drew isn’t eagling over his own communication and body language are so precious, yet the moments he self analysing is bring such relief to know like, man I thought this was just my brain that does this phew.

No you're totally right in that suddenly things become weird when we become self aware. I think a good strategy to avoid that type of discomfort is to entirely focus on the other person during conversation. If you make it about wanting to know them and fulfill yourself by learning something new about this other person, life can be so much more beautiful than if we constantly focus on wanting the other person to like us which can only lead to insecurity

It had nothing to do with her personally, but any large social setting at that time seriously could make me so hardcore uncomfortable my heart can’t take it. I can tell something was wrong at that time and now I’m seeking medical insurance so I can get therapy for this.

Watching this interaction between Drew and Alyx felt like I was watching a video of myself interacting with another person. Drew’s codependency thing of wanting to be reassured and the blunt honesty of that hit home for me 🤣 i feel like this is the first time I’ve watched an interaction on RUclips between friends that felt genuinely real and unscripted.
this really reminded me of how i am with my best friend, just so openly communicating when something is awkward, constantly being like 'oh why did i say that'. there are very few people i feel comfortable with but being around someone where you can both say something a bit awkward, but then immediately point it out and move on instead of dwelling on in for the rest of the interaction is genuinely so freeing.
