- In this video I check out the new Traxxas TRX4MT mini monster trucks! This is a modified version of the TRX4M high trail and features a redesigned frame, four extra GTM shocks, a metal geared servo, big monster truck tires, and some additional cosmetic details. Expect to see size comparisons and speed comparisons with the Losi Mini LMT and FMS FCX24 Smasher. I also install a new aftermarket motor and the speed gear set to see how much extra fun and performance we can get out of the new TRX4MT!

Thanks again for another great overview. I appreciate the comparison you provided between the mini's. TRX4m mini monster truck and Losi LMT mini. I don't have either of those two. I do love my Smasher.
It’s frustrating when a big company has already seen what the competition has done , and has the chance to release a better product or at least a competitive product, and then releases this. I have many Traxxas models , but I’ll pass on this one.
It has that old Tamiya vibe to it. Growing up in the 80s, that's how RC monster trucks (and actual ladder frame, leaf-sprung steel body monster trucks) performed back in the days. It's like a scaled down version of the ancient Tamiya's Clod Buster. It's bouncy, tipsy and slow af. PERFECT!😂 I think the TRX4MT just teleports me back to 1987 which is exactly what I needed LOL.
CLODBUSTER!!!!! That was my dream truck until a buddy got one and we realized sticking to RC10 was much more reliable and faster for tracks
I'll just say I love the Redcat Ascent 18. Recently got done making a video on it. It feels absolutely incredible in hand and gosh what a beautiful truck! Traxxas has every resource they could ever need to knock this out of the park and yet they do this :/
The failsafe your experiencing is due to the amperage draw is greater from a dead stop to full throttle so it cuts out. Your asking to much of the esc. That’s why you roll into it there is power the whole way.

Love the video and the comparisons with the smasher and Losi Mini LMT really shows the difference for what you get and price points. I feel like I’m piggy backing off other people but it is a real shame that they couldn’t have added a faster motor and speed gearing RTR, especially at that price point when you can spend $60 more to get something that will perform so much better or pay less and get something smaller that performs better.
Great review! Try the Mofo Big Block! It's designed for the TRX4m so it should work great. Speed gears are a band-aid, and you sacrifice torque! On my setup I have the FMS FCX24 ESC and radio for more adjustability with trim and the Big Block runs great! 2FM RC had a great video where he changed the ESC with a Redcat Ascent 18 and stock motor and it was faster for $30! Now imagine with the motor upgrade! 👍🏽 (Of course that's the affordable route without going brushless.) Hopefully you'll come up with an update review considering these mods. Thanks.
Fully agree: low budget means Smasher, high budget Losi. But there is no space for the Traxxas….
I ordered one and threw the furitek lizard pro and a mini Godzilla… thing is on another level now
My sons trx4m has a Holmes 66t and speed gears and overdrive f&r diff gears no esc cut out and flipping rips goes like 25 totally uncontrollable
Tell us about the overdrive diff gears, from where? how much faster did that make it? I am trying to make a speed machine for drifting. Tell me about the esc cut off, is that a new esc?

Yeah, they may be a little slow but beautiful looking truck. I just ordered the black F150. I love how it’s got the molded chrome piece down the side versus the Chevy has chrome stickers that are coming off, but I will love them both appreciate the video here watching now 4:18 PM Sunday, May 12.
For scale details this is pretty cool, but if you want full monster truck, you could get the stampede for about the same price, if not cheaper
Only 4 oil filled shocks, the other 4 are spring dampened only

I had the same problem with my Trx4m using the FMS speed motor. Ease into and it goes UNTIL I let the smoke out of the traxxas esc. I’m using Injora radio and mb100 esc and it seems pretty good. Gets hot but it’s faster now.
I was going to say the same thing, I feel like the TRX is def going for the old school vibe. And I’m here for it! The Losi is def a modern monster for sure!
Purposely designed to be different from the Losi or the smashers. So I dont see it as a fail by Traxxas
The lmt mini is definitely a performer and a stunt master. They nailed it… Where the Traxxas is more of a show queen… all for looks. Like a shelf sitter…

so, by the time the buyer fixes these issues, you've already surpassed the cost of the mini losi. what a shame. by this point in rc, we should be getting brushless in rtrs now considering how late a company comes into a specific niche and knowing what all its competitors are like
After tinkering with my 4mt for a while i just dont think it needs extra dampening but the extra springs keep torque twist in check

Yeah, I love to have the sun of the digger also the TRX4mt will never compete to the mini LMT but I love the looks of the TRX4MT still waiting on mine the black F150 they said late May

Kinda a bummer that it's so weak. Traxxas could have easily included the speed gears standard, although that doesn't really provide a complete fix. And the 2nd shocks aren't even oil filled. Good review though!

Yes I will. I started a series for the scx24 JLU but I became so satisfied with it quickly! I could continue it or start something different. The power wagon would be a fun project
this car really needs more speed and power.

If your budget allows, I would go with a higher end chassis kit. The Mazz cheat code or lgrp comp kit are really amazingly well built. Mofo is incredible for the money though
Losi MINI is too fast and you break stuff really fast. The 4MT is too slow but seems more durable. The Smasher seems like the sweet spot but also I have broke stuff on mine. Now I have $150 in mods on the 4MT and it seems perfect but at what cost? Lightly modded LMT mini?
I'd traxxas late to the party, fms had had a monster truck for a while.
I think it's a miss. It's not much more for a 1/10 bigfoot in the traxxas website I saw. Doesn't seem like good marketing or value

That way for a reason. Doesn't need all 8 shocks to have oil. Upgraded mine but stiffer feeling. Stock was great

I mean… it can be made great with the right mods but just disappointing it is how it is right out of the box. Traxxas fanbois will eat this up but I think it will be a flop overall generally speaking.
Complete fail by Traxxas imo. They saw what Losi came out with in the 1/18 monster truck and they released that!? Sad

The Losi is just ridiculously better. So is the FMS Max Smasher. The Traxxas is clearly the worst in this genre of truck.

Only 4. 8 would be super overdamped. It’s honestly a little over spring as is.
