It was the Incredible planning and engineering of the structure itself that drew me in before the beauty and functionality captivated me. Europe has already developed and many of European Cities already more than 500 and some even 1000+ years compared to many Cities in Asia, Cities like KL just been established as tin mining towns in the end of 19 century and just rapidly developed in the 1990s. So many of these new cities in Asia have the luxury to build anything they want and what is the problem with you?

Fell in love with Kuala lumpur a few years back. Such a nice pleasant surprise, the sky line is stunning! Especially with a infinity pool view . Always find high rise living to be wild. Also very much a walkable city with vast public transport...love it
@@baharm65yup agreed on the "walkable" part. The transit has been steadily improving, and now they are wip making a new circle line to connect all the transit lines. Very extensive metro system. But unless you live and work close by to a station, you're out of luck. last mile connectivity is quite bad, and with the awkward placement of some stations (bad location in the middle of highways/nowhere for example), sometimes you feel like the planners were not thinking of convenience for passengers but rather "wheres the easiest and cheapest place to plop down this station, I need to get this project done. the passengers will figure out a way to get here thats their problem lah"
I'm no fan of skyscrapers but I have great admiration for the construction workers who work at those ridiculous heights. You wouldn't get me up there for love nor money.
Had the chance to visit Kuala Lumpur around 3 months ago, and my hotel's view was the Petronas towers, but seeing the Merdeka 118 even from afar took my breath away, because it was the tallest thing I've ever seen in my life... Incredible...

went there march of this year, was amazed at how different it is to burj khalifa, i primarily went to KL for it, definitely didn't disappoint, i would absolutely recommend people coming to KL and seeing this beast.

You can go up the spire here (I'm not 100% how far up the observation stairwell is) but one could also argue this tower's roof is sub-500 meters and tower ends at 680 so that's almost 27% unoccupied as well). It's nice to appreciate these towers regardless of the classification, though!
As a Malaysian, i'm tremendously proud to have this new iconic skyscraper. It resembles us Malaysians that aims to reach a level higher than ever before, in economy, technology, city developments, education and healthcare. as much as I love space elevators, we simply dont have the physics to build it. Actually we have the physics, and the material, but fabricating the materials needed would cost more than the entire world country profits in a decade. not to mention the construction and the maintenance

As an Australian (like your elevator bloke) KL is much closer to home than either Shanghai or Dubai, and in a Commonwealth country too which tends to give us a language in common, so I'm jazzed at the idea of visiting my megatall there. The setting too is rather pretty, surrounded by jungle-covered hills, and while I'd seen that back in 2011 from the KL Tower which you showed, the view should be all the more godlike from up there!
Excellent presentation and analysis. We are in the midst of moving to Malaysia via MM2H and we have travelled to many others countries on your list. We just finished our first week in Penang and my wife and 95 year-old mother-in-law were blown away with Malaysia and its people. I worked in Singapore and Malaysia over 30 years ago so the prevalence of English, value for your money and kindness of the Malaysians was not a complete surprise and I fell in love with the country all over again.

I think Merdeka 118 is a stunning piece of architecture and to see it in such detail and hear some of the story and design behind it really makes this so good and well worth your trip!

And no there is no difference between Burj Khalifa’s crown or Merdeka 118’s spire, they are just different architectural choices which fit each tower’s design and aspirations.
While that is true it does make a huge difference how it is implemented. Burj Khalifas spire is very well integrated into the design, as well as Shanghai Towers architectural top. On Merdeka it is blatantly obvious stuck up there to catch some records. Same goes for One World Trade Center and my personal nemesis Varso Tower. It is just very low effort to get those numbers as cheap as possible.
It's always the same logic of "highest usable floor" with them. So, should every single rotunda exclude the dome? Should every mosque exclude the dome? Should every church exclude the spire too? It's a pretty nonsense standard if you put it into a broader architectural context. And in an even wider context, should we measure the tallest mountain by its highest point or the highest point accessible to humans? Same with the deepest point on Earth. Whether or not it's accessible doesn't change that it's tall.
Happy for you that you made it to the rooftop. I conquered my fear of heights on Burj Khalifa a few weeks ago. :) My goodness that glass elevator on the outside o.O. Similar elevator system as the Burj has.

My apartment faces 118 from the lift shaft side, incredible to see the building from so close. But what is frightening is how high it appears from my building, my building is a 52 floor, 230m building, and Merdeka 118 still pales down on you!

I don’t care for the Burj Khalifa spire, I don’t care for the Wilshire grand spire in Los Angeles, and nor do I care for the one World Trade Center spire call them what they are. Looks beautiful especially given the darker blue glass used that will be better for migratory birds
If Wikipedia is accurate this building will have a taller observatory than the Burj Khalifa, which I assume is just because the Burj Khalifa has floors above the observatory that are not accessible to the public (mechanical and communication).
You're right, there are two observation decks in this building. One is inside the building, and the other is in the spire. There are no elevators in the spire, so you have to climb a set of stairs that are 12 stories high.

Yeah, I don't count spires as part of the height. It's "tallest building", NOT TALLEST SPIRE. So the height should stop where the spire begin. Edit -- just remember. The spire are there for lightning purposes. To safely discharge it or something. Remember some construction video saying something about it.
I wasn't a fan initially, diverting much needed investment into vanity project like this is just the last thing Malaysia need. Now that it is completed, all I want is for the tower to be a success.

Fantastic work guys! It's great to see this one finally release and it was so worth it. Excellent production and I love the 3D visualisations. I think Merdeka 118 is a stunning piece of architecture and to see it in such detail and hear some of the story and design behind it really makes this so good and well worth your trip!

😂 People who complain about the spire conveniently forgetting that Burj Khalifa’s vanity height is 244 meters or 29% of the building’s total height, i.e the scale is even worse than Merdeka 118..
And no there is no difference between Burj Khalifa’s crown or Merdeka 118’s spire, they are just different architectural choices which fit each tower’s design and aspirations.
While that is true it does make a huge difference how it is implemented. Burj Khalifas spire is very well integrated into the design, as well as Shanghai Towers architectural top. On Merdeka it is blatantly obvious stuck up there to catch some records. Same goes for One World Trade Center and my personal nemesis Varso Tower. It is just very low effort to get those numbers as cheap as possible.
I don't care either way but I do find that the Burj Khalifa's spire looks like it's part of the building. This one looks tacked on.

It's always the same logic of "highest usable floor" with them. So, should every single rotunda exclude the dome? Should every mosque exclude the dome? Should every church exclude the spire too? It's a pretty nonsense standard if you put it into a broader architectural context.
And in an even wider context, should we measure the tallest mountain by its highest point or the highest point accessible to humans? Same with the deepest point on Earth. Whether or not it's accessible doesn't change that it's tall.

What a wonderful video. What an amazing Tower, PNB Merdeka 118, KL. If I'm not mistaken, the Petronas Twin Towers were the first in the world to use a double decker elevator system by the manufacturer, Otis.
i still remember when the first time i watch this channel few years ago and they are still new, i commented to one of their video that in Malaysia have another skyscrapper is under construction and it will be the second tallest building in the world.

My apartment faces 118 from the lift shaft side, incredible to see the building from so close. But what is frightening is how high it appears from my building, my building is a 52 floor, 230m building, and Merdeka 118 still pales down on you!

0:03 I just want to say right off the bat I really hate architects putting these stupid spires on and being allowed to say look how tall my building is. Spires should not be included in building height, they are nothing more than decorative antennas.

I don’t care for the Burj Khalifa spire, I don’t care for the Wilshire grand spire in Los Angeles, and nor do I care for the one World Trade Center spire call them what they are. They are fucking antennas. And they should not be added to building height. If you want an 800 m tall building build the roof to 800 m otherwise piss off.
it's construction is just incredible, my primary school is just right beside it across the street and I watched it get taller every day. An engineering marvel

Thank you… I am fascinated by skyscrapers since childhood and aside from my barbies, loved to build entire skylines with paper or Lego but sadly never turned into an architect.. wish we had one like this in Paris. Looks beautiful especially given the darker blue glass used that will be better for migratory birds

If Wikipedia is accurate this building will have a taller observatory than the Burj Khalifa, which I assume is just because the Burj Khalifa has floors above the observatory that are not accessible to the public (mechanical and communication).
You're right, there are two observation decks in this building. One is inside the building, and the other is in the spire. There are no elevators in the spire, so you have to climb a set of stairs that are 12 stories high.

Yeah, I don't count spires as part of the height. It's "tallest building", NOT TALLEST SPIRE. So the height should stop where the spire begin.
Edit -- just remember. The spire are there for lightning purposes. To safely discharge it or something. Remember some construction video saying something about it.

I wasn't a fan initially, diverting much needed investment into vanity project like this is just the last thing Malaysia need. Now that it is completed, all I want is for the tower to be a success.

A private stakeholder would not spend in this manner but would rather aim to extract as much dividend or cash from the company as possible. What good is a government-owned company if it doesn't benefit socialism? it might as well become capitalist.

However, this 1.8billion USD tower only has potential to benefit Malaysian indirectly, instead if they invested the same amount into Malaysian economy- through funding, investment or loan- the impact is immediate. Therefore, this landmark tower is contradictory to their mandate. ie: approximately 7.92billion RM wasted.
