You know I have been watching journal tutorials for a long time. I watch them because you can learn about so many different products, techniques and of course just get great inspiration. This is the first time I have ever sat and watched one and got that little light bulb above my head say AHA this is why people journal. For once I am actually inspired to make an art journal, it may or may not have words in it I don't know yet but I think it will have a little bit of everything I have learned in my journeys. This time I can say thank-you to someone for the inspiration to create the very thing the video is about, and not just the techniques. Thank-you and have a very lovely day!!

I loved watching your video and you made me laugh which is always fun.
You reminded me of what I used to do as a child. I made books like this. (wish I still had them)
I still save and tear out elements with the "I could do something with these" mentality. You have inspired me to be mindful of the "arty perfectionist" who gets in the way of just having fun, gluing and painting!

A kindred spirit!!! This is exactly how I "journal"...I don't know what it is about cutting up one book/magazine to create another one, but it is so much cheaper than therapy!! It is SO STINKIN' FUN!!!!! I have about 6 journals going at one time...I have recently started creating small mini journals. I find alot of images that I like that are small/tiny and sometimes can get lost on a larger page, so I have really been enjoying my mini journals for all the smaller images I collect. And now, I am using old 3 ring binder cookbooks or gardening books to make journals. (stolen from the "rebookery" channel...check her out if you have never watched her...amazing stuff over there!) It is one way to solve the "use both sides of the page" dilemma.

this was so eye-opening to me. I'd never thought of or seen anyone just paint over parts of a magazine image that was unwanted. How many possibilities that opens up. And I thought I was GOOD at looking outside the box. Been needing something to loosen me up so I can have more fun with the process. I have just been fussing and worrying too much, I can see that. Others talk about it, but you SHOWED me here. Thank you very much.

This is great, I love your process. I do art journaling, but a lot of the stuff I do doesn’t have a plan or a reason. I just love getting in the paint, ink and texture paste and whatever stuff I can get my hands on. People ask me, now what are you going to do with it? I say, I already did it. The fun of doing it was the whole idea. I don’t even like to show my stuff to people because they always say, why don’t you make something to hang on the wall? That’s not what it’s for. It’s therapeutic and enjoyable to just mess around with stuff. The minute I “try” to make something for a reason, I think too much and it ruins it for me. Thanks for the ideas! Now to go to my paper stash and start pulling some double sided paper apart! Great tip,

I love watching you Journal for no reason! I have tried doing it with a magazine and it just turned into a slippery pile of wet paint pages. I even tried wax paper in between. Not sexy. Thanks for the inspiration!!😊

Just LOVE this concept, I too suffer from art journal complete perfection silliness. And forget that making paint papers or gluing is something I want to do or can do and yet I feel like it's not enough, what b.s. is that, doh! This reminds me to just do what gives me joy! Perhaps a monthly/or seasonal video butt kicking reminder that we all need to just chill out and PLAY SIMPLE & with joy. You could be the no reason, just do it before I have to kick your hinny people, lady that saves us from ourselves. You know, just to keep us all in the vibe of just have fun!! lol 😘💜😘

Yeah, I second that! Do it for no purpose other than you feel like it and makes you feel good -- finished pieces have their own intrinsic meaning. That meaning is not my focus as I do art. The results speak for themselves. I receive the joy in playing -- adult play! Fun, fun!

This is just what I needed. I've been paralyzed with the prospect of starting a journal page because I don't know what it needs to look like completely. But if I can just start with one or two layers and then wait until I stumble across the right thing to add it will take all that pressure off. Thank you so much!

Thanks Shannon! I enjoyed watching your process. I'm afraid I jump around a bit from journal to journal. I do regular mixed media journaling, but have really enjoyed more glue books lately! Really appreciate seeing that you can separate the card stock papers! Duh ... giggle.

I think on the journal you last showed, the front cover, looks like Little Red Riding Hood is going for her walk through the woods! :-)

Shannon ... OMG!! I LOVED watching your video. I laughed so hard a couple of times, talked to you a few times, and agreed with you often ... out LOUD!!! I need to watch this frequently, as it gives me permission to JUST get started ... anywhere. I get very entangled with the perfection of it all and your video totally relaxed me. Thank YOU! I actually had to stop the video to tell you all this. Heading into the kitchen for some tea and looking forward to finishing and looking at more. Thanks again ... Penny
