Shannon, I don't know if you already use this tip but I thought you would have plenty on hand....I use the sticky part of return envelopes as free Washi type tape! I use leftover paints or inks,etc...then moisten the glue and stick it down.They can be cut into various sizes as well. I love all your thrifty ideas for arting,THANK YOU! Triz from Bama!
Aloha Shannon, started watching this video and had to pause at 24 minutes because an idea/storage solution occurred after you talked about the love-hate of 12x12 paper :) I love it because of the real estate, beautiful designs but it really has limitations that you clearly mentioned. Yes, 8 1/2x11 is so much more cooperative for so many applications! So I have multiple 12x12 albums I will never use and large layouts intimidate me and my idea was to fill the page protectors with my alphabet stickers. 2 Thickers sheets fit wonderfully side by side and I tuck in the label to the back. Woo Hoo! I have been trying to use my 3 ring binders with baseball card (pocket letter) protectors and regular sheet protectors to sort many little tags, embellishments, journaling cards, etc. Also your use of the sewing machine has opened up a whole new world of possibilities! That is GREAT! Will finish watching the video :) Mahalo, chiyo

Watching you recognize where each piece of scrap came from reminds me how much i love my scraps. Like you say sometimes you just have to go through them just to enjoy them. I think its amazing that we can name almost every piece we touch and rem where it was from. But find it difficult to rem who we received all our happy mail pieces from. I think it happens because we remember ripping them up, or deciding where to put it, or a flash of memory about how we might use it when we first see it. I have some happy mail that isnt signed and is so wonderful but cannot rem who mailed them to me. I used to keep pics of them all on my computer so i could look back, but most vanished on failed drives, etc. I have a star that has hung on my cupboard knob since the day i received it. every single time my eye catches it i am happy, but i cant rem who mailed it to me.
I adore your videos, been watching them over and over again lots of times, always excited for new content. There is something that made me wonder, wanted to give you some info. I hope you're not using Splenda anymore. Really bad product. It is made only with Dextrose, Maltodextrin and Sucrose that raise insulin up through the roof and on top of that is GMO. The Glycemic Index (GI) is a relative ranking of carbohydrate in foods according to how they affect blood glucose levels. Maltodextrin is a white powder made from corn, rice, potato starch, or wheat, highly processed. Glycemic Index of Maltodextrin is 110. Regular table sugar or Sucrose has Glycemic Index of 65. Dextrose, or corn sugar, is made from corn starch and added to hundreds of foods. Dextrose quickly raise blood glucose levels. Glycemic Index of Dextrose is 100. Dextrose only, may lead to weight gain, diabetes and heart disease. Maltodextrin and Dextrose are highly processed foods, both have very negative effect on our health and especially on hormones. Just trying to give some amazing information, maybe that is something that interests you or might help someone that you know. If you need sugar for anything, get sugar alcohols as Erythritol which has Glycemic Index of 1 or Stevia (the one without any dextrose and maltodextrin) that is natural sweetener and Glycemic Index of 0. You can even grow Stevia plant on your garden or inside if you wish. Stevia does not effect your insulin. They are not expensive at all and really make a significant change on your health. I know no one in crafting world is talking about health information like so, but I do care a lot about anyone, especially those that doesn't have the right information to help themselves to be healthy and feel really good. Just pointing out what mainstream don't want you to know, they don't care for people, just money. Hope this info gives you some heads up :) Take care
p.s. That's my favorite stitch for finishing my quilt bindings! I've always called it multiple zigzag stitch. Thank you for the one hour of set up, your stitching was perfect!
Just a note to say. When sewing on paper with your sewing machine, it does dull your needle. So if you go to sew something else with fabric change that needle and save it until next time sewing paper.
Love these Shannon! I don't use scrap book papers or digital kits so mist ofl my handmade papers tend to be scrapbox papers; except I call mine sCRAPbox papers lol. There is a super dooper quick way to sew those strips. I can do a little video to show you, if you want? 😄💚💜
I made some scrapbox papers, underestimated how strong and stiff they would be (it is difficult for me to fold or sew them one-handed) BUT I am loving them for journal tags.
I love the stitched art weird do allies ... one suggestion. When you trim the threads, pull it so when you cut the scissors dont Rambo into the plastic and hack it up. Even tho the Baby Loc is dead to you, it still deserves to be treated with some tlc. This is first thing I teach with sewing basics. The angle worked out awesome. Shannon just so you know if you put the needle thread under your presser foot to begin with you will not get caught up on it. love this.I glue my scraps into a sketch book, just cus it makes me happy.
Great tip! With that, take the top thread and pull down between the sewing foot little feet then pull both threads down and back. I sometimes hold my threads back until I get a couple stitches in.
Several years ago (okay, many years ago) when the whole homemade card thing was just starting to catch on, I saw to neat segments on embellishing cards and envelopes using your sewing machine. They kind of got stuck in some little back corner of my head until I was watching your video and voila! they unstuck, Yea! So I thought I would share them with you. 1. You take card stock or envelopes that you want to pretty up without adding any bulk. On your sewing machine, decide which stitch you are going to use and set it up but DO NOT put thread in the machine. Run the card edges (or the flap edge of the envelope through your sewing machine just like you were sewing it. The needle will create a pretty lace like pattern along the edge. 2. For the second one you will need card stock and lace that can be gathered after it is sown. You will also need to draw an outline on the card (heart, circle, square, etc.) Following the outline you have drawn, sew down the edge of the lace that isn't to be gathered so that the lace is laying inside the outline. Holding down one end of the gathering thread, gently pull it so that it gathers in little pleats and folds following the outline. These are very pretty and no two look exactly alike. I have drawers and drawers full of painty scraps and I am going to make some cards as I think they will look gorgeous. Oh no, I totally understand the sewing machine terrors. I honestly don't know how to sew but I can usually watch a video and do what they do as long as the project is simple and involves straight lines only.

You could add notebook tablet's to the inside of the scrap books that you have made . Then you could give them out at Christmas time or to family or friend's for their birthday's .... :) Just a thought that came across my mind and just wanted to share it with you ... :)

Was watching some of your videos today.....I so enjoy your fun instructive ideas and techniques! I came across one from Bikes, Barbecue and Blues.....do you live in the area? I live in Bella Vista.
I keep everything neatly organized and I use it when I'm inspired to do so. I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating and never get hung up on the usefulness of what I'm making.
The first time I made a scrapbook I was in my teens and I was crazy about Davy Jones with the monkeys so basically it was Davy Jones scrapbook and I use construction paper never heard of scrapbooking paper in fact never even heard of scrapbooking. Then I decided I wanted to do something different a few years ago with the family album so I took pictures out and redid the page and try to get the family all together you know my sisters and her family my brother and his family and I used Pages out of magazine that's the only thing I had so basically if it was paper and it came out of a magazine or a book or whatever I used. And actually it turned out pretty good well lo and behold I don't even remember where I found out or how I found out this is actually had a name and it's called scrapbooking and they actually sold paper for it because it need to be acid-free so it didn't ruin your pictures. So I decided okay I'm going to do this over I'm going to do it right so I make sure my paper and the glue everything was hunky-dory went to Michaels went to Jo-Ann's is like I like scrapbooking paper and stuff that you use for scrapbooking and we actually had a mother and daughter on scrapbook place down the street from us on the highway and yeah I it just you know we were first name basis seriously. I think that's when I found out about Tim Holtz and Graphic 45 yeah it just is like oh for a person that likes vintage yeah that that that was that was the banana split with three different flavors of ice cream three different flavors of your sauce on it and a big old bunch of whipped cream and a cherry not huh yeah that that was good. And I made a small journal for a friend of mine and I got a bunch of magazines from where I work because he weren't being used they were brought in by the activities director and that's why she brought men to use them for stuff and then it wasn't getting used and I got permission to take magazines and one of the first magazines that I took pictures out of and used was a Victorian Christmas Magazine oh oh my goodness! And did that scratch my vintage i t c h oh boy in a big way! But something else is she had brought in was wallpaper books that you look through to pick out your wallpaper yeah brought home one or two of those of those and one of them after the activity director let me have it because she thought she'd use it but they didn't it had Thomas Kinkade wallpaper his pictures were on wallpaper hello! anyways I'm I'm writing a book here sorry but I get so excited about this stuff right now I'm making mostly card so I also get my e m p h e r m a from magazines and I put it on thin cardstock so is kind of same consistency or just use the magazine pictures like they are. but what I was going to say I made a journal for a friend of mine with wallpaper samples I need it I mean the pages in it I don't remember use anything else but wallpaper maybe I did but I don't remember but the in femoral was stuff that I bought stuff that I made I got these one things that was vintage pictures of old-fashioned stuff like a scooter a car a wagon and different stuff like that but it was like kids toys that was fun and it just it just really got my juices going. and I had to fix it where I had something on the outside to close it and I put the dangly things on it like I've seen people do. It was a surprise for my friend and I had the best time in the world making it and so far is the only one that I made like that I have done an altered book and I can't remember what else I've done I've done some journals that I just use myself for like we used to use Diaries but I have like recipes diet tips anything that I want to put down some place that I'm going to know where it is I put it in that but one like hers I haven't made another one and it has been a blessing God has blessed us with talent and gifts and the knee part of it is it's not something that we keep for just us we get to share with other people and I don't know which is more fun the making it or the given them! thank you for listening to me rattle on but yeah it was good seeing and hearing what you're doing thank you for sharing.
Glue! I love to glue stuff! This is such fun. Thanks for sharing this AND for filming the sewing part👍🏻. I have over 40 of those 12 x 12 scrapbook pads with tons of designs I’m not wild about let alone all the junk mail & scraps. I’m going to have a blast with your inspiring ideas! I don’t know how to sew but can do a straight line. I have my mom’s very old Singer sewing machine like from 1950. I wonder if it has that joining foot. Will a regular zigzag stitch work to join the papers?
Oh my goodness Shannon, that's exactly what I say about Babylock; great machine, HORRIBLE customer service. Here in Canada it's really bad, they don't even have a 1-800 number you can call. Good luck getting them to honor their warranties too. I don't care how nice my machine is, I will NEVER buy another Babylock.
Girl, I hear ya. I went round and round with them on a warranty issue which finally got resolved after I got ahold of one of the VP's cell phone numbers. Heh :)

You will also need to draw an outline on the card (heart, circle, square, etc.) Following the outline you have drawn, sew down the edge of the lace that isn't to be gathered so that the lace is laying inside the outline. Holding down one end of the gathering thread, gently pull it so that it gathers in little pleats and folds following the outline. These are very pretty and no two look exactly alike.

I love all the projects you showed. Those journals at the beginning are gorgeous, and I love your scrapped greetings cards too. I have drawers and drawers full of painty scraps and I am going to make some cards as I think they will look gorgeous. I need to get my act together as far as the sewing machine is concerned though - it terrifies me! Ridiculous I know!
Oh no, I totally understand the sewing machine terrors. I honestly don't know how to sew but I can usually watch a video and do what they do as long as the project is simple and involves straight lines only.

You could add notebook tablet's to the inside of the scrap books that you have made . Then you could give them out at Christmas time or to family or friend's for their birthday's .... :) Just a thought that came across my mind and just wanted to share it with you ... :)

I keep everything neatly organized and I use it when I'm inspired to do so. I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating and never get hung up on the usefulness of what I'm making.

The first time I made a scrapbook I was in my teens and I was crazy about Davy Jones with the monkeys so basically it was Davy Jones scrapbook and I use construction paper never heard of scrapbooking paper in fact never even heard of scrapbooking. Then I decided I wanted to do something different a few years ago with the family album so I took pictures out and redid the page and try to get the family all together you know my sisters and her family my brother and his family and I used Pages out of magazine that's the only thing I had so basically if it was paper and it came out of a magazine or a book or whatever I used. And actually it turned out pretty good well lo and behold I don't even remember where I found out or how I found out this is actually had a name and it's called scrapbooking and they actually sold paper for it because it need to be acid-free so it didn't ruin your pictures. So I decided okay I'm going to do this over I'm going to do it right so I make sure my paper and the glue everything was hunky-dory went to Michaels went to Jo-Ann's is like I like scrapbooking paper and stuff that you use for scrapbooking and we actually had a mother and daughter on scrapbook place down the street from us on the highway and yeah I it just you know we were first name basis seriously. I think that's when I found out about Tim Holtz and Graphic 45 yeah it just is like oh for a person that likes vintage yeah that that that was that was the banana split with three different flavors of ice cream three different flavors of your sauce on it and a big old bunch of whipped cream and a cherry not huh yeah that that was good. And I made a small journal for a friend of mine and I got a bunch of magazines from where I work because he weren't being used they were brought in by the activities director and that's why she brought men to use them for stuff and then it wasn't getting used and I got permission to take magazines and one of the first magazines that I took pictures out of and used was a Victorian Christmas Magazine oh oh my goodness! And did that scratch my vintage i t c h oh boy in a big way! But something else is she had brought in was wallpaper books that you look through to pick out your wallpaper yeah brought home one or two of those of those and one of them after the activity director let me have it because she thought she'd use it but they didn't it had Thomas Kinkade wallpaper his pictures were on wallpaper hello! anyways I'm I'm writing a book here sorry but I get so excited about this stuff right now I'm making mostly card so I also get my e m p h e r m a from magazines and I put it on thin cardstock so is kind of same consistency or just use the magazine pictures like they are. but what I was going to say I made a journal for a friend of mine with wallpaper samples I need it I mean the pages in it I don't remember use anything else but wallpaper maybe I did but I don't remember but the in femoral was stuff that I bought stuff that I made I got these one things that was vintage pictures of old-fashioned stuff like a scooter a car a wagon and different stuff like that but it was like kids toys that was fun and it just it just really got my juices going. and I had to fix it where I had something on the outside to close it and I put the dangly things on it like I've seen people do. It was a surprise for my friend and I had the best time in the world making it and so far is the only one that I made like that I have done an altered book and I can't remember what else I've done I've done some journals that I just use myself for like we used to use Diaries but I have like recipes diet tips anything that I want to put down some place that I'm going to know where it is I put it in that but one like hers I haven't made another one and it has been a blessing God has blessed us with talent and gifts and the knee part of it is it's not something that we keep for just us we get to share with other people and I don't know which is more fun the making it or the given them! thank you for listening to me rattle on but yeah it was good seeing and hearing what you're doing thank you for sharing.

Glue! I love to glue stuff! This is such fun. Thanks for sharing this AND for filming the sewing part👍🏻. I have over 40 of those 12 x 12 scrapbook pads with tons of designs I’m not wild about let alone all the junk mail & scraps. I’m going to have a blast with your inspiring ideas! I don’t know how to sew but can do a straight line. I have my mom’s very old Singer sewing machine like from 1950. I wonder if it has that joining foot. Will a regular zigzag stitch work to join the papers?
The zigzag stitch will join the papers but they won't be as bendy back and forth like I showed. Still...use what you've got and see what happens!
My machine calls the stitch "feather and fan" - my machine is about 35 years old ...It's a stitch for mending tears, so would also work.

I'm trying mine on deli paper.....although I am wondering if the glue will not adhere to the backing paper and the entire thing will come apart?
Deli paper isn't as stick-resistant as waxed paper or parchment so it might work....try it and see what happens!
Oh my goodness Shannon, that's exactly what I say about Babylock; great machine, HORRIBLE customer service. Here in Canada it's really bad, they don't even have a 1-800 number you can call. Good luck getting them to honor their warranties too. I don't care how nice my machine is, I will NEVER buy another Babylock.
Girl, I hear ya. I went round and round with them on a warranty issue which finally got resolved after I got ahold of one of the VP's cell phone numbers. Heh :)
