IC7100 A to Z #18 Weather Radio Functions

Did you know that the IC-7100 has NOAA weather radio receive functions pre-programmed into it? It also has a weather alert feature that will automatically switch to the weather radio when any hazardous weather alert is broadcast. In this video we take a look at those features and how to use them.

I can confirm that the weather option is not available on my UK version of the 7100. A nice option, but it would need to be "local" weather rather than DX WX!

I see a vicious rumor on the Internet recently that the Japanese dealers are being told the 7100 is being discontinued. Have you heard if they’re coming out with a new version or is it just going away?

Hi David. I have not seen those rumors. The IC-7100 was introduced in 2012. So, 10 years old now. So, wouldn’t be too surprised to see it get discontinued. At 10 years old, it wouldn’t be surprising if some components in the radio are discontinued and no longer available. I don’t have any inside information, but I certainly hope that they are planning some type of similar/equivalent rig to replace it if it is discontinued.
