I have an '06 Yazoo Kees (no longer made but an excellent machine) with 556 hours. Just performed this o-ring replacement for the second time in 17 years. Both times, the leaking issue was eliminated. Thanks for the video...and the music did not bother me.
Tonight I just re-built mine with new filter and O-rings because of this awesome video. I was able to do the work easily and it worked perfectly. Thank you. I'm re-filling the oil now waiting to see if it drains down easily.
I noticed you only replaced the o-ring and didn't put on the new cover plate. Any particular reason why? The new cover plates are completely different in shape and heavier, The new ones have a round side one of the bolts goes in and the other side is flat. On my mower one side has the round side facing the outside and the other side has the flat side facing the outside. I marked my old ones before I removed them so I could examine them and look for the differences. One side is a little more narrow in size so you have to pay close attention installing the new ones. Anyone else have the same issue with the new plates not mounting the same way on their mower? Also my kit didn't come with a new gear. It only came with an o-ring, cover plate and 2 bolts. @@joeycarolfi9831 I just put it back on the way it came off. If you're not sure try it one way and if. It doesn't work turn it 180 degrees. You have a 50/50 canch of getting it right the first time. Good luck.
Those ZT Hydro Gear Drives all leak from the charge pump, it's because the aluminum charge pump covers all warp at around 300 hours. the new charge pumps are cast iron and will not warp. I replaced mine on my Bad Boy at 300 hours and at 425 hours, the left Hydro gear stopped working, So I bought a 2020 Hustler X One a few weeks ago. It has parker Hydro's, not those crappy Hydro Gear ZT's.
Thanks for sharing as my new exmark radius with the z2800 and only 25 hrs. is leaking already in the same spot as yours was . Now I know why , I suppose the warranty may cover mine .

Hello. You said the other drive leaked. Where did it leak? And how did you fix it? I have a left drive that leaks. I've just been putting in oil in reservoir to refill. It's a back up mower but ill need to fix it someday. It's a Fastrak 2800 drive. Thanks
Chris, Good Morning, Love your Video, question, I just bought a 2009 Fastrac HD if I remove the cover on this unit, is there small parts that will come out, mine is leaking a little, Note the unit only has 400 hrs and the hyd oil or 50W was filthy black, change with new filter and oil will do again after i run it 20 hrs. Thanks, Paul. Depends on the model hydro-gear you have . there are some that have sone fiddly bits that gravity may release when you remove the cover. the 3000, i think.... but if your hustler has the 3100 you're good to go. no parts explosion when you remove the cover.
Hi, I have a Ferris 400s and it has ZT3100 hydro deives, not sure if this is a problem but if I jack the drive wheels up and engage the bypass levers the left wheel still turns when I move the main levers forward and back. The right wheel will not move, I can stop the left wheel from turning if I hold onto it by hand with a tight grip. Any thoughts if there could be an issue with it?
@@dropmranch I found that if I pulled hard on the bypass the wheel would stop turning but there is no external adjustment on my drives unfortunately. I changed the oil and filter on the drives recently, thinking the internal port could be blocked I added some engine flush before I dumped the oil and run it for about 5-10min, seemed to help but (do this at your own risk), I could tell the drives didn't like it Getting near the 10min mark.
If you don’t replace the cover with the new updated cover kit you’re wasting your time it will leak again. New cover is cast iron. People do not do this without replacing the charge pump cover with the new cast iron cover. Trust me. Proud Hustler Dealer here
I bought one kit and it looks so big I thought it was the wrong part. i have not put it on yet but now that axle will not turn. It was ok before the repair.
Joseph McCue it’s not the wrong part it’s painted black in cover and larger than the original aluminum cover. And it probably doesn’t work because you installed the cover 180 degrees off. And didn’t purge the unit after.
No I have not installed it yet. It just looked like it was the wrong one. The axle does not work after I changed the oil and just the o-ring. I am hoping it is just air or a stuck by pass valve. I greatly appreciate your help. I am frustrated because I only have 400 hours on this machine. BS used a paper thin crappy gasket for the crankcase and it was leaking. I fixed that and now this. Joseph McCue when you installed the o ring you installed the old cover incorrectly. Trust me that’s why it doesn’t work. Take it back off and turn it around. Then disengage the hydro reliefs and purge the unit. It should start back pulling. I’ve seen this time and time again when people install the o ring. But you still the need the cover it shows in this video. This guy should have installed the new covers he bought he will regret it.
When you remove the cover you’ll notice the pump is slightly off center on one side. People often don’t mark them when removing. Or you could install the new cover with the flat side towards the left side of the machine and resolve your issue also. Too bad you’re not close to Greenville NC you could come see us at Ron Ayers Motorsports and we could take care of it for ya.
Josh Maddox that won’t fix it permanently get the 603572 kit from your hustler dealer. New charge pump cover is cast iron not aluminum. Just seals I️ promise it will leak again if not right away with time.

Joseph You better replace the charge pump cover too
The oring is a #137 3/32dia. x 2.25 OD and is available from any industrial seal house. It fixed mine,

I was wondering when did you first change the transmission oil. Was it at 500 hours. ?.
Any torquing info when replacing the plate?
What are the torque specs on the bolts? is this common on all ZT pumps?
Does the hustler sport 42. Is it able to be serviced don’t think it has a filter. It’s a hydro gear hydrostatic rear ends.
