#1) I appreciate the high speed on the video that cuts the mundane down to a minimum. #2) You do not ramble on .. and on.... and on... #3) You get to the point and get on with it. THANK YOU!
Great instructional video Tony! I had to do mine about 2 months ago. Simple job after you do it and you can save a little money doing it yourself. If you can change the oil you can do this just a few extra steps.
@@tonyslawncare My zero turn is only 2 years old, i haven't change out the fluid cause the right side hydro is not going straight in reverse. I still have 1 year of warranty left. I will have to take it back to dealer and have them adjust it since that's what my operator's manual say to do. Watching how it is done on video allow others to learn quickly. Again thanks for upload!
You seem like a nice guy Tony, I really wnna thank you for making this video. I used it to change the trans. Oil on ours too and you saved us alot of downtime and money. Thank you again!
Hey Tony. My ZT3100 hydros is the same but Gravely route my fluid/hose to where yours purge. Another word is reverse. My purge nut is where your hose goes in. Still same size nut. Anyway, thanks for sharing 👍
Great video Tony have not seen many hydro videos if any. The 5400s have a internal cartridge filter and comes out from the inside frame. No wheel removal. Be sure to check you fluids on LEVEL ground once you bleed system.
Thanks just bought my mower I'm looking for ways of keeping it for a long time, my old mower lasted me 15 years with frequent oil changes on the Kolher engine I used nothing but synthetic oil and car oil filters.
I always find it's best to service hydros with two people. I sit under the mower waiting for the fluid to start coming out of the hole while the other person is up top doing the filling. It's a lot less messier doing it this way rather than how it was shown in the video.
Tony's Lawn Care absolutely one person can do it. But like I said, it’s typically a little messier that way. Trust me, I love doing I can on my own but I also hate making messes at the same time. My garage floor is like the floor inside an operating room. I freak out if I drop one drop of oil on my floor. lol
Great video Tony. Followed the entire process. My issue is when I filled the hydro reservoir with new oil it fills up and does not drain into the hydro transmission. What do I need to do?
@@tonyslawncare I did that too. Mine is an allen wrench plug which I loosened. It's working now but it's a slow process. My mower is same as yours. Still love your video, friend. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for this. Recently bought a ZT with a 3100 transaxle. Never saw a maintenance guide with the package. How many hours do you get out of an oil change like this?
What is the reason for leaving the transmission plug open when pouring the oil in and waiting for it to come out to close and tighten it. Gnna do this job soon. Thanks!
I've got a SnapperPro S125xt and both transmissions stopped working suddenly. The handles feel stiffer than they did before. do you think it could be the transmissions? seems kind of weird if they both went out at the same time.
Depends, if you have one pump driving both motors. Some lawn mowers use two independent pumps with their independent motors. Anyways, if one pump goes out, the metal could spread to both motors.
When you’re filling up the hydros are both hydros empty or just the one? So are you filling up the one side then removing the old oil from the other side?
Fill the hydro directly under the bottle first then put that plug back in then do the other side i believe thats how my scag manual told me to do it thats how my scag is !
Hi Tony, great video, will be helpful when it comes time for me to need to do this. I have the exact same drives and as i said in a previous video it is on a brand new Ferris 400s. I have noticed the oil level in both reservoirs have been slowly but surely dropping. I have been monitoring this parking in the exact same position and waiting until completely cooled. I've also been finding the smallest amount of oil collecting around both rear wheel rims. Have you ever encountered this before on yours, is this normal or do you have any ideas what it might be? Cheers.

Really like the way you did this video. Straightforward with no BS. Like the fast forward /commentary style a lot. Good job and thanks!
Thanks for watching
One of the better videos on this subject. Thank you.

THANKS for no Shaky Cam, and NOT talking over a roaring loud engine!!

I have a Gravely ZT HD 48. it has 60 hours and i'm watching difference video to learn how to change out the hydro fluid. Thanks for the upload!
Its not hard you can do it

Thank you for saying what wrench size that the fill plug was!
The oil filter cover bolts wrench size are 3/8" SAE.
Thanks for the input buddy

I mentioned in the video that that is a possibility for some brands of mower thanks for watching my videos!

True but if you dont have a helper you can still get it done

Your the man thanks for watching i want a clean garage floor lol
love my Jungle Jack, works fantastic.
Me aswell couldnt be without it
This way, putting the oil in reservoir, you don't need to use, or try to find an angle fitting to fill the oil. Nice
Thanks for watching
Great vid Tony stuff we all love to see

Great instructional Tony! Thank you.

Great vid. About to do mine ... hopefully I have no spills because my dogs 'would' hike through it.
You got it buddy its not hard
Tony, you the man, good job!
Thank you buddy
Thanks for sharing the video it was just in time

Great instructional video Tony👍...what oil and filter did you use,can you run synthetic oil ?
rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F271444620699
I used synthetic blend
I need to know what kind of jack did you use to get the mower off the ground? I need to purchase one. Thanks for the great video!
Its called a jungle jack very handy for changing blades all kinds of things there around 200 bucks online totally worth it !
Great video Tony. Followed the entire process. My issue is when I filled the hydro reservoir with new oil it fills up and does not drain into the hydro transmission. What do I need to do?
You gotta take out that 11/16 plug it may be on the side like mine or on the top depending on where they put the hose in
@@tonyslawncare I did that too. Mine is an allen wrench plug which I loosened. It's working now but it's a slow process. My mower is same as yours. Still love your video, friend. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Take the plug out completely to let air flow 😎 bro thanks for watching you coming to GIE?
Is there a way to purge without disengaging the trans? One of mine will not disengage. Will it purge on its own over time?
What do you mean it wont disengage? The lever stuck? Might have to keep working at it
@@tonyslawncare the valve moves freely just like the other but even when turned it will not disengage the tire still moves
Thanks for this. Recently bought a ZT with a 3100 transaxle. Never saw a maintenance guide with the package. How many hours do you get out of an oil change like this?
First 100 hours then every 400😎👍
Roger that. Thanks.
Pick yourself up a couple strap wrench’s for filter removal.
Good idea sir!
What is the reason for leaving the transmission plug open when pouring the oil in and waiting for it to come out to close and tighten it. Gnna do this job soon. Thanks!
If you dont take it out the oil has no air so it wont go down into the transmissions.
Thank u for that. Really appreciate it!
Also sometimes the plug is on the top and the hose is going into the side where the plug is on mine but it works the same way
@@tonyslawncare: alright thank you for the heads up.
Amy video you might know of to put in new seals in a 2800? Mine leaks. Thx
I haven't researched that I'm sure there are some
Good video
Thank you buddy it will save you money 🙂
Good job man, way to save the $$ ;)

I've got a SnapperPro S125xt and both transmissions stopped working suddenly. The handles feel stiffer than they did before. do you think it could be the transmissions? seems kind of weird if they both went out at the same time.
Check the hydro belt and make sure theres nothing lodged in the pullys somewhere and also check hydro fluid
Depends, if you have one pump driving both motors.

Hi, I replaced the two o rings on the bottom cover and don’t know which way to put them back on
Ive never opened mine up
Anyone know the service interval on these? I haven’t found anywhere that shows a “hours” interval for changing the oil / filter on a toro
First 100 then 500
When you’re filling up the hydros are both hydros empty or just the one? So are you filling up the one side then removing the old oil from the other side?
Go ahead and replace both filters then fill up both units somtimes it has 1 reservoir that fills both
Tony's Lawn Care yea mine only has one reservoir. Would I leave both plugs off?
Fill the hydro directly under the bottle first then put that plug back in then do the other side i believe thats how my scag manual told me to do it thats how my scag is !
What oil did you use? I have a snapper 460z that calls for 20w-50 conventional detergent oil but can only find 15-50
20w50 motar oil its not hard to find i got mine from walmart i think auto parts stores have it for sure too
@@tonyslawncare Thanks I'll have to look around. Really appreciate the video!
Nice
Thanks for watching
When you purged it did you leave the hydraulic fluid reservoir caps on or off?
I put them back on but i dont think it really matters just want to keep dirt out
Tony's Lawn Care thanks bud! My dealer wants $280 to do it!
@@tenowithAJsLawnCare thats too much!
What kind of fluid did you use? Thanks
My mower calls for 20w 50

If the dealer cant find anything wrong maybe you should just run it and just keep an eye on the fluids every so often
Break the top vent plug first before removing filters. If it's seized, yer screwed.
Great tip bro
What's the filter number to order? Thx
Its the pinned comment (top comment) just follow that link
Plug stripped on one side and I cannot remove it. So disgusted with hydro gears torquing of this plug! I can’t change my fluid now!
Could you just remove the whole unit out of the mower? That way you could get at the plug easier ?
what jack was that?
Its called jungle jack look it up tell them Tony sent you 👍
My 3100 does not have that plug
It may have the plug swapped places with the hose but there is a plug on there somwhere promise
channel locks. .. not pliers! LOL
Lol im a rookie
Channel Locks are a style of pliers.
Channel locks are a brand. Slip joint pliers
It's like Kleenex, most everybody calls them Channel locks regardless of the brand.
