I would be interested in an estimate of the ratio of recurring expenses vs the non-recurring atypical expenses like the camera. In general, I find that people tend to have good estimates of recurring expenses, but not as accurate estimates of one-time expenses. Estimating both categories well is helpful in financial/retirement planning.
My atypical expenses are discretionary mostly. So I can choose to spend it if I could afford it. Tires are recurs in multiple months, fence in many years. I think it's actually refreshing to see someone how actually ends up being frugal even after they make money and someone that is not actually working per se. I see some people in this genre that are "frugal" and move into a $1.5m house.... I personally would not want to be as careful as you are with your money but certainly kudos to you and you have carved out what appears to be a very fulfilling and interesting life.

I think you enjoy being frugal and counting every penny. I grew up very poor but I've never valued money, even as I have much more of it. I don't spend crazily but I don't care so much about counting every cent - just doesn't seem worth the effort. To what end will you continue to do this sort of accounting? There's only so much stuff you can buy, I understand. Try this challenge: go six months without thinking about money, just spend reasonably and see how you like it. If at the end you see you're on a path toward destitution, go back to your stringent counting methods, but if was worth it and not much has changed fiancially, you've drastically bettered your quality of life.

hmm well I right now am buying I-bonds.... but the 10k cap per year is pretty limitiing... I also think the usgov is going to stop issuing them soon or lower them to 5k/year limit if things keep going this way lol. Honestly I just worry that there will be some crazy recession with the fed selling back all those junk mortgage backed securities at the same time that they raise interest rates at the same time that they restart student loan payments (next month?).... but when i look back on 2008, even though the feds cranked up inflation to 11 and you didnt want to hold cash during that time, at the begining of it because of the credit freeze and deflation, everyone was in a very tight spot and people were selling newish 20k cars for 6-7k as long as you had cash on had. yeah inflation hurts but having cash on had those first 6 months during a recession i think will offset most of the sting you endured from inflation. im just trying to say ur not wrong for keeping cash lol. @JohnM0rris yeah but the way things are going, everything is getting super volatile so the next dip will probably be the biggest in a long time and could wipe out 20-30 years worth of growth, which is probably how much most people end up investing in their entire life lol.
Honestly, if you are comfortable to live this way is the best. Not only reduce budget also reduce a lot of unnecessary footprints. I started to reduce the things I want to buy. I may not change the budget to purchase food.

I was thinking, it would be very helpful for people getting into the flow of finance to see your setup or the way money moves around. maybe this is a bit... too much personal info coz if someone knows u get your paycheck deposited into BOA on the 5th of every month for example, so maybe more like a hypothetical or what u used to do when you had a more substantial income. I feel like with the federal funds rate going up, it makes more sense to seek out some 5-6% APR savings accounts to put ur emergency fund money in, and then maybe direct some money into a high yield savings like w/ synch/ally/goldmansacs maybe I should try making this video... Got to separate capital expenditure like your camera from your living expenses. At most show the depreciation of it as expense. Didn't notice any dividends as income.
You should focus on getting back to where you can make $200K per year with an engineering job. With inflation running so hot, those that work are handsomely rewarded over FIRE.
Your day to day living expenses are low. If you truly don't want to work anymore, this really shows you how little money you need as long as you do not have expensive tastes and are willing to shop around/change providers or suppliers if they don't make financial sense anymore.
Or perhaps be very intentional on where you spend. I find some things can cost a lot but give little emotional satisfaction. Other times, a few dollars in your favorite food goes a long way.

Use a credit card that has grocery category cash back. Or drugstore category. Buy gift cards at those places and get cash back. Buy $500 value visa gift cards since they usually charge a fee of $5.95 to lower the percentage costs.
If you cancel out those one time payments. Your spending is crazy low. You could spend more on yourself say $500 to $1000 more a month on discretionary stuff. That would improve your lifestyle A lot, just remember you can’t take the money with you when your gone.

Best investment would be a really good retirement financial planner to manage his investments appropriately!! He’s lost SO much money just in the last few years he will need when truly retired due to his own poor investment knowledge and so many foolish ill-timed decisions. This is a silly video. Why would you pick a drastically non-typical month to compare your income with your expenses? At the very least you should compare a years worth of expenses and then divide by twelve. I don’t think it is correct to say you are retired and in the next breath say that you have an income from RUclips. That is work, plain and simple. Instead of saying you are retired, why not say that you have found a job that you enjoy, and encourage people to search for that?
Just remove the items under atypical to get typical spending. During that month, I spent around 8hr a week making videos. So strictly speaking, you could say I am only 80% retired.

About $100 dollars an hour, similar to what other professional’s earn per hour. Now people can decide if they want to pursue creating a channel or not.

Im 42 now, I live in Europe I have managed to spend something between 15k and 20k euros per year, Im still working and trying to FIRE but here the system forces you to work until 64-67 so Im being realistic and now I just want to work less and get money from investments. It Seems to be easier to FIRE in the US. Anyway Keep doing this videos, they are a source of inspiration.

To boast being a millionaire you should have liquid or invested funds of at least 1M that stays pretty stable at 1M plus through the ups and downs of the economy and markets.. To say you are retired is not just changing jobs from corporate to self-employed. That’s not because anything is wrong with it but because IF you can’t support yourself solely on savings vs earned income (he’s still paying employment taxes into SS and Medicare .. double rate now since he is self employed)… that is not FIRE… it’s switching to being self employed. He “retired” at 37 with likely 40-60 years to live. He did not have the money saved to do that. Any retirement software would not give that retirement plan a 1 in 10 chance even with his current low burn rate. Of course if he makes 100k a year working for 20-30 years and saving and investing money wisely - he will likely have a nice 20-30 year real retirement. If he keeps up his current path he’s at great risk for the last 20-30 years of his life if he cannot or doesn’t want to work at some point.

Not really anything but a place to live doesn’t make you a millionaire in any sane universe! . Inflation at 40 year highs and interest rates double just a few months ago.. figure it out! Your day to day living expenses are low. If you truly don't want to work anymore, this really shows you how little money you need as long as you do not have expensive tastes and are willing to shop around/change providers or suppliers if they don't make financial sense anymore.
Or perhaps be very intentional on where you spend. I find some things can cost a lot but give little emotional satisfaction. Other times, a few dollars in your favorite food goes a long way.

If you cancel out those one time payments. Your spending is crazy low. You could spend more on yourself say $500 to $1000 more a month on discretionary stuff. That would improve your lifestyle A lot, just remember you can’t take the money with you when your gone.

Best investment would be a really good retirement financial planner to manage his investments appropriately!! He’s lost SO much money just in the last few years he will need when truly retired due to his own poor investment knowledge and so many foolish ill-timed decisions. Sure as long as he lives off current work with lower burn rate, it’s not an issue BUT he is putting his true retirement at extreme risk.

Nah, in my experience, doubling down is not a great way to limit exposure. You have to set the amount you want to invest and not grow it indefinitely.

This is a silly video. Why would you pick a drastically non-typical month to compare your income with your expenses? At the very least you should compare a years worth of expenses and then divide by twelve. I don’t think it is correct to say you are retired and in the next breath say that you have an income from RUclips. That is work, plain and simple. Instead of saying you are retired, why not say that you have found a job that you enjoy, and encourage people to search for that?
Just remove the items under atypical to get typical spending. During that month, I spent around 8hr a week making videos. So strictly speaking, you could say I am only 80% retired.

About $100 dollars an hour, similar to what other professional’s earn per hour. Now people can decide if they want to pursue creating a channel or not.

Im 42 now, I live in Europe I have managed to spend something between 15k and 20k euros per year, Im still working and trying to FIRE but here the system forces you to work until 64-67 so Im being realistic and now I just want to work less and get money from investments. It Seems to be easier to FIRE in the US. Anyway Keep doing this videos, they are a source of inspiration.

I guess it depends on what your definition of retired is. If it means not working for anyone else in a typical corporate environment and still being able to survive by doing your own thing, then yes, he has retired. Not everyone can amass the number of subscribers to live off of youtube. Not everyone who retires is expecting to do absolutely nothing at all. That would be boring.

To boast being a millionaire you should have liquid or invested funds of at least 1M that stays pretty stable at 1M plus through the ups and downs of the economy and markets.. To say you are retired is not just changing jobs from corporate to self-employed. That’s not because anything is wrong with it but because IF you can’t support yourself solely on savings vs earned income (he’s still paying employment taxes into SS and Medicare .. double rate now since he is self employed)… that is not FIRE… it’s switching to being self employed. He “retired” at 37 with likely 40-60 years to live. He did not have the money saved to do that. Any retirement software would not give that retirement plan a 1 in 10 chance even with his current low burn rate. Of course if he makes 100k a year working for 20-30 years and saving and investing money wisely - he will likely have a nice 20-30 year real retirement. If he keeps up his current path he’s at great risk for the last 20-30 years of his life if he cannot or doesn’t want to work at some point.

Sure a house is a sellable asset but prices can go down more rapidly than they rise or when interest rates double as they have recently. Have you noticed the economy is sinking right now?? You must be super young or missed 2008-09.
If you own a house outright and are living in the house sure it’s great to have no mortgage payment esp when actually retired!!
Still unless you want to live on the street… if you sell high and stay in the same area and don’t drastically downgrade, you will pay more than your proceeds to move to a similar house. If inflation soars and others end up without jobs and in debt, the home prices will crash and will be super hard to sell… and again you will need to live somewhere. Not really anything but a place to live doesn’t make you a millionaire in any sane universe! .
Inflation at 40 year highs and interest rates double just a few months ago.. figure it out! Markets are down too.. and Bonds. Really bad situation is here and not getting better for quite some time. Just feel he’s in a vulnerable position. Trying to impart some experience and perspective. If that brings you down get over it and wake up!

btw there are some reddit posts about using the BOA custom cash card w/ 3% in online shopping and using it to pay for property tax and HOA fees through online portals. the card maxes out at $2500/3 months though ($833/mo), but you can get multiple of them. can also put 50-100k worth of stonk into a merral lynch BOA investing account and get 4.5% or 5.25% back on "online shopping", which might make more online portals w/ high fees or even Plastiq make sense.... thats a lot of work though
