Hands down this is my favourite football discussion ever. Not just this bit but the entire interview. It is refreshingly honest and the two managers are being totally themselves. There are no sound bites, pr exercises, media savvy posturing, just two football managers doing their best to be civil and have it out with each other. Like Clough Revie too was a total legend, but Clough was a brilliant orator and he got his points across in the most entertaining way. Best of all these two managers were both being themselves.
I have watched this interview dozens of times over the years and it always captivates me and brings me back in time to another era and a more 'innocent' way of football. Although football was much rougher back then, and tackling could be downright evil, there was an honesty and innocence about the game before it became over commercialised and all the money and PR firms stepped in.

From1964/5-1973/4 the only team to finish in the Top 4 for 10 consecutive seasons was Leeds, then Liverpool (6) Man Utd (4). They also amassed the most league points in Div One between 1964/5-1976/77 (13 seasons) totalling 722 points to Liverpool's 716 and Everton's 601. When it was 2 points for a win meaning they were 60 wins better than the third placed side for this period.

Clough was completely outclassed in this interview. Revie came across as much more of a professional man. Indeed, Clough appeared inebriated at times. Contrastingly, as a manager, Clough's record may never be beaten. In fact, I am sure it never will. Taking a small club from the brink of relegation to the Division 3 and turning it into a top European side is a remarkable feat. He was to do it again with Forest, this time going all the way and win the EC. Shame they hated each other.

Don't know much about English football in the 70s but this is top notch viewing. A shame TV stations can't run interviews and conversations like this now. These days football commentators and interviewers think they are as important as the players and managers. Most interviews are either about scoring a 'gotcha', luring out a controversial statement or creating a headline. The best interviewers know when to shut up and let their subjects speak, as this bloke did.
