Follow up on my Triumph Tiger 1200 XRT. I'm love it more now that winter season is upon us. The heated seats truly is a game changer and the electronic suspension. The Triumph blue tooth app also works great with the bike.
I had a 2017 BMW GS 1200. I had it about a year and then rode a 2018 Tiger 1200. I was at the dealer the next week trading in the BMW. Yea I took a loss but the Tiger was soooooo much better
100% agree - I took a 2017 GS for a test ride , and didn't like it at all. Found it very clunky, and the vibrations were annoying. Picked up a 2016 Explorer XCA and absolutely love it. It just oozes quality in comparison to the GS, not to mention all the features and kit that come stock. Great video thanks
I have a 2017 1200 (Explorer) XRx. Did almost 10K miles in 4 months (3 big trips) and absolutely LOVE it. Agree the gearing is a bit "agricultural" but has been bulletproof so far. Don't need nor like all the "new" tech. I'm an analog guy and enjoy the aspect of the minimalist/old-school riding style. Great video!
I absolutely love my 2018 Tiger 1200 XRT. I just got rid of the Arrow exhaust and put on a Fuel F1R Exhaust so now it has a nice deep growel and I'm grinning ear to ear.
I'm a new owner of the Alpine Edition (my former bike was a Tiger 800 XRX since more than four years, an excellent bike) and I agree with you, the Tiger 1200 is a fantastic bike, I love the sound and the smoothness of the engine (I've tried the Tiger 900 GT PRO, such a good bike, but without the sound of a Triumph Triple, I'm very happy with my new 1200, cheers from Belgium ;)
I have the korosi red xrt 1200! Since May 19 i've never been so happy in my life 😉 i could choose GS, multistrada, KTM,... But... It's not the same.. this one is simply the best!!! Greetings from Portugal 😎
On my second Tiger, first one was a 2010, second one is the XRT. Both very good bikes. I think it is the engine that I like so much. I was greedy, wanted more options ! For the price you can not grumble compared to the other competitors in it's class. I do find it a challenge to move , but once you are on the fly, the weight dissipates. A good all round bike, like it has always been ! Thanks for your review. Will be glad to get on some twisties.
Nice honest review. I am also coming from loving a sport bike background and when I rode this tiger 1200. It felt like 100% benefits with no sacrifices. It handles beautifully, the motor is quick and very responsive, the suspension is a dream. If you ride with a passenger, there is no need to avoid and bumps, bike just tanks through them like a escalade. I also rode the GS1200. That felt good but kind of old. Tiger has more spirit and adventure. I just ordered the tiger and get it in 2 weeks. Can't wait to go out for some rides.
Great bike Bill. I just bought the same exact bike 2 months ago. The only difference is its the XCA model. Only got 400 miles on it so far but I love it and agree with your comments during your ride. I was able to get in on the free set of panniers deal just under the wire, and that was the deciding factor.
Nice video. I came from the Africa Twin and VFR1200X. I rode the 1290 Super Adventure S, Ducati Multistrada 1260S, BMW GS 1200 Adventure, Yamaha Tenere 1200 and a 2018 Tiger 1200 XCa. I went to the dealer to ride the Multistrada. When I got off the Ducati, the dealer said check out the Tiger. I was going to pass since I read it was heavy and had less horsepower, but the dealer suggested I forget the paper numbers and ride it. He was right, I'm glad I did. Based on reading the specs, I thought it was some slow tank of a bike but I was completely wrong. I had owned a Speed Triple and Street Triple in the past and I suspect that is why I picked the Tiger 1200. There is just something about the way that Triumph does triples that rubs me right. Motor wise, I probably liked the Honda's V4 in the VFR1200X second, but that bike is really outdated compared to the others. The KTM felt like a tractor, the Multistrada felt more like a finicky sport bike, the BMW and Tenere were kind of similar to my surprise, but the BMW was higher quality than the Yamaha, of course. I have not ridden the S 1000 XR though. Another surprise was the power on these bikes. On paper the Tiger is down on power, but when ridden back to back, the Tiger feels every bit as powerful as the other bikes mentioned. And it is faster than the VFR, Tenere and GS (1200) for sure. I ride regularly with a guy on a Multistrada 1260 S and when he takes off to pass, the Tiger is right there with it. So the Ducati may be quicker from a dig, but from a 60 mph roll on, where it matters, it matches the performance of the 1260, in my experience. And sounds much better doing it, imo. The downsides on the Triumph are its weight and how hot the engine gets in summer stop and go traffic. Otherwise, its a pretty great bike. Of course, I wish it was 75 lbs lighter and had 20 more hp :)
I tried off road mode the first time and it took about a minute to adjust and after that, it was so much fun going through light off road and nothing crazy. I feel this motorcycle definitely has a lot of power in my opinion. I can easily hist over 100mph in the parkway with no trouble. Not sure if I want to go any faster. I just love this bike but I would love to try KTM Superadventure and BMW. Ducati is just out of my budget and Harley has to many horror stories but I'm not sure if they are true but it still scares me.

Hello Bill. I have been watching your videos for Street Fighter V4S because I have the same bike. But today I just found out about your tiger review. I bought a Triumph tiger desert edition last months just because of exactly the same reasons. I love the comfortable seating position, wind protection, suspension, built quality as well as the price. Great review. Thanks

Any thoughts on the difference between the new 900 vs 1200? I'm scheduled to test ride soon. As a bigger guy (6'4 220) I'm leaning to the 1200 but like light maneuverable bikes. Thanks!
Hi guys, I've just replaced my tyres at the end of last year after wearing out the front tyre, due to my riding style pushing the front tyre . May I offer the Michelin Road 5 Trail tyre to be a great choice for the XRT. It has a stiffer side wall.
I just sat on one at a local dealership. It was surprisingly comfortable for my 6'4" frame. I haven't heard much about Triumphs and don't see many on the road. Are they reliable? Are parts easy to get? Any major issues with them?
Great video. I have a chance to purchase a used Triumph Trophy or a new Tiger 1200 XRT. I will use the bike for commuting and 2up riding for 5 hour journeys. Which bike would you recommend?
Thanks for the video, and I live in Santa Rosa so I was familiar with every square inch of your video'd ride. You definitely made that hill look easier than it is on my 2010 Triumph Thunderbird 1600. I love the build quality of my Triumph, I've had a V-Strom 650 for the last 5 years and am upgrading the adventure bike...Triumph is at the top of my list and I'm trying to decide whether the 900 GT PRO or the 1200 XRT is right for me...The shaft drive of the 1200 is very attractive so I don't even have to mess around with chain cleaning and lubing. Guess I'll go throw a leg over both and see what feels the best. By the way, Eurocycle in Sonoma is actually Windsor California and they no longer sell Triumphs there, although they will do basic service like oil change. They can order parts from their Vegas store if you are patient, but last time I tried to get a couple crush washers from them, they forgot to order them, and so I just ended up driving to San Rafael and got them from Marin Speed Shop, which is the closest Triumph Dealer in the North Bay. Thanks for your video, really appreciated it!
@@CaliMotoTV What do you mean questionable? I'm looking for a bike to ride for 10 years, so resale isn't a concern for awhile. Why are you selling your XRt and how far are you from Santa Rosa, I'm in the market to buy? Year, miles, etc?
I bought the 2019 Tiger 1200 because I think it shines in the looks Department, and yes your right, it is so comfortable and relaxing to ride, the only one negative I have is the heat the engine puts out on your crotch when the temperature is 80F and above, its a cooker, I just bought a seat cover called cool covers that I'm going to try out this summer, and I have installed upper crash bars that I think I'm going to install some kind of plexiglass on both sides to divert the fresh air towards the seat area to see if I can cool things off. Thanks for posting the video I enjoyed watching it. Glad your out having fun and not obeying your overlords.
In Portugal gets very hot in the summer... Last year i took my 1200 xrt into a 3 day trip... Always over 30 Celsius... And the heat issue was nothing to bother! I came from a tracer 900 previously and i don't feel any particular diference...
Did the cool covers work? I just bought this and you are right...Its a cooker. I live in Phoenix so anything i can find will help. It was 95 the day before Easter (Yeah I know!) and i was cooking. I have under armour heat gear but still quite toasty
Appreciate the review, and it is wonderful to see an alternative to the ubiquitous GS. I am surprised that you never mention the KTM - the new adventure S is brilliant, but it is a chain drive...
I've seen a ton of moto youtube reviews! Great review! Had not thought of a Tiger 1200 till I saw it at a euro shop. Your review cinched it! Triumph or nothing, lol! I'm wanting to cross country thousands of mile to rural areas and hadn't rode in over a decade. Don't want fat bike tourer been looking at these new adventure bikes that can mount boxed cargo. Looked at all of them. Harley's new offer, BMW, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Guzzi, Honda and Triumph.... Of all of them this bike seems to give better bang for the buck a smoother ride a better look a better seating height and you are right most the others are really top heavy.
You guys sell great bags! I bought a pair for my softail and get compliments all the time. The shape matched my rear fender better than any of the Harley branded bags and for a lot less $$$.
@@CaliMotoTV I had an 800 XCA 2016 model, very nice, comfortable, fun, but difficult to put on the central stand. I just sold it and I am waiting for my Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE Grand tourer. It hasn’t got equivalent, I am not keen in flat twins. I saw one of the latest Trophy 1200 SE: wonderful bike, superb quality of built. Typically the kind of bike I would have bought if still available. Yes Triumph should make one of these again !
am looking change from sport bike to somthing for touring, i have these options. 1200 XC, also the KTM 1290 GT/ or KTM super adventure , do you have any thoughts on the KTM ?
Hello Bill, first of all. Awesome review of that bike :) Could you do a review with the FJ-09? I'd like to hear your thoughts of the bike that im riding :D See what you think about it :) Another thing i have to ask, when are you releasing more videos from your MT-09 on the track? I cannot stop watching those videos :) Have a good one
@@CaliMotoTV so probably they change something in new model because in my 2016 XCA the heat is horrible, especially with motorcycle jeans. And we don't even have 28°+ in the summer :x
I just bought a XRt 2020 an i love it. Can you explain what you mean whit "Cadilac Mode" ? Where you change it? Do you use the personal settings? How do you set it up? I tried a bunch of bikes before i end up whit the Triumph Xrt. I love the engine and the look and there are no bike who can match the comfort. Great video by the way.
A shaft drive is very useful. But for me the 1200 is to heavy and expensive. As I do love triple engines, I keep on riding my Tiger 800 XRX from 2017. I added the heated grips and the additional fog lights. It has enough power, I do not need the extra power of the 1200. Some time ago, I tested the GS 1200. It is a good bike, but I would never change my Tiger to a GS. The GS feels like a car on two wheels.
I ride a 2013 Trophy SE, it has a ton of weather/wind protection, how does the XRT compare? I've been considering a new Triumph 900 GT pro, want to ride that and the Rally pro before I put the $ down. Subscribed!
Did you already rode the new Tiger 900 (Rally) Pro? Maybe that also a great tourer, especially with about 40kg less weight. Only the windproctection is probably less, but an aftermarket screen should solve that problem.I love to hear your comparison!Greetings from The Netherlands!
Considering I haven’t been on a bike in a number of years, a few months ago I was looking at getting myself a bike again. Reviewed the Dakati Enduro, BMW GS and of course the Triumph Explorer 1200. After a fair amount of deliberation i chose the Triumph 1200, and although a 2nd hand one for now (2012), I’m by no means disappointed. Even although your brilliantly executed review of the 2020 version exudes excellence, I can certainly agree with you that the Triumph 1200 (personally) knocks the other brands out of the park for so many reasons. Cannot wait to eventually get myself a brand new version (whatever year that may be)
Hello. What about reliability, could users comment on that? The initial model had serious issues with engine and electronics, they even did a complete front cylinder recall swap. And i see users complaining for the 2019 model, electronic failure, gearbox failure and replaced on warranty, and so on. I really like the 1200 on paper, but, the relaibilty is a big issue, when you pay so much for a bike...
It's too Big, too heavy but I'm pretty certain it has shaft drive which saves it. BMW R80GS with shaft drive and 32 litre tank was the best all road Adventure Bike I owned and rode. BMW should release a commemorative model.
Great review! Have ridden my 2013 Honda F6B across the country three times, and down into Baja to Cabo once, but am itching for an adventure bike to do Mexico again. Their roads are shit.
Adventure bikes will change your life. Ride both the BMW R1250 GSA or Tiger 1200 XCA for sure. It’s between these two. IMHO. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.
Hello my friend! What do you think about explorer new desert & alpine edition 2020? I prefer desert edition. Thank you for your attention dear admin 💪😘👍

Nice video. Which BMW were you referring to as a top-heavy one? I believe s1000xr 2020, cause GS is definitely low-heavy. Still TT1200 is the heaviest animal on the plate...😉
Cali Moto TV Hmm, maybe I got it wrong as I thought it is about how you feel the center of gravity of bike during a ride. I have ridden GS and I was shocked it was so low. As a result I felt it really light and easy to handle
Excellent! I bought an Alpine Edition overequipped. Nice rides ahead for this summer. But it's a real pity Triumph will stop its TIGER manufacture in UK and send it to Thailand. Grrrrr
I don't think they are "manufactured"....but rather "assembled" in Thailand. The same is true for my Bonneville T120. It's just like most companies where the parts are sourced multi nationally and final assembly is in Thailand. I don't have an issue with this.
I have to agree, the BMWs are left in the dust by Triumph. I know some riders love their GSs & XRs, but the prices are eye watering by comparison & honestly I don't see what you get for all that extra money. You could buy a Triumph AND a Ninja 650 for the price of some BMWs with money to spare. BTW he needs to learn to change up & not rev the balls off the engine.
I have an 18 Bonneville T120 Black....I've been eye balling these for awhile. My T120 sex appeal = 10 / Tiger 1200 sex appeal = 0....but who's trying to be sexy whilst adventuring and I don't need any more woman problems HAHA. It's still cheaper than a marriage/divorce.
Looking thru the Screen , I Keep saying It , I hear to Heavy , needs loose Weight The Bike is to big for you , for a start , sorry I not picking on shorter people , but you have To be able to put both feet down at times when you stop , Especially on Gravel and Ball bearing Gravel , on the road , and when Stop on the road left Foot down so you can Ride the Brakes Especially on hill starts
Adventure touring is getting off the paved road and on the country dirt roads and even logging roads. Your just Touring , might as well have a Honda Goldwing or a Sportbike..
( 8 minutes later) Just checked and no didn’t hear a awful lot about why the triumph Tiger 1200XRT is the best adventure bike. I heard about BMW,Ducati , the new Tiger900 the new tiger 1200 but not a lot about the bike your riding so well around those lovely bends. Nice riding though.
"The best" doesn't mean anything. However, youtubers love to persuade followers that they found the holy Grail... You can eventually say "my favorite", but the best for you may be the worst for most of us.
A owner if a GS just told me... "Mate... You have probably the best bike of the market this moment..." And i believe so... Also... GS has less HP, less specs... Less style 😉 but it's a great bike! These kind of bikes are much more a question of personal taste than any other issue! Because they are all great 👍 Tiger, GS, Multistrada and KTM... Ride safe
@@GalambaPortugal yeah well this GS owner disagrees. Both great bikes no doubt. Just opinions. I'd love to swap bikes to compare really compare after I smoke Bill on his favorite road.

Has Triumph fixed the heat problem, I rode a 2018 that I really liked but the heat coming off the engine was a deal breaker.
I have the xrt fantastic bike
Great reviews. Liked the Africa Twin 1100L . Ride it its awesome. Although waiting for the New Tiger 1200 2022. Should be interesting.
@@christianyoung5245
Any solution? It’s nice in winter but killer in summer. I’m used to a Yamaha FJR1300 that has zero heat.
Bloody ell what revs you running that engine at?
I was wondering the same thing lol!
All the torque available in the world no need to rev it like 400 cc bike. Just wasting fuel and inducing unnecessary engine wear
Great video it’ll help me make my mind up cheers thanks Ian
Appreciate the review, and it is wonderful to see an alternative to the ubiquitous GS. I am surprised that you never mention the KTM - the new adventure S is brilliant, but it is a chain drive...
LOVE THE TRIUMPH TIGER 1200 FROM INDIA😍😍😍
But they are made in Thailand, not India?
I think someone is pulling your leg on the 24" front tyre. Was the article dated 01/04/20?
Yo do you have any content second question do you have a lot of heat coming off of it and slow speeds and time
I've seen a ton of moto youtube reviews!
@@CaliMotoTV Well I never buy used I don't want someone else's damage goods. Price on a tiger out here is pretty good!!
Looking at a Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport. What does the extra 150cc give?
Great video! we here at VikingBags really appreciate your content! Keep up the good work!
You guys sell great bags! I bought a pair for my softail and get compliments all the time. The shape matched my rear fender better than any of the Harley branded bags and for a lot less $$$.
I’m undecided between the 900 rally pro and the 1200 xca
I enjoy touring model bikes and I would like to see Triumph bring back the Trophy line up or make a touring model with the Tiger
I'd like to hear your thoughts of the bike that im riding :D See what you think about it :)
Another thing i have to ask, when are you releasing more videos from your MT-09 on the track? I cannot stop watching those videos :) Have a good one
Please tell us of your impression of engine heat off that bike on a hot day.
@@CaliMotoTV so probably they change something in new model because in my 2016 XCA the heat is horrible, especially with motorcycle jeans. And we don't even have 28°+ in the summer :x
@@MrYogass
My 2017 xcx radiates heat at me like I never would have imagined since I bought it in the winter. Ugh. Otherwise I love it. Any solutions?
Thinking of buying the 1200. I’m 5’9 is this bike to big?
I just bought a XRt 2020 an i love it. Can you explain what you mean whit "Cadilac Mode" ? Where you change it? Do you use the personal settings? How do you set it up?
I tried a bunch of bikes before i end up whit the Triumph Xrt. I love the engine and the look and there are no bike who can match the comfort.
Great video by the way.
@@CaliMotoTV Thank you.
nice riding sir. this is my dream bike!
What about the engine heat on your legs. For me that was the only thing that was a passion killer, especially in t he summer.
@@CaliMotoTV Have you ridden it over 85 degrees F yet? That's when it becomes more noticeable.
Great road
Ok, so new 900 or 2020 1200?
A shaft drive is very useful. But for me the 1200 is to heavy and expensive.
As I do love triple engines, I keep on riding my Tiger 800 XRX from 2017. I added the heated grips and the additional fog lights. It has enough power, I do not need the extra power of the 1200.
Some time ago, I tested the GS 1200. It is a good bike, but I would never change my Tiger to a GS. The GS feels like a car on two wheels.
Hello Bill, just wondering why you preview the power 5 tires over the road 5's
Great review. I’m a new subscriber. For reference on your reviews on how you fit,, would you share how tall you are and so on.
Cali Moto TV thank you. That’s perfect I’m 6’3” and 215. Looking at buying a Multstrada or Tiger. Thanks again and stay safe
I ride a 2013 Trophy SE, it has a ton of weather/wind protection, how does the XRT compare? I've been considering a new Triumph 900 GT pro, want to ride that and the Rally pro before I put the $ down. Subscribed!
I have a 2015 triumph trophy se also, love electronic windshield. Thinking of getting 2020 Tiger-:will miss music though. Love shaft drive
Yo good to hear congratulations on your purchase on your 1200 tiger I was concerned about the heat from the seat is it true
Yo keep the content coming...Respect👍
Is that the standard screen? Looks different to the UK 1200 XRT.
@@CaliMotoTV Cool thanks
Did you already rode the new Tiger 900 (Rally) Pro? Maybe that also a great tourer, especially with about 40kg less weight. Only the windproctection is probably less, but an aftermarket screen should solve that problem.I love to hear your comparison!Greetings from The Netherlands!
Thanks for your answer my friend!
At 14:10 I believe what you meant was “changing your state government “.
can seats be lowered , for shorter riders
Beautiful video
Considering I haven’t been on a bike in a number of years, a few months ago I was looking at getting myself a bike again. Reviewed the Dakati Enduro, BMW GS and of course the Triumph Explorer 1200. After a fair amount of deliberation i chose the Triumph 1200, and although a 2nd hand one for now (2012), I’m by no means disappointed. Even although your brilliantly executed review of the 2020 version exudes excellence, I can certainly agree with you that the Triumph 1200 (personally) knocks the other brands out of the park for so many reasons. Cannot wait to eventually get myself a brand new version (whatever year that may be)
Looks like a great road, which route were you on?
Cali Moto TV thanks!
Great review.....!
Can you start the bike while on gear?
Only if you press the clutch...
@@GalambaPortugal i ask this because i saw a youtube vlogger said he can't do that and only when in neutral. The bike was a street triple.
Thank you
It's too Big, too heavy but I'm pretty certain it has shaft drive which saves it.
Peace.
Super
Hello my friend! What do you think about explorer new desert & alpine edition 2020? I prefer desert edition. Thank you for your attention dear admin 💪😘👍
Nice video.
I came from the Africa Twin and VFR1200X. I rode the 1290 Super Adventure S, Ducati Multistrada 1260S, BMW GS 1200 Adventure, Yamaha Tenere 1200 and a 2018 Tiger 1200 XCa.
You never mentioned the only other shaft drive bike in the class...the S-10.
Would you get the 900 over this if you had to do it again?
The 900 Tiger's TFT is 7"...just for the record
And the “ Famous Heat “?
Excellent! I bought an Alpine Edition overequipped. Nice rides ahead for this summer. But it's a real pity Triumph will stop its TIGER manufacture in UK and send it to Thailand. Grrrrr
@@CaliMotoTV Thai factory is amazing and ran like a Swiss watch after a tour. Zero worries on this aspect boys.
I don't think they are "manufactured"....but rather "assembled" in Thailand. The same is true for my Bonneville T120. It's just like most companies where the parts are sourced multi nationally and final assembly is in Thailand. I don't have an issue with this.
Love permanent
I have to agree, the BMWs are left in the dust by Triumph. I know some riders love their GSs & XRs, but the prices are eye watering by comparison & honestly I don't see what you get for all that extra money. You could buy a Triumph AND a Ninja 650 for the price of some BMWs with money to spare.
BTW he needs to learn to change up & not rev the balls off the engine.
Note: the GS has less HP and only this and the GS have shaft driving
Super tenere 1200 has shaft drive as well! Take care!
Have you heard of KTM?
what about the KTM?!
Hard seat, vibrates, poor wind protection and chippy suspension on the road. Engine wants to pull your arms off though. Yeah, I want one too.
Looking thru the Screen , I Keep saying
It , I hear to Heavy , needs loose Weight
The Bike is to big for you , for a start , sorry
I not picking on shorter people , but you have
To be able to put both feet down at times when you stop , Especially on Gravel and
Ball bearing Gravel , on the road , and when
Stop on the road left Foot down so you can
Ride the Brakes Especially on hill starts
Adventure touring is getting off the paved road and on the country dirt roads and even logging roads.
Your just Touring , might as well have a Honda Goldwing or a Sportbike..
8 minutes and still not got to the reason I clicked on this. vid
Cali Moto TV
Oh no you could be right I’ll just have another look and check.
( 8 minutes later)
Just checked and no didn’t hear a awful lot about why the triumph Tiger 1200XRT is the best adventure bike.
I heard about BMW,Ducati , the new Tiger900 the new tiger 1200 but not a lot about the bike your riding so well around those lovely bends.
Nice riding though.
Too many words
"The best" doesn't mean anything. However, youtubers love to persuade followers that they found the holy Grail...
You can eventually say "my favorite", but the best for you may be the worst for most of us.
What a shame. One video it's the best bike ever, and on another video it's the worst.
BUT THE TRUTH IS JAPANESE BIKES IS THE BEST.
I love my Yamaha fjr1300. I love my triumph tiger 1200. I would not speak against either one compared to the other.
Too much information, get to the point please. Common problem with most videos these days.
I thought with this Covid 19 about that we are all supposed to stay inside our homes and keep safe...? No?.
I'm calling you out. I'll smoke your Tiger on my GS. Go ahead and pick the route.
Your a jocker mate 😂😂😂😂
A owner if a GS just told me... "Mate... You have probably the best bike of the market this moment..." And i believe so... Also... GS has less HP, less specs... Less style 😉 but it's a great bike! These kind of bikes are much more a question of personal taste than any other issue! Because they are all great 👍 Tiger, GS, Multistrada and KTM... Ride safe
@@CaliMotoTV You're funny, the video tells a different story. I'm still calling you out :)
@@GalambaPortugal yeah well this GS owner disagrees. Both great bikes no doubt. Just opinions. I'd love to swap bikes to compare really compare after I smoke Bill on his favorite road.
