- Hello my friends!
In this video, I will show you the restoration process of an original German M1940 Stahlhelm ( Steel Helmet ) from World War 2!
I was able to buy this original German helmet shell a while back for a good price.
The helmet is a later war Quist produced Stahlhelm, and was post war painted in black.
It's time to bring this helmet back to its former glory!
I hope you enjoy the video!! :)

A VERY rare moment!! 😂
Yeah!!!!
Beautiful restoration
I'm a simple man. I see Nick uploaded, I click.
Same
Glad to see you working on RUclips again.
I prefer the M35 Helmets due to the double decals, but M40 are also quite nice.
Hello nick, when will there be a trench video?🎉
Anny fanmail comming in?
I loved the trench vids and nick
Yeah that’ll be nice
All I honestly want in a Trench video is mostly raw footage. I don't care about the length, I just want to hear Nick talk about historically accurate things with whatever guest he invites
Yah that would be cool
It’s been 3 years since we have had a proper trench video :(
Its always a great day when nick posts a video
ALWAYS a pleasure!!!
Historically accurate!
LETS GO!
Another video from Nick and its Stahlhelm restoration!!! Awesome! 😊
Btw the intro was great! 👍👍
Thank you for watching!!
It's been quite a treat to see the notification pop up,your videos cheer me up a lot!
I really like how this helmet came out, like early mint condition, especially when you showed it next to the other ones you've made.
Also, playing the harmonica on the treadmill is a skill man, totally cracked me up with that ending,Thank you
I'm happy to hear that!! Yes, I love the look of mint helmets, ready to be played with, haha! 😂 I'm a crazy guy, I love playing Harmonica while I march! 😂😂
YOURE BACK
a fine tribute to those once loyal.
Helllo Nick, great video as always.

Your back!!!😊The helmet looks beautiful. I’m so excited to see your next video! You always make me so happy thank you
Thank you for watching!!
Very nice restoration,my grandfather August Lindemann was a German soldier during WW1,,he came to South Africa after the war.I was a conscript in the South African Defence Force (1976-1977) and also a Angolan war veteran.I like your reenactment and trench videos,it’s such a pity that your MG 42 got damaged. In South Africa they do reenactments of the Boeren Oorlog (1899- 1902)during that period we were at war with Britain.Keep making videos,it’s much appreciated.
Hey there fellow South African 👋
Is jy Afrikaans?

Hey Nick good to see you back in the loop.
I was waiting for the usual cut to the hand but you escaped, so no wound badge this time.
Interesting about Quist continued to produce the M40 until late war.
We need another battle instalment from Zer bunker 😊
Hahaha, I guess I was Lucky somehow... no wounds this time!! 😂 Thank you for watching!!
Ah yes! A new H.S. video! It brightens my day off!
Hey another video let’s go nick
Thank you!!
Great to see a restoration of an M40 stahlhelm. I love the result especially with the decal.
Wear do you think is the best place to pick up original stahlhelms for good prices?
Thank you! It's very hard to find 100% original helmets for good prices, they get more and more expensive.. and a lot of them are fake! Be sure to buy from well known websites!
Looks good.
you are my favorite youtuber. You gave me inspiration to make my yugoslav wars collection

Can you do a WW2 dutch impression vidio?
Like your videos.
Another great video nick!
Glad to see you again mate really lovely helmet can't wait for the next video mate 👍
Great video Nick. With temperatures often soaring past 100 degrees in Melbourne, you could really age a liner band perfectly with a good afternoon's worth of gardening here!
Great job, the final result is amazing!
Love seeing these restoration videos ❤
yer videos are always entertaining i got a M42 german helmet i restored it back it had the same black paint as the M40 did
german helmet are liners are hard and without hurting yourself i got a original vietnam M1 helmet it was my first helmet

Thank u nick this was a epic video ❤
i've waited for a restoration! nice video keep doing wat you do man!
I have a German helmet , my uncle, asa Armantrout gave me when I was a kid. He was a paratrooper in WW2. The one I have is the only one that wasn't rusted away. He had a 55gal barrel of them on the roof of his house that he'd sent home. The last one, mine was in decent shape, it has the name abel on the inside. He told me abel wasn't able to wear it anymore. Hard man.
Nice video
Very cool, is it a m35?
Just did my first resto on a Finnish M40/55 to a Wehrmacht 1940 stahlhelm. I got a repro decal, liner, liner band, and chin strap and aged them according to your instructions from numerous vids. Turned out great and looks great setting on my homemade M24 stick grenade helmet stand. JAWOHL!!!
Can you please do a tour of your World War II collection, each one of those items you have it’s so cool because someone was holding it in the war
You know it’s a great historical accurate day when nick uploads!
Heeeeeeesssss BACKKKKKK
Wow very cool!!!!
Thank you!!
God bless you sir and amazing video once again. I do have a question, is paint made during WW2 any different than modern paint? Paint now has alot of synthetic materials in it now. Do you know the ingredients of typical paint used for the war? Thank you
Thank you!! Paint back in the day was different, but there are companies producing paint that is really close to the original! The paint I use in this video contains Aluminium Oxide for texture, just as they did back in WW2!
@@History-Secrets Thank you for the reply.
Glad you're back nick!
Yes please upload more this is so cool. I have a US M1 that I’m going to restore because I watched your video on how do you do it?

Love your channel Nick! Big big fan!❤
Hey Nick. I'm just here to tell you I got my first M40 and m34 helmets. Have a good day
Awesome, congratulations!!
Hi.
Depending on how the helmet looked like before you restored it, I think it was used by Czechoslovakian civil defense or firefighters. After the war they, there was a lot of german helmets left here. So they repainted them black and often replaced the liner, chinstrap and splitpins. The splitpins were a little bigger than original ones and on your helmet you can see the mark on the paint they left after they were removed.
Very nice restoration!
Yes, I'm sure you're right! Thank you for watching!!
So cool.
Another great video Nick, i'm glad your back. Keep u the good work.
When do you go metal detecting again?
Hi Nick, as one who loved airfix models on creating WW2 tanks, aurcraft and love restoring this is very interesting and creative. Well done mate enjoyed 👍
very similar to my M35. I got it in apfelgrun from Atthefront. Put double decals on it and left it.
Your videos are awesome
Thank you!!
good job on the helmet
In the former Czechoslovakia, these helmets were modified after the war for the needs of fire brigades and civil defense. The original color was mostly removed and the helmet was painted with a special black paint. Both the inner liner and the strap were also replaced. Exceptionally, you can find a helmet with the original paint and emblems under the black color, sometimes with the original inner liner and strap. I have a converted helmet in my collection, the way it was modified after the war, because everyone modifies these helmets to their original form and these post-war modifications are slowly disappearing.
This was extremely satisfying to watch. I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little bit jelly, though!
He is here
Wist nooit wat ik miste in het leven, maar nu weet ik het! Een Duitse soldaat die harmonica speelt op een loopband, danku Nick!
Super Kool video. Love your Helmets.
