Hi Dr. Grande. I fell asleep listening to you one night last week. I dreamed that we were working together at an Ohio State research facility (I'm an alum, so no surprise there!) and we got in this huge argument! I was telling you "Just diagnose him! He needs help!" And you replied, "I'm not diagnosing anybody. I. ONLY. SPECULATE." Lol... sorry I know it's off topic but I wanted to tell you that. I hope you see this. He continued to act impulsively and didn't use his knowledge of criminology to get away with committing the murders. Apparently, he didn't even use his knowledge criminology to clean his car of the evidence, aybe he did. We have known it for weeks that they saw his car. Let's see how this all plays out. I agree. I have Aspergers and Borderline personality disorder, I am prone to psychosis and have crippling anxiety, so bad that without Xanax I can't get out of bed, and the other medications I take makes me feel so tired, and that doesn't exactly help to get out there and meet people. Most people would certainly describe me as socially awkward, and I really really hate when that is one of the things they *always* mention when they find "their" killer. And it *really* fucking sucks. There are other traits they can push in front of the cameras, socially awkward people would rather stay inside and not meet people at all than go out and kill somebody and risking being pushed in front of the spotlight, or not succeed and be terrified of people laughing at them. If a killer is socially awkward, it's most likely because of a lack of empathy - not something like Aspergers or social anxiety.

One of my cases, the suspect was a reputed psychologist, who proved to be a fraud. Long story short, he thought he was the smartest person in the room. Biggest mistakes most offenders make is they don’t know when to stop talking. With the exception of only one occasion in my ten years, everyone wanted to give their side of the story which always led to their downfall and conviction. The only one who ever refused to talk to me was a four time loser in the prison system. Sometimes I got to the point that I thought they wouldn’t stop talking. PS: provable lies from suspects are better than silence.

I'm very concerned at the media coverage, even in the UK: so many seem to assume 'this is the guy' when he's only been arrested on suspicion & IS innocent until proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt. I can't imagine how it must feel to be in this situation, if you're innocent.
We may still have the killer on the loose - something that's happened plenty of times in the past. A suspect may be all-sorts of things, their behaviour may be odd, they may have had bad interactions with others - but that doesn't mean they're guilty of anything. Let the course of justice run.

And when I say kindness, it is just as simple as smiling and saying hello each time I saw them. These situations can be very scary. People's brains work differently and sometimes bad experiences can be taken out on innocent victims simply bc the person they hurt reminds them of someone in their past. Now that the timeline of events on the night/morning of the murders has been established - I'm a bit troubled as to the logistical possibilities of BK's physical ability to park a vehicle, walk to the house and enter it effortlessly (somehow managing to avoid collision with a Door Dash delivery car/person). Then, find his way to the 4 individuals, at least one who was evidently eating/drinking her Door Dash delivery, stab each one of them to death (allegedly one of them fought back), manage to walk (NOT run, per DM's description of the masked man she observed) - down the halllways and out the sliding glass doors, to his car and drive away - in only 13 minutes. I suppose it could be accomplished - by a professional. But, a first time guy? Tik-tok activity must have been interrupted by being stabbed. What about Chapin? While his girlfriend was ordering Door Dash and using Tik-tok, was he so sound asleep that he didn't wake up to stabbing sounds? Did each of the 4 not utter a single scream? And... before the arrest, it was stated that one of the victim fought back and the police were sure the killer would have some sort of resulting marks on his body. ??? Surviving roommate, DM, reports hearing what she describes as a possible whimper. I so hope the police focus on not putting ALL their eggs in one basket in this case. The glove wearing isn't as strange in Kohberger's generation as one might imagine. Mask wearing/glove wearing, even obsessively, has become common these days. Too many unanswered and glaring questions remain - what about the Door Dash delivery person? Could they perhaps be the masked man seen by DM? DM and the other surviving roommate simply don't sound believable. Bottom line for me keeps throwing me back to that timeline though. If BK is the killer, he gets the gold for being the most expeditious multiple killer of all time. First time out to boot!

I also think he wanted to commit the perfect murder, and that his selection of a house of girls was chosen not due to “rage at being rejected by women in his past”, but because women, especially petite women (if he first scoped out the house ahead of time to see who occupied the residence) are easier to
stab to death than men. I believe he is a sadistic psychopath who kills for the thrill of killing. He didn’t need (or want) to sexually assault any of the young ladies because the act of killing them in the manner he killed them satisfied his sexual urges, as he equates violence with sex. Plus,
      sexually assaulting them and leaving
his ejaculate at the crime scene would
make it that much easier for LE to identify and catch him.

I find it odd that everyone is looking at his extreme veganism as OCD, instead of seeing it as a potential restrictive eating disorder. IMO he was bullied for being "weird" and "overweight", perhaps called "Blubber Bryan" or something like that. His school friend says he came back from a summer break one year, and had lost weight and become mean. Was he trying to control and change the narrative of his life in Pennsylvania, but people wouldn't let him? Think about it, bullied at school. Then he goes to a College near to his home, which let's face it, is like going to 13th grade, because someone you've known since kindergarten is there, and "Blubber Bryan" starts all over again. No matter how much he achieves academically he's always the weirdo. Then he tries to do the "Geographical Cure" and move across country, thinking he can start anew, but....he cannot get away from himself, no matter how thin, or what clothes he wears, or how much money, or what grades or how many degrees. This may have been his last effort to change and become someone new. Someone he thought he should be. Someone people appreciated for his genius etc. Yet, here we go again, these little blonde girls are calling him weird, he's getting written up at Seven Sirens for being weird...... he lost out on trying to control his outcome. Imagine the frustration of "I'm giving them what they say I should be. They (media etc.) say lose weight and you'll be happy. They say wear these clothes and we'll accept you. I've changed myself completely, yet they still hate me, and say I'm not good enough." I think moving to Washington was a desperate act. And I think this was his "Sch00l Sh00ting" scenario

People with certain mental pathologies will find a reason to harm no matter what. Their boss made them mad, their spouse made them mad, etc cetera. Don't blame the world. Blame the person who unalived ppl. The difference is a person without certain pathologies will be bullied but never kill someone. Go buy your own damn pots and pans. Arrested development, and whose paying for those 3 degrees and his apt. Daddy!

Who the hell cares about parents of a killer being awaken at 3 am? Those young people were killed in the middle of the night in their beds. Honestly, you feel bad for a murderer's parent being awaken? Seriously? My sister was murdered and never once did I think about when the killer's family found out that he killed my sister. Didn't care and never will as I am sure the family of these victims don't.

I’m very sorry for your loss and understand why you might not feel sorry for the family of the murderer. But some of us are capable of feeling empathy for everyone impacted by crime, whether related to the victim or perpetrator.

As soon as i read he was a Cr. J. student i thought: he wants his crime unsolved mainly so he could ask his future students: "What do you all think about that famous unsolved ID murder?" Then he'd gloat secretly to-himself how smart he was to have gotten away w it. (Brain-power w/o compassion is a horrible combination. Have you ever met anyone like him in your school days, Dr. G?)

A common restricted interest (obsession) in individuals with Aspergers or autism can be crime & psychology in order to understand human behaviour and why they may feel like they don’t fit in with others. A lack of social skills (social awkwardness), higher IQ, lower EQ (empathy) extreme SQ (systemising), black and white thinking (I’m right, you’re wrong), multiple failed interactions with peers over time, OCD (co-existing), a lack of understanding the thoughts and feelings of others leads to multiple rejections by peers and subsequent feelings of anger and revenge. A probable drug addiction (to cope with failed social interactions or missed diagnoses) combined with the pain of not being able to ‘connect’ with people over time and mental health issues and/or personality disorder then ultimately lead to externalised rage. Likely, little to no dating or relationship history. Early childhood photos , family history, and childhood developmental profile could confirm this.

This is the first time I’ve heard anyone suggest (and I’ve combed through a lot of material on the case) that he was ok with both outcomes, getting caught or getting away with it. I also had this thought early on, as I learned more about his personality. I think to some extent he thought through both outcomes (to an extent) and weighed whether it was “time” to get caught. This is because I most definitely think this wasn’t actually his first horrendous crime, he just hadn’t been caught yet. I believe his sloppiness in this case was the result of uncontrolled emotions-rage and impulsivity, he finally “snapped” and lost sight of some of his planning skills. Another thought I have is that he initially was only targeting one girl, maybe 2, but murdering 4 people was not in his plan. He encountered Ethan and Xana and wasn’t expecting that. Thus, he wasn’t thinking this was going to be such a high profile quadruple murder case…perhaps he truly didn’t want to get caught, I bet he’s pretty disappointed in himself that he murdered the other 2-3 kids “accidentally”! Thank you Dr grande for your awesome insight.
