That crazy for that little amp to out out that power and at 1 Ohm, little high on price but if you don't have a lot room this would be pretty good choice.
This amplifier comes in the Single Sub Starter Kit on Down4Sound. It’s fun. I was looking for this video when I bought it, but didn’t look hard enough. My remote knob went kaput shortly after purchase, but the car got wrecked before I could replace it. It also came with a 4AWG wiring kit.
Maybe not officially marine certified, but the board DOES have a clear conformal coating protecting it. Just shows they cared a little, for example, even Apple products don't even do that. Maybe you could silicone seal the end-caps on. The downside to this amp I see is maybe those cheap "Cap-top" capacitors are the failure point, either from heat (being so close right next to the MOSFETs), or from the electrolytic vent not being protected from humidity.
Wait!!!! ✋this was uploaded 1 day ago but @6:18 you showed the results from a year ago 1/18/19 🤔 or did you put the wrong year 😅. Thanks for the information tho. I may get that amp for my IS.
The "notes" in most rap type music are sine waves. A better test to see how good the amplifier's damping and control over cone movement would be something that has well recorded kick drum hits or synth hi-q hits. But most looking at this just want something that can make noise. Imagine a dragon farting in a small room! ;) Another thing to remember at 75% efficiency (1OHM) 25% power (~140W) is HEAT. This TINY amp has a very limited surface area to dissipate that much power. In other words, the fucker will get really hot quick if you're doing more than simple 50Hz burps. p.s. a speaker is a reactive load. ;)
Real mosfets, not a chip amp at that size, and does ratings? It's awesome. Way too expensive for 500w, but aside from that it's a wicked little guy. Killin it as always BigD. Hey, between the transistors and that aluminum transfer block thing, there's a pad, you think it's good enough or one should smear both sides of the pad in computer thermal paste (non conductive, those pads are there for electrical isolation sometimes)? I got some stuff recently that have the same cooling thing going on and I'm not sure if it's worth the effort taking everything apart and adding paste or if the difference isn't there/or maybe worse? If I had a thermal probe and lots of time I would stick it to the metal part of the transistor and measure temps at static loads between pasted pad and how it comes. But I can't do that.

Very good performance but not a good value. At these power levels who is actually running 1 ohm loads? In addition, at 1 ohm, with the components packed so tight with no fan it will suffer from overheating. Unless it is used in a motorcycle, this amp loses to the Alpine and many others in its power range that can be had for much less money.
@yes yes. I run a soundstream Picasso nano pn1 650d. It's $99 on ebay right now. I've had good experience with it's predecessor and both are still running strong. The alpine mrv 500 big d showed is also good if you can find it.
Yep marine cert is VERY important for these small amps. Cause the application they are used for is boats / ATV / UAV / motorcycle. Cause doesn’t make sense they didn’t do that. Expect they didn’t want to pay the extra $$
Cool little amp and another great video! At least the caps are rated at 105 degrees. Hopefully they are decent. Man I was really hoping that when you took it apart that I was missing something or you just took apart too much of it. The idea of having to do all of that just to change to fuses isn't good at all considering that the thermal compound gets exposed. That stuff is sticky as hell and if it gets any dirt or anything in it while the fuses are being changed...that's another problem in itself. There won't be proper heat transfer from the transistors to the heatsink. When I saw you slide the board out and saw the paste too...I almost fainted. 😂 But anyways, it's still a little powerhouse. I just hope that whoever owns one just be aware that if they ever have to change the fuses to be mindful of the paste. ✌

@@trudeaumustgo1920 I agree but Im talking about the price Not the quality.
1. It’s not a garage, it’s THE LAB! 🔬
2. Big D Wiz would’ve just thrown a $1 bill next to the tiny amp, but Derek is SOOOO FANCY! Same size, right?
3. Great vid as always!
BTW, how’s that wall-o-shame coming? I got a potential candidate for ya. 🙅🏾♂️
Wall o shame is coming!!
Great vid Big D 👏👏👏👏👏
👌😬👍
How come we never c the settings on amp when playing an testing them
Review the Toro audio 500 RMS mono amp please, it's tiny too
Very good performance but not a good value.
We were just saying the same thing up higher in the thread. It's gonna get crazy hot. Def can get better for the money.
@yes Kenwood Exceleon 500.1 / Rockford Prime 500.1 / Alpine 500.1 are all stupid good. I personally have the Kenwood Excelon 500.1 👍
Can you do the amp dyno using an alpine ktp-445u or one of the other power packs?
to me Alpine MRV-M500 still the 500w king
Thats a lot of heat build up in a very little box....i would suggest running a fan on these
You can get the toro for 74 dollars with a coupon that makes it 68 dollars and tested over 500 watts and it’s tiny
Think of the technology it took to do this? Nice. I wish there was an actual way to measure headroom quality. Thanks D.
I measure the space above my head in the car = Headroom. Ha ha that’s a big dummy for you
Bid D needs to damp his garage door at its resonant frequency.
What’s the deal with marine certification does that mean that it’s just water tight
That looks a better amp then inside my active speakers
It "might" be time to upgrade to an insulated garage door. Lol.
Great video as always, keep up the good work.
Gotta keep it insulated
I'm sold!!!!!🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🤯🤯
Yep marine cert is VERY important for these small amps. Cause the application they are used for is boats / ATV / UAV / motorcycle. Cause doesn’t make sense they didn’t do that. Expect they didn’t want to pay the extra $$
I’ll ask them
That's a badass lil amp
Another great video. Thanks. What a great little amp. Sheesh.
Any budget friendly 5 channel amp test coming for 2020 ???
