I respect direct even tho I've made thousands more streaming... It's a niech thing for me.. direct to consumer is just not practical for the country Im from and the way my niech audience is spread out globally in the "nerdcore" genre... But I still respect direct.
Big facts. I worked at record stores for like 6 years in the late '90s and 2000s. And watched as Napster and streaming changed everything. Everything comes full circle that's why if more artists get on this idea of a direct to consumer we have a real opportunity to create super fans again.
Great content, my daughter will be a new artist releasing music within the next few months , do you recommend staying away from streaming and point point towards downloading/purchasing digital downloads?
spotify and other streaming services should be looked at as commercial. Not as an income for artists! As it is now it is not so good for that but I think that would be the best way for them, streaming services, to continue. I don't see that independent artist will stay on these platforms.
Here’s my only issue with the direct to consumer route.Im not an expert but I was under the impression that streaming platforms was partially a fight against piracy. If so we live in a (Data)driven world more so than ever. That is the new reality, we have companies training AI models with preexisting work. And now that these models are up and running It seems to be a new race. Not only AI companies but even other artist and producers. So let me just be short what is stopping people who work for these companies or frivolous fans from taking our audio files and selling them to these companies?
I love the independent hustle, and the grind. But I am still curious, I don't see how or where super fan listeners will listen to your music. I love the idea and the split from the streaming model, but where would listeners conveniently listen to your music in a world beyond file ownership?
That's where the superfan comes in they will be happy to download mp3s to their phone and then you can import them in Spotify so you can just add them to your Spotify playlist or whatever when you listen. It's an extra step but that's where educating your fanbase comes into play.
@@ThatOrko been using Spotify for years did not realize that was an option. Interesting. Not perfect, but like you said once you build the loyalty it could work out
It's always about money with businesses. It is in the best interest of the company to earn as much revenue for themselves as possible. That's why artists need to treat themselves like these businesses and take control of their earnings.
@@ThatOrko Yes, I may have oversimplified my explanation. My main point is that achieving a fair distribution of music across all genres is no longer the primary objective. This is because major labels now control the global distribution channels; they have essentially become the 'music shop' themselves, a shop that operates with a conflict of interest. The industry is closer to a monopoly than ever before, which severely hampers the distribution of folk, cultural, and other music sung in the languages of small communities.

How do we eliminate the middle man? Distrokid charges $20-$40 a year, spotify charged me $100 minimum for spotlight and $200 for marquee and it seems useless
It should be 5 dollars out of the 10 divided in the artists that the listener enjoyed that month. Regardless. Weather he listen to 100 or 3 artist that month.
Problem is fans don't really have CD players or cassettes anywhere as they are no longer standard in new cars. But I definitely think they should still be available
Tom definitely has figured out how to maximize earning from his audience. That's what it's all about really focusing on your fans and your audience that wants to be there more than the really focusing on your fans and your audience that wants to be there more than the really focusing on your fans and your audience that wants to be there more than the really focusing on your fans and your audience. Making sure you have what they need.
Exposure is the most important. Because if you're not known, no one CAN support you. Spotify provides that because they're simply better marketers than all of us, combined. The facts are the facts are the facts are the facts. Don't hate the player. Hate the game. Get to work.
Exposure is incredibly important but Spotify isn't the end all be all. Because at the end of the day only a small percentage is are being pushed in front of other audiences and you still need platforms like TikTok IG etc to drive traffic to the streaming platforms. At the end of the day we're all just kind of working for streaming and social media platforms. And while some of it definitely is a necessity there are hybrid methods that we can do that maximize exposure as well as earnings all while taking control of your audience and algorithm. Stay locked into this channel we are going to be dissecting a few different methods on this.
Let me ask you an UNPOPULAR question you won't like, lol. I don't have stats, but I would wager that 90%+ of the people who are paying for Spotify are paying because they want access to big record label music. The sad truth is that (in general) people don't not want to pay for independent music artists. It sucks, but it's the truth. So the question is, since Spotify mostly exists to distribute big label music, isn't it fair that independent artists get pushed to the side?
Good point, but It is more complex than that, in the past indie record stores were segregated from mainstream stores, but since some music from other cultures and subcultures often crosses over and since online consumption no longer keeps music within geographic and class boundaries I think young people now consume both independent and mainstream music regardless of where it comes from, so Spotify is selling the convenience of having everything available, even if most of the independent music will be ignored it is somewhat expected that it will be there.
The bigger point of this is that if Spotify take money from distributors to host independent music, they have to pay those royalties even if it causes them losses...they chose to host it! If independent artists don't recoup then they have to cut off all the distributors besides major labels and be honest about it. The distributors are probably the only ones profiting from all this anyway as they have no costs at all.
Probably streaming is going nowhere and that's ok, but what about directing all the efforts you make and the money you spend on promo to make thousands of streams towards creating a fan base that actually buy your music instead? Streaming could last forever, I don't care about it if meanwhile I have a die hard fanbase that buys my stuff. Write your own chapters, not the ones that big corporations wants you to. Curtiss be our music messiah, David versus Goliath

This can be true. I believe that money should not be the reason art is made, the joy and passion for making the art should be. However if it is successful enough to transition into a career from it, that is true art career success.
I wash you guys all the time. I think y’all should put some classes together. I think that would be pretty cool. U2 have a lot of knowledge that can be distribute to struggling artist like me. For instance, they’ll tell me I’m too old to do music when I thought music was a art form and just by knowing where to put your music at and how to go about it with the person my age is like what do I do with this music that I just created, that industry hijack people for their talent
The music industry has not changed that much the cream rises to the top there will always be quality rolling stones ,Beatles led Zeppelin who cares about the losers
What you thing you Jay-Z selling those CDs😂 in 2024 with no promo team If you sell cds or vinyl makesure you streaming too. You know RUclips anit paying the bills with those views you got👀😭 Your the first streaming officer bro😂 dAt boi hate streaming Human hate what they don't understand
Oh he has a music career, he is connected enough to the music business that he can go direct to consumer, a newer artist with a few hundred followers and maybe a few hundred monthly listeners can't do what he's doing because they don't have enough people who already know who they are. Now once you get big direct to consumer makes more sense, because you have enough of a fan base that will follow you to your personal website.
@curtisskingtv @topmusicattorney I would like to think Apple played its role in the music landscape because remember how hard it was to copy CD’s to Apple computers.

Stay locked into this channel we are going to be dissecting a few different methods on this.
yeeeeeaaaaaaaaa
wait a sec.. wasn't this guy the one that FL called out years ago for using a cracked version of FL studio?? loll.. that's so funny.
I fw Curtis heavy but praising Steve Jobs and James Fake is such an L.
Thanks for watching
THIS man needs a statue
@@BatteryCoverMissing really excellent points you made.
Damn she aight...🤔
Probably streaming is going nowhere and that's ok, but what about directing all the efforts you make and the money you spend on promo to make thousands of streams towards creating a fan base that actually buy your music instead? Streaming could last forever, I don't care about it if meanwhile I have a die hard fanbase that buys my stuff. Write your own chapters, not the ones that big corporations wants you to. Curtiss be our music messiah, David versus Goliath
Direct to consumer………..
Stream his her to stay curtis 😭
It ain't going nowhere don't hold ya breath.

how to make money as a musician: get an actual job and quit trying to make a hobby into a career
He's left behind
That's all but don't have a cow man...😂
Curtis is hurt 😂
The music industry has not changed that much the cream rises to the top there will always be quality rolling stones ,Beatles led Zeppelin who cares about the losers
"cream rises to the top "
No, it doesn't. Mainstream music today is absolute trash compared to what it was in the past, both in variety and quality
What you thing you Jay-Z selling those CDs😂 in 2024 with no promo team
If you sell cds or vinyl makesure you streaming too.
You know RUclips anit paying the bills with those views you got👀😭
Your the first streaming officer bro😂 dAt boi hate streaming
Human hate what they don't understand
I use to watch yo pod but you scared of streaming now😭 got damn 🤦😂☠️
Curtis King doesn't have a music career
Huh? 😂😂😂😂
He ABSOLUTLY has a music career. That statement is crazy.
@curtisskingtv @topmusicattorney I would like to think Apple played its role in the music landscape because remember how hard it was to copy CD’s to Apple computers.
Holy shit im scared now hahaha what do i do that was eye opening for sure thanks
This is great! Today is a beautiful day! Get money! Value knowledge though! Streaming is like a NFL team giving u perks after your main contract, cats just got it backwards! Im a O G who been touring n selling merch for 30 years! Some money better than no money , streaming wasnt there in the 90's so thats NEW money! Establish your tour life first! Get your credit right young artists! Then you need no one but can work with anybody! If you aint doing TOURS wtf you worried bout streaming for? duhhhh 🫶🏾🦁💚💛❤️
