Just let this sink in: all those shitty deals that record companies made with new artists back in the 70’s and 80’s would be considered GOLD MINE DEALS today. The record companies ripped artists off everywhere they could, yet those bands STILL managed to become very wealthy with their “cut” of record sales. Touring used to be just a means to promote a record. Bands toured so people would go BUY the record….. it’s mind boggling what has happened. The internet has made a new kind of “star” and killed off the old ones.

I'm renewing my courage and gonna throw the rest of my "buy a car" fund into this music thing. Even breaking even will be a win, and I'll have my music out there. Also, I can go back to my original plan of signing fellow AI artists who make good (not 100% AI) music. No recording studio needed, no touring, etc. Cheap business to run. I just found your channel and I'll be watching more of your videos, because this aligns exactly with what I'm doing. I joined a small label for a while, released an EP with them, but it didn't seem to benefit me and I decided to not do that again and just go on by myself. I just released another EP myself about a week ago and I'm trying to build an audience on my channel on yt. I'm really hoping for a sync deal, that would be a dream come true, because I'm a typical "invisible" music producer that loves to work alone a lot. But I'll try to do useful collabs and learn more!

Creating our own label has crossed my mind...... but I wouldn't know where to start or what to do with it.....

I have an idea for video for you to do , a topic I have seen no one cover. Just how do you go about securing the permission to cover some ones song to put on a CD for sale . , how do you know how much royalty you will be paying per copy , and whom do you pay the monies to ? And perhaps there are important things to know which I have not mentioned , Thank you !
We found 100's of AMPEX 2" Master tapes of R&B artist from the 70's, 80's and 90's along with about 20k LP's in a storage unit from a ex CBS executive. Artist and producers are deceased and no longer avail anywhere even though we sold off LP's quickly with big demand in France. Can we assume copyright and start publishing? Looking for legit legal advice in a comment section.
Hey thanks for reaching out! We cannot give legal advice through the chats. If you'd like to book a consultation, please feel free to send your email and number to my assistant, hun@DelgadoEntertainmentLaw.com. Thank you!
Just offering a comment on my lay opinion on this. Yeah not legal advice just my lay understanding. A mechanical copy is not ownership of the work. Having a mechanical reproduction recording etc.. is just a mechanical - and would be a legal copy IF you legally acquired it, and if that copy was a legal copy. The right to make "new copies" is a copyright of the person who owns the work. Often mechanical rights these days are assigned to PROs etc.. who collect royalties for mechanicals, not all works are assigned though but it is common practice. Its very likely that if the works were signed CBS artists then those materials are probably owned by Sony Records but each song may have its own copyright context. Mechanical Royalties: The author of a song has the right to be paid every time a copy of that song is made (or “mechanically reproduced” A mechanical license grants the right to reproduce and distribute copyrighted musical compositions for a statutory rate.) The specific number of years after someone passes depends on the jurisdiction 70 years is normal. Meaning if they passed in 1980 then they would would be public domain in 2050. Again Definately consider consulting with an entertainment lawyer for actual legal advice BUT without specific infos just as a lay person I would say 100% No, you can't you need to obtain a mechanical license from whoever owns the copyright to the world as mechanical productions are not ownership of that song only that mechanical copy, and if that copy is not legally acquired or licensed then it can be considered a pirated copy. If you found the paperwork with the recordings it may be clearer how they were made. Its very likely that the master's were copies of contracted materials and those contracts themselves may dictate who owns the masters and how they may be used. Its very possible that if you legally aquired those masters you have physical possession of them but you havn't taken over ownership of any reproduction rights - known as mechanical reproduction rights. Any unauthorized copies would still violate copyright unless the works and their mechanical rights passed into the public domain. Oddly where the song was made under what jurisidction and what jurisidiction the copyright is owned in. In the event that the song creator / owner had no heirs then it would pass into estate management often dictated by civil authorities, if there is no hiers to pass an estate on, it might pass over to the jurisidiction if tha tis written into estate law. I have never heard of government exercising copyright control over materials that they have legal control of. So its not really if they are deceased, it is if everyone with inhertence under the local law is deceased since copyright is an inherited property / asset . I could be wrong talk to a lawyer. Also if someone has more knowledge please do correct me. This is my personal opinion as to how that situation would work. It depends on the jurisdictions involved as copyright law is not universal.
I'm sure Monster corporations are about to steamroll me but nobody's doing what I'm doing and what I create will never be taken away from me. I need help. I have four artists and it's in four different languages and I barely speak 1.5 of them. This goes further. Most producers and artists focus on their niche. I want to focus on my niche. Every single one of my niches. My niches are every single niche. I'm a lyricist and anything can go anywhere now with AI I am in control of all of my art. I'm watching my algorithmically designed blues songs go into their respective playlists. One set of lyrics. 12 kinds of blues. I don't think I'll do that again cuz that's boring. I want to write for the Mexican cartels and win a Latin Grammy. That is my artistic goal. My business goal is ...I want to make compelling songs and albums in every niche. And I want a team to do it with me. I want 12 people to create 36,000 songs with me.
I'm making my thousand this year. But I should be teaching 12 people to do this and I should be getting my cut and we should be taking over the world. I am the right person to guide it. Because I have higher ideology. I'm not in this for music. My goals are boring. I want food sovereignty for all indigenous people throughout the world. I want the people who feed us to have all the power. None of those people live in the global north. That's why I write songs about Honduras and Punjabi people. They have a common struggle. Your militarily enforced consumption patterns.
@@partymarty6969 why is it always a guy with 25,000 old synth videos and zero songs that they made? Why is it always people without any creativity laughing like goofballs at people with four artists and a 50 song Spanish playlist when they learn Spanish when they were 28. Why did you put more effort into what jacket you chose than any music you have ever created Marty?
If You're Not Your Own Label Yet, What Are You Even Doing? Enjoy.
Universal Music takes their monitizing of infringement to the point of absurdity and well beyond what they're actually entitled to. They'll try to claim stuff that's public domain.
I have 2 personas. One The Celestineproph -instrumental music. The 2nd Kerr Alexander Country music singer/ artist. The latter I have 3 covers out. The first I have about 12 instrumental pieces out. I'm trying to build/ a fan base for the country music. Can one do that with covers or do I / should I start producing original music? The covers I've gotten the copyright/ license through Distrokid. I don't think I'll be generating any money with covers- is that true?
Hii! Thank you so much for the info. One quick question, Is it possible to license (sync etc) an instrumental version of a song you've released already somewhere else?
Yeah since she hasn't provided you a reply I thought I would just provide a little info on what I would expect. Again I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice just my interpretation to how it normally works. Depends if you granted exclusive sync rights to that party I would think. If it was a nonexclusive release then you can reassign licensing rights nonexclusively. Not all releases are exclusively assigned. Yeah I think you would need to provide her with specific information about where it was released through what service what the contract terms were ect.. to really answer a question like that. It would be in the contract what assignments there are. The terms of the first release probably have the answer to your question in them.
My goal is to be my own boss and be a entrepreneur and work for myself and make my own money I got a lot of talents I need to put RUclips videos 😅 Regular jobs are garbage pay minimum wage $20 cutt employees hours and u have managers bossing h around a lot I hate that 😊
What am I doing? Just got my hair tips frosted. Heading out now to get my padded shoulder Neon yellow suit jacket. I’ve practiced relentlessly on my guitar and can play D,A,and G chords perfectly. Once my killer video comes out and MTV plays it regularly, the record companies are going to be knocking down my door. What’s that?…The 80’s just called and want their list to follow for success back? I’ll call back later. ‘Sup dude?

It seems like someone really want to become a music distributor. Is there a reason why we don’t talk about that? It seems to me like Miss Crystal should become a music distributor herself and actually offer a good deal for the people that are on with her. You would have to imagine there’s so many distributors that are such bullshit deals. She could become a millionaire like practically overnight.
I have started releasing all my songs and productions under the same nam, no matter the style/genre, because otherwise everything gets so splintered.I will make musicvideos for some of them aswell. Thank you for a great video.🙏 /Boozledrop

The specific number of years after someone passes depends on the jurisdiction 70 years is normal.
@@TopMusicAttorney Haha joking about the legal advice. Sent a email.

Solid videos. Highly valuable information. I also am a very hot ( I.e. talented) rap artist and I own my own record label. So this is very interesting

😂‼️
@@partymarty6969 why is it always a guy with 25,000 old synth videos and zero songs that they made? Why is it always people without any creativity laughing like goofballs at people with four artists and a 50 song Spanish playlist when they learn Spanish when they were 28. A songwriter I met said she doesn't copyright because there's so many ways she wrote her songs first
If You're Not Your Own Label Yet, What Are You Even Doing?
I'm cooking, cerdo a la cerveza:
1kg de lomo de cerdo
1 Morron Vmarillo
1 Morron Verde
1 Cebolla
1 Cebolla de Verdeo
1 L de cerveza negra stout
1 kg de papa
Sal a gusto
Pimienta a gusto
Enjoy.

Thanks for making UToob vids covering all the legal stuff that most of us are klooless about.

@@TheCelestineProph mix the two together.

Yeah, depends on the contract you had with the label you first signed for. Read it (probably in some
unnecessary long sentences)....

Who needs a record label? What's the point? Just sell your stuff yourself.
How can I be a part of you all? My name is Dice Iverson, I'm an artist, producer, and engineer from Memphis, TN 🔥
I have started releasing all my songs and productions under the same nam, no matter the style/genre, because otherwise everything gets so splintered.I will make musicvideos for some of them aswell. Thank you for a great video.🙏
