I was "lucky" and my transmission had issues with < 1000 miles... the dealer replaced it with a new transmission from the factory. I now have 108,000 miles and have not had any issues since. I had the same issue with the transmission going into safe mode to prevent further damage. I was driving from Big Bend in the middle of nowhere Texas to Dallas and had to keep stopping and restarting the car when it went into safe mode.
This is called transmission slip. A damaged transmission can have trouble switching gears, and if you get stuck at a low gear while trying to go faster it cases the rpm to stay really high, which in turn causes the transmission to overheat. I'd say either the 85,000 miles from the previous owner were really rough, driving like a racecar, (likely) or your 7000 miles were SUPER intense which is also possible since the rpm was likely really high from the start and you didn't notice till it flashed at you.
I have had issues with my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude since I got it with 50,000 miles on it last February. I had an interlock (blow and go) installed the day after I got it, and noticed that anytime I stopped at a light or a stop sign, when I went to pull out, it had no power. Like it was trying to go but it was like it stalled. I took it back to the dealership 2 times and they blamed it the interlock. So had it taken out in January, the vehicle now has 85,000 miles and still doing the same.... stop, go to pull out and nothing rpms go up, but vehicle not moving... it's trying but nothing... then when it does decide to go it jerks..
I have a 2015 Cherokee sport and i needed a new transmission at almost 75k miles! At 40k miles i needed to replace all motor mounts 🤦🏻♀️ …. Jerks when i try to accelerate, always vibrates when on idle… list goes on
Currently experiencing the same exact thing ! First time for me . I’m on 119k miles . Shifting issues , jolting when I press the gas. I got it at 65k miles . I got it checked by a mechanic and they said nothing was wrong . That was two days ago and I haven’t seen the light pop up since . However my car is still lagging !
I did a muffler delete and added a black widow exhaust and deleted my resonator and it seemed to help. But doesn't completely fix what you also described. 2019 lattitude plus at 84k
I have a 2015...no issues yet at 170000km...but I did have a 2012 Nissan Rogue of transmission problems...basically the cvt transmission can't handle high speed for long periods of time...the oil gets hot and transmission starts slipping. At that point you've burned your oil lost its velocity. I was able to put on 200000km on that transmission by changing the oil every 30000km...but i just found out this Cherokee has no dip stick...so that really sucks
Take it to a trans shop and at least have the trans fluid level checked. Trans fluid needs to be replaced at intervals of 50k miles if you plan on keeping it for a long time.
So you're saying transmission fluid needs to be replaced at 50k and any sign of an issue your answer is change fluid? Wonder if anyone has changed fluid when having issues and trans never work again, good question is t it?
@@robsim4692 trans fluid is not like Blood. It does not replenish itself on its own. It breaks down from heat, it is simply hydraulic fluid for a transmission.
These are sealed transmissions; you can't check or change the fluid on them. They generally cannot be repaired either as far as I know. If it fails, or begins having issues, you are looking at replacement.
@@JDwalton1973 Bullshit. I have already changed the fluid in my 2019 Cherokee Latitude, myself. Drain and refill. Takes about 4 1/2 quarts of 8-9 speed fluid.

Issue with shifter. I replaced the whole shifter but did not update any modules, etc. that they wanted me too. One year later still driving. Engine light, transmission light on and off. And just keep driving it. 120k miles now
