Dude.. I passed over the Nuphy Air for this and couldn’t be happier (coworker has an Air and it sounds cheap). The typing feel of those POM switches is practically a religious experience.
Nuphy is the best low pro keeb. Hot swappable, great keycaps, really nice build quality, and thocky af. For a WAAAY better price. Also has 2.4ghz dongle.
Low-profile keyboard is severely underated. It takes much less space and doesn't need a hand rest to type comfortably. I love my Keychron K3. I wish low-profile keyboards are more popular.
The sound of this Keyboard made me actually go out and buy a custom keyboard. I've watched tons of videos and I enjoyed the whole "thock" sound, but not for me at home. Then I saw a video of this keyboard and I was like: wait... what? A keyboard, that sounds like a bunch of marbles? So I went through a lot of other videos and finally ended up buying the Yunzii M71 with linear switches. It sounds quite similar to this keyboard, nearly as marbly, but it's a regular old keyboard. Nonetheless if this keyboard ever gets a better, slightly larger version, with better placement for the arrow keys and maybe even an ISO version, then I'll buy it in a heartbeat.
Since my first experience with low profile switches, I sold my regular mechanicals but even the low profile blue sounds way less irritating and somehow thockier (even if blues are supposed to be clickier) than regular blue switches, now I also have a low profile red switch keyboard and in love with it. There’s something very different and satisfying about low profile switches and you can’t compare them to regular ones as they will look and sound different to the same because there’s less travel distance, I find my fingers are less fatigued when typing after long periods of time. 💗💗💗
I'm so happy I went low profie after many years of keyboards since 1987. I've used many Cherry originals but recently took a short diverseion into the gaming keyboards as that was what is available here. My keychron with linear reds make it really easy to type - with travel slightly more than a laptop but still positive but the real game-changer was the size, followed by the VIA customisations. Being able to have 4 keyboard layouts and a ton of macro keys is awesome. Noise-wise, I really enjoy the new rattle free boards. The give me a sense of more control, precision. I'd like to try an ortho version of the same board - split would be a bridge too far but southpaw may be an option.
This looks great! I use the Keychron K3v2 as it's one of very few hot swappable low profile boards available in a nordic ISO layout, and with their banana optical switches it feels pretty dang good to use IMO.
I feel like the NuPhy Air 75 was a big inspiration for this keyboard. I use mine whenever I’m on the go, with the laptop at coffee shops or when traveling. I might have to give this a try.
I'm still using my very first mechanical keyboard, it's a Keychron K1 SE lowprofile and I love it... aside from how incredibly clicky and loud it is. I've been wanting to try another option as I've had this since it was just about first available, and I'm really interested in something like the keyboard you reviewed in this video. I'd love to see what you think about the Nuphy Air series, I've been eye-ing one for a couple weeks now.
This is the reason I don't go near mechanical keyboards. Though I saw the razer blackwidow I think can be fitted with silent keys. That would be cool (more than double price of my Mx keys mini though and wired ).
I ended up ordering the Nuphy Air 96 v2 with Wisteria switches, I got it in two days (today) and I already love this thing. Sounds nice, feels great, works well. I need to re-learn typing a bit to adjust to the slightly different layout/distance of keys but I'm already not that far off my WPM pb.
I bought I high-end keychron low-profile board with clicky keys and I'm very happy with it. Hotswappable switches, great build quality, multi-pairing Bluetooth, it checked all my boxes. It's a great beginner mod-friendly board, though the version I bought was freaking expensive.
I got this keybord and I prefer that a lot to other regular custum keybords. Granted this isn't really custum but i don't mod my keybords anyways and it has a nice sound profile to begin with. I take mine to work when i have to come in (home work master race) (most of the time) and using a regular custum keybord there feels silly. My only gripe is the see throgh issue and that i can't get iso German layout. I just added modifiers to the A, E, U and O to make Ä, Ë, Ü AND Ö. I sadly can't enjoy the giant enter though. :( kinda wanna print my own pcb and Plate but I can't find any low profile de-iso key caps with good quality. I don't think the market is big enough to custum make them. I would honestly be fine with blanks of the same kind as a compromise but it's not supposed to be. :(
I've had plans of getting a low profile keeb for a while now. My decision was just solidified because trying to bring a custom board even with wireless functions is a hassle on a daily commute to school. That and the form factor helps my wrist so it checks out on health reasons too.
I've ben on the Mac side of things since 2011 and learned to really like the lower profile style. When my MBP ran into the switches issue (which I did eventually get fixed for free) I snagged a Logitech K380 which my daughter had been using w/her iPad and used it for quite awhile. For just a basic cheap keyboard which would also be really easy to pack around if needed, it did an excellent job. For Christmas my fiance and I had been talking about mechanical keyboards and I saw sales happening w/Keychron so I ended p getting her a K3 Pro and while I had initially picked up the K1, it turns out it didn't fit the low profile keycaps I bought*. By then teh sale was over, and getting a TKL keyboard vs the full size was only a $5 difference, so I ended up w/the K5 Pro w/reds and I've been really happy with it. Back in college at 47 so I used it w/some of my end of semester school work and also using it to play World of Warcraft recently. The Lowfree looks good, and I'd be fine w/the black model probably if I was going to try it out. I do kind of wish the new keycaps on this keyboard were shine thru, but even just using the stock keycaps for a few minutes was already having them look discolored w/oil. Which was immediately after washing my hands, so that seemed crazy. The standard keycaps on keychron DO shine thru, but looks like they wouldn't do well w/whatever odd body chemistry I have going on. I like the mechanical feel and sound after so long of not using it (and I replaced the Logitech keyboard work sent me with it's thick and weirdly squishy buttons) with my K380. Which also takes up a lot less desk space, so that's nice. If something happened to the keychron I honestly might just buy a new Magic keyboard from Apple and call it good. heh * Keychron Hacker keycaps. Nostalgia of the green on black of old command lines worked for me.
I'm in the process of preparing to work on a custom keyboard, and while I'd love to use low profile switches, there are two kinds and I'm unsure on which I want to use. Seeing this was some very nice insight on the current state of them. PS: Dactyl Manuform review when?
Been a low-profile collector and I never looked back, and this is someone coming from a collection of SA keycap sets and the thickest mech keebs before.
Me, Me! Pick me!!! I've had almost every low-profile mechanical keyboard on the market. There aren't that many, but there are options and you'll be blown away with some of them. I got one because I found the travel to be a bit much for typing and it hurt my hands. I was simply not used to so much travel coming from a MacBook keyboard. This is a great way of making the transition. You can mod them with different keycaps, especially the "floating switch" style like the Cooler master or fnatic. They are essentially 6mm shorter cherry. They can bottom out on the top of the casing, but it still actuates, and actually makes the travel even shorter. I've opened up a few and done some mods like adding weight, foam, and some other general tinkering. The gasket issue is sort of solved because some are so thin that they flex when you type hard. Not the best way to solve the issue, but it helps. One issue is that could be solved is the pin placement on the switches. If they used a standard 3/5 pin on a low profile switch, a regular PCB could be used. Instead, you are limited to scrapping them out of existing boards if you want to build a custom one. The real issue is that most are not hot-swappable. So, lubing them can be an issue. For that, you have to use a lubricant with a fine applicator to drop in the lube. It actually works pretty well and doesn't take a lot of time. I know more about bicycles than keyboards, so I used a very nice ceramic chain lube, although there are many different types that will do the trick. I'm not sure if the feel of the switches will change much. I have found myself re-lubing my keyboard more often than I thought I would though using super lube ISO 100. Maybe a thicker or lower viscosity would be better. The low-profile mechanical just isn't there yet for customization, but in time it will be I think. It's just a nice balance for people that are used to laptop or apple keyboards. The LoFree is kind of garbage though, for the price at least. For that cost, there are more options available.
Choc Mini orthlinear. I wanted a low-pro keyboard that I could travel with. The keyboards on the Dell and HP laptops I use for work aren't bad, but having a travel keyboard meant I could use it at home, work, travel with whatever drive I'm using, including a tablet. I ended up building a split ortholinear with choc minis. Its super low profile, not even as thick as a standard keyboard case, and it is super satisfying to type on (personal preference). If a laptop came with a keyboard like this, it would be an end-game for me.
Highly recommend trying the Nuphy Air keyboards- best low-profile ones out there. I've been using an Air 60 as my daily driver for work for a year and have liked using it so much that I didn't even hesitate to buy the new v2 when it got announced. That said, for my personal setup, I do use a regular keyboard for customization and crazy RGB.
THANK YOU. I'm all in on low profile. I love them. I got a redragon low profile, poached the switches and most importantly the STABILIZERS and popped them on a GMMK pro. Found some low profile, shine through keycaps that claim to PBT (a little hard to tell, but they do feel nice) and I lubed the switches. It has a similar sound to this keyboard now. I really suggest doing something more like that. It actually still cost me about as much as one of these things, but my keycaps actually have good, proper backlighting. XVX Horizon V2 keycaps might work on this keyboard, BTW.
Hipyo… I have been on low-profile keyboards all my adult life. I tried to switch to a good full-profile for a month and my arms and wrists hurt too bad to continue. I used a wrist rest, no wrist rest, adjusted my chair, adjusted my desk height, watched all the vids on ergonomics. Nothing worked. Any advice? Am I stuck with low-profiles forever? I’d really like to enjoy a full sized keyboard.
I'd like low profile keyboards a hell of a lot more if more boards use Kailh Choc V1 switches instead of these low pro switches with MX style cap mounts. I want to be able to use my Moergo MCC caps on other boards, dammit!
I really appreciate seeing more flat keyboards. I've always preferred a zero angle typing experience and finding well made keyboards that offer me such is rather difficult. Really tempted to try one of these to compare to my System76 lauch board.
I would have gotten the System76 launch, but I don't like the double space bar. I have longer than average thumbs that end up with me hitting the space bar right in the middle, which would be right where the gap is on the Launch. I don't understand why they had to do something so unconventional as the double space bar.
@@kdietz65 Because it's awesome. I have large hands, my thumb naturally hits the right space bar so I set the left to backspace and it just feels right. When gaming I just switch profiles so both keys act as space.
My Dad likes low profile, lightweight keyboards so he's been using logitech membrane keyboards for a while. I was pleasantly surprised last week when he had one similar to this from keychron and I definitely enjoyed typing on it. I think this trend is a W for keyboards if it gets more people typing on switches instead super nintendo controller domes
I got myself a Sharkoon PureWriter TKL RGB a few years back for my birthday, and i loved it since then! It has low profile blue or red Kaith switches, adjustable rgb, nice profile, its not sandy as stock, and its cheap! I would recommend it for a beginner keyboard enthusiast
I've been using low profile keyboards for the last 5-6 years and I love them. I can't really ever do back to bigger keyboards because the keys feel so much better to me.
> why would I ever want a keyboard that's like less keyboard *being perfectly fine with ten-key-LESS and other keyboards that don't have all necessary keys*
As someone who has always used a laptop, switching over to mechanical felt very wierd, and felt unresponse due to larger key travel distance, so seeing nice low profile keyboards makes me very happy
I was actually about to request this video be made, since my wife prefers low profile and i am trying to find a custom thocccy keyboard that's also low profile...
Something to note is that currently the switches that come with it or can be purchased separately on their site, ONLY work with THIS keyboard. Their pin placement is slightly off compared to other Kailh switches.
When I bought my first mechanical keyboard I was deciding between the Lofree Flow and the Nuphy Air75 V2. I ended up buying a Nuphy Halo65 when it suddenly came back in stock, and haven't regretted it. However, I'm still thinking about a low profile keyboard to use at school
I bought the Air75 v1 before the v2 came out thinking I'd use it with my laptop for notes in college. My main gripe was it was a bit loud with the linear switches, but they have new switches and I don't think they're technically silent switches, but they are way quieter. I think they're Nuphy Cowberries or something? Might be worth checking out
@@EvanNeedsTherapy I've heard good things about the cowberries, and the sound test Nuphy posted on youtube makes them sound really thocky and nice. I wish I could get my hands on some to test them in person without having to buy the entire keyboard, but that's not possible.
I have the Nuphy Air75 v2 and absolutely love it. It has a creamy thock sound that I like. I have a better experience to what you had as you can swap the switches with many cherry switches. You should review it and give it a shot
I got the original Air60 and I love it, its so easy to pop it in a sling with my xreal airs and paired up with a bt mouse and DEX off my s22 ultra, i have a fairly comfortable setup to use in my car when i'm doing work in the field for my job.
I have a custom low profile keyboard that folds back so it stores easier for travel. Very nice, and I almost enjoy typing on it more than my desktop keyboard tbh.
Good vid, kinda interested in learning bit more at least about low profiles. They were always interesting. Hipyo when is next stream tho? Been waiting so long.
I just got my air60 v2. And i am very very happy with it. Id also heard good things about lofree, but i was sold on nuphy after i bought the v1. Glad your looking at low profiles, i cant go back to high profile, because i refuse to use a wristrest.
It's so funny to me because the OG keyboards were high profile, which is why we moved to low-profile.. but then people are back to high profile, and the cycle continues.
@Nuphy, please sponsor Hipyo and send them your Air75 V2 to do a comparison with the Lofree. @HipyoTech, if you liked the Lofree, you will love Nuphy Air75 V2.
“Like Cherry red and brown but good”. Lol. I got it when they crowdfunded it, and I do like typing on it. A full size with the same design and switches would be great, imo.
I have two low profile key cap sets and wonder if they would work, also wondering about putting low profile switches in one of my existing keyboards instead of getting a low profile keyboard. Would you get the same feel just with more flex and weight at the loss of the size (height) I just got 7 keyboards in the last month and now you made me want one of these.... Especially for typing speed. The fastest I ever was, was Cherry MX with o-rings that gave the switches a very low travel distance. Less than a speed silver.
I have a Nuphy Air 75 v2. I lubed the low profile switches and they sound amazing. I just took them apart with my fingers since the opener doesn't fit them.
I’m looking to get a low profile keyboard because the space on my desk isn’t very big, so fitting a keyboard and a wrist rest wouldn’t really work. Coming from the Magic Keyboard that I’ve been using for ~ 10 years, I just know that the height of a mechanical keyboard would be really uncomfortable and that I would need a wrist rest. Low profile seems like the right solution to get a quality board without needing one. As many have mentioned, it’d be cool to get an opinion on the Nuphy Air line since the Air75 V2 is currently at the top of my list. Would love to see something on Logitech’s low profile, as well. The internet is pretty divided on that one. Non-keyboard people seem to like it (most are coming from Apple-style keyboards), but keyboard people think it’s overpriced for what you get. Redragon also makes a low profile board at a much lower price. TLDR: Would love to see more on different low profile boards at different costs because the market for them is only expanding.
Low profile keyboards are great for people like me who constently get stuck with their fingers on those tall keys of mechanical keyboards. I really can't write fast on these. Now I bought myself a nuphy air 75 v2 with red switches and I really like it. I also didn't had a bluetooth keyboard yet.
My wrist has been hurting a bit when I've been using the keyboard lately, and I think this keyboard will solve that problem. Thank you for making this video 😊

Omg THANK YOU! I asked a while back for you to review this keyboard and I didnt know of you would or not! Thank you so much!
Definitely want a vid on their crazy mouse 🔥
More low-profile content please! It’s a great gateway drug for us on the fence, considering diving into mechanical keyboards.
This looks great! I use the Keychron K3v2 as it's one of very few hot swappable low profile boards available in a nordic ISO layout, and with their banana optical switches it feels pretty dang good to use IMO.
I've been wanting a custom low profile 60% but they're near impossible to find parts for
Quickly subbed. Love your reviews and low profile keyboards are my favorite to type on.
I feel like the NuPhy Air 75 was a big inspiration for this keyboard. I use mine whenever I’m on the go, with the laptop at coffee shops or when traveling. I might have to give this a try.
It's so nice I love mine
This legit made my day i love low profile keyboards but i didn't think i could get it on a desktop without crappy switches 0.0
Low profile switches and MT3 caps changed everything for me. Amazing.
At thanks hipyo, I'm a huge fan. I love your efforts and how informationial you are. Hope to see another video!
6:18 nobody gonna talk about his posture?!
Jesus they sound incredibly good straight outta the box... Really impressed
I just got my first low profile keyboard. Previously, I wouldn't have considered it at all, but I fell in love.
yeah the lofree flow with linear switches is superb. super plush typing action
If something happened to the keychron I honestly might just buy a new Magic keyboard from Apple and call it good. heh
* Keychron Hacker keycaps. Nostalgia of the green on black of old command lines worked for me.
I’ve been using the keychron K3 for the last year. It’s a low profit custom with swappable switches and I love it!
your videos are awesome, but I think you already know that! I'm totally new to keyboard fun and your videos are very educational!
I'm in the process of preparing to work on a custom keyboard, and while I'd love to use low profile switches, there are two kinds and I'm unsure on which I want to use. Seeing this was some very nice insight on the current state of them.
PS: Dactyl Manuform review when?
Just picked up the nuphy air 96 v2 w/whisteria and cowberry switches. Excited to see how it thocks.
This one looks great. Really like the style
@@kdietz65 Or get a 4u space keycap and upgrade the stabs to work with it...
I need to see more of that mouse, it looks amazing.
I love mine!
I've been using low profile keyboards for the last 5-6 years and I love them. I can't really ever do back to bigger keyboards because the keys feel so much better to me.
> why would I ever want a keyboard that's like less keyboard
*being perfectly fine with ten-key-LESS and other keyboards that don't have all necessary keys*
As someone who has always used a laptop, switching over to mechanical felt very wierd, and felt unresponse due to larger key travel distance, so seeing nice low profile keyboards makes me very happy
I just impulse bought a Lofree keyboard yesterday and was looking into the brand so I would love to see more videos about their products!
have you received it yet?
I was actually about to request this video be made, since my wife prefers low profile and i am trying to find a custom thocccy keyboard that's also low profile...
That’s how I felt with typing on my laptop keyboard. I still prefer typing on my mechanical one, even though I’m slower.
I've been looking for a low profile option... I might just look into picking this up and giving it a shot.
Fully convinced that youtube reads your mind. I was just thinking about building a low profile keyboard and this video shows up on my recommended
I wish I could get my hands on some to test them in person without having to buy the entire keyboard, but that's not possible.
great video and i for 1 would like to see more low profile keyboard reviews!
I have the Nuphy Air75 v2 and absolutely love it. It has a creamy thock sound that I like. I have a better experience to what you had as you can swap the switches with many cherry switches. You should review it and give it a shot
I was thinking about the air75 v2. Still am. So far I love the lofree flow with XVX caps.
Cowberry or something else?
I got the original Air60 and I love it, its so easy to pop it in a sling with my xreal airs and paired up with a bt mouse and DEX off my s22 ultra, i have a fairly comfortable setup to use in my car when i'm doing work in the field for my job.
Which switches did you use for your air75?
I have a custom low profile keyboard that folds back so it stores easier for travel. Very nice, and I almost enjoy typing on it more than my desktop keyboard tbh.
Good vid, kinda interested in learning bit more at least about low profiles. They were always interesting. Hipyo when is next stream tho? Been waiting so long.
Very soon!
I dont want you for your money...i want you for your keyboards :D 11/10 for kitty cat
Man the black one is perfect, I just want letter shine through key caps!
Nuphy Air? Nuphy Air would be my pack-up-and-go keyboard.
Would you get the same feel just with more flex and weight at the loss of the size (height)
I just got 7 keyboards in the last month and now you made me want one of these.... Especially for typing speed.
The fastest I ever was, was Cherry MX with o-rings that gave the switches a very low travel distance.
Less than a speed silver.
Where is the video on the clear base keyboard you showed, that looks awesome
hey, have you done a video on cleaning /maintaining mechanical keyboards?
i have a keyboard called ck82 from motospeed it is a low profile keyboard but I fell in love with it.
Now do Nuphy
If you don't prefer any keyboard layout over 75%, lofree flow is objectively the much better keyboard!
Hipyo please review the lofree touch keyboard as well. Im a big fan btw keep up the good work pls.
I would be very interested to see what you think about Dygma keyboards. Id also love to see how you would mod them.
I picked up the new K17 pro which is low profile. They had 4 keycap options to choose from. I got the set with the yellow enter and esc keys. So far I love it!
Oh did I mention it has a knob!!!
Next review on Nuphy Air - low profile mechanical keyboards
And Nuphy Halo too!
gotta love the pink guy reference on the intermissions
As a new low-profile keyboarder, I am excited for some low-profile Hipyo content. 😊
I got a low profile mechanical keyboard, because I wanted some portability to use it with other devices aside from my desktop. I love it. 🙃
