Honestly, taskmaster really got me through the pandemic. It was so comforting to know that whatever was going on, I could just stick on a different episode and laugh my ass off until I felt better. Greg is a brilliant host and Alex is unbelievably brilliant and creative. Plus every single contestant is hysterical. I’m so grateful to this insane show for all the times it’s cheered me up in the last two years
I rarely enjoy gameshows because of the meanness factor where many of them are designed to make a fool out of its contestants or humiliate them; i think with taskmaster we find that people are genuinely hilarious even without purposefully setting them up for failure. The tasks are absurd but i think the fun part is that the contestants have the autonomy to decide what they'll do and the hilarity is in the difference between what they think will happen vs. what actually happens. Well done!
You put 7 comedians in a room doing ANYTHING, and it's almost guaranteed to be funny. Making them do ridiculous and absurd things just makes it so much better.
You British got brilliant comedians that make shows like Big Fat Quiz, 7 out of 10 cats, would I lie to you, etc. amazing to watch, and Taskmaster is currently the one I enjoy the most. I've watched all 7 seasons during the last 3 days. Amazing work Alex Horne, we salute you. Love from Sweden!
it's fantastic what Alex has created there, it's gone from a small idea into a global franchise. And he's still sitting there, doing his job, getting abused by Greg and liking it. For the Internet. For all of us. This man truly knows how to do a job. And how to a job well. Thank you so, so much little Alex Horne
A non-comedian/non-celeberity Task Master would be great, maybe it could be done in the Australian bush or Shepherds Bush and have people making money for a grumpy old fart?
Here's an observation: Editor Thomas Perrett is the arguably the most important person on the show. He gets to present someone's task attempt in a certain way. The choices we make as editors in how a story is told can have a completely different outcome on a person's reaction to it. I'd love to know how they don't end up presenting a false narrative, such as compressing time or not showing certain things. Or maybe they DO, because they want the reaction in the studio recordings, and we don't realise that it can be massaged? This hurts my brain to think about.
For sure a huge part of the comedy is due to the editing. Since it's pre-recorded he has to make sure not to misrepresent their humour and keep the comedians style and humour. That means the editor must be familiar with their work and comedic timing
they just look for when they decide how to do a task, and then any changes they make to their approach. Repeat for the rest, make any connections you can with each person's strategy, then stuff in general funny moments till you hit the time needed. Not that much too it, but it is super important.
Thank you Alex Horne for making this show! Not only for the one in Britain but also for the version we have here in Sweden with our own swedish comedians, it actually works really well. I hope he gets something for that.
I presume Alex has sold the versions of the show to other parts of the world! Alex was heavily involved with the US version when that was on I think, cause he was even the assistant in that version
@@ropowo Either Avalon or Alex will get royalties depending on how well he negotiated with Avalon when trying to get the show made. As the producer putting up all of the cash companies like Avalon can often stiff the owners of the show by making them sign over a percentage right at the beginning. It's a really good show that could run forever with the quality of contestants they get. Genuinely look forward to these as a highlight of TV in the year, no current comedy show compares
Taskmaster is one of the pure joys my family and I discovered on a trip to the UK last year. I thought they had a team of writers who designed the tasks but it’s super impressive to find out Alex does that! He must be doing a lot of work for this show.
They are top notch tasks makes me wonder how he organizes them. Like does front load or end load the seasons with funnier tasks or space em out evenly. Hell maybe they film them all and then organize, but it does appear the on show portion happens shortly after the tasks are filmed. Or random, I really have no idea but I’m curious lol
@@monhi64 I'm pretty sure they film them randomly, and organize what'll be on an episode afterwards. In one season, the last group task shown was called out by the participants as the first one shot.

Agreed, loved Bob Mortimer, brilliant.. (And so many others!) But reading the lists of celebs suggested by public, No way would some agree to do it, their EGO's are too big..!
Another 5 years has passed and it's still a massively successful show, that just proves how talented Alex and the team are. It's such a simple concept but of course it would work. Getting 5 quirky and interesting comedians together for something so completely frivolous and fun, while having that little sprinkling of competitiveness and trepidation for the audience, is a winning combination. The imagination of the show is one of the best things about it, but seeing some participants finding ways to read between the lines to find loopholes is absolutely my favourite aspect of it. I love considering the challenge and contemplating potential loopholes the way Gilbert, Perkins and Osman all did. May there be another 10 years of this great show!

I've watched clips of the other taskmaster shows and while the taskmaster/assistant duos are excellent in their own right, I can't help but feel that Greg/Alex are the perfect duo for this show. Greg's assertive grandeur and Alex's enthusiastic timidness adds so much character and gives something for the comedians to riff off of. Otherwise it just feels like a bunch of people in a room watching VODs and talking at each other.

One of the most important person who kickstart the fame of Taskmaster must be Frank Skinner. A real legend giving boost to a new show really helps.
If I remember correctly, in some interview at least one of the comedians from series 1 stated that Frank Skinner agreeing to be part of the show as the reason they agreed as well :)
The funny thing is, I'd literally never heard of Frank before TM.
My fave thing about the show is when you can see that Greg and Alex didn't expect any leeway or confusion about the task but the contestants obviously immediately thought how to bypass the task! The sheer inventiveness of how the tasks are done will NEVER grow old and I have yet to be bored from a season.

thesimpsons17 me too, it's heaven
thesimpsons17 same here, I laugh like a fucking idiot whilst sat on my own watching the telly, over and over again. That's how good this show is.
Literally exactly the same here. And it makes me laugh every single time, even though I now know exactly what is going to happen!
Sadly, America will pick it up and fuck it up just like they do everything else.
Same here.
Gotta say, it makes a LOT more sense now that Alex is just ready and willing to do whatever on camera, whenever.
It seems it doesn't matter who's on this show, it's the format that makes it funny
boa format but also the editing is top notch
That's true for the guests. I think Alex and Greg play a big role in success because of their character. Take a look at the US version, it's not even half as good
Except for season seven bc james acaster and Rhod Gilbert made that 10x more insane
It does matter. Compare to the US one. Same format but shitty result because of different people with different opinions of what comedy is.
@@SwedishNeo US Comedians suck
What I wouldn’t give to be pulled aside by Greg Davies and have him whisper sweet words of encouragement in my ear...
its the ur not a bad guy that kills everytime lmaoo
Where was the Swede?! I wanted to hear from him.
Thrilled to hear Alex is actually the creator. He's absolutely the best part of the show. Love it.
Yeah he is. I like his explanation that he didn't feel like he could act as host and set himself in the assistant role while actually creating all the tasks
I’m so grateful to this insane show for all the times it’s cheered me up in the last two years
Me and my partner found it in lockdown and binged the whole thing twice. Amazing show
I rarely enjoy gameshows because of the meanness factor where many of them are designed to make a fool out of its contestants or humiliate them; i think with taskmaster we find that people are genuinely hilarious even without purposefully setting them up for failure.

And Swedes get prominent airtime on the show!
They do have a lot of Swedes on the show, don't they
I'm terrified when I wonder how many times Alex has had a random fan yell at him, "LITTLE ALEX HORNE!!!!"
And they are probably shorter than alex
Way to many
His own children call it him lmao
it's fantastic what Alex has created there, it's gone from a small idea into a global franchise.
And he's still sitting there, doing his job, getting abused by Greg and liking it. For the Internet. For all of us. This man truly knows how to do a job. And how to a job well. Thank you so, so much little Alex Horne
Honestly, taskmaster is my favourite show. Too bad I'm not a comedian or in the public eye cause I'd love to compete.
A non-comedian/non-celeberity Task Master would be great, maybe it could be done in the Australian bush or Shepherds Bush and have people making money for a grumpy old fart?
If you follow Alex Horne on Twitter, he sets tasks for the general public!

I love the dynamic between Greg and Alex! The bubble is popped knowing that Alex is the Task Master in reality though! Haha
Just remind yourself it's unscripted, suddenly all those takedowns from greg feel genuine again!
"Yeah we are trying to get everyone dressed and ready to go"
Russell Howard: *has no shirt on in the background*
He's a good looking lad.
Yes, editing is very powerful and can completely change the narrative of pretty much anything.
An editor thinks an editors job is really important. Hot take.
Clearly not the most important person as an editor without anything to edit isn't gonna produce anything.
RICHARD AYOADE PLEASE!!!

I'm sure I've heard of Avalon before though in the British comedy scene so they likely treat their creators well or else no one would go to them with new show ideas.

I love seeing how different people interpret the challenges differently. I love the banter between Greg and Alex!
It's a really good show that could run forever with the quality of contestants they get. Genuinely look forward to these as a highlight of TV in the year, no current comedy show compares
Finding out Alex is behind all of this makes me way happier than I thought it would.
Taskmaster is one of the pure joys my family and I discovered on a trip to the UK last year. We were staying in an AirBnB in Windsor that had cable television and we watched Dave TV any time we were not out seeing the local sights. We absolutely loved Taskmaster and QI, two shows you don't ever hear about in the States. So glad we can watch it on RUclips now.

I love this show. It's not just the tasks, which are mad and ingenious, but it's the diverse reactions of the players that really make the show. Some cool and collected, others wild and manic and others, fearful of what's about to happen.
11:11 Mortimer so excited Alex agreed to shut the lid 😂
Agreed, loved Bob Mortimer, brilliant..
(And so many others!)
But reading the lists of celebs suggested by public,
No way would some agree to do it, their EGO's are too big..!
Oh damn, plot twist! The minion is the evil genius all along!

I’m American and never watch British television but oh my lord this show is so amazing that I’ve fallen in love with British humor
