Born in Tanzania and raised in Canada, Nick Saul is President and CEO of Community Food Centres Canada, a national organization that builds and supports vibrant, food-focused community centres in low-income neighbourhoods. These centres are based on the idea that good food is a powerful force for greater health, equity and social change.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Jane Jacobs Prize, as well as an honorary doctorate from Ryerson University. A long-time community organizer, Nick speaks regularly on issues of justice and the Community Food Centre model of food access, health and community building.

Tending to food crops takes a lot of time, attention, and money that many modern people just don’t have. Growing enough food to live off of is a whole job.
I believe as you say we need long term systemic planning to eradicate hunger. That being said while we bring about change that will help for the long term we cannot ignore that today and everyday this year 17,000 children will die of hunger. 13.1 Million children will die this year of starvation or easily treatable diseases, like diarrhea, cholera etc. I have done work in Africa, South America, North America. In South America, and Africa many people live hours of walking from a store. When they do get to a store there is no food for sale. They do not have enough land to grow all of their food. The average person I met in these areas outside the cities ate once every two days. So please do not ignore the short term. thank your for your thoughts.
I think food banks need to be gone because they are on heathy , and a bad diet no diet at all. Bad food We need big change and treat people like human beings that they feel worthy. The rich are using people and can pay them it slavery Thank You!

At the root of hunger is the fact that 77% of fertile land is beeing used to produce feed for farm animals that are beeing eaten by only 19% of the population.

Daniel McRaven grinding our teeth like herbivores and consuming large amount of sugar rich food will exacerbate many health problems. Some people are having problems when they eat vegetables some people even need a all meat diet. So what about these problems ?

Which are you? After I became homeless it changed my world view. I still to this day share my food with any homeless person I pass by even after upgrading to sleeping in a corner of an office to avoid the virus.

No, to summarize the speaker's point, its the lack of income that is the center of hunger.
I lived with friends in their impoverished homes either as roommates or with their family. They’d waste hundreds a month. After ending up homeless I started saving became all my money was towards the cheapest healthiest food instead of just a bunch of microwave foods

Pastures in Texas are turning into neighborhoods. So less crops and more people. The government pays farmers to destroy crops to control stock prices. All these pastures use to grow crops, and cattle. Food was harvested in every pasture. It ended in the 1980s.
It needs to be taught at the basic level of elementary how to grow food and maintain a farm of animals, also stretching your resources, imagine if everyone knew how to grow their own food and are educated enough to build their owj houses
well, my mom did build her own house with out morgage and my sister too,and she was a mother of zeven no mman, my brother who was staying, or living temporary at her helped build together with my sister , my mom did build her house in thye late 80s, my mom used to work as an acountant secretary at holly day inn , this the reason i respect my mom, she was not like most women who are living in the western countries she was living in the carribean, an higher living standard than living in Holland, instead of living in attached houses, homes

Why not wetting the soil with desalinated water from oceans? Just the energy of pumping the water, Australia, Sahara etc. Evaporation pools, salt can be heaped and think later purpose to it. Damp soil, then grow something Nice😅
Too late, maybe. We've seen this over and over again. Today, four and a half years after this talk, people in the CDR, Bolivia, Mexico, the Middle East, Guatemala, Brazil, Haiti, Burkina-Faso... maybe 80% of Africa's population is not only malnourished, but well under the limits of utter poverty. I rescue dogs, because that's all I can do. If I had the power and the money, I'd be rescuing children, women, men, the elderly, from famine, wars, despicable acts created by the powers to be. We're losing the war not because we're neglecting the poor in the wealthiest of all countries. We're losing the war because we've lost our moral compass.
I believe the main reason for all those problems is overpopulation. Probably, the rich people and government still know that they are capable of solving these problems including hunger, poverty, disease and whatsoever. But they don't want to act, thinking that once those problems are solved, there would be more people on the earth, more demand for resources of any type. So, the long term solution is probably saying one kid for one family.

MY understanding is that this is a story that we are sold - all the people in the world can fit into one corner of Texas! There is plenty of land - it is how it has been mismanaged.
Basic childcare is teaching a being to be a primary food producer.
I havent watched the video yet but here is my take. If there wasnt no hunger, people would have even more children, and find the limit again. So basically some people will always be hungry.

We don’t starve in modern societies because we created a set of conditions that ensure we’re fed. We’re not taking resources from the impoverished - something or someone is blocking their path to self sufficiency.
For the impoverished in western society, the largest line item expense in their portfolio is TAXES
Sales, or consumption taxes, make the cost of living gruelling for lower and middle income earners.
Over half of fuel is TAXES. That carried into food costs.
The thieves aren’t the employers or the rich. It’s government over reach, and the multi levels of bureaucracy that are paid 6 figure salaries, life long benefits - for doing nothing. This disease is so engrained in western society, it actually steals budget from services we expect - healthcare, infrastructure, education
