I’ve seen Dennis interviewed several times and he never disappoints. Funny, real, and humble (for a rock star)-the kind of guy you’d wanna have a beer with and shoot the baloney. Glad I took the time to visit with him today.
I seen Styx with April Wine . It was their Grand Illusion Tour . St. Louis at what was called The checker Dome . A very Awesome concert . 8 of us drove 75 miles to see them . They open up with Light up everybody , Join us in this celebration ! Crowd went nuts
@@Mncrrf you were a true Styx fan and understood their music, they were both rock and parts "effeminate" as you would say. Even Shaw wrote some tracks (Sing For The Day, Boat On The River, Lights) that could be considered what you label as "effeminate", so your argument is pretty weak. DDY wrote the rockers Lady which is responsible for them having their first hit and getting them noticed. No DDY, no Styx. He was also fired from the band because he was physically unable to tour after the release of Brave New World. DDY's new album is more rock and more Styx than Stynx's Crap of The Crown. See what I did there?
@@rogermasa I’m not really a “true” Styx fan but did you see tommy Shaw on Darryl’s house a few years ago. He kicked ass. Only like a few songs and never owned any albums and definitely not a Dennis deyoung fan
@@Mncrr Funny how nobody bitched about Queen being 'effeminate'. One of the biggest rock bands of all time. I guess classy is 'effeminate' to you Wanna know some sappy songs Tommy Shaw wrote that he never gets flak for? "Sing for the Day" and "She Cares". Now why is that?
Dennis has been out of the band longer than he was in it, and Styx has played more concerts with Gowan than Dennis. Styx enjoys going out and playing, something Dennis didn't want to do. Dennis sure hasn't done anything incredibly exciting or memorable in the last 23 years, Styx has continued being busy, Crash of the Crown was great, The Mission was great, Big Bang Theory was fun, and there's some decent tunes on Cyclorama, the CYO thing was fantastic. It was a divorce, Tommy/Jy/and Chucky don't want to ever work with him again, they've spent more time in a room with him than you ever will. I have people in my life I never want to see again either.
What a great interview. I understand what he means by going back to our own music. Of our time. I would love to see Dennis as an actor. Also the musical " The Hunchback of Notre Damn. " I'm sure he would have been fantastic. I hope this is not insulting but I love " Desert Moon."
Dennis mentioned the band opening for Stevie Wonder in the 70s. That was probably before Styx became headliners. I clearly remember in high school the black students loved the hell out of the song "BABE" it was very talked about. Styx had cross sectioned appeal. Most arena bands had that appeal and didn't know it. Condoleezza Rice is a huge fan of Led Zepplin. 10:58
To be honest, Dennis DeYoung pretty much became a scenery chewing front man who quickly turned Styx into an adult contemporary act. Things got even worse when Styx reformed in 1990 and had a hit with Show Me The Way, and DeYoung took up all of the creative control resulting in Styx becoming nothing more than his backing band with little resemblance to the original group.
yeah, the other band mates have huge egos, were money hungry and wanted more control and probably hated that people liked him more than them. ah well! what a joke! They have not released any great albums without him. Good but not great. @@alaska-bornfloridaman
The man who created Lorelei and Desert Moon.
He's much calmer, sane and less bitter and jealous in this interview which is good to see. Not so in more in recent interviews.
Agreed!
Dennis is awesome 🎉
Really enjoyed Dennis DeYoung's most recent album 26 EAST - VOL 2. He still has a great voice. Thanks for sharing this..
I love Dennis DeYoung!!! He's the Best!!!!!! #styxanddennisdeyoungreunion
I listen to Styx every night after my husband passed. We were Military when he flew overseas ,seem like Babe would play!

Actually the song Fooling Yourself was written specifically about him. He’s known to be a cynical ass
@@helloitsmehb He also gave Tommy Shaw and James Young a career and a band name to continue to milk so ya know, maybe he has reasons to be cynical.
@@MarcusFenix50 that song was written in the 70s
This is great. You captured here the true Dennis that we all love. Well ALL BUT Tommy and JY.

Those for today is my friend.
Sorry. Those were the days my friend, Those were the Days.
The old Checker Dome……..been awhile.
You can tell the pain of the split with STYX is still very fresh.
We feel it too Dennis! Would give anything to see STYX reunite again.
The rest of Styx stayed on the rock and roll path, he chose the artsy cabaret path. His music is a little effeminate. Sorry

Dennis for me is Styx.
I would like to see Dennis do an interview with Real Music Observer!!
Oh yeah! That would be cool 😎
Yes
Oh ya
STYX without Dennis is simply the Tommy Shaw band. 🤬🤬🤬
I simply just call them Stynx without Dennis!
Styx without Dennis Deyoung is NOT Styx at all.
1:42 His band is way better than Styx. Hopefully he tours again.
It is so sad that JY and Tommy have robbed Dennis and all of us of his presence in Styx. Shame on them!!
Was that DDY or Barbara Streisand ?? I always get them confused with each other because they both Rock equally as Hard .
C'mon Tommy, we all know it's you...
march 2002 interview?wtf?time to get some new stuff bud.hard to give you a like or sub from 22 years ago!!!damn dude!!!gave nothing!!!

Horrible interviewer but Dennis is awesome like always
I liked your comment only because I love DDY, but also I couldn't hear any of the questions.
This is one of those guys who I never thought I would like as a person, and was completely wrong. He seems very down to Earth and intelligent.
